If I could give this restaurant zero stars I would. I placed an order on seamless, and realized two days later that there was a bug, about an inch long in our food. I called seamless to get their assistance for a refund but when they contacted the restaurant they would not approve a refund. It's disgusting to think that a) this establishment would not have the quality control to avoid this and b) that seamless would still allow this restaurant to utilize their platform and allow other users to order food from this place. I've filed a complaint with the health department on this, hopefully that helps them clean up their act in the future. read more

Some of the worst Chinese food I have ever ordered in NYC. Ordered through DoorDash and they gave my delivery guy the WRONG order. When I got a replacement order, they sent me my order but with items MISSING. As for the food, the wonton soup is awful, filled with filler vegetable parts and the "wontons" were soggy small dumplings. General Tso chicken was soggy and chewy. Fried rice? Stale and flavorless. Nice little take-out American Chinese food experience! Seen this place for many years but only recently bought from them and took out just 10 minutes before their closing time. Ordering was efficient, options were plentiful, price was pretty good/fair for the area and quantity of food given in each serving. We had two combo dishes (one with pepper steak and one with General tso's chicken) and everything was tasty! Fried rice wasn't oily, chicken wasn't just breading, and steak was quite flavorful and not drenched in sauce. Just as you wouldn't compare Chipotle to a Peruvian ceviche restaurant, you shouldn't compare New Moon to Cafe China. For what it is, New Moon is excellent. They're a Cantonese couple, so they're able to make the authentic dishes that I crave from time to time too! Decor & Ambiance: I think that they're still in the process of renovating the space - but the big banquet room in the back would be perfect for large parties, with a surprisingly modern look with white wood encasing the space and warm lights providing ample illumination. The front is still relatively spartan as they figure out what to do next, but the space is larger than the exterior would suggest. Overall, New Moon seems like a great place for your delivery needs if you're living or working in the area, but it's also a great choice for a sit down meal where you can try your usual Chinese-American staples, or ask a very knowledgeable and friendly couple about trying some more authentic Chinese cuisine. read more

Old fashioned neighborhood place busy with deliveries to midtown locals. Wonton soup contained tiny slices of barbecue pork and was best I've had. Flavors in the Generals Chicken and Beef with Scallions were traditional and satisfying. Beef and chicken seemed very high quality. BBQ spare ribs were sweet and properly burnt on top. I had the Hunan Chicken (lunch portion) and it might as well have been the dinner portion. It was huge. It came with a soup, I ordered wonton. Once again, great size cup with a generous amount of wontons. Their spring rolls are great too. Flavor is definitely there. Service is one of the best I've seen. They were super attentive, coming by to refill drinks often and just checking to make sure everything was okay. The dining area was very clean, and they immediately cleaned tables once guests left. First time we ordered when it first opened a bit too much salt. We miss Mee Noodle which moved to 48 or 49 on second. We have returned to NM to give another try and it is now v good. The lunch specials are v good ... generous portions and include soup. We usually add an egg for each person and some vegetables and have a meal out of that for dinner for next day. Cons: In the same space, and looks very similar to, previous Chinese restaurants with lousy reputations. Pros: Everything else. Prices, portions, ingredients, are significantly better quality than what you'd expect by it's appearance, or by it's predecessors. Friendly staff who I assume are also owners. I tend to be cynical of very new places with overwhelming positive reviews, but from what I can tell, although only based on one visit, most if not all of the 5-stars on this place are legit. The amount of food was good but the flavor was definitely more on the bland side. The hot and sour soup looked correct but it was pretty bland, it's as if they decided not to add any of the usual spices in. This was the worst food and the worst I have felt after eating food in years. I am a regular Chinese food eater (definitely a few times a month) and I have never ever gotten sick from food like this before. I know Chinese food sometimes can upset your stomach (oils and such) but I have never felt like this after a meal before. I am currently writing this review from a bed because I can not stand up due to the most intense stomach aches and cramps I have ever had. Avoid this place. New moon is just what I want it to be - delicious, quick, has all the standard options. If you order online it'll be ready before the time the online service tells you, I would order on my way home from work and it was usually ready by the time I got to restaurant 10 to 15 minutes later. The sesame chicken is good and I like that for the plates you can get fried rice as an option for your side.
