We went to New York, New York for Greek food last night. It used to be one of our regulars but it really went downhill so we had not gone for years. A few months ago, my husband said that he had read very good reviews for it so we decided to give it a try. It was very good. Just like it used to be, so we decided to go last night - Mother's Day. I think it was a bad night to go. The service was excellent considering how busy the restaurant was, but the food was disappointing. We shared saganaki as an appetizer and it was good. It was flamed at the table, crispy on the outside and nicely melted. Served with pita bread it was delicious. The Greek salad was nice and fresh with cucumber, tomatoes and olives. My husband had moussaka and his comment was that he has had better. I had roast lamb. It was very dry and overcooked. Our entrees were served with generous portions of rice and lovely marinated potatoes We shared a bourgatsu for dessert and it was also very good. We would probably give New York New York another try since we did have a very good experience on our previous visit but last evening was very disappointing. I'm hoping that it's just because the kitchen was overwhelmed because of Mother's Day. read more

My husband and I went to New York New York to celebrate our anniversary. We showed up Saturday night without reservations and we were grateful to find a table. The place was busy! To start, we decided to try something new to us: Saganaki. In all honesty it wasn't what I expected. There were so much oil and grease in the pan fried appetizer, it didn't work for me. Next time I'll try another appetizer or stick with the calamari. Husband ordered the calamari platter and I had the Lamb Slouvaki. Both were solid choices with lots of carb on the side! The restaurant was BUSY but that was to be expected on a Saturday night. It seemed like a good place for patrons of all ages (from young to experienced). Heard lots of good things about this well established Greek Restaurant, finally had the chance to give it a try! As this is during Covid-19, things are not normal ( I don't know what is "normal" anymore ), restaurant dining area was re-arranged to accommodate safe physical distancing, as we called in we were able to have our table ready, from observation they have been very busy with dine-in and take-out! As one of my fav dish at Greek restaurants, I would naturally go for the Roasted Lamb, and D ordered his Chicken Souvlaki, both came in a relatively short time, as you can see from my photos, our plates were filled to the brim! Lamb was done to the degree of meat falling off the bones yet still has substance! Chicken was grilled to perfection and still juice inside! Only complaint is their rice, for me it was a tad too soft and lack of flavour, but otherwise both were solid Greek dishes!! I really enjoyed the service here, especially now with all the precautions, they were still very friendly and made you feel relaxed! I recently ordered food for 25 guests for my daughter's 5th birthday, and I can't express how wonderful everything was! The flavours were exceptional, and the portions were beyond generous. Now our go to Greek restaurant! We started with saganaki. Best we ever had! Served in a cast iron skillet, it was hot and creamy, topped off with lemon, it was perfect with the pita. We shared the calamari platter which came with Greek Salad, pita and tzatziki, Greek potato, and rice pilaf. Very tasty and plentiful for both of us. We shared a bougatsa for dessert. Out of city crowd and close to outskirts makes this whole plaza little outing place. It has spa-saloon,Chinese restaurant,ice cream place,child care n liquor store.. so isn't happening. Interiors of the restaurant is big,fancy and romantic. The whole seating arrangement is arranged in an orderly manner. Restaurant menu will satify any gourmet traveller. Located bang at 64/152 in Surrey with loads of parking. The restaurant serves authentic Greek food and is definitely worth a visit. We tried the chicken gyros and roasted lamb shoulder. My three year old had chicken strips with fries. The gyros was a Greek donair and was filling. The ingredients were super fresh. The chicken strips with fries were delicious. The chicken went well with their plum sauce and it was enjoyed by us . The hero of the meal was roasted lamb shoulder. Simply fell off the bone and tasted absolutely delicious. Served with fresh salad, tatziki(did I get that right) and a roasted potato. That was one hell of a meal! The salad was so fresh and nice that I wanted more ( a big deal for a carnivore like me) . It's impossible for a single person to finish the entire roasted lamb and we packed it for later. Overall, friendly staff, family oriented restaurant which is recommended on a relaxed family day out. When it comes to good Greek food, never thought I'd come to New York for that. What can I say? Good service, typical Mediterranean atmosphere with a bit of Western flair, and great food for the price! One day, I decided to take the recommendation of a friend from work