My family has been coming here for ages - it's a staple whenever we want some quick Chinese food. The quality is pretty fair and consistent, though the prices have rose over time (what places haven't been raising their prices though). We normally order a variety of different dishes and they are all pretty solid. The food is always hot and is actually prepared very quickly. This weekend we got: Moo Goo Gai Pan - This is always a solid and consistent choice. The chicken is nice and tender and the sauce is mild and subtle. It's got a good amount of vegetables and feels healthy (though I'm not so sure it is). The mushrooms are a nice touch, and this dish has a nice combination of different textures with the soft chicken and crisp veggies. Hot and sour soup - We've gotten this a few times and the consistency varies - sometimes it is very thick, but this time it was just right. The perfect amount of saltiness and sourness from the vinegar, and piping hot as normal. Lunch special - shrimp with lobster sauce, fried rice, crab rangoon - This was the first time we tried the lunch special and it was surprising that they offer it on the weekends. It's a pretty good deal if you want to try a few things as a single person, but it also rounded out our order with an appetizer, some rice, and a smaller portion of lobster sauce than a full order since only a few people wanted to try it. The lobster sauce was dark and flavorful and it came with 4 shrimp inside. The fried rice was decent, though not as dark and salty as I normally like, and the crab rangoon was solid - a good ratio of wonton wrapper to cream cheese filling. This is a good amount of food for the price, and it's great that it's not only available on weekdays. Yu Hsiang Beef - I think this was the first time we tried this as well and it was surprisingly very good. We've tried a lot of the menu by now so it's always nice when we order something new and it turns out to be good. It had a spice symbol next to it but it didn't taste too spicy to me. Instead, it was a nice blend of sweet and salty, and the beef was extremely tender. The mixture of ingredients was good too - there was a good amount of meat in this dish. Singapore Noodle - We practically always get this dish and it's always a hit with the family - it's got shrimp, pork, chicken, and egg inside, and the onions are not cooked too much, giving it a nice crunch. The curry flavor is prominent but not too overpowering, and it's always nice to have a noodle dish in the mix when ordering for a group. All in all, I give this a 4/5. It's nothing above and beyond, but it's a very good and reliable spot for Chinese food out in the suburbs! read more

Impression #1 was the place has a huge gambling vibe as the bar was packed with customers watching the Keno numbers flash on the screen and the table next to us had four customers whose eyes were glued to the Keno screen. All night long they offered play by play commentary on the numbers and payouts and prior experiences. Impression #2 is that New Rose is the OG kind of Chinese Restaurant my family visited at the old Jade Garden, nestled under the elevated tracks of the Jerome Avenue D Train of my Bronx childhood. Our PuPu Platter for two reminded me of those days - a huge heaping fried platter of golden fried wings, chicken fingers, egg rolls, breaded shrimp, boneless ribs, beef and chicken teriyaki skewers, and those boring Crab Rangoons. At $22.95 it was a fantastic value because we ate half of it there, and had half tonight. So the PuPu for two is really a Pupu for four, and if you don't mind all that oil fried goodness you'll get four servings at less than $7 a pop. We also had two cups of their $3.50 small soups -Won Ton for my wife and the usual Hot and Sour for me. The H&S broth was a little thinner and less flavorful than some, but better than some as well. It was meatless, but the quality of the mushrooms and ribbons of soft tofu more than made up for it. It was quite good. Our server Ann was terrific, very helpful with a great personality. New Rose Garden has a pretty big menu with Curries, Japanese appetizers, plus sushi and sashimi. So if you're not a fan of deep fried foods, you have a ton of choices here. read more

