First time at the office I presented two insurance cards. The individual checks one and tells me I have a co-pay and that X-rays are not covered. I then tell her it must be a mistake because I've had the same insurance and at another office everything was covered. I then present to her another insurance card which she doesn't bother to check, turns around to talk to her coworker, returns the card right back without even verifying with the insurance company only to tell me I must have cheap insurance and that must be the reason why it's not covered. Maybe if she would have been less rude and taken the time to lookup the second card I handed to her she would have realized I was fully covered. Instead I had to pay out of pocket and then call my insurance to verify something I already knew. Secondly, paying 500 monthly for medical insurance is not 'cheap insurance'. when working with the public learn not to judge, you never know who your talking to. read more

We have never been disappointed or let down with the work done on our teeth- from root canal's to implants or simple cleanings. The staff is always pleasant,professional and very very helpful. The front office staff is fine, but the dentist tries to tell you everything is wrong with your teeth and charge your insurance as much as possible. Went there today for my dentist appointment before going to work on a regular Wednesday afternoon. I didn't wait too long to wait and go for my dentist appointment for a cleaning procedure. The service there was really good, pretty quick and efficient. Also, the cleaning procedure with the hygienist went really relaxing, calm, painless, gentle and super quick that I didn't feel a single pain but some bleeding that I needed to brush and floss more often. Finally, I definitely look forward to coming back again 6 months from now to improve my dental hygiene! ;) read more

Dr. Modlin (money driven dentist) I hate to leave a bad review but wanted to share my experience. I took time researching to find a dentist for my annual exam. The front desk staff was friendly and professional. I had to wait a bit but it didn't bother me. Maybe many people who are satisfied with her work never knew that they were given unnecessary fillings or other procedures. I hope people can get second opinion on their dental condition if possible. My main concern was that the doctor saw me for like maybe THREE OR FIVE mins and she didn't take time to explain or ask questions. The doctor showed up after all my cleaning and x-ray. I will repeat it again, she saw me maybe 3-5 mins. She saw the x-ray and told me I have 3 places to fix, including one cavity. However, she didn't take her time to look at my teeth thoroughly. It was very quick seeing her face and me being told I need multiple fixes/fillings done. I read a few of her bad reviews previously, reporting how she tells people to get fillings or they have cavities when they actually don't. Getting cleaning done there was very unpleasant. All the water and stuff were splashing everywhere on my face and the dental hygienist did super fast and it felt rushed. I've gotten cleaning before multiple times and this was the WORST. They also told me, I will need to do more deep cleaning (more money for them). I decided to get a second opinion from a friend who is in this field and also went to see another dentist. At the other dentist clinic, I was told I am doing fine and I don't need anything at this time. The cavity is very small which can be reversed so the dentist told me to continue flossing and brushing my teeth. At this other clinic, I wasn't told to get deep cleaning multiple times. At Dr. Modlin's clinic, I felt like they were working only for the money to get advantage of people's insurance. Perhaps, it wasn't their intention but.. either way, it was very unpleasant and I felt like salesmen were selling me stuff. I'm glad I got to find another dentist who took time to explain everything to me. I'm also glad that I canceled appointment at Dr. Modlin and stopped them from making unnecessary holes/fillings on my teeth. There is more to this story but I will stop here I guess. read more

Update, I got a second opinion. Dr. Modlin said I had three cavities that needed filling as well as a deep cleaning. The second dentist said there is not even one cavity let alone three and said that my teeth are "great" and not in need of a deep cleaning. Don't go here they just want money and will do unnecessary procedures. This woman was really going to just drill into three of my teeth for no reason. That's insane and dangerous. read more

