This place is NOT state of the art like they advertise. It is barbaric. And if you are here making sure your loved one is being taken care of, they get mad. Physical Therapy and OT is wonderful. Most of the LVN's are also very kind. It is not their fault they are overrun with patients and not enough staff. 45min to answer a call light is unfortunately very true. Do yourself a favor and never ever go to this place. The state needs to shut it down, and fast. Just look at the fines! All the administration cares about is filling a bed. My wife just went through her second I & D operation to try and clear up an infection this facility gave her! Who in their right mind would put an active MRSA infectious patient in with an orthopedic surgery patient? Well these greedy money grubbing bastards would and they did! Good morning; I will be careful on the words I use on my review. A few of my friends who have worked at New Orange Hills and other ones who "had" family members at this facility have shared with me the unprofessional care that this patients are receiving. Some of the staff, especially the ones that have been there for a long time and who protect and cover themselves to conserve their seniority and positions, are the ones providing the worse quality of care and they are responsible for the continuation of this "ongoing problem". Only the employees of this place know what I am really talking about. Not sure why this facility keep this type of individuals working there. It is extremely sad and terrifying to think that most of these patients who are not alert and oriented are the main target for these cruel people and the ones who could be suffering of the lack of care and respect that they deserve. Now ask yourself after reading my review "Would you want your love one to be in a place like this?" My advice is; do your homework, research and read other peoples reviews. The facility its self is not bad, trust me, there are plenty that are unkept and the smells alone will kill you. I can say the accommodations are a bit antiquated. My mother was here for 5 days and sent back to Hoag's ER because they couldn't get her stable. I not once saw 1 of the doctors working on her or discussing her status/chart with me. My other is a tricky patient be cause she's so sensitive to meds and deathly allergic to most pain meds. And she started passing out each time you pick her up to do PT or just to sit up. Red Flag! there's a problem. One would assume, they'd be puzzled and try to contact who ever is in charge of the magical "orders". My mom had a knee replacement surgery at Hoag Irvine (Ortho/Cardiac facility) which turned out great, but developed blood clots and had pulmonary embolisms; The staff, both medical and administrative was AWESOME rushing her down for scans and test and starting he blood thinning meds right; they though she may have had a heart attack so they scheduled her for an angiogram. This entire process just knock her down. Slowed the PT, the focus now is cardiac. A few days later, they got her up and moving and then it was time to be transferred to New Orange Hills Rehabilitation Center on Chapman. And she went down from there. It is not necessarily their fault her health turned for the worse, this may have happen anywhere. All the medical and nursing staff did was "follow the orders" provided. We'll I am not a physician, but if the "orders" don't seem to be working and you have a patient who's condition is worsening, I would think the team would re-group to see what is dragging this patient down and start over.my mom was in and out of a haze and jumping reaching for things that are not in front of her, this would be the result of the pain meds - which can also affect one's blood pressure, but they were still given because of "orders". They continued the blood thiners as "ordered" but NEVER questioned a bruise on my moms hip that was slowly growing down her groin, leg and buttocks... HUGE!!! When I asked someone a question, they would disappear somewhere in a black hole. No one had an meeting with anyone in my family to discuss how things worked. I have NO IDEA WHO JANE ABDELHADI, MD is nor do I EVER WANT TO MEET THIS WOMAN OR HER PA again. The staff is reading lab reports from when she was admitted. Well of course the hemoglobin levels where high at that time, she had just had a blood transfusion after the angiogram. so what was the purpose (other than protocol and to bill the insurance) of drawing blood from my mom daily if you didn't even have updated reports?! So i stopped by this place at all hours, even at 930pm on a Friday night, which the front door was un locked and no one at the front desk. My mom, barley coherent because she's so full of meds she's reacting to whispered to me " please... get me out of here..." Saturday, asked for he discharge person.. she's with a pt.; told them I wan to move her immediately . somehow this discharge person slipped out, not even the mentioned of oh, can we meet tomorrow or Monday morning... just left. So now I had to leave my mother there for 2 more days because she was too unstable