Standard practice is to reimburse the same way the payment was made (card), but I can't even get a call back since I got the note from my insurance that they have paid for this. Would've given this place 4 stars if it wasn't for that RUDE receptionist!! Okay, this is going to be a LONG review. You've been warned. Overall, I would've had a great experience if it wasn't for that obnoxiously rude receptionist. I strongly believe receptionists are the faces of a medical office and they either make or break your experience. I really hope I don't encounter the same girl again at my next appointment. PROS: convenient location, clean office/rooms, very friendly dentist & hygienist (but NOT the receptionist) CONS: that receptionist! UGH! Like a lot of reviewers, I purchased the LivingSocial deal for x-rays and a cleaning. I went in for my appointment, and apparently the schedule had said I was late to my appointment and no one was able to see me. The receptionist had the guts to lie to my face saying she had talked to me the day before confirming the appointment. I have NO idea where she got that from because never did I once receive a call from them. Anyway, I didn't want to throw a fit and rescheduled on the spot. Funny how she said she talked to me over the phone the day before because when we were rescheduling, she accidentally said "I don't have your number.. what is it again?" BTW, didn't receive an apology nor a thank you on my way out. Great. Arrived to my rescheduled appointment a week later and had to stand there in front of the SAME receptionist for a few minutes before she got off the phone (mind you, she was also very rude to the caller). She was rude when explaining the forms I needed to fill out, rude when she asked for my LivingSocial voucher, rude to another patient who had an emergency situation and walked in without an appointment, just plain RUDE all over. While waiting for a good ten minutes (no biggie), the receptionist goes onto complaining about the paper shredder they have at the office. She just kept saying "I HATE, HATE, HATE this shredder! Worst shredder ever!" Well, if you regularly empty the bin & put some oil on the blades, maybe it won't be so evil to you! Moral of the story: treat others the way you want to be treated. The hygienist/assistant finally called me in. At this point, I was praying the rest of the staff would be nice.. or at least tolerable. She was a doll, very courteous and friendly. The x-rays were quick & painless (your x-rays are automatically downloaded to the computer screen, none of that old school film stuff) and the dentist came in only a few minutes afterwards with a warm smile. The dentist was also very professional and friendly, asking me if I had any dental concerns, if I was comfortable, etc. The cleaning was, as expected, painless, quick, and easy. The dentist did the cleaning, but the hygienist did the polishing (not a big deal, could've been worse). The music they play could be reconsidered, though (they played top 40s music the entire time I was there). Both the dentist & hygienist were singing & dancing when Drake's Take Care came on... hmm, kinda interesting, but not a big deal to me since I don't get nervous during dental visits. I just wondered how older or nervous patients would react to this type of environment. Is this a NYC thing?? Anyway, the dentist complimented me on how well-maintained my teeth were (yes, I brush & floss regularly but I must also thank God & my parents for the good genes). YAY! Best compliment you can ever hear at a dentist's office. I got a free toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss. Free stuff. Cool. I went back to the receptionist desk to see if I needed to check out. I love going to the dentist! My first impression of this office was bad though. I booked my appointment a month ago and when I got there, I wasn't on the list. I rushed out of work to make the appointment and I was not a happy camper to have wasted a travel - it didn't help that I used a pay per ride to get here.. Second impression was bad too. I came in for my biannual clean up/check up and the cleaning was horrible but the dentist was cute haha. The receptionist were extremely nice! Third impression was fab. I waited for about 15 minutes but I didn't mind because the music they had on was rocking my socks. So I was just jamming away and yelping for my next meal. My amazing cleaning was done by Neily. She was super through and addressed all my concerns. She was very particular and I felt each tooth get equal attention. She did not rush like my second experience and she explained everything. She's awesome, I highly recommend her for a cleaning. The only down side is no freebies after cleaning. Who doesn't like a goodie bag with a toothbrush, floss and mouth wash? I had a great experience with my cleaning and check up with Dr Alina L. I was pretty nervous to go to the dentist - my last dentist appt with another provider had been terrible and I didn't want to repeat that. I searched online for a new dentist for ages but most of the reviews for each dentist were terrible. I decided to try out this office and I'm so glad I did. The receptionists were very nice and helped me reschedule my appt multiple times. When I actually went for the appt, I was treated very professionally. The whole office was very nice. Dr Alina L actually did my cleaning as well. She didn't pretend that I had cavities that didn't exist or push me to buy treatments I didn't need. She also reminded me that I could come to the office twice a year for my cleaning since that's included in my insurance. No other dentist has ever mentioned that to me. I also got this appointment through Groupon. I had a pretty good experience with Dr. Alina and her assistant, Melissa. My wait was pretty short (about 10 minutes) and the attending staff was friendly. My x-rays were taken with a modern digital system that I've never seen before. The x-ray process was a little longer than what I'm used to with the standard ones, but Dr. Alina explained that the digital ones are more clear and