and make the drive out to Surrey for lunch by myself. Intending on ordering the roast lamb, I was shocked to hear from the waitress upon being seated that they had run out of the lamb for the day - at noon no less! That told me one thing: either I leave out of impulsive depression since what I came for was no longer in stock OR I stay and try some other menu item since their food must be good if they've already run out of lamb this early on (which, by the way, I was very sad to hear). I usually judge Greek places based on one dish and one dish alone - the roast lamb. Man, if you got a good roast lamb, you know what's up. But I digress. Anyway, I opted for the Chicken Souvlaki Lunch Platter which was $15.99. It came with a very good portion of skewered chicken, served with a simple Greek salad, pita bread, and the other usual works of a Greek platter. Everything was served at the perfect temperature and everything exactly as I expected it to be, no concerns about anything! The salad was fresh and crunchy with the right amount of acidity. The meat was perfectly cooked and tender. The tzatziki was AMAZING with the potato and the bread. So good that eventually, I just ate it with everything LOL. Service was so friendly and efficient, too. Since I live a bit out of the way, I don't think I'll be back soon BUT if I'm in the area I won't second guess myself if I'm anywhere near New York New York so I can try my chances again for a good roast lamb! read more

Their chicken souvlaki is a never fail, but I decided to go with their salmon and was pleasantly surprised. Salmon tends to be dry or overcooked, but it was the absolute opposite. Very disappointing this time! We've been before and it was adequate, but this year we had reservations for a Christmas business dinner for 4 guests and we were not satisfied at all! One meal was completely stone cold. The others were ok, but nothing to be excited about. As the wait staff brought the dessert menu, we were told that we had 15 minutes before we would have to vacate! We had not been told when we made the reservation, and no one said a word when we were seated. When all was said and done, we had 10 minutes for dessert and coffee! Not acceptable in any way and disappointing food means we won't be back. What a great place! I didn't expect to find such a great Greek Restaurant in Surrey! Upon walking in, I was impressed with the ambiance. Not super fancy, but nice for a casual dinner out with your partner. We were quickly seated and I was so excited looking at the menu. There's a wide variety of options, something for everyone! I ordered the calamari and roast lamb a L'Astoria. Calamari was a delight. Perfectly battered and crispy. The roast lamb was so delicious! It came with greek salad, potatoes, pita, rice and tzatziki. Definitely good value for your money as the portion was fairly large. The service was great here. Our server was very attentive and exceptionally friendly! In the last two years we have spent almost $2000 at New York New York. When the pandemic hit, we supported them by ordering in. When they started opening their doors again, we were one of the first customers back. We've brought family and friends here. Even when their prices started increasing and their portion sizes went down, we stayed on, trying to support a business Now this is the last straw! Tonight, we went there and were told there was a "shared plate" charge of $4.00 plus tax on that sharing as well. Talk about two-bitting your customers to death. My husband and I are at the age where having a plate each is just too much food. Loyalty is meaningless, just increase the price and the customers will pay it of course! We won't. I find this practice horrible and will walk with my feet. These people have absolutely no management skills whatsoever. How much is it going to cost them to find good customers like us. Good management is about keeping loyal customers, providing good service and good portion service. What used to be $23.95 is now $29.95. This is a 30% increase with 25% less on the plate - less shrimp, less salad, less rice, no butter, half a potato gone, smaller pita bread, etc. etc. Do we need to add another $4 to the bill as well now for doing nothing other than providing an extra plate? Two years ago, our bill used to be around $38. Today it's $55 in two years. It's not worth it at all! read more

