This review for New Great Wall is long overdue, as my husband and I have been getting takeout from here since we moved to the neighborhood in 2019. It is our go-to spot for delicious Chinese American food. We have yet to come across any dish that we have not loved. I highly recommend their homemade pork and chive dumplings, which are among the best dumplings I've ever tasted, as well as their mooshu, boneless spare ribs, Singapore mei fun, and their pork egg rolls. My brother recently relocated to the neighborhood and also loves this place. The owners are so kind and sweet and always greet us with so much warmth. AMAZING DELICIOUS... omg the food was amazing I'm in a rehab an unable to walk. When ever I try I new Chinese spot I am usually disappointed, that is still the case here. Got a cold , had a bit of wine last night so it's a couch , movie and Chinese food type of day, my goto place doesn't use delivery apps and I have no cash so it's off to yelp I go..search Chinese food and new great wall pops up, never heard of it.. the menu looks great, all my favorites, looks like they make their own dumplings , they deliver to my house and they have grape soda..bonus points.. Let's do this then. Food arrives , everything looks good and that's about as good as this review gets , the general tso chicken was good , not great but not bad . Crabsticks had a wierd mushy texture , maybe they were old or defrosted and refroze , I dont know. Sesame noodles were over cooked and pretty flavorless , I asked for medium spice level and it tasted like they just put some vinegar based hot sauce in there, very odd flavor. The house dumplings tasted like dog food , I wish I was exaggerating . I asked for mustard , expecting Chinese spicy mustard , you know , because it's a Chinese resturant.. and got brown mustard. The grape soda was grape crush and is great lol , figures I finally find a place with grape soda and their food sucks . This is a great American Chinese restaurant with friendly staff. We got takeout from here and it's our new favorite American Chinese takeout spot. It's affordable and delicious. New great well is now open during this crappy pandemic. I did a pick up order today and they have a clear shield at the counter with a latch to give you the order and make cash transactions. Now, I appreciate they took this action but, I think they should place a sign outside to make it a rule to only enter with a face mask and have 3 customers inside. The less, the better. I hope they are reading this because I'm unsure how sanitary their measures are. Surfaces should be disinfected regularly and I feel lile they may not be doing so. I hope someone relays this message because we need to kick covid-19's ass! As for the food, I called to pick up and they were busy backed up with delivery orders so my order was not ready. I ended up waiting 20-25 mins or so. If you are calling for a pick up, ask how long it'll be. I ordered the chicken w/ brocc, shrmp w/ brocc, and lo mein. All dishes were on point flavor-wise but the lo mein noodles were overcooked so it broke off when you picked it up. The egg drop soup wasn't so great. I would pass on that. The woman who took the phone order is friendly and did apologize for the wait. Lunch special portions aren't big so if you have an appetite, go big or go home! read more

My family and I have from this place 10 times now. Their food is juicy, flavorful, and overall great. Their cooks definitely put love in their food. The Shrimp Dumplings are to die for! Plenty of shrimp inside and seriously addictive. $6.50 is a bit pricy, but they're worth every penny. They were very accomadating even I asked if they could swap out Mei Fun (thin noodle) for Chow Fun (thick, flat noodle) when I ordered their Singapore Mei Fun. It was spicy and unique in taste, and I enjoyed all of the meats and veggies.(The pieces are bigger if you order the bigger noodle) Their Szechuan Wontons (labeled red with a chili pepper) are also delicious. (But not at all spicy.) Another time, I ordered Hunan Beef, and requested that they make it MORE spicy, having learned how low the bar was set. Sadly, I believe they water down their spicy menu options. Don't expect much if you have a craving for spicy food. My local Chinese place half asses compared to these guys. Their food is pretty great. New Great Wall is my new go-to place for takeout! You won't regret trying them out! read more

I love the vegetable dumplings. All of their dumplings are made fresh to order but take forever to steam or fry. Call ahead and even if you do you'll be waiting. Also, they give a tiny dumpling sauce for 8 dumplings, asking for another tiny dumpling sauce will cost you 50 cents which brings one order of dumplings to $6.75 without tax. I ended up paying $7.30 for an order of dumplings in a sub par neighborhood and waiting 10 minutes in the restaurant after ordering online 20 min ahead. read more

Rating this place to give it some credit it deserves! It's your typical greasy neighborhood Chinese takeout spot, located on a fairly quiet block. Staff is nice enough, prices are cheap, portions are generous and service is quick. Our favorite orders to get here are the house special lo mein and sweet and sour chicken (normally a dish I avoid, but their seasoning is better than others I've tried). Beef and broccoli is tasty, but the beef is very obviously from frozen, so if you're particular about that, a legit Cantonese restaurant is the way to go. I haven't tried the other typical takeout dishes yet (Gen Tso, fried wings, pork fried rice) but so far, so good. read more

This is my favorite Chinese take out place. I grew up in this neighborhood and have been going to this restaurant since I was a kid. It used to have a different owner but the new owners are definitely better. I have been to other take out places and it's just not the same. When I moved away from this neighborhood, I definitely missed this restaurant and get a bit nostalgic whenever I am around this area. I definitely recommend their food. read more

It was my first time ordering Chinese food from this place and it will be my last!! I ordered one order of Hot and Spicy Beef and dim sum. The first bite I had of my food I found a long black hair. I pulled it out of my dim sum with disgust as it was entangled in the meat part of the dim sum. The hot and spicy beef that I order had little pieces of meat and the whole bowl was basically just onions. After finding hair in the food I lost my appetite. Very fast, and good quality. I live 2 blocks away and by the time i ordered and walked to the store to pick up it was ready (10min~). Good quality, portion size, and prices for what you get. At other places i would order extra to make sure I'm full however here a simply $8.50 platter will fill you up plenty. Also the homemade tea is a must, for just $2.25 they give you about 35~ish oz. microwave safe cup full of good tea. My only gripe are the appetizers price, however they are normal for the area, still pricey i feel though. Why would i buy a $7.50 appetizer when a main course platter only cost $1 more? Again this is normal price wise in NY it seems so it is just my own personal feelings on that. With that said they give you an egg roll for free with all my orders and any good ol' egg roll style you want are less than $2 each so can't beat that. It's not gourmet but your not here for gourmet. Ok just because i got done with my go to places, east 21 and woodside kitchen I decided to give this place a try, called for pickup..paid for my order, the order taker went back for something, the phone rang and from the back area pops a cook to answer the phone WITH his hands wrist deep smudged with some minced meat he must've been kneading with his bare hands..finger nails half a inch long stuffed with the ground meat ( I dare you order a dumpling or anything that needs ground meat) Threw the food at the nearest trash bin. So can't comment on the taste, and i'm glad I can't. I better call the health department first thing in the morning. read more