accurate, and expose the patient to less radiation. During the cleaning, she worked together with the hygienist who helped out with keeping me clean and dry. They used another tool that I've never experienced, a high pressure water pick. I found it to be less painful and much quicker than the old metal ones. All this new technology makes me feel like it's been a while since i've been to the dentist. Went here today for a second opinion after another dentist recommended some expensive procedures for sensitive teeth. It's safe to say I won't be going back to my old dentist - NYC Dental Associates is great! The office manager, Alicia, is a gem. She helped me figure out my insurance, getting on the phone with them after I had checked in to make sure I would be covered. After my consultation with the dentist, she explained all costs and treatments clearly to make sure I understood what was and wasn't covered. Most of all, she made me feel welcome and comfortable! Dr. Alina Lukashevsky and the hygienist were great too. Super friendly and helpful, and I felt like they were actually listening to what I had to say. Dr. Alina came up with a less costly (and quite frankly seems like a more effective) treatment solution for my tooth sensitivity and took the time to really explain what caused the sensitivity and how to prevent further problems down the road. It's not a settling feeling switching healthcare providers, especially dentists, and she has taken such incredible care of my teeth over the years that I hesitate to switch doctors. Dr. Lukashevsky is extremely thorough and always has the wishes and best interests of the patient at heart. I don't quite understand the negative reviews here. As someone who has had considerable dental work, I can attest that this office was run professionally and to my standards. I am someone who also came in because of a group purchasing deal, and felt that this is a place that I'd finally return to (after trying a few). After switching jobs and health care providers, I was on a search for a new dentist who accepted my insurance. Luckily someone recommended Dr Alina Lukashevsky at the NYC Dental. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the office. It didn't have the typical morbid "Dentist Office" feel. Instead it was tastefully furnished with upbeat music playing in the reception area, which really puts you at ease and makes you forget that you're about to have a very unpleasant dental procedure. The doctor was very professional and gave me a thorough check up as well as a cleaning. She made suggestions as to what type of treatments I might need in the future. After coming back to work I recommended her to a few of my coworkers as well. Never got assisted by this "professional", my appointment was originally confirmed when I booked it via ZocDoc, but when I visited the location of NYC Dental Associates their rude staff said that it wasn't their problem that I had booked my service via ZocDoc. Went in with a living social voucher. They were well accommodating even though I was like 10-15mins late. They took x-rays and told me I had some little shallow cavities. The cleaning was a bit abrasive as I have tight teeth and it caused some bleeding in between. I was told I did not have any issues with serious cavities and I ended up seeing another dentist. It's not common for me to write a review but this dental office so terrible that I feel a duty to do so. I have never experienced more inexperienced assistants. To be specific, when reading my x-ray I had to tell her that it was obviously upside down, to which she laughed and said oh yeah! Then came my cleaning....Ahhhhhhh! The dentist took no care and managed to bang on my front teeth every time she entered and exited my mouth. It was terrible and lead to a cracked tooth that required a root canal. Do not go here!!!!! I actually managed to block the experience out because it was so traumatizing but then my roomie came home the other day and asked about the terrible dentist I went to months back because he believed he might have gone there. We discovered that it was in fact the same place and he too expressed that it was the worst dental experience he's ever had! Came in for a filling the other day on my wisdom tooth and Dr Alina did an amazing job! I choose to have fillings instead of pulling the tooth out. It wasn't an easy job as Dr Alina had to rebuild my tooth on both sides with fillings and then also cut away a bit of the gum to prevent future cavity. She and her assistant made the whole process as relaxing as possible for me, keeping me posted of the procedure as we go along. On top of it all, Dr Alina did such a beautiful job cosmetically speaking. I have also previously came in for crowns and can't be happier with the results! Have to say she is the best dentist I have experienced in the city! She always has her patient's best interest at heart, unlike most other dentists I have came across with. I am in the middle of getting a crown. I must say that so far Dr. Alina really knows what she is doing. She has given me what they call a Core Build-up. She did it painlessly and fast. I can't say enough amazing things about Dr. Lukashevsky. I am so glad I found her. I came to her wanting to replace 15-year old front bridge. During first appointment she examined me thoroughly and gave me several options for consideration (including an implant), providing me with the prices / pros and cons for each option. I ended up getting an implant for the missing tooth and getting total of 8 front teeth done - combination of veneers, crowns and an implant. It was an extremely difficult procedure and Alina was amazing throughout the whole process. She gets really excited about her work, she is very personable, so considerate. (1) Getting an appointment I've had the situations where I've had to see someone in an emergency situations, and non-emergency. During an emergency situation, I was able to see someone the same day, right before the weekend. So they make their patients feel that they matter. (2) At appointment time Wait is usually 10-15 