Love this little taste of Germany!!! Being born there and living three years there I missed German cooking and went to try it. It's a small former house that now is Opa's. Everything from their bratwurst to their schnitzels are so delicious!!! Love their salads from the red cabbage to the cucumber salad. And those German potato salad is great too. First authentic German meal in years. Finally decided to hit Opas and were not disappointed. Service was great! The place is very small but it has some outdoor seating. It would've been great to sit outside on a nicer day. The food was great! We shared a bratwurst for an appetizer and had cucumber salad. Both were good but I only ate part of my salad in order to save room for the main event which was Jägerschnitzel and fried potatoes. They both took us back to our days in Germany. Very welcoming atmosphere, from the time we walked in until we finished our meal and left. Probably the most authentic German food we've had in the US, we lived in Franconia Bavaria for four years in the 80s. Complimentary bread (also authentic) served when we sat down, and we could hear the schnitzel being pounded out in the kitchen when we ordered. Everything came out in an appropriate time, and our server was very friendly and checked up on us all the time. Darling German restaurant. It is small and cute. If the indoor seating is taken there's outside seating available. We are repeat customers and it never disappoints. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The food is authentic. You can hear the ladies pounding the schnitzel in the kitchen. Free bread basket. Every side is a must try. Highly recommend the Jaegerschnitzel, cucumber salad, and potato salad. Portions are large. Try the Apfelsaft beverage which is like a carbonated apple juice. LOL, the inside, and porch seating filled shortly after we arrived... it's a testimate to good meals coming. There's plenty of seating outside, which looked well maintained, to include limited seating on the porch. The staff was fabulous, caring and professional. She catered our Christmas Party of 50, I think we had a committee that picked it up, served it warm, we had a choice of schnitzel or Broadsworth we had four different sides, bread and three different dessert cakes to choose from, the party went off with out any problems and the meal was delicious and serving size was very generous, more than most of us could eat, I recommend that everyone try this nice restaurant. read more

We were looking for Bavarian food, and this restaurant popped up in our search. It's a tiny eatery with a quaint and quirky aesthetic. The service was lovely and attentive. There's a charming origin story on the menu as well. My husband and I picked schnitzel, but he went with the potatoes while I went with the Spätzle because I couldn't remember what it was (and there wasn't a description, nor did I ask.) I did wish I had picked the potatoes in the end. Both plates came with warm red cabbage. We also ordered a side of potato salad and a bratwurst. Both of those were enjoyable. The cheesecake was alright, though more cake-like than creamy. My favorite part of the meal was the Mandarin Cream cake. Everything was affordable, but we were disappointed there was no beer selection. For us, trying Bavarian beers is part of the experience. I'm sure there's a reason they've chosen not to serve alcohol here, and we respect that. It was missed, though. I can't say we won't eat here again, but we were looking for more options. read more

Okay I can't stop thinking about this place. I was up in the Harker Heights area and was looking up food options when I came across this quaint little restaurant. Saw great reviews and said hey why not. I went on a Saturday and it doesn't open until 4pm. I got there around 5pm and the parking lot was almost full. Inside, it's actually pretty small but they do have outside seating which is what we did. We got the Wiener schnitzel and zigeuner schnitzel. Each schnitzel come with 2 sizes so we got sauerkraut, home fries, spatzle, and potato salad. Everything with delicious! The Wiener schnitzel doesn't come with any gravy but we got some on the side to try. Highly recommend. The zigeuner schnitzel has sauce with bell peppers and omg I'm still thinking about this. Sooo yummy! All the sides were so good. It was my first time trying spatzle and I loved it! The potato salad was probably one of the best potato salads I've ever had. It has a bit of sauerkraut mixed in it as well which I think gives it the extra delicious flavor. Next time I'm going to try out the red cabbage. The meal also comes with free bread in the beginning. I tried out their spetzi drink as well which was fanta mixed with cola. Definitely give it a try if you've never tried it before. Overall, I loved everything about this place. I will be having the Jägerschnitzel today as my entre. Opa and her staff take the pork and beat it senseless until all the fibers are ripped and it's real tender. This sort of food preparation makes all the difference. I spent (3) years in Weisbaden Germany in the 1980's. Therefore, my "expert" food eating opinion is based on good science and experience. We've been coming here for years. Their menu is limited, and this is a good thing...it means they take the time to do everything right. Guaranteed you won't find anyone doing schnitzel as perfect as Opa's...and all in a kitchen without commercial appliances and smaller than your average home. Service has always been very attentive and . This place used to be packed inside, especially during a military payday weekend. It's still very busy, but 95% are phone in and to go orders. I hope people go back to dining in again. A big part of the charm here was feeling like you were at a large family gathering at someone's home. Cute little restaurant with amazing food. Went here with my brothers family and they had a nice kids menu or small bites menu for my nephew to order from and we enjoyed the full sized meals. The sauerkraut was just like my mama makes it and the schnitzel was perfectly made. The home fries were made in bacon fat just like my mama makes it too. Reminded me of being home for sure. The server, Amanda, was so kind and helpful and made us all feel welcomed. Definitely is a place my brother is going to take all of his visiting friends and family to. This food took me back to my early childhood in Germany. We tried the schnitzel and the cordon blue and it was so delicious. The traditional German sides of Spatz, German fries, red cabbage, and potato salad were also amazing. And of course we had the cheese cake and mandarin tart both of which were good but the mandarin tart was my favorite. All this accompanied but the German decor and friendly staff just knocks this place out of the park. One of the ladies that cooks came out and chatted with us for a minute and her German accent and sweet demeanor just brought back so many memories.