for me to just take her out myself - which I sure would have!! So I am told, everyone is in about 9:30 on Monday...about 11 by the grace of God a tall man (angel) appeared at the door w/a nurse I had never seen. I took advantage to go to them and ask how long do I have go wait to have my mother removed from this place IMMEDIATELY. took them by surprise but people started jumping. Social Svs showed up. The RN whom I NEVER say was friendly and moving. PT management came. After all this and my mother's own doctor from Long Beach calling, The PA -she didn't show up until after all the calamity and she share the miraculous idea that they are unable to care for her and she needs to go back to Hoag. No Shit... really? I knew this Friday!! My mother ended up at Hoag NPB ER. hemoglobin at 5.2 - norm is 9-10. she had another blood transfusion after given plasma. They had to stop the blood thinners, her blood was too thin. My mother was bleeding internally from the angiogram area hence the ENTIRE hip area being black and blue. And if left in the hands of New Orange Hills Rehabilitaion, Dr. Jane Abdelhadi Lord only knows where my mother would be right now and if not dead, what condition. The most disheartening thing is this happens in most if not all SNF. They are understaffed,prob under paid&trained. Their most important employees are those who are hands on with our family members. Those that we are trusting their care to and proper rehabilitation. These employees (Nurses, CNA's, food service) seem to walk around and do their job begrudgingly and project this onto our loved ones. These employees are the determining factor of quality/continuation of care and make the name for the Facility. Its a numbers game...all about the $$ read more

My experience here was great! At first it was difficult because I could barely move or do anything myself (coming out of Kaiser after being hospitalized for about 3 months). But the CNA's were very nice and the physical therapists there were great. Gabby was amazing and thankfully I am able to walk again. I'm 21 now and although the nursing home is for older patients the staff really helped me feel accommodated. Someone can stay overnight with the patient and everything is always on schedule there. My Mom was there for a month after a fall. The therapists there are awesome. Kudos to Vince and John who treated my mom so kind and sweet---and they did a great job getting her back on her feet. Irma, at the front desk was always helpful. The day nurse in her section was really good, and was always there to answer my questions. Araceli and Lisette (social workers) were also awesome===always available to help out. The downfall and reason for 3 overall stars is the night staff. (not all of them) The head nurse was not on top of things when I had questions---the staff wasn't friendly---and my mom didn't get her evening meds on time (ever!!) The bathrooms could be cleaner. But overall, it was a decent experience. read more

My son was there about a month ago for 2 days and then had to be rushed back to the hospital. During his stay, several nurses watched him fall and did nothing to stop it. They were inattentive when he pressed the call button and were annoyed when they finally came to his room (he had been told after he fell that he needed to call them if he had to get out of bed to use the restroom). This place is horrific and if you care at all about your loved one do not send them here. Most of the CNA staff and LVN staff are relatively new the medical field, which would have been okay if they actually knew what they were doing. My loved one was here for only 3 days before we demanded him be to be taken to the ER. They mismanaged his meds, his wound care, his rehab. We are lucky he did not die while in their care. That is the truth. I know skilled nursing facilities have less nurses to patient ratio. However, they lack medical knowledge and basic common sense. At New Orange Hills there is no sense of urgency for anything or anyone. The healing process, their care plan is non-existent. They have insomniacs patients who roam the halls at night and I watched them walk in and out of other patients rooms. The whole place smells like cigarettes. But honestly that's just a rant, the truth this is they couldn't care for my loved one and they caused him a serious infection. We still don't know what the outcome will be of him and they will be facing a malpractice suit. Instead of trying to be compassionate and attempt to fix the problems they created, the nurse gave my family attitude. It was completely unprofessional. My loved ones diabetes was not managed and the glucose test for far and few between. We're still unsure at this point if he ever received insulin when we were told that he would? The day he went back to the ER his glucose was over 400. Prior to this, his glucose was never over 200 which leads us to believe they never gave him insulin when needed. He had had surgery on his abdomen prior to being admitted to New Orange Hills. It was New Orange Hills job to change and clean the surgical site. This wasnt properly