mins. During that time, I take the time to look at the art pieces (the place doubles as a mini art gallery) and chat with the staff. They're super-friendly and funny. I've actually kept in touch with them outside of the office. (3) Treatment Professional, with modern equipment, and good bedside manner. (4) Post treatment I've had a couple of billing issues in the past, but they always do their best to fix things, and actually follow-up when they say they will. That matters a lot to me. No stars. Negative stars if possible. I went here because its the closest dental office to my apartment covered by my insurance. There was no one to greet me at reception. I had a 9am appt. I got there at 8:50 and stood around with no one helping me. The receptionist got there at 9:10 and then didn't even say anything, just "who are you seeing?". Then I still wan't seen for another 20 minutes. I had xrays first. They were crooked, in some of the images you couldn't even see the root. Whats the point then? I saw Alina Lukashevsky, DDS, who took maybe about 5 minutes, at most, to clean my teeth and then try to sell me invisalign. My teeth are straight, thank you very much. I DO NOT need to spend thousands of dollars on invisalign. She was just trying to upsell me. Its disgusting. The cleaning was incredibly painful. I even told her, "that was brutal!", and she didn't apologize, just said, "oh well you should at least feel clean now". I said, "All I feel is pain." Still no apology just silence. She didn't let me spit or give me any time to breathe or take a break during the cleaning. Just kept going and going without any regard to how I was feeling or my pain level. She was stretching my lips so wide that they cracked, and didn't offer me any vaseline or moisturizer. She was HORRIBLE and I don't know how she can have a dental license. I was still in a pain even 10 days later. I will also be reporting her to my insurance carrier. It was traumatizing. I will clearly never be back there and do not recommend it if you want a good thorough cleaning and a conscientious provider. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I would like to start off by saying DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTAL FACILITY. I went in because I had a filling fall out. It was a simple cavity clean out and fill. They immediately started off by "informing" me that amalgam fillings are not done any more. Which I know is not true. But the dentist, having only looked at my tooth for less than 60 seconds, starts to run down the list of "possible" procedures. (Please be aware, I had already mentally prepared myself for this) and I allowed her to proceed. The dentist continued on to say that I may need a root canal and so forth. She asked me if I would like to proceed today and I informed her that I would. ***lord knows I don't want to lose a tooth*** So after her 45 second analysis of my tooth, she sends in the clerk to price my possible costs. Immediately the red flags went off. She stated that a simple posterior filling was $160 (as per my insurance it's $65l, a porcelain filling (what the dentist was pushing me to get) would be $1500 (as per my insurance it's $365l. When she saw this disbelief in my face she stated "I'm assuming I should stop because it only gets more expensive from here". I told her that she had my co-pays incorrect as I already priced the procedures with my insurance and I had the insurance copay book with me. I was told that I couldn't possibly know my co-pays because she has the list and I was wrong. Obviously this infuriated me because she's belittling my intelligence. I was also told that i couldnt be attended to that day because next patient had arrived. Please be aware...I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TOO!!! I waited over an hour to be seen and I was going to be sent home without my tooth being attended to. So I asked how much do I owe for the consultation as I would be leaving. I paid my $25 visit fee and was told I would be emailed my x-rays. (FYI: 1 month later and NO x-rays. Even though I paid for them) Upon leaving the clinic, I called my insurance to get the right price. My insurance happily called the clinic to figure out what happened... and the clerk told MY insurance that I was rude and emotional!!!! My insurance rep corrected the clinic and informed them that my prices were in fact $65 for a filling and $365 for a porcelain filling. My insurance immediately allowed me to change my primary dentist so I never have to deal with these thieves again. One representative from my insurance looked up the clerks name and stated that she was new and did not follow procedure and it appeared that she was trying to upsell me to procedures that I did not need and were completely cosmetic and not covered under my insurance. Going to the dentist is difficult enough as it is.... but to have to tolerate such blatant ignorance and disrespect is beyond acceptable. It's great that you went to school to learn how to use medieval tools of torture, but that does not make you smarter than your patients. With that being said, if you don't mind being ripped off and have a mouth full of needless procedures, then by all means go to this clinic.... if you want QUALITY dental care however, please find a reputable dentist. This was my second time to see this dentist. I selected them because they received a high rating on Zoc Doc. The first time I saw them, I was a new patient and understood the 40 minute wait. Today, I can't understand why they allow you to set an appointment at all. If it is a 'first come first serve' business then just be upfront about it or set appointments logically. I was told after questioning the long wait time that they always run 30-45 minutes late and that this is very common in Manhattan. We will see about that, I will not be back. read more

