Sorry ! I forgot to take a pic before I started digging in... crispy chicken & wonbok has been eaten already in this pic.
T. V.

Went to do a pick up . Had me a combination plate #16 . Called it in - took 15 mins. Received food nice & hot . Plate included Crispy chicken , Spare ribs , Steam pork ( Kau Yuk) & vegetables for $18.95 I chose Fried rice ( xtra $1 charge ) Tho' vegetable was considered 4 pcs of wonbok cabbage ( sm. Cuts) and chicken could've been a bit more crispier also fried rice was more white rice w/ a slight consistency of sticky rice . But all in all I'd say the food was tasty & good . And I enjoyed it . Service was nice considering had only one person serving & taking orders . She was very courteous . Place looks very nice and clean if you wanted to dine in . Not a very busy place tho' , only had 2 tables occupied with family of 4 - 6 people . Looks like a great place to have family or friends for dinner and have great conversations or catching up with eachother 's lives in this busy world . Ambiance was nice and bright so you won't fall asleep as soon as your tummy is stuffed . Sorry ! I forgot to take a pic of my plate before digging in ! Wonbok & crispy chicken has been eaten up already here. Plate were made just in the right amount for me , tho' I think for a guy they may still be hungry for a little more . And for a plate for nearly $20 you'd more likely expect a little bit more also ..... and for that I gave this place a 4 star

From the buffet line! Ribs, shrimp, and the lil rice balls..

Food was great! I remembered this place for five years ago while visiting Hilo today! Friendly staff/workers and owners! Parking lot is good and the buffet line has great choices of food! What's shown on my plate is my go to there! .. try 'em out!

My first red flag was when the table in the front had a hair in their food .... But hey that's beside the point. The shrimp fried rice had 7 shrimp...7!!! It's not seasoned at all just egg and boiled shrimp , not even a lil green onion or soy sauce ..then the duck was like greasy and lacked luster and I asked for the duck "sauce "/ drippings and I was given hosin sauce ( ew) but I ate some because I'm not wasting my money lol. Did I mention I payed $58....... And for that much I would've expected the customer service to be top tier ... and no shocker the food matched the customer service 0/10 again. I'm not mad just disappointed. First restaurant in Hilo -0 /10 .

The restaurant itself seems like your typical Chinese restaurant setup with some booths along the window and larger round tables in the middle. It is a smaller restaurant, so maybe 10ish tables are inside max. We try to mix things up every time we come, but we always get the salt pepper pork ribs and the hot and sour soup! I find most places are either a hot or miss with the soup, but they are definitely my favorite place that makes it! And the pork ribs are the best. As my mom puts it, they're the perfect accompaniment to any meal since they're so crispy and tasty. She even commented she would get just the ribs so she can "snack" on it while watching the Super Bowl. Service can be a bit on the slower side, but every time we came, there's only been one person in the front answering the phone while catering to the people dining in and I believe they make the food when you order it so definitely not a quick place to eat if you're short on time but I find the wait always worth it.

The servers were running around all night, and it seemed that they were a little bit understaffed. However, they still did their best to attend to us, and food came out promptly. As most other pho shops, they provide plenty of bean sprouts, mint, lemons, and sauces (oyster sauce/Sriracha) to enjoy. Pho Rare Beef (6.5/10) - the broth was good, flavorful, rich and salty as expected from Vietnamese pho. As this spot is kind of a Viet/Chinese fusion, don't go in expecting the best pho of your life. However, the broth is definitely delicious and will fix your pho cravings - only comment is regarding the beef itself. Some of the pieces were definitely a little thicker, tougher, and at points difficult to chew. The beef was not then these sliced into the brisket that I'm used to finding, but that's OK Overall, pretty good pho spot on the Big Island with quite tasty broth. Only wish that the beef was either thinner and easier to chew, or more tender.

Parking is okay but might be a little difficult during rush hour. The parking lot is on the right side of the restaurant. The inside has a bit of an older vibe, but the food and service were great.

We showed up right when they opened at 5:30 p.m. without reservations on a Wednesday evening and was luckily able to get seated at the bar. Between the two of us, we ordered a bunch of items off the "small" section of the menu, including the smokey sashimi, sizzling tetsuyaki poke, smoked tonnato caesar, crispy rice, and their special of the day -- agedashi wontons. Of the items we ordered, the crispy rice and the agedashi wontons were my favorite items. The crispy rice is priced per piece, and you'll certainly want to order at least two per person, because one is simply not enough. The rice block is fried a beautiful golden brown -- similar to a hash brown. The crispy rice pairs perfectly with the ono mixture on top of it. With the agedashi wontons, I initially thought the filling was a bit under-seasoned at first, but when enjoyed with the broth, the wonton comes out tasting perfectly seasoned. The broth had so much umami to it and the wonton had the perfect crunch to it I always love a good Caesar salad and the one here is spectacular. With anchovy croutons, shaved cured egg yolk, and smoked ahi dressing, you're getting some creative, premium ingredients in this salad and everything works so well together. Even if you're not a salad person, I would definitely recommend giving this dish a try. On top of delicious food, the service at Moon & Turtle was spectacular. Food was promptly brought out after we placed our order, pacing didn't ever feel rushed, our water cups were never empty, and our server checked on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. I would definitely stop by Moon & Turtle again if I'm in Hilo.

Bruddah Jarrod, MAHALO fo' your AWESOME post of your GRINDZ, cuz that's what led me here at Sum Leung Chinese Kitchen! Located at a large strip mall where the KTA Super Store is located on Puainako, you can find Sum Leung Chinese Kitchen along with other eateries & cellular phone businesses. Da line was supah long when I arrived for lunch today (das one good sign), but when I finally made it into the restaurant, I could see so many ono choices. Upon looking over da hot food items, I decided to get da two item plate with choice of starch. I got the following - Lemon Chicken, Beef Broccoli *I don't eat beef, but ate all the veggies*, 1/2 Fried Rice & 1/2 Chow Mein Noodles. What can I say about da grub? Ono kine comfort food at it's BESTEST!!! Loved da Lemon Chicken, nice & crispy with a great lemon sauce. I even put some of dat sauce on my fried rice! Buggah was ono! I liked the veggies with da beef broccoli, and it was the perfect side with all my starch. I saw a sign that said Chow Fun is sometimes available, but unfortunately when I stopped by today, I did not see any chow fun. Easy access to Sum Leung Chinese Kitchen because it's situated in a large strip mall with plenty of free parking. No inside dining, as Sum Leung Chinese Kitchen is strictly "take-out, grab & go". If ya wanna eat right away, no worry beef curry, get plenty covered picnic tables located just outside of da business! Jonesing for local kine Chinese comfort food? Check out Sum Leung Chinese Kitchen in sleepy Hilo town!
