I had to find a business that could make a vegan sheet cake on short notice as my booked caterer bailed last minute due to illness. I came across NY Cupcakes and emailed them over the weekend. They responded that they could make a vegan cake for me, plus the regular one I wanted to, as well as deliver it to Redmond. Sold. Short phone consultation to go with the photos I had emailed went well. Ordered a quarter sheet cake that was vegan with chocolate and a regular vanilla cake with lemon frosting. Requested a congrats message on one of them. $65 delivery fee and there's a 3% fee for paying with a credit card. The delivery window is between 11-2. I wasn't able to be there in person, so I didn't taste the cakes myself, but as this was a corporate event to celebrate a colleague, I heard from a dozen people out of the 5 dozen there that the cakes were delicious. I got raves from the vegans and requests for the venue used. Will definitely order from this bakery again in the future, especially if I'm out of town and unable to pick up. read more

Been coming for 20+ years! Has always been a favorite and I stop every-time I'm in Bellevue - last few times have been hit and miss, I feel like the buttery frosting recipe has changed and today I asked why they no longer have filled cupcakes (the best around IMO) the guy at the counter said "I dunno, I guess they aren't popular so we just don't make em" sad, they had a case full of the regular stuff you see on the DoorDash page . We ordered a cake it did not match what we asked for (in decor and quality - the cake was hard and did not match the flavors we requested) and then had to scramble at the last minute for an alternative as the cake was too salty and inedible for the party. Fine place to pick up a cupcake but do not trust them with anything important like a birthday, wedding etc. It's not worth the risk. read more

Definitely one of the better cupcakes that I ever had. My Yelper friend C, told me about New York Cupcakes and I never got a chance to try it until now. Note that just because their name is called New York Cupcakes, it doesn't have a location in New York and has not much ties with New York. However, they were inspired by New York theme and built their brand around that concept. Anyways, I got the Mint Chocolate Truffle cupcake and it was delicious. Please note to eat it on the same day that you got it. If you have it the next day, it would be less fluffy but still very good. The Mint Chocolate Truffle cupcake had lots of flavor. All their cupcakes are made fresh on the day. The cupcake is not overly sweet. One thing to note is that if you pay using credit card they charge a 3.9% fee extra on top which is quite high (They also didn't mention this anywhere before paying). Also for $4.25 for one cupcake is quite expensive. The price does come down if you buy more but say even if you buy a dozen for $48, that is still pretty expensive for what they are charging. Note that they charge more than the famous New York cupcake Magnolia which in New York, they only charge $3.95 for one. Also don't forget Magnolia is located in New York Manhattan and they don't charge the price that New York Cupcake charges. I would come back again but will not make a special trip for it. read more

This a great place for all types of goodies! They do gluten free too! I have had several orders done and they never disappoint. Most recently was my sons birthday and it was star wars themed. They were very upfront with pricing and helped me stay within my budget by offering alternative options. I just had lunch at a nearby restaurant and was looking for something sweet when I came upon New York Cupcakes and decided to give it a try. I was greeted by a warm woman who said "welcome to be the best cupcakes!" I thought the place was really cute and the cupcakes and cakes in the display case looked really good. I decided to get the Chocolate Chocolate Decadent cupcake and a cup of coffee. I am not a fan of frosting but took a taste and it was way too sweet for me. The frosting was also grainy in texture which was a turn off for me. I scraped off the frosting and I ended up just eating the cupcake. To me, there was nothing special about it cupcake which was a tad on the dry side. It didn't seem any different than getting a cupcake at the grocery store or making it from a boxed cake mix. read more