The dentist Andy Wan who practices here should be sued for malpractice. Every morning when I wake up I am faced with the extreme trauma and devastation I am desperate to overcome because I saw this NYC Dental Associates dentist. Last summer when I went into this dentist for a cleaning, I had never had a cavity before in my life, only a minor sealant on one tooth. Andy Wan told me I had six (6) cavities and needed to have these cavities drilled out, in addition to two (2) sealants. He stated a total of 8 teeth needed drilling. Shocked and terrified by this, as I had never had dental issues before, I agreed to let him do the work. This was one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made in my entire life. He drilled and he drilled and he drilled, doing extremely aggressive work on all teeth, reducing my teeth to minuscule nubs with terribly finished fillings - cracks and fissures throughout every filling. When he got to the last tooth, he told me I needed a root canal, and (again) extremely shocked as I had no pain in that tooth - I went to a root canal specialist, who told me I absolutely did not need a root canal, that my tooth was totally healthy. I went back to Andy Wan, and he concluded I would need to have the rest of that tooth drilled out and an onlay put in. He drilled out my entire tooth down to the nerve and put an onlay in. When I went home, to my family dentist I have seen since birth, he told me ALL OF THE WORK THAT WAS DONE BY ANDY WAN WAS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY. All in all, I am now, many months later, still extremely traumatized by this horrific experience. Due to the very aggressive and sloppy work he did I have deep pain in many of my teeth, cheeks, and ears on a regular basis and have had to have many of the fillings redone. Dentists collect money based on each tooth that they do work on. Not only did he make his money, but he completely stole my trust and took advantage of me. This man should be removed from his position as a dentist, as he does unnecessary (and extremely bad) dental work to fill his own pockets. I am not a germ freak but I do like things to be slightly more sterile than the floor of my apartment, where the 5 second rule doesn't apply, especially medical and dental offices. I saw the dentist drop something on the floor without washing it or sterilizing it and put it away...I almost squealed like a pig (Deliverance!) I have never had such a bad cleaning/polishing check-up in my life...it took all of 5 minutes?!? Maybe she thought my teeth were too clean and so she didn't need to do her job, or maybe they want me to get cavities so that I can finance some new office equipment- the office is old and dingy and the dental chair looked like it could trade "who's dirtier" stories with a hotel mattress. Pros: Got an appointment quickly although initially had to call back when their system went down. Didn't experience a long wait time in the lobby. Nice location/area. Dentist will sit and let you ask questions. They give you listerine after your cleaning. Cons: Didn't feel very comfortable in the cramped dentist quarters. Twice when my teeth were being worked on, dental techs walked in and out and I was very worried that one of those times they'd bump into the dentist while her tools were in my mouth because the chair was 2 inches away from the door. The first assistant who took my xrays seemed bored, kind of shoved this tool in my mouth and after she was done checked her phone. I felt the cleaning was a bit rough because my gums hurt a bit after and they never used to with my old dentist, and felt my teeth could have been cleaned a little longer. Like the other reviewers, I bought Groupons. One for my daughter and one for myself. We moved to NYC about a year ago, and have been looking for a dentist. I thought this seemed a good way to try it out. Our experiences were exactly like the others. I was there 2 hours--all for a 10 minute teeth-cleaning. The assistants were very nice. The dentist, perhaps a Russian woman, was nice--but I was shocked that she was doing the cleaning herself! Where was the hygenist?? She was very rough, and I stopped her often because it was so painful (some kind of laser), and I have a high tolerance for pain. As a business owner, I hate to leave bad reviews, but I experienced the exact same situation as the previous reviewer: "She then placed a picture on the screen to show me that "the cavity was very large" and a regular filling would not suffice. I just kept thinking, well duh you just drilled out my old filling and made the cavity fucking larger. She then sent the receptionist in to tell me my options. One was a root canal with a crown, the other an inlay which may mean I could possibly need a root canal later down the road if it became a problem. This tooth has never bothered me and the inlay was cheaper so I went that route. The receptionist proceeded to tell me that I needed the $1000 up front before they could go ahead with the impression." The dentist herself was very pleasant, but you don't tell someone when they come in that the cavity will cost $36 then wait until they are laying down with half of their tooth now missing and their face numb that they need to cough up $1000 cash on the spot to leave with a functioning tooth. That's called a shakedown. The assistant caused me more pain with the suction tube that the dentist did with 3 shots of anesthetic and the removal of half my tooth. She pushes the tube so hard against your lip that it pinches it against your teeth. I understand that leaning on my face is more comfortable than using the muscles in your arm to hold up your hand but it is painful, and I generally have a tolerance for pain. This is the worst dental office. I've never experienced such unprofessionalism from the front desk receptionists to the dentist do not go here and is really a disappointment considering I love Dr Fagelman and should not associate himself with this unprofessionalism. The front desk is completely unorganized do not remember you or call you back nor do they hardly answer the phones. When they do answer they are inconsiderate and have no idea what is going on. And expect to wait for a long time in the waiting room for less than average dental work as they rush you out. I will not go here ever again! read more
