Chicken Pho You is a small hole in the wall restaurant right along Broadway in Millbrae. Super convenient parking, and it was quite busy during the morning hours! They have a few breakfast sets to choose from, and they're all very reasonably priced. I ended up getting the satay beef noodle, a classic Cantonese dish. There was a good amount of beef, and it delivered flavor wise!

    Chicken Noodle Soup (Large)

Ordered the Chicken Noodle Soup and it was sooo good. The noodles were perfectly bouncy and the soup was very savory (a customer said they didn't use MSG). The service could be improved, but the food is really the star here. It was quite packed when I went in there during lunch time, so it's definitely a hot spot!

Good value lunch and dinner menu options as well as many soup noodle options are available at this eatery in downtown Millbrae. There were quite a lot of patrons during lunch time and most ordered their soup noodles. We tried their special rice plates and were happy.

A hole in the wall spot in downtown Millbrae with comforting noodle soups. Usually no wait for a table. A large is only $1 extra for the noodle soups! Items ordered: - Chicken noodle soup: My go-to noodle soup. They provide a generous amount of chicken which is a mix of light and dark meat without bones. I always get a large and usually I have leftovers to take home and can make another meal out of it. - Vietnamese beef stew noodle soup: The soup had a bit of a sour taste for me which wasn't bad, it was just a different flavor than I have had previously. Also comes with a generous amount of beef with carrots and cabbage. - Fried imperial rolls: I think they changed the rolls from before because this time the rolls had some taro paste in them. Still pretty decent but I think I liked how they rolls were before.

This weekend is the Millbrae Art & wine festival. We hadn't come down from the City in several years. As we're walking around I'm keeping my eye out on where to eat. Food stand or a sit down? This informal restaurant caught my eye. We entered around 11:30am to many folks eating inside. Pho on a hot day? Yes. Hubby got his fave - the combo. I also got my usual- grilled pork with imperial roll with vermicelli. Hubby's pho was served typically in a large soup bowl. He enjoyed the broth. Mine was served on a dinner plate rather than in a bowl that I'm accustomed to. Plenty of grilled pork. With a heap of iceberg lettuce. A small nest of noodles. And a sweet clear dipping sauce. The dish was ok but I wouldn't order it again. The imperial roll resembled an egg roll. Service was quick and efficient. It was nice eating at a sit down restaurant rather than standing at a temporary bar table in the parking lot.

A staple in Millbrae and especially when I'm in the area and craving a hot bowl of chicken pho.I've been coming to this restaurant for many years and their chicken pho always hits the spot on a cold morning. It gets pretty packed around 9am in the morning on the weekend along with a lot of takeout orders from the residential area nearby. The restaurant is has more of the Cantonese fare of dishes mixed in with some Vietnamese dishes as well. Their Cantonese breakfast combos/specials are affordable and pretty decent as well, such as their steamed rice rolls. But I always come for the: 1) #2 - Chicken Noodle Soup With Chicken Intestines(7.8/10) - The chicken slices are tender and not dry. The soup is hot and very flavorful. The rice noodles that come with it are thin flat rice noodles and they have a good chew to them. It comes with a lemon wedge and some jalapeno slices on the side. The "intestines" aren't really the intestines, more like the innards(which is just chicken gizzards and liver). The innards are prepared and cooked well and there isn't a funky smell to them, so they cleaned them well. There is something just very homey and comforting about this bowl of chicken pho! I've also tried: 2) Mixed Rice Ball(6/10) - This is basically the Toishan Tang Yuan, which is the savory version of tangyuan. It comes with a thick savory soup and a plethora of toppings (tangyuan - plain(not filled), dried shrimp, fish cakes, mushrooms, Chinese sausage(lap cheung), napa cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, sliced radish, etc.) It is a pretty big bowl and could probably feed 2-3 people. 3) Special Combo With Rare Slices of Steak(4/10) - Not a good bowl of beef pho at all. The soup is light and doesn't have any beef umami and the thin rice noodles they use for this, always ends up becoming mushy(not sure why...its the same ones they use for the chicken pho, but they always overcook these). The toppings are the typical pho toppings. I've given this a try a few times and I always end up being disappointed with it. 4) Iced Lemon Tea(6/10) - A typical HK style lemon iced tea. Light and refreshing and you can adjust the sweetness on this. 5) Hong Kong Milk Tea(5.8/10) - A decent milk tea and they use the cloth strainers to make the milk tea. You can also adjust the sweetness to your liking for this drink as well. Service is efficient and quick. The waitresses in the morning are all super nice. The kitchen does take awhile to get out the food when they have a flood of orders though. Just a no frills restaurant with staple Cantonese and Vietnamese dishes - some are good and some are just misses given their huge menu.

