JP's is a dedicated gluten-free kitchen but you probably knew that already. I am not a gluten-free person but I live with a few. Most gluten-free store-bought items taste like sawdust and cardboard. Not here. I can say with certainty that the baked goods here rival gluten containing baked goods. Their oatmeal or chocolate chip creme sandwiches are my favorite. Cinnamon roles a close second. If you're trying to keep your house gluten free without making non-gluten-free household members sad from low quality poor tasting GF food...then this is where you need to shop. I can certify that I am not sad eating GF goods from here whereas I am with popular name brands such as Udis. As a West Virginian, I have rarely seen pepperoni rolls made outside of WV except here. For them to be gluten free I've never seen anywhere else. They are exceptional especially if you put them in a toaster oven and let the cheese melt and the pepperoni sizzle and the bread get a little toast on it. This is an extremely small shop with no public restroom. Most of the items are frozen but they do have fresh daily offerings. They will heat up items for you such as a cinnamon roll if you can't wait to get home, just ask! As with all things GF, there is a GF-tax. It is expensive. But again, most GF people are not surprised they have to pay a little extra. JP's shows you why it's worth it though. read more

We needed some gluten-free pies for Thanksgiving so we ordered a pumpkin and apple one from this shop. We were pretty impressed at the large variety of gluten-free items (e.g., pies, rolls, bread, cakes, Mac n Cheese, Chicken Nuggets, etc.). The pies we got were both very good. Stumbled across this gem. (All Gluten Free) Was looking for a local bakery, needed sour dough bread for sandwiches. No sourdough, but bought lots of other things. Bought snickerdoodles for a friend, pineapple cheese cake, a chocolate whoopie pie, apple ring and a loaf of bread. Everything was excellent. Bread made the crispiest grilled cheeses. Since my wife recently found that she needed to eat gluten free we stopped to check them out. Joe Parker, Chief Baking Officer has developed many of the best food items every made without gluten. Joe and his bakers produce pastries, breads, biscuits and rolls, Pizzas and pastas, chicken tenders and pot pies and gravy. We bought a load of food and since we spent over $75.00 they put it on ice for us in an insulated travel bag. Eveything that my wife has tried since we arrived back in NJ has been delicious. We first became aware of JPs years ago when they were a vendor at a local gluten free festival. Ever since then, we have been obsessed with this bakery, which boasts being the only certified gluten-free bakery in North Carolina. While they currently wholesale their products at various local stores, we were excited to finally get a chance to visit their storefront. The majority of the building is dedicated to their kitchen facilities. The actual store-front isn't that large. But it was big enough to store all sorts of amazing gluten-free deliciousness! Some of the items are room-temp, while others are refrigerated or frozen. They offer everything from gluten-free chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese to cinnamon rolls and Hawaiian rolls. I'm familiar with JP's from my local Whole Foods, and Lovey's and Apple Annie's in Wilmington also carry their products. So I stopped by on a whim about a year ago and this little store has a great selection of goods! Most items in the store are frozen, which works for me because it means they will have thawed by the time I get home from Benson. Worth a little trip or a stop if you're passing nearby. I have to admit that their cupcakes don't wow me - I've tried a few at different times and the cake always seems too dry. But so many other things I've tried are amazing: love the plain biscuits, the cheesecake bars are divine - pumpkin was a revelation! - and when I stopped by this week, they had fresh chocolate challah bread. I was able to find so many wonderful gluten free products (and some gluten free and vegan) to bring home to New Jersey and I am excited to try every pastry! There are yummies in my bag that I have never even had before including some incredibly soft gluten free pepperoni stuffed breads and gluten free chocolate challah bread. We stopped at The Grind (who carries some of JPs products) on Kelly's suggestion and my son (who has celiac's) got to try one of your brownies and he said he was the quietest he has ever been in the last 900 miles! I went to the bakery in Dunn/Benson NC. My favorite treat is the Brookie! It's brownie and cookie dough. I love being able to have lots of options of treats I can have. I am gluten free dairy free. I had more than 5 things to choose from! The presentation of the business is cool too, you can see into the "factory" where they are cooking. I thought that was a neat touch. By the looks they are very clear/sanitary. That gal at the register was sweet and informative sharing the places in Raleigh that sold their items. I was on a road trip and saw this huge sign for a gluten free bakery. I knew on my way back I had to stop here. There is no 100% certified gf bakery near me. Benson seems like a small area in NC. It was very easy to find by GPS. I arrived around 10am and Sara I believe was very nice at the front. I felt so overwhelmed with all of the options. The pricing is fair and I was happy that they carried ice packs as well. I loved how their freezers were organized by gluten free & gluten/vegan. I grabbed a chocolate cupcake, cinnamon roll, crescents & everything Hawaiian rolls. Once I arrived home I definitely had to taste test. The cupcakes was delicious, the cinnamon roll was so great and I wished I got more than 1. The crescents were delicious and lastly the Hawaiian everything rolls were okay. The taste of those were not exactly what I expected. I am mostly excited they will started shipping in Oct! Although a road trip would be fun, knowing I can have these goodies at any time is very exciting. read more

J.P's Gluten Free Bakery is the best I've seen and everyone was so friendly and helpful that we will be back on next trip. Bring lots of dough you may need both kinds. I have never paid so much for a loaf of bread. The selection was ok I suppose but no prices in the items on the shelves. I thought ok I will give it a try. WOW the sticker shock we paid $23 for a package of rolls and a loaf of Italian bread that was frozen in the middle. So much for taking it home to freeze. I don't need to save the seasoned cardboard loaf anyway. We just could not eat it. I am not sure I will let anyone try this at my house so that went straight to the receptacle. My sister and I were driving on the highway when we saw a couple signs for a completely gluten free bakery. I was excited and we pulled over. We got a little backwards since we weren't sure which way to go once we got off the exit but we googled GF bakery near us and we were only 2 minutes away. I was DELIGHTED to see they also had vegan options!!! The GF Vegan Carrot Cake is so unbelievably delicious that I can't believe it doesn't have those ingredients. I also sincerely appreciate the very thorough ingredients list on every single item sold. Only downside is the place is very very tiny in there so social distancing is hard. AMAZING!! no other word for it. I Have been coming here for a couple of years now and the items just keep getting more diverse and better tasting, if that is even possible. JP's Pastry ... a little place in the small town of Benson, NC right by the railroad ... is huge in fresh, gluten-free goodies. Who knew? Two key billboards on I-95 tipped me off, I got off at exit 79 ... took a 5 minute trip into town, explored, and came out with $85 dollars worth of biscuits, pastry, bread, and fresh pasta. The gluten-free cheesecake portions topped off a couple of great dinners last week ... and the biscuits are going to last all autumn. There's also prepared foods inside as well.