done at New Orange Hills skilled Nursing Facility. The surgical site was leaking thus causing infection and problems . He was originally there to go through their rehab, gain muscle strength and come home. Now he is back in the hospital. It's sad when the EMTs from the ambulance tell you that you are lucky to get him out of there and that a lot of people who come here end up leaving in a ambulancr and sent to the hospital instead of arriving from one. I'm glad I was there daily because this place that cannot be trusted. Honestly it should be burned to the ground. People would be better off. There wasnt anything good. Nothing good can come of this place. They are unprofessional, lack medical knowledge, lack procedures; like how to perform changing out a bandage, take a glucose test, bath, turn, help sit up a patient, provide medicine in a timely manner if at all. I had to write in a big black marker to only take his blood pressure on his left arm since his right had a PICC line. Why would this not be in his chart? It would have been detrimental to his health if they had taken his blood pressure on the right side. Things were charted wrong. The facilities processes and procedure are completely unorganized. The nursing staff lacked communication. When changing shifts from one nurse to the next they did not know what was going with their patients. No one spoke to each other about anything. No one seemed to chart anything correctly. There wasnt any record of anything going on, it was a big circus. Or should I say a nightmare. No one was able to provide information at any given time of about his medicine, how much or what he had or hadn't received. This is just the beginning. We will be filing complaints with the state the health department, the CDPH, the HFCIS and whoever else I need to file a complaint with. Again this place needs to be closed down and burned to the ground. Most of the people who work there do not have any business in the medical industry on any level including the person who gives you a tour of the place because it's all lies. read more

This review is on behalf of my mother, who spent a couple of weeks at New Orange Hills. While I thought the rehab portion of her care was quite good, this review has to do with the care she received in her room. Caregivers who came in and out throughout the day seemed very callous and uncompassionate...just interested in getting a job done without concern for the patient. One experience is burnt into my memory, of a 30-something woman who came into Mom's room to perform a portable chest x-ray, since Mom wasn't very mobile. Without warning in advance this woman literally shoved the x-ray plate down Mom's back, eliciting a cry from my mother. The woman then said, "Oh, that wasn't so bad." Once she left I looked at Mom's back, and because her skin was so fragile a lot of it had been torn off by the plate through this woman's roughness. I voiced a complaint at the time, but think it's something to be shared with others as well who might be considering this rehab center for their loved one. Keep looking. read more

My husband was transferred to this facility from kaiser anaheim. He had a back injury and was unable to come home yet because he could not walk great yet and also because he was on very high doses of medication which were being given to him IV . He missed a dose of his medication that first night there, they told us that the pharmacy was at fault, meanwhile my husband was in excruciating pain. One of the main reasons he was there instead of home! The bathroom was rotted on the floor around the base boards and along the base of the shower. It was black with pieces missing and pieces hanging off from the black rot. I helped my husband have a shower and the shower stall had a thick layer of dust and cob webs on the shower. The shower had no curtain or door, and they had a "soiled" laundry hamper in there also full of clothes and blankets. Before I helped my husband with his shower, I asked for towels and they gave me one. I asked for more because there was no curtain on the shower and the floor would have to be wiped up afterward. When I asked they looked at me as if I had asked them for their wallet!!! Each very small room has either two or three beds and two rooms share a joined one bathroom. The toilet over flowed twice during the four days my husband was there. Two of the days that I first arrived my husband was laying on the bed with no sheet or blankets, I asked him why and he said they came and took the ones he had and never brought more. I went to the nurse station where three nurses were chatting away and told them my husband had no sheets or blanket. One nurse rolled her eyes at me and as I walked away they laughed. I asked other nurses for sheet and blanket about every hour and they always said the same. I will bring one to you. Four hours later when my husband and I came back to the room, there was a sheet and blanket folded up and sitting on the bed. They didn't even make the bed for him. They NEVER once refilled his water pitcher and he would ask throughout the