These are the best bagels around. I usually order them on UberEats, I just got my order and they are still warm. Crispy outside with a nice soft and dense( dense in a good way) and chewy bagels, not like some places (i.e. Panera) where they are just like bread in a bagel shape. My favorite are everything and onion bagels. These freeze amazing, too. I always order the chive cream cheese, I've tried others as well, all good. Great price, too. I placed an online order and they immediately took the money. When I called, I got talked over and told--again and again--"it's a pending charge." I kept explaining that the hold ties up my funds so I couldn't just "go somewhere else." No help. No ownership. I went to the window and the manager there was even worse--dismissive, no empathy, and ended the conversation with a rude "Bye. I'm not making your order." I left with no food and my money tied up. Wild. I can't say what was in their hearts, but as a Black customer, the tone and attitude made me wonder if I'd have been treated differently "if I were another color." I've never had a bad experience here. It's a small little shop, but they have the BEST bagels. The people working are always friendly and inviting. My favorite things on the menu are the lox sandwich on a plain bagel with tomatoes, onions, and capers. My close second is a cinnamon sugar bagel with walnut raisin cream cheese (which, sadly, I don't think they always have). And, if I'm feeling more of a lunch vibe, I love the East Side Veggie sandwich. So good. This place tends to get busy, so I find it best to order online and pick up at the window. New York Bagel has been a staple in Ferndale for as long as I can remember and it continues to meet expectations. I have gotten a variety of things from this bagel shop and they're all good from their salt sticks, to their house made cream cheeses, to their deli sandwiches. But my favorite is an egg, sausage and cheese sandwich. As always it was cooked well, cheese had a nice kick, and the bagel was toasted to perfection. I only took off a star because the new staff wasn't great today. My staff member didn't smile at all, and was a little rude when asking me to repeat myself because she couldn't hear me. Otherwise I would've given another star. But overall I love New York Bagel, and we will be back next weekend. read more

Ordered online and used the pickup window on the right side of the building. They were a bit slow to notice people were standing out there. Not sure if it's only walk-up or if you can also do a drive-thru. I got a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheddar, and ham. I also chose a rosemary salt bagel but I think they maybe given me a plain one. No flavors of salt or rosemary whatsoever. My older sis got an everything bagel with cream cheese which she enjoyed! Actually a really good bagel but weird space and service. I got a sausage egg and cheese on jalapeño and a small coffee and my total was around $6.50 which I thought was wildly cheap. Coffee was very good and strong and tbh it was one of the better bagels I've had in my life - and coming from NYC I KNOW a good bagel when I have one. Now onto the strange. I thought I was talking at a reasonable pace when I ordered and the woman RUDELY asked me to slow down multiple times to the point that I was embarrassed and other people in the place were shooting me sympathetic looks. Secondly, their process for making my bagel was so weird and offputting. She legit microwaved the egg, sausage, and cheese together in a takeout container, I kid you not. I was lucky to grow up with close access to the best bagels in the city. Bagels were part of the culinary landscape, where everybody knew how their favorites were made and allegiances were developed early in life. In Michigan, bagels are synonymous with bread rolls - sorry, but that's the truth. So it was a treat to find a bagel place where the bagels were closer in taste and texture to the ones that I grew up with. The bagels are smaller (a good thing), with a crisp crust and a chewy interior. Since they were a favorite of the office, they were often part of our Breakfast Thursday rituals. As a result, I've had many of the bagel flavors (salt, sesame, plain, cinnamon raisin, garlic... it might be easier to name the ones that I have not tried) and cream cheeses. I was in the neighborhood when I saw the familiar yellow sign and quickly turned into the parking lot. Since we were still social distancing, we were all in masks and the shop limited the number of people inside. I came at just the right time, after the breakfast rush - which I remember quite well. I took just a few minutes to decide from the bagels in the case - I went with the Parmesan, untoasted, served with plain, light cream cheese. In short order, the bagel was ready and I was on my way. Since I did not have a proper breakfast or lunch, I gobbled this tasty treat in my car. So glad that I did not select the equally delicious (but messier) sesame seed bagel! read more
