I hadn't eaten from New China Hut in a long time but I was downtown and Chinese sounded good so I placed an order for the Empress Chicken dinner but paid a little extra to substitute a combination fried rice for the chicken fried rice. The empress chicken and fried rice were really good with generous portions for both as well as a good mixture of shrimp, beef, chicken and pork in the rice. I've had better egg rolls though and wasn't a fan of the sweet and sour dipping sauce that came in a cup with the meal. It was just a little too sweet for my taste. The meal was good overall and the takeout order was prepared really fast. The staff were nice on the phone and when I was picking up my order, but at a cost of $20 I will probably consider going to other places next time I'm in the mood for Chinese takeout. read more

I love Chinese food and decided to switch things up and try someplace new. Unfortunately, I can't say I will be a returning customer at New China Hut. We ordered take-out on a Saturday night. They said it would take 30-40 minutes to be delivered but it didn't come until over an hour later. We ordered the sweet and sour chicken dinner. The chicken was warm and crispy but only came with one tiny container of sweet and sour sauce which was barely enough for half the chicken. It also came with an egg roll and TON of white rice. Half the platter was rice and it came with another small box of rice on the side. The rice was on the dry side too. We also ordered garden fresh vegetables. I can't say they seemed very fresh though. I don't know what other people are talking about. All I know is we drive from Sugar grove to pick up food here. The salt and pepper shrimp, orange chicken, sesame chicken, and house lo mien, shrimp fried rice, egg drop soup - all of it was delicious. Better than expected. It has gotten a lot of bad reviews but the last time it turned out fairly okay. New China Hut has a few locations and this one is in Aurora on River Street. Has pretty typical Chinese restaurant items. The menu also has a few vegetarian friendly choices including tofu. Came in recently to get carryout. It seems like it gets most business this way as there's never anyone inside. They seem to prefer this. A lot of times we came by the inside is closed. There's only a couple of inside tables. I ordered the Kung Pao Tofu at lunch. It's $11.35 for the only portion. This is one of the few vegetarian friendly choices here, and the only with tofu and not just vegetables. It only comes in the one size, as large. This has green peppers, mushrooms, onions, pea pods, and peanuts in a spicy Szechuan sauce. After eating it, both of us agreed it was much better than expected. The freshness others had problems from wasn't an issue. Good lunch meals at least the last time we came here. I've been a regular customer for years, coming in multiple times a month. Due to a miscommunication my order was incorrect. I kindly asked the lady at the counter If she could change my order to the correct thing( that I order EVERY time I order, and she refused. She told me it wasn't her problem and if I wanted something else to just pay for it. I again tried to explain it was a mistake and reminded her that I am there all the time. Oh my lawd! Today I tried the " spicy chicken with pepper and garlic sauce, lo mein". It's so freaking good! Spicy and flavorful. I walked over, placed the order, and a few minutes later I had a delicious lunch to bring home. Service was fast and perfect for my work from home day. I ordered in person on a freezing cold day yesterday, 1/5/22 Vegetable Lo Mein and Hot and Sour soup. I paid, left and got to the Paramount Theater where I was working and ready to eat and low and behold, NO SILVERWARE, NAPKINS OR FORTUNE COOKIE. I spent 10 minutes tracking down a fork and had to go upstairs and get a spoon for the soup. No one asked me if I needed any. My glasses were still frozen from walking outside. I called today and talked to the owner and she said you have to tell THEM you need it. She was rude and never even apologized. I guess the "customer is always right" is not practiced there. Bad experience. Ordered through UberEats and was supposed to be sweet & sour chicken with steamed rice. They sent chicken fried rice instead which I don't like. Called New China Hut...they kept putting me on hold, argued with me about what I ordered (UberEATS order showed what I ordered), finally admitted their mistake then asked if I wanted correct rice delivered. I'm very particular as to what I like to eat from Chinese restaurants. I stick to what I know best which is chicken fried rice. The "chicken" that this place has to offer in their rice I don't believe is chicken. It looks like it is until you try to pan fry it a little more to make it more well done when you get home. As you all know, if you overcook chicken it becomes dry. As I brown the outside of it, it somehow feels "squishy". I pull it apart and it looks like a bunch of gunk processed and pressed together. I don't know what they use but it is definitely NOT chicken and I think it is gross. I've tried this place twice to see if the second time around was any different and NOPE! It sure wasn't. Well, this is the most deaths in Chinese place I found in Aurora that's on my way home since I've moved they didn't make two mistakes before and I only did not correct it even when I came back, I don't eat eggs, so I have shrimp fried rice with no egg spicy then when I get home of course it has eggs in it so then she wants me to bring it back. I live in Macgomery. I'm not driving all the way down and I'm not doing it on my day off. I'll bring it back when I go to work. On a recent 25 mile bike ride, I made a critical beverage error since it was so hot and humid. With about 5 mile to go I needed water or something immediately! I stopped into this place and asked to buy a water, it was $1.35. I asked if he took apple pay and he said yes. On several occasions, I requested extra egg: I was charged $2.00. However, on several of my orders, there was either no egg or very little. Today, I ordered the vegetable fried rice with extra egg. When I went home and opened the container, I did not see any egg. So I took most of the food out of the container to examine further-- no egg. I returned the to the restaurant and informed the owner, she gets upset, returns my money and says, "I don't want your business." I think there is something fundamentally wrong: I don't need her business to survive; she needs my money to survive her business. the owner is very rude and disrespectful and has a sense of entitlement. I'll start off by saying that the River st. hut is where I've went to for years. I even had a spill in my car and lost all of the gravy from my egg foo young, and the owner gave me a cup of gravy. Unfortunately, Today, I called to add to my order, and specified that the person that asked me to add to my order asked for "A Lot" of sweet sour sauce. They asked me how much. I didn't know, so he said he'd add 10 packs, which I had no problem paying for. $2.30 for 10 packs is what I paid. Specifically asked when I picked up order if my sweet sour was in bag. Assured it was. Drove about 8 miles away. No sauce at all. While my food got cold, I drove to east china hut and asked them for sauce, and got 20 for $1.00. I have a $2.30 credit on River st, even after telling them the extent I had to go to to get what I was assured was in my bag, that I paid extra for. Not even a complimentary couple egg rolls. Just had to share this since I can't enjoy my food. Mistakes happen, but I expected a little more from the only place I've gone for Chinese since 2007. The food is still really exceptional. I placed a lunch special order for General tao chicken and crab rangoon for delivery. The price was over $21 which I believe was way over priced for the quality of food. The general Tao was not spicy at all and had a strong orange taste, did they make the wrong item, I believe so. The egg roll was horrible tasting and slimey. I found a long black hair in my crab rangoon cheese mixture and I have red hair so nope not mine. I will not order from here or recommend it to anyone!! read more

Sometimes you see a restaurant and just drive by it imagining it must be mediocre. That's what I did as I drove past the new China Hut #3 on River Street. One day I was on foot and hungry and so I begrudgedly walked in. I ordered some dishes to go. I got home and found the food was clearly fresh and AMAZING!!! Crisp vegetables. Generous portions. Not light on the meat in the entrees. I decided to go back. Maybe it was a fluke? Ordered 3 lunch specials. Very reasonable. Perhaps it was the first time I couldn't finish a Chinese meal! I may have added 3 egg rolls, but still- big servings. Thank you! Don't shrink them!!! You are now my family's go to place for great tasting healthy meals. I wish you success on River Street!