day, I had to make sure to do it when I got there and before I left. There was a woman who would scream for someone to help her and when I went out to get a nurse, they were once again standing around having a good old conversation. When I told them the lady had been screaming for a while, they told me they would be right there and the lady kept screaming. My husband said she screams all night and they gave him ear plugs, I guess that's easier than doing their dam jobs! There was a woman roaming the hallway in a wheelchair with a big bandage wrap hanging off her arm, blood was everywhere and she was scratching at the wound and then rolling around touching everything, doors, walls, etc. disgusting and completely unsupervised. When the dr came to see my husband and changed the medications he was taking, my husband once again missed doses of medication, but this time two doses because for 8 hours , the nurse was telling us the pharmacy was not sending the medication to them. When I was getting pissed at the nurse she told me that the nurse that was on shift when the dr made the order change never put the orders through to the pharmacy. Ugh! The place is a dump! You'll see a lot of nurses in little huddles talking and carrying on and a whole lot of patients being unsupervised and screaming for help. The day that my husband was able to get out of that hell hole, as we were gathering up his things, a nurse came in to give the man in the bed next to my husband, a plastic container of pills to take but no water! Then while she was giving him those pills she was stepping all over his catheter bag, which was laying flat on the floor!!!!! I've been in healthcare many, many years. I would not recommend this place if you cannot speak for yourself or are severely disabled. If you're capable of communicating to staff and getting around it might be somewhat ok for physical therapy issues only. The respiratory therapists are understaffed, negligent and disgruntled. The CNAs except for one are horribly incompetent to the point of being dangerous to a patient's safety & well-being and severely understaffed. They do not follow basic treatment protocol and over medicated our patient, badly! On infection control issues they score an F+, and that's being generous. They would not pass any health inspection right now. It takes anywhere from 45 min - 2 hours to get someone to a room even if the patient's issue is critical/life threatening with alarms going off. They ignore alarms completely! This is a very dangerous facility for the elderly or critically ill. The doctors are non existent, our family never saw them and on urgent calls to page them it took over 7-24 hours for a call backs. For HIPAA reasons I will not go into details, just know, this is a VERY DANGEROUS FACILITY. read more

I would like to give this place more stars due to the nurse that we had, Nikki, but if you have to leave your loved one overnight, get ready. they are slow to react to call buttons for anything and my mom is not one to push the call button. The first night there, her roommate had the TV blasting all night long and no one came when she pushed the call button. We told the administrator & that was fixed. Next night, two men were yelling across the hall at one another & my mom could hear one of the staff in the hall and nothing was done. told the administrator and the next night that was fixed. However, my mom had a rough couple of days and when she pressed her call button, no one came. she had been throwing up all day and needed some help. So, she called me. I called the place and they transferred me back to nurses station #2 and I let the phone ring as I drove from Yorba Linda to Orange and no answer! I get there and advise the nurse on duty to call an ambulance as we were taking her out of there & back to Kaiser. I put most of the blame on the Kaiser doctor who was treating my mom at this place as my mom ends up with pneumonia & a very bad bacteria infection that is apparently common in skilled nursing facilities. If you have to leave your loved one there at night, good luck. My mom will never go back to this place. read more

My father suffered a hemorraghic stroke due to his diabetes and high blood pressure being out of control. He has been at this facility for 5 days the first two days at the facility he was found on the floor by a nurse. His brain has not recovered to the fullest and he believes that he can get out of bed. He is paralized on his right side.My experience from this facility has been a bad one. Day after day I count the minutes that it takes a nurse to answer a patient call light. It could range from 5 minutes up to the point of frustation that one has to get out of the room to find a nurse. They all seem to point the finger and the responsibilities on other people. The typical answer is wait, let me find your nurse! The only positive thing about this place is the therapy. They are compasionate with my father and truly care. As for everyone else this is just a JOB for them. Do not bring your sick loved one here unless you want to be dissapointed. read more