My friend and I came here to try. The prices are reasonable. Some places are a bit pricey. The portions are big. They have a good deal from their special menu as well for $12.99. If you include a drink, you add $1.99 extra. The service was good and they have a good ambiance as well.

Chicken Pho You has been a Millbrae staple for many years now. It's a great place to fill your belly for a reasonable price. I always get their Pork with vermicelli noodles, rice cakes, eggs and salad. Today I tried the chicken which is also good but I just prefer the pork. I believe they charbroil it so it has a bit of char making their meats flavorful. Their spring rolls and crab cakes are also my most picked appetizers. They also have breakfast and lunch specials that I need to try out one day.

Ample seating, fast service and good home food. Its great for someone comforting and warm. Feels like a mom and pop shop. Will be back to try more.

First time here and they were opened on Thanksgiving. Very quiet inside the restaurant. A lot of variety in the menu. Just ordered the big bowl of noodles. Looks big and tasty.

Came on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. We were warmly greeted and sat down right away. It seems to be more of a Chinese/vietnamese fusion restaurant. Spring rolls were pretty tasty, peanut sauce could've had a heavier peanut taste. I got the chicken pho which came with wide rice noodles not the traditional skinny pho ones- I like how tender the chicken is and the broth was very flavorful. Also nowadays pho places are about $20/bowl so this meal was a lot cheaper than I had anticipated. The chicken rice plate was also a good portion and tasty. Overall, left very satisfied!

I can't believe this place exists! I come all the way from the city just to have their breakfast combos. Nothing in the city is as comparable to this place and its price point. (If there is, someone let me know please.) Their pho uses the flat noodles which is my absolute favorite. Everyone who works here is super busy but extremely polite. Usually on weekends, it's packed with local aunties and uncles.

Chicken Pho You has been a staple in my family for years. It's a solid establishment to get a bowl of chicken pho. We pick-up from here anytime the weather is a bit chilly or someone is under the weather and craving chicken noodle, This is also a good place to grab breakfast. They have some great combos that are fairly priced, such as jook with rice roll for under $15. Service is no frills and quick.

My gauge is comparing it to Rooster and Rice (or What The Cluck) which is no longer available in the area. We did take out and ordered online. I wasn't sure what to expect. 1) Pork knuckle soup - the hubby raved about it and enjoyed it, saying it was very tasty. 2) cucumber salad - the grand kids love their cucumber salad - thank goodness we ordered a side of it since they finished what was in the hainan chicken special plate 3) Hainan chicken over rice was smooth and tasty. It came with cucumber and wood ear mushroom at least 8 pieces of chicken, fungus salad, some peanuts, one small egg roll, green onion paste and tasty rice cooked in some chicken stock/fat. It also included a small bowl of soup. It was all great in our opinion. When you order online - you get a text message that your order is confirmed. Dishes we tried: 1 The Hainan Chicken Rice Plate - surprised? It is served slightly chilled and has the signature gelatinous skin. Something was lacking in the flavor, even combined with the ginger scallion oil included. It wasn't bad but not stellar. 3/5 2 Braised Beef Brisket and Tendon Over Rice - nice balanced flavor; briskets were soft and tendons had the perfect texture. 4/5 3 Spicy Pork Ear - heavy on the peppercorns, otherwise it would have been great. 3/5 They close early at 8pm so need to plan for an early/regular dinner. A number of people stopped by after 8pm expecting to be seated thinking 9pm is closing. Street parking is usually reasonable to find with nonmetered street parking or a couple blocks into residential neighborhood. Will come back one more time to try different dishes if we're in the neighborhood.

