I've lived nearby this shady "restaurant" for 4 years now and only just summoned the courage to go inside because 1) someone told me it was pretty good, 2) the reviews on yelp said it was pretty good, 3) the girlfriend was working late, 4) I am a lazy bastard and didn't feel like cooking and 5) I had been craving Chinese for about a week. Upon walking in you are immediately greeted by the site of steel bars covering the kitchen and a bullet proof plastic window where you place your order. In my brief glance into the kitchen, I would not say that the kitchen was particularly clean or organized. Pristine is not a word I would use in describing any part of the premises. Summoning additional fortitude, I followed through with my order. I ordered the beef in oyster sauce and a side order of crab rangoon. The beef and oyster sauce is served with beef (most likely?), several types of mushrooms, carrots, and mini-corn and a giant side of white rice. The crab rangoon is clearly not made of crab, but do you usually get crab in crab rangoon? Overall, the food was surprisingly edible, I might even say almost tasty; however, even for an inexpensive takeout restuarant, I expected a cleaner place. I used to go to an equally inexpensive chinese restaurant that probably had equal quality food, but it was more appetizing solely 'cause of the cleanliness. The food was pretty bad, which says a lot coming from me, the girl who eats everything. We ordered General Tso's chicken, which turned out to be fried balls of chicken fat peppered with pieces of chicken, and the Sweet and Sour chicken, which was more like pigs in blanket but with itty bitty tiny bits of chicken and a neon red "sweet and sour" sauce that came separately to accompany it. I ended up throwing my entire portion away. They get an extra star because if you spend over $10, they give you a free can of soda. Diet Coke is the key to my heart, after all. read more

This is my go-to Chinese take out place near BMC. They have great prices for the large portion sizes. The lunch special (from 11-3) is great, my standard order is the General Tso's chicken. Take note that they only take cash, the CVS across the street has an ATM. There is limited seating, I wouldn't recommend dining in. I really love this chinese food. Delivery is fast and it's reasonably priced. The General Gau comes with so much sauce and it's soft and delicious. It also comes with white rice. Beef lo mein is also tasty. The small crab rangoon comes with 6 and could use a little more filling but still very good. They also always give us free soda which is sweet. Probably not the cleanliest of places. I always order to go but the food is greasy, tasty, and affordable. If you order at least $10, you get a free soda. They also have other specials. Ordered delivery from here. Food (scallion pancakes, veggie fried rice) was about what you expect from a cheap, late night Chinese food restaurant. Pluses included a pretty large amount of food and quick delivery. Cons included average food at best and $13 minimum for delivery (had to get a soda to get to the minimum cause I was ~50 cents short otherwise). Not wanting to grab CVS energy bars and a random drink on sale while on lunch break at work, I decided to check this place out. As soon as you walk in, you see one of those old $0.50 sticker/tattoo/assorted junk dispensers, menu taped to the side of the wall, a couple benches, and a plastic window shield where you place your order. I ordered chicken fingers, fries (don't judge, I wanted fries that day), and dumplings from here before. The chicken fingers were as expected, greasy and satisfying to your stomach when you are hangry and really want food. Granted, I still question the quality and consistency of the "chicken". On another day, I ordered fries and dumplings. The fries were nothing special but then again, anybody who isn't craving fries wouldn't order fries at a Chinese - American takeout restaurant. The dumplings were below par with specific attention paid to the dumpling skin which was a tad too thick. Nevertheless, I also have to consider that this is mostly a Chinese American restaurant (crab rangoons, pu pu platter, etc.) so you can't expect the quality to surpass anything in Chinatown. The food was overall kind of meh but the portions are pretty big. Likewise, service was quick and fairly efficient. One of the best Chinese takeout places in Boston. It's like any Chinese takeout place - no decor, a bit greasy looking and owner with ok English. But, they do have some great dish if you order the right thing. My favorite is curry chicken. My husband loves the general gau's chicken. All the main dish have good flavors. I got chicken and broccoli from here tonight with beef rice ,the rice was good but beef was chewy and the broccoli was good but the chicken pieces didn't taste or have the consistency of chicken it tasted more like fat maybe chicken fat? One of the best take out Chinese places in the south end, which really isn't saying anything. If you are looking for half decent food to pig out on when you make it a blockbuster night with good standard apps and entrees that are just a bit shy of "good" but not gross, then this is your jam. Very Tasty! I've only order Sesame Chicken, crab rangoons, and the spring rolls but it's all delicious every time. Placed an order today as I do a few times per month for lunch and the food was horrible. I ordered the A10 shrimp fried rice, lobster sauce, chicken wings and chicken fingers. The food was gross. The rice was hard, the chicken fingers looked as if they were about two days old. Inside was meat was brown, hard, and dry. The lobster sauce had no flavor and looked like someone spit in it. This place is disgusting. I went with a friend of mine back in September who was craving Chinese food. We were close by and decided to stop in here, since I hadn't explored much of Boston and didn't know where to get it. We walked in here and the place was just gross. They weren't using gloves, and I saw flies EVERYWHERE! The place just looked dirty. I stood in there for maybe two minutes and said that we had to leave. I can't imagine what kind of bacteria and things would be all over the food. This place is a prime example of why you should never order food from a place that you haven't been inside before. I can't say if the food tastes great or not, because I didn't try it. But if I ordered from here, I can't even imagine what extra ingredients that I would get with my food. read more

The food here is terrific!!!! It is cheap. The general gao's chicken is fabulous, the house special lo mein is the best money can buy. The crab rangoon is good. It used to be better. The moo goo gai pan is great as well. Judging from some of these other people's comments, they do not know much about what goes on in all restaurants. The biggest complaints are the cleanliness and one person even wrote how they "sort raw food in buckets on the floor." Wow, that is just awful. I am assuming this person never buys from supermarkets, because their food is in containers on the floor as well. Anyway, if anyone judges the cleanliness, don't. I have known dozens of people who have eaten there multiple times, and no one I know has gotten sick at all. However, they do usually love the food, though.