This is a insufferable and harrowing place. I was told I needed a few procedures done. First was filling, when I came in the doctor did not do a thorough job for the filling procedure. The filling was just slap unto my teeth, poorly cleaned. Very unprofessional and poorly executed. I am beyond displeased. I canceled all other appointments they wanted me to schedule. They just want your money! I would stay away. Should have read the reviews before coming here. Given that its location is in Manhattan, I was expecting higher standards. Don't bother going here. Don't waste your time and money! Find a good dentist that will do the work 100% You do not want your teeth being experimented. Very poor quality of work done. The dentist was gentle and explained everything she did and found. However, I had plaque that needed to be removed and said she would do it when I got deep cleaning she determined I needed. When she saw I had insurance with Medicaid, she said I'd need a new/separate appointment for the deep cleaning. When I followed up, the office manager said insurance was sent and pending determination. When I called my insurance, they had no claim and called the dentist office with me on the phone. The office manager said the dentist decided I could wait 6 months for a new cleaning to determine if I needed deep cleaning. So 1) the plaque was never removed 2) I only seemed to need the deep cleaning if I wasn't on medicaid 3) after this conversation the office put me and the insurance rep on hold. When she came back on the line she said the office just determined they no longer take Fidelis insurance. Conclusion: your dental needs are determined here by your insurance coverage, not what is happening with your mouth/teeth. Very nice office if you are not on supplementary assistance. read more

Avoid unless you want to be exploited as a cash cow (read: hidden charges that they will bill your insurance for without informing you BEFORE nor after the procedure and try to sweep under the rug), long wait times in the middle of the work day, unwanted sales pitches for Invisalign shoved down your throat complete with sales demos when you've said no multiple times, and a dentist who pays more attention to the TV than on the work they're doing when they see you. Dentist appointments are generally an awful experience but this place takes the cake. In the first two months of this year, I was made to go back 6 times. 4 times because of 1 crown that the dentist kept sending back to the lab to be remade (and another time because it cracked in the middle of her installing it). Other dentists take 2 appointments for a crown fyi. During each appointment she took her sweet time shaving my tooth down more and more so appointments were painful and time consuming. Perhaps if the dentist didn't have her eyes glued to the TV as she did work on me, she might've been able to get my crown done properly with the proper amount of appointments. I came out of appointments with abrasions on the sides of my mouth that took a week to heal as she is very rough to the point that I was visibly crying during one appointment and she still did not ease up. She sure noticed though because she asked "Are you okay?" while her tools were inside my mouth so I had no way of saying no or shaking my head. I waved my hand no and got the response "We'll be done soon" But that's okay, these things can take time to get perfect right? Giving them the benefit of the doubt was my mistake. Today I have a tooth emergency and find out that they secretly, behind my back, used up my 1 free emergency dental visit of the year on one of the numerous useless crown-related appointments. Because cashing in on the crown payment from my insurance wasn't enough, and now I'm left without my free emergency dental visit when I have an actual emergency. Those multiple crown visits were forced by the dentist's whims and then secretly billed as an emergency visit (which they were not. Each appointment was the dentist's poor attempt to install a crown.) so they could make an extra buck. Without ever informing me. They are also obsessed with selling Invisalign. When I said no, the dental hygienist proceeded to waste more of my time by bringing in a model of a mouth and giving me a sales demonstration on how Invisalign works. This is a poor excuse for a dentist's office with 0 integrity and care for your health. I wish I had the money to sue them for the pain they've put me through and their shady practices. read more

I had a couple procedures done here and everyone always made me feel so calm and taken care of. I am terrified of the dentist, but I didn't feel a thing during a recent root canal. Came to New Broadway on a referral by the insurance company and while the dental assistants were nice, the male endodontist was curt and not that warm. The floor is undergoing construction so it's looks pretty scary. It's a struggle just trying to get into the building given its directly in Times Square. This office wasn't terrible but I doubt I would recommend their office. read more