We've lived around the area but have not tried this restaurant. Last night we finally did and it did not disappoint. The place was packed and I am so glad we had a reservation. It was a long while before we got our meals, so it will be a good idea to order appetizers. The main course is huge and we had to have the other half of each of our meals to go. I went there twice already and still love it! It will be my go-to Greek restaurant in Surrey. I can't believe I only found this place 2 months ago since I am in the area often. We went there with our toddlers and ordered Kalamari as appetizer. It was cooked just right and seasoned well. I ordered the roast lamb (L'Astoria) and it is so far my favorite in the lower mainland. The portion was huge and the meat was tender and flavorful. The same dish at Pelagos is also good but more like a stew than roast. My husband order the NY Steak and it was alright. We also ordered the kid's meal which is not on the menu. You have to ask your server. They have 3 options. I picked the chicken souvlaki with fries. And our little ones loved it. The chicken was not too firm for them to chew. We didn't try the dessert because we were too full. I had to pack the rice and greek salad home because I could not finish the whole thing. I think the portion size is big. The second time was with my girl friend. She ordered beef souvlaki and I ordered the lamb chop. The lamb chop was juicy and seasoned perfectly. My friend's souvlaki was also cooked perfectly. I will go back for their Kalamari and all lamb dishes for sure! read more

Went for a celebration, to get some good Greek food - we were not disappointed! Tried the mousaka and the platter for two, and both were excellent. Very large portions and nicely presented. I'm usually a big fan of this restaurant. We order takeout from their menu at least once a month and a friend and I use this as our "let's catch up over dinner" spot often. As a creature of habit, I always order the exact same dish - the Broadway Chicken. It's consistently good and when you're spending $60 on dinner, you want a guaranteed good thing. This evening we ordered takeout from the parking lot as soon as the restaurant opened and went home as usual. I was surprised when I opened my chicken there didn't appear to be any Dijon sauce. So I called to let them know. I feel bad for the employee I was speaking with first because she was simply doing as she was told. I explained the situation to her and she went to speak with the manager and kitchen about it. Then she came back and asked for a photo of the dish - which I had offered kind of as a joke but was absolutely cool to send. About half an hour after I sent the photo she called me back to say they had "reviewed tapes" of the boss putting the sauce on and if it wasn't enough, next time I should order extra sauce. That was a surprise. I was contacting them to explain that I was dissatisfied with my meal and their response essentially was, we cooked it properly so that's your problem. Eventually the manager came to the phone and explained they had spoken with the chef who had put the appropriate amount of sauce on and suggested maybe it was absorbed by the rice, next time I should order extra sauce if it isn't enough. As far as customer service goes this was a very disappointing result. Both the employee and the manager were very polite about it but the bottom line was their food was fine and I must be wrong. If this was something I ordered for the first time I wouldn't have known the difference so I wouldn't have complained. I order this EVERY SINGLE TIME and it wasn't right this time. But instead of offering to correct the order I was told the problem was me since they had done everything correctly. The manager did offer me a free dessert in the future but I don't have any intention of returning. And when I said as much she laughed, thanked me for letting them know about the chicken and then she hung up. I'm more disappointed in the customer service than I was in the dry, bland chicken. 1 star for the bussers who provided much of the service for us when we were there. Terrible experience. Been ordering food here for years but sad to say, I will be going elsewhere from now on. We were a few minutes early for our reso. The hostess seated us right away and then it was all downhill from there. We sat there for a long time before our waitress (and we had to ask a busser if there were any waitresses assigned to our table). She came to our table, doesn't introduce herself and doesn't say hello or apologize for keeping us waiting. I would have walked out but we were hungry and by the time we find another restaurant to dine at, it would be at least another hour. She proceeded to ask for our drink order but I mentioned that we're actually ready to order our food. She took our order but we never saw her after that. We got our food, it was really good. Our server never checked up on us the whole time we were there. She even sent one of the bussers to give us our bill. Wow - then I mentioned our experience to the owner nicely and she apologized but proceeded to say that our server has been one of our best in the past few years! I thought to myself, you're in trouble if that's your best server. I didn't leave a tip for the server - it takes a lot for me not to leave a tip because I know this is how servers make most of their living. I did leave a tip for the busser who was the most attentive busser we've ever had. There are so many other options for restaurants these days that this level of terrible service is inexcusable. The place was really clean as well. It's our first time here at New York New York Greek Restaurant. Our server was super friendly and has a very positive voice and very