Tonight, I drove one hour from Gig Harbor to Bellevue, arrived 5 minutes before closing, and the ladies working were still so nice and didn't rush me out. OK so I drove to Bellevue for dinner too, but this place was my first stop, couldn't miss it! Best cupcake? Yes!... The cake-part is super moist and has deep flavor! And I mean suuuper moist cake, you know like when you can actually "hear" the fork go thru. Amazing! The frosting is so buttery smooth with just the right sweetness! It's just the perfect level sweet to me! I can't handle the bakeshops with overly sweet frostings, like when you can taste the grainy sugar, blah. Our New Years tradition is New York Cupcakes and Champagne at midnight on New Years Eve. Well, because of being snowed in and hectic holiday schedule we forgot to get some. On New Years day we called to check they were open. They were and Lisa said they would close around 330-4p. We explained about our tradition and how we'd really like the cupcakes. When I was a little girl, I used to beg my mom to go to this place for a sweet pick-me-up after school. I recently revisited and the cupcakes are still as delicious as I remember. I tried Trophy cupcakes which is much closer to where I live, but I infinitely prefer these--Trophy had a much drier texture and the buttercream had more the consistency of shortening. The cake at NY cupcakes are perfectly moist and the buttercream is smooth and fluffy with lots of buttery flavor. I got a sweet strawberry vanilla cupcake and my boyfriend got one of the seasonal gingerbread cupcakes. The gingerbread flavor was strong but not overpowering, and I'm not even a big gingerbread lover but I thought it was great. The strawberry was also delicious, just great flavor and texture. As an adult, I did have a little bit of a sugar headache after eating the whole thing in 5 minutes, but it was worth it. I'm sure kids would absolutely love this place. The lady who greeted us was also super sweet and welcoming! I hope to come back soon for special occasions or just to feel a bit of nostalgia for my 8-year-old self. read more

Such a cute dreamy shop. I just couldn't walk by without stopping in. It's extremely lovable, wish I was a kid so I can enjoy my birthday parties here. They have different kinds of cupcakes, macaroons, cakes and cookies. Some cupcakes are prepackaged and sold for a reasonable price. It was really hard for me to choose, they all looked delicious. I ended up getting vanilla strawberry, cookies & cream, chocolate chocolate and red velvet. I decided to get 4 to share with my family and plus now I can try all of them. My daughters love macaroons so I couldn't go empty handed. Mom guilt is real y'all lol. The cupcakes and macaroons were a hit. The cupcakes were moist and flavorful. The macaroons were tasty too, my favorite was the lavender. I don't know anything about macaroons, this was the first time having them. I look forward to trying more in the future. read more

The incredibly passive aggressive response 8 MONTHS LATER from the owner herself was just the icing on the cake (pun intended) to the bad experience that was this gourmet cupcake store. Oh, and I am an adult so I will curse if I feel the need to emphasize my point. Yes, this business makes and sells very poor quality macarons. I stick by that. I'm not sure who they were referring to when they mentioned all the people that enjoy their macarons (they cost .50 more than the average macaron by the way), but my guess is the small children that frequent this store with their mothers. Those kids of course have amazing palettes and who I am I to judge, eh? Anyways, my public review is my blatantly honest opinion and I am happy with every word of my original writings. Went in to crossroads location after searching yelp for birthday cake images. Here was what i wanted: a cake for my kid with 4 days lead time. And based on an etsy image of a fondant astronaut that looked like an art sculpture because i made the mistake of looking at cakes with my 3 yr old on my phone in pinterest months ago but yet he remembered the astronaut and was sure that was the cake he would be seeing come sat. Uuuughgh. Sooooo I searched : Bellevue + birthday cake + custom and came up with a hefty sized list of options. But i also needed to remove ones that were in a mall so i could selfishly not have to get ready to go pick it up on sat AM. Tah dah! Off to crossroads to walk in and beg girl behind counter to please make this space cake that looks like it took months to create but i need it now. I sounded like a tall order but they delivered! Still my favorite cupcake place even though it is now owned by a new owner. Different from the first time I tried it when it was right in downtown seattle (5th Ave and pine I think). That was such an amazing experience and made me rethink cupcakes. It was like eating air, exactly how a cupcake should be - light and airy. Not dense and heavy like a muffin passing off as a cupcake. I'm glad to say this is still as good but not as great as 10+ years ago. On my last trip, we came here daily to eat the cupcakes. I loved the mini size as that meant I could do a regular + mini size everyday. Calories do not count on holidays. My absolute favorite is the chocolate chocolate decadence. The French toast and maple bacon was like having breakfast in a cupcake. A bit too sweet for me but the maple bacon was so good. It was like bak kwa (thinly grilled sliced meat). I find the chocolate base cupcake is softer and more moist than the vanilla base. This is another place which I thoroughly recommend to friends and is on my list of must visit places in seattle area. read more

