Des Moines is so lucky to have this teriyaki restaurant! This is probably one of my favorite teriyaki spots. Their teriyaki chicken is solid and you can really taste the char. I also got their teriyaki pork the last time I visited which was SO flavorful and juicy. I love that they have a lot of different combos you can get in case you want to try a couple items. This time I got the teriyaki chicken and katsu combo, and we also got the teriyaki chicken and spicy teriyaki chicken combo. The spicy teriyaki had a sriracha base, which I loved! And their salad dressing was also tasty as well. They gave very generous portions for the price. The employees are super kind. I asked for a side of the katsu sauce and they happily obliged! They also have self serve hot and cold water which was convenient.

I am a New Tokyo teriyaki fiend. Fav chicken dishes: chicken teriyaki, chicken fried rice, chicken katsu, chicken yakisoba. Always in the mood to come here. Service is fast all the time. Seating inside is cozy but I've done take out most of the time and it packages up well.

The staff is friendly and accommodating. The restaurant is nicer than 90% of teriyaki places I have been to. The food was amazing, spicy, well cooked and gone in a flash.

My receipt of the combo yakisoba.

Small location/parking lot. I would have to say the price I paid for a combo yakisoba was expensive ($19.14). Typically the combo is with all types of protein but they have you choose two proteins.

It tasted ok, I prefer less sauce. The portions are small for teriyaki and it was a bit pricey too specially for a smaller portion I felt. The place I usually go piles up the meat not just the rice and the beef isn't fatty or gristly either.

Food was good, just didn't favor the katsu sauce. It came out quick but the worker was rude.

Yummy combo yakisoba and spicy chicken teriyaki. Enjoyed the katsu chicken also. Takeout to the water. What more?

They over cook their teriyaki chicken and it gets my gums and they rarely put teriyaki sauce in our bag even when asked for

You do have to put a $40/person deposit but it gets refunded once you pay for your meal. There is street parking available. The place is very small which makes sense since he only serve 1 group at a time. This might be my personal opinion but Because it's only one group, I hoped it would have been a little more interactive, like the chef could have explained his technique and skills while we were waiting or at least let us see what he was doing. We sat at the bar table but it was blocked by a counter so we couldn't see anything and he didn't talk and we had to wait around 15 minutes for our first dish. Foodwise: 10 piece nigiri --- love the different fishes that was available and all of them has their own distinct texture and flavor. My husband who loves nigiri said it was a fun experience. Scallop inari - scallop was cream and soft and smooth, I think the sweetness was a little overpowering though. Seabass crudo --- for how little there was of the fish itself, there was a lot of olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. After finishing the fish, I was hoping to have some bread to eat more of the oil. Special maguro don--- I love this dish - the fish melts in your mouth, the rice went well with the fish and the wasabi was delicious. Price was also very reasonable for the quality of fish. Overall, it was a good experience, I definitely would recommend

Started off strong with the uni shot, which was really good, and the sashimi fresh, clean, and exactly what you want from a sushi spot. We also ordered the mushroom and pumpkin salad with spinach, which tasted great, but at $20, it felt a bit overpriced for what it was. The rolls, unfortunately, didn't live up to how they looked. Presentation was definitely there, but the flavor just didn't hit. On top of that, they were falling apart pretty easily when picked up with chopsticks, which made them a little frustrating to eat. Service was solid overall staff was attentive despite how busy it was but they did miss our hamachi kama, which was a bit of a letdown. A couple things to note: this place is cash only, and it gets very busy, so expect a bit of a wait. That said, the vibe is nice, and the design of the space is something I actually liked. Would I come back? Probably for sashimi and appetizers but I might skip the rolls next time.

However, expect slow or inconsistent service and just an okay environment. //CONTEXT// Came here on a Friday evening as a party of two. Found a seat immediately //ENVIRONMENT// Honestly the environment felt a bit sad. There was no music, it was super quiet and just not a typical restaurant environment. Even when I ordered I went up and had to write down my order on their receipt lol. //SERVICE// The service was really slow. I understand that rolls take a while to make and they have a lot of takeout orders but I would hope they'd improve based on what they're seeing. Here are some examples: - When we got there, there was another couple who already ordered and was waiting for their food. Three other parties came in and we all got their food before them. This couple never got their food, had to check and then waited more and then just left. We were there for 45 mins before we got there so they were waiting even longer. - Another party got their food before we did and we ordered before them. Also it was interesting in that this person got their order placed with the owner but we had to write our order down - As mentioned it took us about 45 minutes for 3 rolls. I thought this was kind of long. //FOOD// Food was amazing! If you can get past the wait the rolls are so good! They're fresh, tasty and not too large or too small! I got the Akron, Newport, and the Juneau! These were all so good! The tempura and fried soft shell crab was perfectly crispy and not soggy at all. The fish tasted so fresh! The Newport did lack a bit of ponzu. Aside from that these were great rolls Overall, the rolls were good but the service and wait does make me hesitant to come back.