energetic as well. For our appetizer, we ordered the Spanakopitakia (spinach roll) & Keftedakia (greek meatballs). They were VERY yummy! The Spanakopita has a really crunchy crispy layer-like biscuit and inside is a spinach and maybe some cheese as well. It was really delicious. The Keftedakias were really yummy as well. We were like carnivores! We finished it really fast! It was a tender meatballs of lean ground beef with some greek herbs in it and maybe some cucumbers as well. It's garnished with parsley leaves and chopped red onions. It goes really well with the tzatziki dip that's included with this appy. For our main course, we ordered their Calamari Platter & Chicken Parmegiano. They're really good! 10/10. The calamari was really tasty and weren't chewy. They were really easy to eat. The greek salad that comes with it was very fresh as well. The food was hot when it was serve to us. Our servers were all very nice and always smile to customers giving the place a positive atmosphere. The portion was really big and we couldn't finish it. New York New York is my boyfriend and I's go to place for the seafood pasta. The seafood pasta has a TON of seafood! The price is really worth it! The sauce is also extremely rich and creamy in flavour! The pasta noodles are cooked to perfection - not too hard and not too soft. I really really recommend the seafood pasta. I also highly recommend the New York New York cheesecake for dessert. Hands down the best cheesecake I've had in Surrey. The cheesecake does not taste like its from a box, and the size is perfect to share with another person! You can also ask for the toppings on the side, which is what my boyfriend and I like to do, so that you can customize how you want each bite to taste like! The cheesecake also comes with basic whip cream on the side, and they are very generous on the whip cream! You'll probably have extra whip cream to spare! read more

Everything tasted just right and fresh - from the potato to the rice to the salad. Even the lemon wedges that came with our hot water were super juicy. Good quantity, I couldn't finish my lamb plate. Dessert - I ordered the Ecmek. I could tell this dessert could have easily been too sweet or too cinnamon-y but there was a good balance and no single taste was too annoying. It was so delicious - I almost finished the whole thing myself. Service - 5/5. Fast, friendly, not overly attentive. Professional. Atmosphere - 5/5. Love the trees in the restaurant. If you need any reason to go to New York net York, let it be the food. My family and I have had almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. The flavours are on point and the presentation is mouth watering. Our most favourite is the chicken souvlaki and Kalamari. Lastly, as a red seal pastry chef, I have such a hard time finding words to say just how good their tiramisu is. It's not over the top fancy, it's not pretentious. Update: changing my review. Restaurant owner called me the next day to apologize what had happened. And she sincerely invite us to go back with no problem for us to bring outside food for our babies. Very responsible act. Original: Not a family-friendly place!! This was happened today, A group of us including 4 babies arrived to the restaurant on time (I made reservations) and took our seats. some of the parents start feeding babies their own food, which we always do. We assume most places allow baby to have their own food/ snack. ( even going through airport customs, baby food/ snacks/ drinks are allowed) Waitress came to us and told us the restaurant don't allow outside food. She wasn't rude or mean, but it was certainly something very unpleasant to hear. We explained the foods are for babies, not for adults, and they are all within 18 months old. She suggested that we order food for them instead. This young waitress doesn't understand having kids means that they could be too hungry to wait for an order that might taking longer than expected, or, for whatever reason, they might rejected the food we got from the restaurant for and yet is still hungry. It is our responsibility to make sure we are well prepared for any possibility. We never had an issue of feeding our babies their own food in any restaurant we'd been. We understand the food regulation toward most of the places, but this policy should not apply to kids UNDER TWO years old!! We left the restaurant because that's the only thing we can do in our power to make sure we are non-disruptive to other diners. Firstly, the portions are very big so you will more likely than not go home with leftovers (yay)! I found the moussaka I ordered, though large in portion, was skimpy on the meat layer... We had takeout for Father's Day. Their prices are on the higher side compared to other Greek places but because of the good reviews, I decided to go out of our way to order from here. We ordered 2 orders of roast lamb and 1 of moussaka. The portions were quite big especially for the lamb and everything was packed quite nicely with the salads, rice and potatoes all packed separately. