My only regret is that I had not tried this place till now. They have been here for over I think 20 years . I never thought to give them a try until I was looking for a place that had fish cake. I had fish cake. Years ago amd loved it after eating at O mart. Wanting to find a place closer to my home in Heights and saw this restaurant. I happened to go on a day that the owners son wasn't able to be at work so tbe person filling in was doing the best he could. They were busy and they did a great job!!! They food was amazing!! And the side dishes included were really good!!!! I had the bipimbap with egg in the hot stone bowl. It was truly amazing!! The soup is my favorite I have tried the yukejang among some other dishes like the fried rice. The lady that owns the restaurant is one woman in the kitchen pumps out all the dishes and makes the side dishes. The person at the register can be a bit short or not approachable when I call to order or visit in person. I wish we had someone else who was easier to talk to to order the food from. New Oriental Restaurant is a little Korean restaurant in Harker Heights located near the intersection of E Veteran's Memorial and N Ann Blvd. The decor is minimal. Korean language news was playing on the two TVs. The first thing I noticed was a table of four older Korean women just finishing up their meal. This is always a good sign! I was quickly greeted by the chef's son, Kelvin, who presented a menu and asked if I had any questions. I ordered Combo Omarice and ice water. My food was brought to me steaming hot and fresh after maybe 10 minutes. A fork and chopsticks were also presented. My Omarice had plenty of peas, carrots, and onions with lots of shrimp, beef, and chicken. Kelvin also brought six kinds of bonchon; potato, kimchi, cucumber, sprouts, pickled radish, and spinach. I finished the potato bonchon pretty quickly and Kelvin brought me a refill. The Omarice portion was huge! I couldn't finish it all, so Kelvin offered me a to-go box. I wouldn't have even known about this place if I hadn't searched Yelp for Korean food in Harker Heights. I'd love to bring my wife here. She would enjoy the combo fried rice! read more

This Korean restaurant was a truly wonderful discovery! We were so impressed by their ability to prepare all our dishes vegetarian. OR Walk in find a clean table and sit down when they see you they will bring you a menu. Both are acceptable was to order but the later may take a little longer if they are busy. Tip well, mind your manners (this is a classy albeit super casual place). Don't let the old, well used building scare you off, they keep it clean and the food is beyond delicious. They make the best bulgogi I have ever had and y'all I have had a lot. Their fried rice is insanely good and their sides were fresh and tasty. Today was my first time trying this restaurant. Upon arrival I noticed that there are gunshots in the glass door, and I should've known right there what I was walking into. When I walked in, there were no more than 6 people in the building including the 3 workers. I went up to the front desk and was directed to look through the menu (which is mainly written in a different language with English annotations). I was lost so I asked the TALL MAN WITH THE BEARD to help me better navigate the menu, and see what he recommended. he walked over to me and said "what do you need help for, most people just search up the food and see what looks good." He had a lazy, pushy attitude about him. After a few seconds of silence he said "it's hard for me to help "YOU GUYS," you don't look like you'll like anything here." I am a black man. I would hate to say that he's racist just in case I misunderstood something. I am the very last person to accuse someone of being racist, but even the elder black lady behind me laughed expressly when she heard him say that. A complete hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere. The most unexpected location for THE BEST Korean restaurant in Texas I've tried. The place is run by chef-owner-mom and server-cashier-son. How the two manage to serve everyone in timely fashion is remarkable. But when you factor in the quality and taste of the food, it's just impossible how they do it. Banchan spread is the best--so many variety and each probably take so much time and effort to make. Every entrée item I've tried is so delicious, but their soups will renew your soul. You have to make sure you check your food here. I recently got an order, told that I did not want any vegetables in my chicken bulgogi and when I came to pick up my order got to the house it had so many vegetables in the rice and the bulgogi that when I pick it it out the chicken was only a half of portion. The first time I went everything was good but the second time, I felt like I was wronged and with it being at the price that they charge they should weigh out the portions so it would fit the bill. The food is awesome! For a first time Korean food sampler, this really hit the spot! I had the beef bulgogi which was tender and flavorful, and we also had their Yaki Mandu and spicy squid fried rice which did not disappoint! I especially loved the Kimchi setup that came with the meal that really took my tastebuds on a journey: kimchi, cucumber salad, pickled daikon (I think), spinach salad, bean sprout salad and more! Service was delightful and fast. The little lady in the kitchen made our meals to order and it was so quick! I think it was her son or grandson working the counter with her and he was very professional and friendly. Atmosphere leaves something to the imagination. This place is nothing special to look at, but DO NOT let that deter you from stepping inside. The visual of the building has no effect on the delicious food you will receive! Hidden Korean gem in Killeen! This hole in the wall, mom and pop shop serves up some delicious Korean food! Lots of spicy stir fry options and soup options, banchan side dishes are traditional and extremely tasty. Osam Bulgogi is one of my favorites from here (a spicy porkbelly and squid stir fry), along with the "cow head soup". Tteokbokki was mediocre, would not order again. I dined-in for the first time with a Korean family member early afternoon. Apparently, this restaurant is the oldest in town, and very popular. I had eaten their takeout before a few times, never having been before. Their food was really good, so I was excited to come. I had the closest Korean experience right here than I have had outside of The county. (I have lived there before.). Be prepared to share a table with strangers. First of all, I agree with another review that the facade is not one to write home about. The place was really busy, despite how rundown and disorderly it is. I was surprised at how quiet it was even with the two TV's running. The restaurant has darkened windows. About this time of day it is very bright outside, so be sure to prepare for some sun when you leave. Safety is a big issue for me, and the restroom area was dark, the door lock was tricky, and the women's toilet seat is not secure. It looks like the room hadn't been cleaned in a week, and the hand dryer didn't work. They had plenty of napkins on the table to dry though. It smells like flowers, and I liked the soap. Onto the food ... Help yourself to the menu on the counter. It is in a small binder. It hasn't been cleaned, so just remember to wash your hands. The sweet waitress brought the cold barley tea, but I got the straws from the counter. It's a laid back restaurant. After a long wait, the food arrived and it was extremely tasty, however, I'm not sure if the quantity is worth the price. My Dolsot Bibimbop was very small and served in a cracked pot. I loved the crunchy rice at the bottom! The pun chun was good, but they choose which ones to give to you. As you can see from my photo I had to ask for the white one. The food went right through me within 15 minutes of leaving. If I was desiring Korean food close-by, I would order takeout from here. I would come back. Enjoy! read more

