Great place for breakfast or lunch. Busy every time I've gone, but turnover is fast and so is the friendly service. They have a great menu. I tried the Turkey and Brie sandwich and have to say it was not as good (flavor full) as the other dishes I've had there. Still, this is a can't go wrong stop. read more

My experience today was not as great as the first one. When we arrived it was quite busy and it was understandable that we waited for about 10 minutes. The servers just do not seem happy to be there. The busboy Nathan was friendly. The place needs a major overhaul. Even my daughter said, I don't really like the vibe here. It's kinda pricey (but understand me cause it is great quality food) but it's like a used up diner setting or Hwy 55. There is a bar but everything is just drab and kinda dirty looking. My daughter had a club sandwich with French fries which was above average. And I had the turkey, Brie and pear sandwich on whole grain bread instead of Texas toast with fruit. It was very good. Kathy and I decided to try this place at the suggestion of a friend and we are glad we did. Leland is definitely coming up in the world with a nice selection of locally owned businesses providing a mix of cuisines. New Day Cafe is located in the Waterford area, right off 17 South and easy to find. A small cafe with some outside seating (definitely not a good idea today though) and a warm welcome as soon as you come in the door. A good amount of seating at tables and at the bar; seat yourself policy which I like. The coffee comes automatically and is hot and tasty; the menus offer a wide variety of typical breakfast fare as well as some interesting options that you don't see anywhere else. The Monte Cristo appealed to my sense of trying new things and it was wonderful. French toast with honey-glazed ham, blueberries, and a touch of syrup (just right for my taste). The prices were as welcoming as the staff and Michelle did an exemplary job of keeping our coffee cups full. Great service and menu; what's not to like? read more

Our daughter lives here and she recommended this place. We were not disappointed! Best food we've had for a long while! My wife had the crab cakes. They were amazing! I had The Catch, which was Red Drum fish, which is a local cuisine. It was fantastic. Our daughter got the horseradish salmon. All three of these dishes were just delicious we might have snitched from each other! Our server was the son of the chef. He was fun and just right for our group. This was our second visit, and we were as pleased this time as we were previously. The food was great. My turkey, pear and Brie sandwich was excellent. My guy's flounder was very tasty. The service could not have been better. Our only complaint was the key lime pie we shared was a bit underwhelming. Otherwise, we would have happily given 5 stars. My friend suggested a new restaurant in Leland for our monthly lunch. I'm always up for something new so we went to New Day Cafe in Waterford, Leland, North Carolina. I had a challenging time getting into the parking lot as GPS said where to turn but obviously I was going against. The flow of traffic, made me a few minutes late and a little embarrassed to be going down the wrong lane in the parking lot, it is not a big parking lot. Lot. I was able to get good parking on the side and for a noon lunch. That was a good thing. I do hear that you can often have a line if you come for breakfast or brunch, just FYI. Quite an extensive menu, and list of specials, they serve breakfast and lunch so it was a momentous task to pick what to have. I finally decided on French toast, but which one? The special that was called the s'more French toast or the regular that sounded delicious. So when the waitress came after I had time to study the menu, I asked you which one would be better and she steered me towards the everyday french toast, as the other one is a little hard to eat. She said It tastes excellent but it has marshmallow in it which makes it a challenge to consume. I didn't have a beverage. I stuck with water, the place was definitely full, but it wasn't loud. It was a nice environment. My friend ordered like a spicy egg fajita type bowl and she loved it, she doesn't even look at the menu anymore because it's her favorite thing to get there. Both of our meals were delicious and I have posted pictures of both of them. They were nice-sized portions. If you're hungry, you easily didn't need to take home a doggy bag, but if you're trying to watch it, I took half mine home. The price wasn't terrible. You know right now there's a lot of sticker shot on the prices that restaurants are charging, well, not cheap, it was not expensive. It felt like they were right on the money. You don't have to get dressed up to go here, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised by how good the food is. read more

Stopped in after discovering that our fist choice nearby was closed . Oh well - good for us or we wouldn't have found this place! (Thanks Yelp! ). Small little cafe back off the main drag on the corner of some other shops / businesses. We were greeted and seated immediately in a booth for 2. I ordered the breakfast burrito and cheese grits, hubby had meat lover's omelette and hash browns. The burrito was stuffed with chorizo, eggs, potatoes and perfectly grilled and crispy on the outside. The cheese grits were buttery and creamy. Hubs said his omelette was & potatoes were very good. Our server was excellent- friendly and on the spot with coffee refills. The only (small) takeaway was that they charged $1 extra for a small side of salsa... not a big deal - but one would think it should be included with a burrito? Cafe was small, but very clean. This restaurant has weathered the pandemic, supply chain problems, & the workforce shortage, all with a smile on their face. That tells you something. This location wasn't the best for the last few owners who served Asian food. I think opening up a cafe serving breakfast all day & lunch menu starting at 11:00 am is brilliant. Today is Thursday and they had half price French toast. Everyone at my job is excited to come eat here. We only have 1 other place to eat at within walking distance. read more

We love this restaurant - delicious menu items, pleasant staff. unfortunately, we have gone here several times over the past couple of weeks (one saturday evening early) and the place was closed. No sign on the door, no note - nothing. We weren't there at 2am or a day they were closed, so we were not only disappointed, but surprised and confused. Is this place still open? I realize there are issues with staff, and other issues due to the unstable economy. But surely if the place is closed when it should be open, courtesy would dictate that a small sign or note on the front door be present. If this place needs to close down for a week or two, so be it. I am happy to wait until things are a bit more stable, Hope all is well with the owners and/or staff. Look forward to eating here again soon... read more

While visiting my mom, she suggested this restaurant and said they serve an excellent breakfast and now they offer dinner. Upon arrival I thought that the restaurant screamed "breakfast" and I wasn't expecting much. I really doubted a place like this could pull of dinner well. Boy was I PLEASANTLY surprised! The dinner was excellent! The presentation was that of a pricey restaurant! The food was almost gourmet...I always get disappointed with dinner salad, usually it is full of iceberg lettuce and a sliver of a tomato! Their salad was sooo fresh and homemade dressing! They put toasted bread on the table - all those touches to me separate a mediocre restaurant from a very good restaurant! I wrote this review because this restaurant deserves to succeed! They need word of mouth endorsements because their location is in an area that gets no foot traffic nor do people drive by it! read more

Overall, this is not a bad place to go for a breakfast or lunch. It's nice that they serve breakfast all day. The Monte Cristo French toast is tasty and well prepared. It would have been nice to have had a fresh fruit side included with it for the price. The southwestern wrap was well made and was very flavorful. When paired with a side of their homemade chips it makes a rather filling meal. The homemade chips were the thinnest I've ever seen at a restaurant and were like homemade potato chips. It was shocking to find that they charge $0.75 for what equals about two tablespoons worth of ranch dressing. Our server JC was quite exceptional and friendly and is the sole reason this is a four-star review and not a three. When I first arrived I was concerned that the service was going to be subpar as the first employee that I dealt with was rather rude and brusque. JC turned that opinion regarding their service around. For being a busy Sunday morning the outdoor seating was taken up by people either eating or those just waiting for an inside table. There did not seem to be any logical type of crowd control as there were people who wanted to sit outside and then would discover when the people sitting there were called in that they were just taking up the table to wait and not actually waiting for an order. The staff needs to come up with some system of having a waiting area or making sure that people who are waiting are not taking up tables.The food was above average but nothing spectacular. read more
