Haven't been here in 15 years probably and I went here on Sunday February 24 2019. When I got there the place was empty but they do a lot of carry out orders and later a few more people came to dine in. Be aware that this time of year the inside is kind of chilly so bring a sweater to wear or a jacket I knew to bring a sweater. The same waitress that was there 15 years ago was there this day and she's very nice and accommodating. The place is old fashioned looking but clean, they really need to do a more modern update on the place though. On the back of the menu they have a meal for one that cost 11.90 I think, you can pick two items like I picked Shrimp Egg Foo Young and Sweet and Sour Chicken then you get Rice and Soup and Egg roll with it. When it came out I was a bit embarrassed because it's a platter of food that you could clearly feed three people with easily! Two giant egg Foo Young patties, The food looked delicious and 15 years ago I came here often and felt the food was the best. Well, they must have new cook that acts as if he's a dialysis patient like me and is supposed to eat everything with NO salt or sodium because the food had zero flavor i mean none at all it's exactly the way a no salt or sodium diet tastes. However I didn't go there for that, I wanted flavor but there is none. The fried rice had no flavor at all the Wonton soup no flavor, the Egg Roll no flavor the Egg Foo Young no flavor. I was disappointed that the food didn't taste the same as I remembered from years ago. I would say if you are on a no salt diet this is your place and No, adding the soy sauce didn't work! More than likely I won't go back anytime soon. However, I'm sure there is some other dishes they have that may taste different and they are a long time restaurant that's been in the area forever almost. read more

I was in this part of town and my kiddo wanted me to get Chinese for dinner. It was on my way home and had good reviews on Google so I stopped in. We ordered a #6, #14, and two orders of pot stickers. I thought the pot stickers would be like they are everywhere else and they come in an order of 4... I thought for sure we would need both orders. I was so surprised when I opened the container and found they are HUGE and doughy and honestly SO delicious. Plus, my cashew nut chicken was to die for. They use bean sprout in it too which is the first time I've ran across, but it really set it off. Almost THREE YEARS to the day, I gave this place ONE LAST chance. Why!!?? I ordered The "Sesame Chicken" combination with white rice. My husband ordered the "Steak Kow" combination with fried rice. My husband really liked his dish, however he said that the steak was mushy, how is steak mushy?? I thought it tasted like they dumped a bunch of fish sauce in it and everything tasted like shrimp, it was disgusting. As you can tell by the photos of my Sesame "chicken", I mean breading with a little bit of chicken hidden inside, I was SEVERELY disappointed but not surprised. They should have listed this under desserts because they were like DONUTS that accidentally got some chicken in them! When I picked up a piece, the entire "BATTER SHELL" just peeled off!!! Yuck!!! You get a lot of food for the price. We usually get this as a carry out, but decided to dine in for a change. Our waitress Jackie was very friendly and attentive to our needs. My husband ordered the sweet and sour chicken but doesn't like the sauce and usually only gets it for me because I do like it. Well he didn't realize when you dine in, they put the sweet n sour sauce on top. Jackie insisted she take it back and have them make fresh one without sauce. Even though it was our mistake, they had no problem replacing it for him. I had the fried shrimp (#4), and I liked it very much. Came to Detroit area for the first time. Flight landed and wanted take out dinner back to the hotel nearby. Found New Hong Kong through Yelp and it's amazing reviews. Called in my order of general Tao's chicken, garlic sauce tofu, and crab Rangoon. Food was ready for pick up when I came (10 mins from phone call) and total came out to be $21. Charged my credit card and I rarely give tips on takeout (http://www.yelp.com/topic/seattle-do-you-tip-on-take-out), but I did with this one. Few days later, when I was checking my bank statement, I noticed that New Hong Kong had actually "changed"/charged my tip up to a $6 increase. I was pretty upset and called and spoke to the manager. He took my information down and said would call me back the next day, and he did. I was traveling at that time and could not return the call the same day. I tried again the next day, but I spoke to the female manager and she told me to call back the following day to speak to the male manager. I never got the issue resolved, but I think the manager was really trying. I let the extra charge slip by, but I find it a hassle and upsetting for businesses to make that "mistake" (this is the third time a business has done that to me, the other two in Miami, FL). Food wise...they definitely give you a lot for the price. But quality wise, it is not up to par. The general Tao's chicken was soaked and in a soup puddle of sauce. The crab Rangoon did not consist of the creamy cheese filling, but of a dry flaky cottage cheese- like instead. Two stars for "Meh, I've experienced better." read more

On Wednesday, August 12th I made an over the phone phone order while leaving work and heading home. As I was placing my order I asked the person on the phone if they make orange chicken. The employee replied "Yes." After he replied I asked how much did it cost? He gave me the cost, but then I asked if they had a special on the orange chicken. While I am asking that question the person on the phone immediately cut me off and aggressively repeats the dollar amount for the orange chicken. Now I am talking to this man in my car on my phone so I was assuming that he could not hear me clearly from the way that he had cut me off. So I began saying "hello ,hello can you hear me?" There was no response. So I said "hello, hello can you hear me?" again and the employee was like yeah I can hear you. So then I began to say "Okay sir did you hear what I said because I am pulling into the parking lot?" and then next thing I know phone disconnects. After I parked I go into the restaurant and I see a gentleman and I asked was he on the phone talking to someone about orange chicken? The guy says "yes." I say to him "that was me you were talking to. Did you did you hang up on me?" The guy goes " yes I hung up on you because you are too bossy!" I said "how am I bossy when I am asking you a simple question about orange chicken?" Then he says "you kept saying did you hear me, did you hear me. I don't like that! You are too bossy!" My response was "yes because I was asking if you heard what I said because you were not responding to my question that I was asking you." The man then says "get out! You can get out! I then told him that "I don't know what type of day you are having but the first time I came to this restaurant you were very nice and kind to me, but today you are being very rude and obnoxious to me and this is my second time coming into this restaurant!" I asked to speak to the owner and then asked if he was the owner and he said he was. I stated that I will not be coming back to this restaurant and I will be reporting this restaurant to the Better Business Bureau for bad customer service! The guy looked scared after I said that and I did not care. I asked him what his name was and he said "Chi." So with that being said I have already reported this company to the Better Business Bureau for bad customer service and to the news station as to how the owner treats customers. Chi keep a lookout for a phone call or a letter from the Better Business Bureau on your actions. You may never know that the news station may pop up and do an interview on how you have treated your customer. This place is the place for you if you love Americanized Chinese food with big portions and good taste. I'm vegan and this is one of my favorite places to go to get that "takeout Chinese" food. My favorite is the hot spiced General Tso's Tofu adding broccoli which they are always more than happy to do. Possibly with a couple spring rolls on the side! She had ABC crispy delicious batter Almond Boneless Chicken piled high on a bed of Chicken Fried Rice. This is the probably the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The chicken fried rice was mushy and bland, almost no chicken and no vegetables or anything as I would usually see. The first bite into my sweet and sour chicken caused me to spit it out. The piece of chicken was chewy, in the worst way, like eating the muscles or giblets of the chicken. And some pieces seemed undercooked. I thought maybe it was a random bad piece but i kept finding pieces I had to spit out. My boyfriend also had the same issues with his spicy chicken and rice. I took my Nephew and his girlfriend here for their birthday dinner and the rest of the family too. It was just Great!!! We loved it and we will be coming here from now on!!! The sweet and sour chicken was delicious. It came to the table hot and fresh and there was enough to take home a lot of leftovers for the next dinner or lunch!