In the summer of 2022, my family and I saw this beautiful Alice In Wonderland cake on display at New York Cupcakes. The design was so outstanding that we planned an entire birthday party around it! We came back in November 2022 to order the cake, and it came out perfectly. We got a two layer cake (one vanilla layer and one chocolate layer). The fondant work is something to behold. BEWARE of poor customer service! I came home with the cake in tact. However, 30 min later the cake started falling apart! The buttercream started cracking! I called and emailed them some photos and they concluded that is it due to "warm temperatures". It was absolutely not warm at all and on a side note I had the AC on. What makes it worst is they charge a $10 fee to fix the cake?! On a side note: their so called "buttercream" was NOT made correctly. How can buttercream be so liquidity in ROOM temperature. It was literally whip cream. Note to response: A company that LIES about their track record should not be supported. 11:00am pick up? More like 12p pickup! Two stars because the cupcakes are delicious, BUT I've been in twice since the pandemic and both times the staff in the back (bakery) were NOT wearing masks. The first time King county was not requiring masks indoors for vaccinated individuals. The second time the mask mandate had been reinstated and I was disgusted to see someone working in the bakery with their mask around their neck and not around their face. It's really disappointing because the cupcakes are great, but are they so great they're worth risking your health? Nope. :-( read more

On my way back to my car, I missed a step and the container slipped from my hand and went SPLAT. I was about to burst out crying but decided to see if they could help me out. They had closed and locked up as soon as I left but I saw a person in the way back so I knocked. She came, took one look, and first asked if I was ok (I was). Then she said she'd check in the back in case there were extras, but couldn't promise. But they did have them and so she gave me 4 new cupcakes in the same flavors. I give them 2 stars only. Their cupcakes were okay, but I prefer Trophy's. The cupcakes here a little on the dry side. When I bite into it, crumps fell off, which happens when the cupcakes are not moist enough. Not sure if it means they are not made the day of. The flower frosting on top was easy to scrape off as a whole flower, so they are not as creamy as I hoped. They also sell many cute party decorations and party favors, which I was interested. The lady behind the counter warned me to not touch anything since she does not want to sanitize them. While I was in the store, that lady was already busy cleaning the door handle I just touched upon entry. There are no lines inside or outside of the store. The entire shopping time, I felt unwelcome. Not sure how I can exit without touching the handle, so she did not have to clean again. I'm ok that they are taking precautions during this time but their delivery was odd. read more

Such delicious cupcakes! I stopped here on a whim when I went to the nearby Chipotle. First impression when walking in: Wow. Much pink. The girl at the counter was EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. I wish I had gotten her name so I could mention it here. She talked to me about all the different flavors and when I was hesitant about the price of a half dozen, she gave me a variety of other ways to get a half dozen for cheaper (cupcakes from the day before, smaller ones, etc) that I wouldn't have known about if it weren't for her. Ended up walking out with 8 cupcakes for myself and the staff at the office I'm working at. Everyone had glowing reviews. These cupcakes are some of the best we've found, and we've tried quite a few places. The frosting is creamy and sweet and the cakes themselves are really moist - exactly as they should be. I got the Heath cupcake which was completely unique and I love that they have flavors like that. We'll definitely be stopping here again at some point. read more

Valentine's Day is like your free day to pamper yourself with sweets. And a cupcake is about as good as it gets. New York Cupcakes is my second visit to a cupcakery. It is at Crossroads Mall near Blockbuster Video rather than in the main building FYI. The interior of the store is the absolute opposite in decor when I think of New York. Using Alicia Keys's description of New York in Empire State of Mind Part 2 as reference, NY Cupcakes is not in a concrete jungle, nor is it on a mean street. This is Bellevue. Crossroads is a melting pot though. The interior is more like picture book nursery rhyme fairytale dream. A name like Alice in Cupcakeland would be fitting. That aside, there are a dozen cupcake flavors to choose from daily, though the variation comes from the frosting used as opposed to the actual cake which is pretty much white cake, chocolate or red velvet. Each cupcake is $2.75 each, with discounts for larger purchases so it is kind of pricey. I got two cupcakes. The New York Black & White which is the signature item consists of half white and half chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream. The cake was not as moist as I would like and the sweetness was a little too much. I liked about as much as a QFC cupcake which is not a good thing given the added cost. The royal red velvet with buttercream frosting was much better. The cupcake was moist and the frosting did not overwhelm the senses. I think this is a good bet when choosing from the selection. Overall, I am calling my visit here a mixed bag. The cupcakes were decent, but pricey. From a male's point of view, the interior is a little intimidating. It is so not gender neutral like Cupcake Royale. Let's just say it makes me feel like dressing like the Mad Hatter. read more
