Went around 6 PM on a Tuesday -- super empty, which made it a very chill experience. Plenty of parking in the plaza, and the vibe inside seemed fine from what I could tell. I ordered takeout, and the food was ready within 20 minutes. The woman who handed me the food was really nice and welcoming. Great service all around. Here's what we ordered: crab rangoons, vegetable summer rolls, chicken satay, beef drunken noodles, duck pad Thai, duck lion city noodles, and a Thai tea. The crab rangoons were definitely the highlight of the meal. These were genuinely great -- crispy, creamy, flavorful, and just really satisfying. My family loved them, and I would go back just for these alone. I'm guessing they're even better fresh out of the kitchen. The vegetable summer rolls were okay. Fresh and decent, but I wish they came with more dipping sauce -- we barely had enough for three people. Would've liked some protein in them too, but they were still a solid starter. The chicken satay just wasn't it for me. It was on the dry side and didn't have much flavor, even with the peanut sauce. My sister and mom liked it, so I think this one comes down to personal preference, but I wouldn't order it again. As for the noodle dishes -- they were all just mid. The beef drunken noodles, duck pad Thai, and duck lion city noodles were fine, but none of them stood out. They weren't bland, but they also weren't memorable. I was hoping for bold flavors, especially in the lion city noodles, but that one especially fell flat. I expected a dry curry noodle dish and instead got something that tasted like a basic stir fry. Not bad, just not exciting. The duck in both dishes was cooked fine, but again -- nothing wow-worthy. The Thai tea was a miss. I could tell just by looking at it that it had too much milk, and once I tasted it, it was basically sweet cream with barely any tea flavor. Wouldn't get again. Overall, the service was lovely and the crab rangoons made it worth the trip, but everything else was kind of forgettable. I wouldn't say no if someone wanted to come back here, but I also wouldn't be the one suggesting it. Still, for the area, it's nice to have a Thai spot that's fast and friendly -- I just wish the flavors packed a bit more punch. read more

We're so back. I would like to preface that originally, I agreed with the other reviewers that Nam Khong hasn't been the same since the new owners took over. The first time I got my usual here after the switch, it really was not as good as usual. Ordered in with some Nam Khong last night with my friends, EVERYONE loved their dish. I keep thinking about the Lao Khao Soi. PERFECT amount of spice, but still sweet and had an amazing texture. I loved being able to assemble the soup myself, so nothing was soggy! My vegan friend loved the Veggie tofu pad thai. I cannot speak for the service since I didn't pick up, but the quality of the food said everything for me. I am definitely going to start opting for Nam Khong again effective immediately! read more

i moved from los angeles, where you can get the best thai food in the country, to southeast connecticut back in 2022. i came here at least once a month or every two months since i found this restaurant on yelp. the crab rangoons and khao soi (tofu and duck were my faves) were my go tos, and the chili oil really amped it the deep flavors! i also enjoyed speaking with the owner peter-- he ran such a great restaurant. i was (and still am!) so sad to move away in summer 2023, because i still can't find a khao soi as flavorful and heart warming as the one i've had here. i can only hope the new owners can soon replicate what peter had left behind. i hope to dine here again in the future read more

We come here very frequently for a variety of food on the menu, including their curry dishes. stir-fries and the noodle dishes. They're so good and come with big portion . This place is owned by two sisters and they are super nice. read more

Nam Khong is an unassuming Laosian restaurant in a shopping plaza anchored by a hardware store. The food is served fresh and hot. This is one of our favorite spots for a healthy, quick, and delicious meal!! Heads up, it gets busy when the summer residents arrive. The restaurant is on Rte 1 in Westerly. After many many months of not eating here- hubby and I were greeted by the owner- by name! That's always very impressive. He chit chatted with us even before we could look at the menu but not in a bad way- we totally enjoyed the conversation and it made us feel like catching up with family. For starters we ordered the fried spring rolls with chicken and the fried Brussels sprouts. They make it so good here. It was perfect. Had to keep myself from licking the plates! Hubby opted for the Lao style Seafood Pho. The selling point was that it's made with real chicken broth- not msg filled bouillon. It had lots of scallops, a few shrimp and some tender squid. I chose the ginger duck. It had a nice gingery sauce with ginger matchsticks, snow pea pods, baby corn, peppers, and onions. The duck was nice and crispy. I also had a pot of Thai green tea. I've never had it before but it was very floral almost like a jasmine tea but I couldn't put my finger on it. Also smelled sweet like dulce de leche or something. The only thing was -- it's seriously green! Like spirulina kombucha lol. I really enjoyed it and I am a huge tea drinker. Peter, the owner, seems to like it a lot too! He says that since he's discovered the tea, he's been drinking it daily. While eating - there were about 3 take out orders, another couple eating, and a group of 7 who seemed to be on their lunch break and they called in their orders. All the apps were ready upon arrival and they only had to wait 5 min max for the rest of their food. They seem to make a trip to Nam Khong quite often. They offer beer and wine now. There are also 2 small tables for outdoor dining. Please give this place a shot! The food here is delicious! read more