Up until about three months ago or so the food here was actually reasonably good. Then I suppose they changed the kitchen and the food is basically inedible at this point. I can only say that the last time I was there the hot and sour soup with some thin broth which it shouldn't be and kind of tasteless. And last night, I was literally explosively ill two minutes after eating And have been in the state for the last 18 hours. Cozy, neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Food and quality are quite good. But, and not sure if it's only a Massachusetts thing, white rice is always extra. Tried one of the lunch specials for take out. The online ordering system is easy and convenient, and the price is certainly very reasonable. The food was unspectacular - somehow it felt bland, despite the wide variety of vegetables and ample amount of sauce. We were a party of 6 and decided to take out from the nearest Chinese place with decent reviews. Another day of disappointment at a Chinese place. Tried scallion pan cakes(bland and oily) Dried chicken with chillis(not flavorful and not spicy) Wings(dried out) Egg rolls(only passable food) And hot &sour soup, pan fried noodles, fried rice are bad. I have to give this place 1 star. First, the beef teriyaki was not made well done, as I had asked for it. Second, but more importantly, they are not accommodating to people who have dietary restrictions or concerns. I had ordered a dish steamed with the sauce on the side, and was told that the sauce on the side would cost $3 extra because "the chef would have to cook twice". That seems a little ridiculous to me, and very unaccommodating. I decided to order the dish with the sauce on it, and it tasted a little "off". I have been coming here for many years. Overall I give this restaurant four stars because the food is good, the prices are very reasonable and the service is very friendly. We are rarely disappointed in the food quality. Traditional American Chinese fare, nothing fancy here, but always tasty. My personal favorites here include: General Gaos Chicken, the Pork Fried Rice, Sesame Chicken, and the Egg Rolls. The restaurant is clean and never crowded. They apparently do a big take out and bar business here. Brian, the resident waiter, is terriffic. He ALWAYS remembers what each of us had to drink last time we were at the restaurant. Decent buffet. This is a tiny out of the way restaurant so it tends to be slow. The food is good and is usually fresh. They know it doesn't get busy so they keep small portions at the buffet because of this the food stays fresh. The waiter is always nice and remembers me. If you are close by, give it a try for lunch. read more

Open mike review: The Rose Room Revue is held on Thursday's at 7:30pm in the upstairs of the Rose Garden. Matt Lindy is the host. He's very friendly and supportive and the room is 'cozy'. It's not really a performance space, but a dining room being borrowed. It works well enough. Folkies. There is a feature act that plays at 9pm, and a pass-the-hat style cover. Over-all it's a good open mike, with acts getting 15-20 minutes each. The night's I've been were not too crowded, but it may be getting tighter (it's been a while). Recently renovated, and from what I understand new partner owner, I have eaten here before and thought the food was ok, however I'm not sure if they have new kitchen staff or what, but the food is definitely better, they also now have a sushi bar. Been to Rose Garden many times over the years but an ad in the local paper advertising a "New Rose Garden" caught my eye. The addition of Japanese was also interesting. So on this Christmas evening we were happy to let someone else do the cooking and we headed to the Garden. Very impressed that they've redone everything including the sign on the street out front. Gyoza and edamame were very good as were the rest of the dishes. We opted for Chinese for the main courses. Again, well done. More research required! read more

Ordered takeout. Restaurant packaged raw sushi in the same plastic bag as hot food. Sushi arrived warm and cream cheese melted. Felt this is a potential issue with raw fish, called restaurant and was told they do sushi rice within health code. They were very rude and offered no solution or even apology. I've never gotten warm raw sushi before this, and instantly threw it away. No thanks for the salmonella poisoning. Other food was either majorly bland, tasted old or was ridiculously spicy. New favorite take out place. I have never been to this restaurant in person or seen a menu. I have called and asked "how is your moo shi?" and they said "its excellent". I have had mooshi plenty of times and it honestly was excellent. The pot stickers are totally awesome the the people who pick up the phone are super sweet and excellent. ordered a large take out order 1st time from new rose garden which included a pu pu platter for two and the wings were totally dry same with the beef and chicken teriyaki ,egg rolls and boneless ribs all overdone .The chicken fingers batter was tough and fried dark not the golden color that they should be . They all were on the burnt side Also the pork fried rice was very oily . Overall very bad! I called to let the restaurant know and tried to talk to the lady who stated that Americans like to eat them dry and dark and hung up on me .That seems a poor excuse and when all 5 people attempting to eat this were all disappointed with the same opinion. I called to try talk to her and maybe give her another shot but never will now!