I called the office on 8/30/21 after experiencing pain in the area where the recent root canal and crown were placed. I was informed that a "dismissal letter" had been sent to the address on file through certified mail. I didn't receive it as I wasn't at the location during delivery and only found out about it through the phone call. I was informed the letter was returned, so I went in person. I was told I couldn't open the document since it was legal, but was given a copy. In essence, the copy stated that due to a "breakdown in the doctor-patient relationship," I would only be seen for 30 days from the date of the letter for emergency services only. The letter was dated 8/5/21 and I only was notified of it on 8/30/21. In between those dates, to my knowledge, no known attempts were made to email or call me regarding the returned letter. I had just been in the office on 8/4/21 and at no time did Dr. Modlin mention any perceived issues. In fact, on that date,my 6th month checkup and 3 month crown followup were confirmed. So if there were perceived issues, why were these appointments confirmed? More so, at no time since I began as a patient in 2019 did Dr. Modlin discuss any perceived problems with me or attempt to mend any perceived problems. Most people know me as a kind, considerate individual that tries to help others. I made all my appointments on time (even in the snowstorm last Winter), followed her suggested treatment plan, paid in cash for the root canal and crown, and spoke to the staff with respect even though in my opinion as noted in my previous review, I didn't always get treated with respect. The main reason I paid cash was to avoid the 3% convenience fee charged for credit cards. As my previous review stated, they misspelled my name on receipts and delayed responses to my emails and calls when I requested corrected receipts. After receiving no response for several weeks, I made the first Yelp review for this office. Dr. Modlin and her office had ample opportunity to resolve this issue before I posted the first review. Could this "dismissal letter" be retaliation for the Yelp review? In my opinion, some people don't like when people with African and Indigenous ancestry speak up about perceived mistreatment. I do have an upcoming appointment with the office's endodontist to check the pain. But what happens after the 30 day cut-off noted in the letter if this issue is not resolved? It's my impression that the doctors that initiated the procedures must see them through. Insurance companies often require this as well, especially for procedures like root canals and crowns. I've sent Dr. Modlin an email offering her the opportunity to explain what specific incident led to her perceived "breakdown in the doctor-patient relationship." As of this writing, she hasn't responded. I wasn't able to speak to her in person when I visited the office. Is this professional conduct according to ADA standards? read more

I was refused access to the dentist by the building security, who noticed my LGBT pride watch band and denied me entry. I was berated by the security guard and had the cops called on me. I have been a patient here for years. Today however was my last time going here and I'm quite disappointed because it's close to work and the actual dentist and the hygienist are great. I made my appointment, I received a voicemail message from the them a day or two before but ignored it (is it just me? I don't really answer my phone anymore). I show up on time for my appointment and give them my name. They have apparently cancelled my appointment because I didn't call them back to confirm. No apology - just a scolding for not picking up my phone. So I then clarify - you always need me to confirm an appointment otherwise you cancel it? I've been coming here for years and at times have not answered the phone and the appointment was still honored. She confirms - yes - you always need to answer it and scolds me again. I wait to see if they can fit me in. A second woman calls me back to her computer to see when they can reschedule my appointment to. Again - not a single sorry or even acknowledgement that this is an unfortunate situation but AGAIN I get scolded like a 5 year old. So I calmly say 'please stop scolding me'. She then doubles down about how I was in the wrong and the only reason she is having to do this is because I didn't pick up the phone. I again say - please stop scolding me and SHE CONTINUES telling me how I just need to pick up the phone or call them back! By this time I am upset and mention that at most places they don't drop your appointment if you don't pick up the phone call and she tells me that EVERYONE does this. Which is just not true. So I leave. And now I have to find a new blasted dentist after going here for 8 years. So heads up - if you go here know that if you don't pick up the phone when they call to confirm your appointment, they will then cancel you. And then multiple people will treat you like a child and scold you in their office without ever saying 'wow - sorry for the misunderstanding and let's see what we can do'. But again - the actual dentists are great. Wish I could bypass the scolding office people and just see them. read more

I contacted Dr Modlin about a certified letter she sent to me regarding patient doctor interaction and I wanted her to explain this since she wanted to terminate this interaction. I only asked her how long shes been a dentist and may i see my tooth work before and after. She did not respond. Not one to enjoy a dentist visit but I was referred by family and took a chance. The office is spotless and Dr. Modlin was very professional and nice. She recommended root canal, crown and some other services and I used Dr. Val Atsen in her office. The most pain was from the novocaine shot but the effects after the root canal were not painful and thus far have recommended him (and the office) twice. Dr. Atsen was very good and explained everything. The whole staff is great. Highly recommend. read more

I'm not happy with Dr. Natalya Modlin's services because she kept on insisting for me to see the specialists working in her office for a deep cleaning & root canal. She said both procedures are necessary having looked at the condition of my teeth. I decided to receive other opinions on both procedures with other doctors, and I was informed that I actually do not need them. From this, I can only assume that Dr. Modlin cares about money, with no regard of the needs of the patient. To add, the last time that I went to see her, she put a temporary filling for me and tried to make me go back to see her specialist. Because of visibility and orientation of the filling which I didn't know I received in the beginning, I called her three times and wanted to find out why she filled my tooth in the way she did. I knew she was busy at that time but I left messages (every time I called) to her secretary for her to call me back. Unfortunately, she never called me back; instead, she had her assistant to call me and told me to go in for her to check/see. All I wanted to do was to ask a simple question. If I go in, it is possible that it will be an opportunity to be charged for her time and consultation. I also do not have the time to revisit when I believe that the job should've been done correctly the first time around. With this being said, I wouldn't recommend her to anyone that I know. read more