It seems like they had a change of ownership in the summer of 2023 but the food is still very good. I've tried a few of the Thai restaurants in the area and for my taste this is the best. Their dishes are better balanced and fresher than the others I have tried. They also are more Lao/Thai and less Americanized than the others. The Khao Soi, Pad Thai, Curries and the fresh spring rolls are very good. I would not hesitate to go further into their menu. Everything has been fresh and delicious. read more

Up until a year two years ago this was one of our favorite restaurants locally. Great food, blending of flavors, and small quiet atmosphere. Greeted by the owner, a gentleman in his 50's, always with a smile and good conversation. fabulous food!! The greeting hasn't changed but it's a new owner now. The previous owner is now in Providence at a new restaurant. About a year ago we stopped in and something just wasn't the same. The food lacked but we thought okay, every business has a bad day. Today we went in and confirmed it. The food definitely had changed. Up until a year ago there was never a need for a take home box. Today not even half of the food at the table was finished and it all got packed up. We left feeling we had eaten very heavy. We definitely will not be back and this place is destined to go under. I used to dine here at least once a week and loved it. Its small and simple inside. When Peter owned it the food was amazing. Unfortunately he sold it. The food and service went way downhill. For whatever reason we have a lot of Thai options in South County and we've been to quite a few. This lovel family restaurant is Laotian and I felt the extra spice in our meals and loved it! We ordered the Naim Chao which I have to say isn't as good as Jacky's Galaxy or Dragon Palace. We also tried the Laotian Chicken Lab Salad, Pad Woonsen, and Nam Kong Special . This is a hidden gem in a strip mall in Westerly. It's a mom and pop restaurant, with food actually cooked to order. We had great spring rolls followed by chicken curries, one green, one red. Both superb and more than ample in flavor and quantity. Lots of crunchy broccoli and other vegetables. Owner is an affable fellow who takes good care of his guests. Very good Thai cuisine, the Tom Yum Soup was excellent as was the Fiery Pad Thai, the noodles were cooked perfectly; the over all flavor was well above average. Papaya salad was slightly disappointing as the papaya was piled high on lettuce wedges giving the appearance of more papaya still the dish was very good but on the nuclear hot side, so beware. This is a very small resto with no AC, so take that into consideration when dediciding to dine there during the hotter months. I certainly would return to try more of their menu items as these folks do and outstanding job in the kitchen. read more

Really pleasantly surprised by the food here. My family and I spent the weekend in Weekapaug and were craving Asian food so we gave this place a shot. Really recommend the duck pho and my husband had the Nam Khong, which I believe is the signature dish (similar to curry with rice). The broth for my pho was flavorful, clean-tasting, and the duck seemed pretty fresh too. I opted for egg noodles instead of rice noodles, and was heartily satisfied. This is a great place for a quick, easy meal. I go there often and always love getting their curry dishes. Recently, I needed something cozy for these corona times. I was happy to see how they had the take out area set up. The restaurant is blocked off by floor to ceiling plastic, and there's a small plastic flap that you pay through and get your food through. Every experience we have had at Nam Khong has been great. The authentic Laotian and Singaporean food is delicious, and a welcome change from the typical other Asian restaurants. Their spicy dishes are great, however they won't make them "extra spicy", but will give you extra spices on the side. This is due to bad interactions with past customers trying to get free food when the "extra spicy" food that they ordered was too spicy for them. Brussel sprouts were excellent and a must do, even if you're not a huge fan you must try them grilled or fried. Nothing is really spicy hot even though I asked for explosion level. Food was good for Thai... not as good as I expected though so I can't give it 5 stars for taste reasons. Pricing was good for the portions, lasted a couple days. Tom Soup was decent. Shrimp pad Thai ok, lots of shrimp, but not a lot of sauce so ended up being all noodles with minimal taste after the shrimp was gone. Chicken was decent sized and plentiful in all my orders. I think it's a great place for starter Thai foodies... and I hope they do well cause they're so friendly and actually speak English! There are 3 other Thai places within a mile of each other in Westerly that have a little more zip in their flavoring.