I go there all the time because the food is great, but the customer service is horrible. The son is always mad and trys to tell you what you can get. It could be a group of y'all and he's going to tell you that y'all all had to share the sides and if I'm paying for my own portion, I should be able to get what I want and then for him to tell me because me and my daughter came in at separate times and ordered food That we did this on purpose to get our own sides regardless if we did it on purpose or not it shouldn't matter like your customer service is poor, even if he thought that he should've kept it to himself but regardless, if we did or not we paid for it ourselves and so - just sad because I really enjoyed that place and the son is really running people off all because he's mad because he has to stay and help his mom and he's always talking shit I literally had to pack my food up and go home and eat it because of the rudeness read more

I've been eating at this establishment for years. The food is good but the restaurant could use an update. It's an old building, one of those little hole in the wall type places. I like the selection of food and and my family usually gets an assortment of dishes to share. You get about 7 or 8 small dishes with various veggies pickled, spicy or sautéed in their traditional way. The spicy pork main dish I had was very tasty and tender and one of my favorites. The Kimchi soup was also delicious with nice soft tofu in a medium spicy broth. You can also request the level of spiciness you desire. I did take out this time on a cold rainy day so I could enjoy from the comfort of my home. Price is about $10.00 to 16:00 a plate. $$ Friendliness of employees leave a bit to be desired but when you have the only Korean restaurant in town you can have an attitude. My brother came in the last month and gave the waitress a $17.00 dollar tip and paid the $62.00 bill with 4 $20.'s which she also kept the change for a tip without asking or offering the change back. Didn't think anything of it. Went back today for an order the daughter was rude and told me that she texted me and i needed to pay for an order her mom didnt take out. It wasnt my fault but i paid for it anyways. She needs to fix the attitude because its very unprofessional and i could have just walked out and said screw the order and get food elsewhere. Since reviewing the restaurant I've been harassed and even insulted by the daughter who works there via Facebook. Very disrespectful and unprofessional. Best Korean restaurant I've found in Killeen. Extensive menu, side dishes. Friendly service, competitive prices. Prepare to wait 25+ minutes before you're served, it's well worth the wait. Like most Korean restaurants, the more hole-in-the-wall they look, probably the more delicious they'll be. My mom is an amazing cook but this is where SHE likes to eat when she wants Korean food and doesn't feel like making the magic herself. So when I came for a visit she was excited to go here. Prices were fair, food was DELICIOUS and the staff was friendly, even though the place was packed. Plenty of banchan and fresh, fluffy, perfect rice accompanied our dubu chigae, doganitang, samgyeopsal bokkeum, and godeungeo gui which were all perfectly flavored and cooked. This restaurant wasn't that bad. The food was ok... not too shabby. The only thing I really didn't like is how the lady added her tip. She just brought out our food. So we gave her a small tip and then when she has my boyfriend distracted she added more on for a tip. That's not okay. She must have needed it, and it wasn't that big a deal so we didn't make a fuss. Several times we've gone in and been seated only to be told there was more than an hour wait time to get the food. Another table with more people but who were Asian were told 15 minutes wait for their food. So we stopped going in and just ordered take out. Today I tried to place to go order and was told they weren't taking any orders, that they were too busy. When I told them they just lost $60, her response was her mother was the only cook, she couldn't handle the orders because she had arthritis. SERIOUSLY???!!!! Although the food is great, I'm looking for a new Korean restaurant. I bet if my voice was Asian, I would have been served.