The noodles were tender, and slightly chewy. The shrimps were plump and the egg gravy was smooth, velvety, glossy, and slightly thick enough to coat the noodles. Even though it had been a while since our last visit, we always found the food to be pretty consistent and reliable. So, after seeing that Garden Kitchen had taken their place, we had to come here to see how this place compares! Looking around inside, it's hard to tell that anything about this place has changed. Their configuration is largely the same, offering plenty of tables inside, for groups large or small, and the menu, while different, is still pretty interesting. While not a HK cafe, it has a cafe sort of feel to it. Along with a slate of appetizers, they also have congee, noodle soups, chow fun/chow mein, fried rice, rice plates, noodle soups, and specialty entrees, including hainan chicken, which seems to be their most popular dish. In addition, they also have some Chinese BBQ options, like Char Siu and Roast Duck, but, tragically, we didn't see roast pork listed. -- ROAST DUCK (QUARTER) I was cautiously optimistic for this one and, thankfully, it turned out great. The pieces we got were rather meaty and the skin on this was really flavorful and neither too soft nor dried out. -- HOUSE SPECIAL HAINAN CHICKEN (QUARTER) Not as amazing as we had hoped for, but still pretty solid. The pieces we got were a bit lean and the skin wasn't the greatest, but the chicken itself was cooked well and I liked the peanuts that this came with. -- SALT & PEPPER FISH FILET Although this wasn't as good as others I've had, this wasn't bad. On the plus side, the batter was crispy, the fish was moist, and there was a fair amount of garlic and peppers. On the other, the inside of the batter was really gummy. -- THREE COMBO MEAT STIR-FRIED RICE NOODLES Sadly, I just wasn't a fan of this at all. Although this had a decent mix of stuff in it, the noodles themselves were torn apart, overcooked, and just kind of tasteless. Pass. -- BEEF CHOW FUN Pretty standard, but still pretty good! The noodles had a nice bite to them and, surprisingly, the slices of beef weren't as tough as I feared they would be. Plus, the dish wasn't very oily either. -- DRY FRIED STRING BEANS WITH MINCED MEAT Nothing special, but still pretty solid. The string beans were cooked well and they didn't skimp on the meat. However, I wish they had used some XO sauce in this to add a stronger punch of flavors. -- BEEF BRISKET & TURNIP RICE PLATE Along with the Roast Duck, this was my other favorite dish here. The brisket was super tender and I really liked how the sauce had a nice beefiness and richness to it. -- BRAISED FISH FILET WITH TOFU & BLACK MUSHROOMS This didn't look all that impressive, but it was actually pretty good. The tofu and mushrooms were both great, but, like the salt & pepper fish, the batter felt a little gummy. -- TOMATO BEEF PAN FRIED NOODLES I didn't eat much of this one, so I can't say much about it. However, based on what I had, this was fine. The noodles were crispy, the portion was decent, and the beef wasn't chewy. -- SOY SAUCE CHOW MEIN For better or worse, this was kind of generic. There wasn't anything about this that stood out, but at least the noodles weren't overcooked nor was it salty/heavy on soy sauce. -- POTSTICKERS Ehh...this was fine. The filling wasn't too shabby and I liked how soft the skins were. However, I wish these had a harder and deeper crust on the bottom to give it that crunch. -- PORK & SHRIMP WONTON NOODLE SOUP Honestly, this had the potential to be so much better. Despite how this came with a fair amount of wontons that were all pretty plump, the broth was surprisingly bland and diluted. Beyond the food, service here is unremarkable, but not necessarily in a negative sense. Rather, there's nothing amazing about it, but all of the workers are still friendly enough and efficient while the kitchen gets orders out relatively quick, which is all you can really ask for. All in all, while a couple of our dishes were definitely pretty tasty, just as many underwhelmed while the rest were just okay. Combine that with how there usually isn't a line and how parking is super easy (they have a small lot, too) and Garden Kitchen is still a terrific option for a quick and convenient meal. Though, one that isn't quite as tasty as Fat Wong's used to be. THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded down.

All in all, I'd definitely return. 4.5 stars.
