This place has decent food but they are slow. And OMG a Covid door still? Someone please tell them it's 2026. lol Last time I was there, they were 10-15 minutes late with my food and I stood outside in 30° windy weather. Everyone was complaining, and most of us went back to our cars. The only problem is then you don't know when your food is ready. ‍ The other issue is that having that Covid door makes them walk back-and-forth to the cash register to take your payment then you gotta sign your receipt. Very good, very friendly. No matter where I go I always order beef & broccoli extra extra spicy with plain lo mein. This was the first place that really put plenty of the chili oil and flakes in there, even whole peppers. I'm hooked and can't wait to get more. Some of the best I've had. read more

Because they always lie about the time the food will be ready. So we left at 30 minutes after placing our order and still waited 30 minutes. And let's not talk about the wood door they put up that doesn't let you go in the business and stand outside in the cold, heat rain and wait in the elements. Just finished eating takeout from New York China in oak ridge,nc. It was probably the worst meal I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant. The orange chicken was so over cooked. It was crunchy like rocks not edible the pod. Thai noodles were so over cooked it was mush, beef and broccoli didn't have three pieces of beef in mind you it was a large order 67. The eggrolls were cold pork fried rice was OK, and might order for my family was over $60 and took an hour and a half when we were told 40 minutes. I've gotten takeout several times and have ordered a lot of different items. The people are very nice and the food is delicious. It is made fresh to order and is always piping hot. The veggies are the perfect "tender crisp". Egg rolls are very flavorful. Update 10/31/18 everything is still delicious and if you call ahead your order is ready in 15 minutes. We made the order online and they called and asked to inform us that it would be 45 mins before the order would be ready. I thought was very considerate of them just to verify with us if ok. But then we get there and ended up waiting a total of an hour & 25 minutes for the order. First of all you have to stand outside because they don't allow you to go inside. I guess they are still living in the era of covid! Who knows, either way time to move on. If you sit in your car and wait you will not here your name called to get youre order. So they get you to pay and accept your orders through a makeshift door when you get there. So now you're locked in to have to wait how ever long they need you too. Good luck getting them to come to the door unless they are bringing out orders. Anyways i was confused on why the long wait, you would think that during the extra 45 mins we are standing there that you would see a considerate amount of people picking up orders since the long wait but that was not the case. No one never came back to the door to give anyone an update on timing or what was causing the delay. Once we got our order and got back to our destination that we were going to eat. We did get everything we ordered but the portion sizes were small and not what we had been used to in the past. Needless to say i don't think we will be going here anymore. read more

Very convenient to place an order, do your grocery shopping, and have dinner ready to go! Seating: Good. There are a few small tables, and seating area was very clean. Portions: Good/as expected. Price: Good/as expected. Got a combo meal (entree + rice + egg roll) and it was around $8. Now the important part--food: I tried the sweet & sour chicken combo meal and it was good. Egg rolls were fantastic. Came with a tasty fortune cookie. My SO tried the General Tso's and it wasn't as good/lackluster. He tossed the leftovers. The pork fried rice had good flavor, though. We live kind of far out so we don't have many choices for restaurants. We have a couple of places that will deliver to us but unfortunately New York China does not deliver or I would have gave 4 stars. The Chinese food is better than our alternative which is China Gourmet. It's average tasting Chinese food but nothing to write home about so far. We have only tried the shrimp lo mein, sesame chicken, and General Tso's. Hopefully we will run across something that will make us want to call in an order and pick it up. Food is 3 stars, customer service is negative 3 stars. Used to go there all the time but since Covid started it's gone down hill bad. Their door is boarded up with a slot to pay and get your food through but there's no one by the door to assist customers in any way. They've been extremely rude the past few times we've called orders in and the wait times have been pretty bad too. The past 2 times have been the last straws for me, sitting outside in the cold waiting for my food only for a 10 year old girl to shut the door in my face every time I try to tell her I'm here to pick the food I just called about. I think the food is decent for the options available out in the hinterlands of Greensboro. My one and only complaint is the restaurant will not prepare your food until you pay. The store receives orders online but not payments. Take-out is a joke if you'll receive an order but not prepare it until some arrives to pay. I may as well dine-in but I recommend against that at this restaurant...the children everywhere, the 10 or 12-year old serving me and taking my money or credit card, the wall of everyone's name and phone numbers of those ordered but never pay & pick-up (very low class behavior of each party). I am shocked this place has 4 stars. Well, seeing its in Stokesdale, I'm actually not that shocked. No, I'm not picking on Stokesdale, but the truth is, people in Oak Ridge, Stokesdale, and Summerfield are afraid to venture out. I didn't end up eating either and they sat in my fridge for days. That's impressive all in its own seeing my family fights over Chinese leftovers. Not in this case. The egg rolls were egg rolls and good. The hibachi chicken and shrimp was two shrimp and chucks of chicken smothered in some type of ginger tasting sauce. It tasted nothing like hibachi chicken and only after paying for the meal did they inform me sauce was extra. Probably not a bad thing because I don't think any sauce could have helped that. While the staff was friendly, I was not keen on a 10 year old girl taking my credit card and swiping it. Enough said about that. Stokesdalers, head down the road to the China Gourmet in Oak Ridge. Wanted to try a new Chinese takeout place and came to Yelp to check out our options. This place wasn't super far and had decent reviews, so we gave it a shot...unfortunately. I ordered the teriyaki beef & chicken with fried rice and my husband had the hibachi beef and chicken with fried rice. What we received was a disappointing portion size of meat and a ton of yellow, tasteless rice. The meat didn't taste bad, but not great, either. The egg rolls were really delicious and my kids enjoyed their pork lo mein so those two facts earned 2 stars as opposed to zero. Won't be back. read more

I have no idea how this place could garner 3 and 4 star reviews. We aren't huge fans of the only other Chinese take out restaurant in Oak Ridge, so we decided to try this one. Got Mixed Veg. w/Garlic Sauce (supposed to be spicy), Ma Po To Fu (supposed to be spicy), Szechuan Shrimp, Kung Pao Shrimp and Double Cooked Pork. So, we certainly gave quite a few dishes a try. ALL of them tasted exactly the same. The same awful sauce on everything. Nothing was remotely spicy. The vegetables were so over cooked, they were completely wilted and melty soft. This was some of the worst food (of any kind) I have ever eaten. We were not able to eat it. Just threw it out.
