Off the beaten path, we found a new to us place to get all you can eat catfish on Friday evenings. The parking lot is found across the street or there were a few spots along the road. When you go inside, be prepared that the waiting area is just enough room for two people. We were greeted upon entering and shown to a back table on the 'family side' of the restaurant since we had our grandsons with us. The other side has a bar with a few tables. My husband and I both got The All You Can Eat Catfish which comes with creamy coleslaw and French fries and noted it seems to be available as a seasonal item. We also got the children's shrimp, which is a big cereal bowl sized helping and comes with applesauce and fries. Our waitress was friendly and tended to us and her other tables well. Drove 40 minutes to meet some family for dinner I've been to this place a couple of times before. However, it's gone downhill since. Went in to have a nice prime rib or ribeye dinner with guests. When we finally ordered, got told the prime rib couldn't be anything but medium and they were out of ribeyes. Ended up ordering a double cheeseburger that was underwhelming at best. Should have known when the prime rib price was $31 and it's only 10oz. Wife ordered the fries shrimp dinner. Came with 6 medium sized shrimp and some fried for $22. Seriously, only 6 for that price? The guest ordered the catfish dinner. It was the only redeeming quality of the night. There are better options close by with better food and lower prices. Really bad food for our first time visitors. Ordered 3 prime rib dinners,Neither of them were even close to a prime rib. And paid big money for 1 inch steaks. They put 2 steaks on each plate. Wasn't Even able to eat them. Very disappointing. If you don't have prime rib say so. Don't try fooling us. Not our first rodeo. We know what prime rib is. New Ross Steak House has a great family feel. It's located a little over 30 minutes from west of Indianapolis. We went here for a birthday celebration and everyone was friendly. This place is know for it's steaks and I'm a pescotarian. I yrues the catfish and it was just okay. Need improvements but it will do. Everyone who ordered the New York strip steak, cheeseburger and tenderloin were impressed. They loved the meal...the baked potatoes were great. The entrees come with a side and salad and is more than enough to fill you up. Laura was amazing and treated our party of 15 well. The definition of a small town restaurant. My dad lives 2 miles from here so we decided to grab dinner. Both the main area and bar are small. When we walked in the ceiling lights were off which I found weird. Everything on my menu is cheap,and from what I ordered, everything is fresh. I ordered a grilled tenderloin and onion rings. They were little balls of deliciousness that were served with a side of ranch and some other dipping sauce. I had the fried shrimp dinner. I chose the sides of fries, a salad with house made poppyseed dressing, and a dinner roll. Everything was just decent. The fries and shrimp were just pre-packaged frozen foods. Although I've driven through New Ross a few times, I've never eaten at this establishment, until this evening. My order: 10 oz Filet Migon, shrimp, salad, steak fries and a house merlot. The waitress informed me that their 10 oz filet mignon was their best cut of meat. Since I eat a lot filet anyway, that's what I ordered. The meal came and it was very sub-par for a filet. The fries were decent, the salad was decent, the shrimp was good and the house merlot was decent, but it was only $3. So, no big deal. I said something nicely to the waitress about the steak not being very good and ask her to say something to the manager. I thought maybe she would bring another steak or offer me something else. Instead she just brought back the check and it was for the full price ($43) Being a business owner myself, what I couldn't help but notice was how this situation was handled. No acknowledgement of the steak being very sub-par. No offer to help rectify the situation. Nothing said, the bill was laid on the table and that was it. I wondered if they thought that maybe I just wanted a "freebie"...nope not the case. So, I paid the bill in full and also left a tip. My office and I went to New Ross Steak House on a company outing and had a great time. It is a small mom and pop diner in the one stop light burg of New Ross up interstate 74 about 20 miles from Indy. The staff was incredibly friendly and the small town atmosphere makes you feel incredibly welcome. It is the kind of place you can see yourself stopping on your motorcycle and grabbing a bite to eat during a day of countryside cruising. The food itself was pretty good. I was very impressed with the appetizer sampler which included decent wings, friend mushrooms, and onion rings. The star of this was the friend cheese balls. They were spicy and I could have probably made a meal out of a plate of these along. The salad they served before the meal was simple but satisfying with lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes. The meal itself was fair but nothing special. I had the 14$ surf and turf combo. While the shrimp was very good, I found the Filet unusually tough for that cut of meat. Others in my party had the T-bone which while rather large, looked very fatty and greasy. I must also mention the bar service that while quick and reasonably priced, used a cheaper whiskey then I requested in my cocktail without acknowledging it. The best place in Montgomery county to get a good steak dinner. Small Mom & Pop operation but they make a good steak and they are pretty cheap. Not positive if its local beef but I would assume that it is given the quality of the meat. The appetizers are pretty good too. We visited the New Ross Steak House last night, Saturday March 2 for my birthday celebration. My family has frequented the steak house for many, many years, dating back to the early 70s and always raved about the food, the service and the price. After last nights' visit we won't be doing that again. Because it was Saturday night we weren't surprised to wait a few minutes for a table, however, we waited longer than necessary to place our order once seated. After ordering, our server came back and told us they were out of most steaks and baked potatoes. She came back again to to inform us they were also out of popcorn shrimp and cottage cheese. Our server lacked immensely in customer service skills. She never once checked to see if we needed drink refills which is universally customer service 101, nor did we get rolls with our meals. When she brought the check to the table I asked if they were out of rolls as well and she said not. When she gave my daughter the check I said, you're out of food, so now we're out of money. She made a joke about washing dishes so I had to literally explain the meaning of my comment. Of course we paid, but she did not get a tip because those are earned in our book. I've heard about this place for years, after dining there, I'm not sure why. The wait staff was very courteous and quick,( it almost seemed as if they were trying to run as many diners through as quickly as possible). I had the larger NY strip steak meal & my father had the smaller portion. We split appetizers of onion rings & mushrooms. The salad was pedestrian and nothing to brag about. the onion rings were tasty and HOT. the mushrooms were hot as well, but were nothing more than late night bar snack food. Our steaks arrived when we had barely finished our salads and before our appetizers had cooled enough to enjoy. A rushed experience to say the least. My steak was ordered medium & my father's medium/rare. I judged the doneness to be close, while my father wished his to be a bit jucier. the only difference that I could see in my larger cut steak was an extra large chunk of grissle/fat on one end. I could've saved the extra money and had just as large a portion of MEAT as my father's cheaper cut. What really floored me was when they brought my "hash browns". Imagine if you will a double order of McDonald's hash browns, but of lesser quality and not cooked to crispy! Steak house fare? NOT! I ordered the 28 oz porterhouse. It was the kind of steak I would expect to get at I HOP, not a steakhouse. It reminded me of the steak I use to get in the chowhall for the Marine Corps Birthday.