I had high hopes. This place was friendly and warm when i went in for my cleaning but when i came back to have 2 cavities filled I was told it would cost $440 for them to be filled. I paid the balance and left. I check with my insurance company because a coworker thought it sounded a bit high. Sure enough, the insurance company tells me I have to pay $0 if i get the silver fillings but i have to pay the difference for composite fillings. He said i would have to request for the composite upgrade (which i wasn't even given an option). This office was recommended to me by a friend. Very friendly and professional team. Elena P. is the best hygienist I have ever had. My cleaning was painless and thorough. Dr Modlin is doing a great job taking care and saving my teeth whenever possible. I have now recommended her to at least 4 of my other friends and they all loved her. Would not recommend. The office is largely unprofessional. The assistants and hygienists were disorganized and hard to understand. No one could explain to me why I would choose to get a full x-ray instead of a check-up x-ray, and instead of trying, they just chose for me. My x-rays had to be done multiple times, and I was left physically holding the instruments up in my mouth each time. The dentist I saw was very cold and made me terrified about my wisdom teeth -- something that affects almost everyone, and I had never heard such dire predictions for a routine issue from a doctor. Finally, they explained that they don't do silver fillings, so each molar filling would be $50 that insurance will not reimburse. read more

I was send there from my previous dentist, which was a clinic environment, to have an extraction performed. Previous to that procedure the performed a full assessment of my teeth/gums with hygiene program that is the reason why I still have my remaining teeth today. My previous dentist never conducted such program which is solely responsible for teeth I have missing today. Additionally, for every procedure that reacquired a specialist, Orthodontics, Periodontics, etc. they were available at this office so I would not have to be 'outsourced' and experience that inconvenience. In other words this was 'one stop shopping'. I found Dr. Modlin to be gentle (very important) as I have not had a painfully excruciating experience yet after 3 years. This was not case with my previous dental clinic. Additionally, Dr Modlin is very thorough in explaining your dental diagnosis, prognosis, and ongoing preventative measures via hygiene. I find her and her staff to be very affable and my visits to be within 15 minutes of the actual appointment. Most of all, thanks to Dr. Modlin and her team I still have my teeth!!! read more

I found this office through my insurance and immediately made an appointment because my tooth was hurting badly. The whole staff was very friendly and welcoming. I waited for a few minutes before being called into the room. After the check up of my tooth, it turned out I needed to have a root canal and a crown. Since it was getting late in the day, I thought I'll need to reschedule my appointment, however, Dr. Modlin and her staff stayed late into the evening to do the root canal so that I won't suffer the pain anymore. I was really afraid of having the anesthetic shot because I hate needles, however, I was really suprised and very happy that I felt no pain at all from the needle. Props to Dr. Modlin for that. After an hour and a half or so, I left and made a second appointment for the crown and a few days after that, I came in for the fitting. Dr. Modlin was very precise with the making of the crown and my crown fitting was very fast, as the crown barely needed any adjustments. Having a front tooth crown is a very sensitive thing to have as it is visible, and I was happy that my crown turned out to be very good and nice looking. I recommend Dr. Modlin to anyone who needs a dentist. read more

I made my appointment a month ago and they called me two days before tell me the appointment is no longer available and have to a few weeks to schedule another one. I have an extreme fear of dentists. I needed several teeth pulled and root canal. I had originally been to a dentist near my home and didn't feel all that comfortable. From my first contact with Dr. Modlin's office I felt extremely comfortable. I visted yesterday and was made to feel very comfortable by everyone in th eoffice. Dr. Modlin was very so gentle with the needle I barely felt it when she numbed and area I didn't even realize she had pulled my teeth until she told me. I would recommend her any day. My fears are subsided and I can say I actually look forward to seeing her for my root canal! She's my dentist for life! Loved her and everyone in her office. A must visit for anyone afraid of the dentist!! read more
