Hot and sour soup. Not much to look at but, this was decent
    Kim Z.

The reason for 2 stars is the hot and sour soup is very decent. Everything else was horrible! The egg roll was mushy, greasy, and burnt all at the same time, just gross. The sesame chicken although a good portion was lacking any taste and the chicken was so chewy. The boneless ribs were the thinest pieces of meat ever, each piece was burnt and tasted only of burnt. Never again for me on this place.

    Greasy soggy fried wantons

I just had the most greassy and rushed order from them. Usually the food is good but the past 2 times have been nasty. The fried Wantons were definitely redipped in the fryer and were so soggy and disgusting. They never let the ribs sit to reduce the grease and just slop some bbq sauce on and box it up. My rice was swimming in a pool of grease and BBQ sauce. Everything was inedible.

The food was cheap, it didn't have any flavor very under seasoned, the egg drop soup just tasted like water.

When you dine in they will bring some sliced watermelon, water and rice crackers to the table to start your experience. I ordered a number of different dishes to get a feel for the place, as well as feed the family. The order: walovi/Wanglaoji (can of tea served cold) Scallion Pancakes, Lychee Shrimp Balls, Beef Soup with hand pulled noodles, special dumplings, Mashed Cucumber salad, sausage, and stir fried beef noodles. Overall the food was amazing 9.5/10 The entire meal was delicious, the noodles were perfectly cooked and the dishes full of flavor. The Leychee shrimp balls were excellent, the mashed cucumber salad was refreshing and full of flavor. All the dishes were seasoned well, the special dumplings were a little over seasoned and thus the 9.5 instead of a perfect 10. The tea was refreshing and not overly sweet it was the perfect accompaniment to the meal.

The restaurant is smallish and can probably seat up to 18ppl. This is a unique Harbin restaurant (the Capital region of a Providence in Northeast China). This authentic cuisine is hard to find; even in Flushing, Queens! On their store awning, it states "We Make Real Chinese Food".... They ain't kidding!! Note: Closed on Tuesdays! We went for lunch on a Saturday, and the restaurant was full of Asian people. There was a steady flow of Asians the entire 2.5 hrs we were there! (Yes, we had a leisurely 2.5 hr lunch; catching up with friends from out of town. lol) Our menu (shared by 4 adults, 1 child): -- House Special Dumplings ($18/12pcs): we ordered these boiled. Tasty; especially with the chili sauce and vinegar. -- Sauteed Tofu Sheet w.Chili Peppers $18: traditional Northeast China dish. Good but would have been better with more chili peppers. We added chili oil for an extra kick. -- Double Cooked Pork w.Sweet & Sour Sauce $20: Excellent dish! Preparation is very unique! There was no actual sweet & sour "sauce" but rather, the sweet & sour condiments were cooked into the batter of the pork. Loved this dish! Get this! -- Mala Lamb Ribs $28: Another Excellent dish! The spicy and numbing Mala taste was obvious without being overly spicy. Great flavors, Great texture. Get this! -- Pork Fried Noodles $15: All noodles are hand-pulled on-site, with noodle chefs having over 20 years of experience. This dish was made with just ONE very long noodle! Served with a pair of scissors. lol Great texture, and soooo satisfying! Even better with some chili oil! This had limited protein but a good dish nonetheless. -- Northeastern Style Braised Pork Elbow $36: Excellent dish! Huge portion. Perfectly braised, fall-off-the bone deliciousness. It was slightly salty, so definitely eat this with some rice. Get this! -- Rice ($2/bowl): entrees do NOT come with rice, so order on the side. -- Condiments: on each table, there is a condiments tray consisting of chili oil, vinegar, soy sauce, and salt/pepper. Definitely try their chili oil and vinegar. This really enhanced the flavors of the food. But some of the dishes didn't need condiments at all, and were terrific as served. Customer service was so warm, welcoming and friendly! They are happy to answer any questions you may have, and offered great suggestions. So, if you've never had Harbin Cuisine before, peruse the 6 page menu and ask questions before ordering! Lots of great dishes on their menu! Parking: street parking is available (in front and on the side road). They do have a small parking lot in back but spots are limited since it's a shared lot. Looking forward to a return visit to explore their menu. What a treat!! Thanks to Y&Z for a wonderful 1st experience at your restaurant!

The wonton soup was decent......wontons were very good but the broth however was a bit bland. Roast pork fried rice was pretty good.....a little dry and skimpy on the pork but the flavor was more than adequate. Hot and sour soup was really tasty with a good bit of spice. Scallion bubble pancake was very light and tasty. The Emperor cabbage appetizer was probably my favorite meal item.....crispy cabbage tossed in a peanuty garlic sauce with honey. It was served cold (which usually I'm not a big fan of, but this was an exception) and had a great flavor. Pork belly appetizer tasted very good but it wasn't crispy (which would have made it so much better) and the buns they were served with didn't taste completely fresh. Dan Dan noodles with ground beef was excellent.... they're served spicy and you can simply request the level of heat you prefer to fit your taste buds. Soup dumplings were of decent size and quite juicy...... unfortunately they lacked some flavor. Mongolian beef dish was excellent as was the kung pao chicken. Overall it was a pretty good meal but there was some room for improvement. The staff was very nice and it did have quite a cool "old school American Chinese restaurant" vibe from yesteryear.

Once I let that go and ordered one and experienced all its gloriousness, I was hooked! This is a chicken sandwich with an Asian spin. Chicken is moist and flavorful, as if it had been marinated before placing the delectable fried coating on. The homemade sauce served with it takes it over the top. And those pickles? They are one of a kind. You NEED to try this sandwich! If you are looking for traditional Chinese American takeout, this is not it. The cuisine at Mama Chan's is many steps above (not that I dont enjoy traditional takeout, i do!) The food at Mama Chan's is like being at a friend's family feast where their mom is a fabulous cook! The Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup is like a warm hug on a chilly day, soooo tasty and satisfying. On a day when I was not feeling so well, this did the trick! Can I tell you that I dream about this soup?! It's THAT good. We also tried the Sesame Chicken (which is served as tenders---big juicy pieces!) with a great rice on the side, and the Steamed Pork Dumplings, which were exquisite. The dumplings are made by hand and are a little on the pricey side, but they are of good quality and you are definitely getting what you pay for. The dipping sauce that comes with them was great. Rounding out the dishes we have tried over a few visits are the Fried rice and Garlic Udon, both were very tasty amd enjoyable. On my next visit I want to try the Braised Pork Belly Bowl and the Sautéed Sting Beans. Although all my orders were takeout, I would like to comment that service was exceptional. The owner, Diana, greets you with a smile and is very personable. Food is prepared as promised, on time, and with care. They even provide utensils. And this is just one of the many reasons I am a returning customer. Did I forget to mention the Beef Noodle Soup?! You need this soup! Go try Mama Chan's!!! :)
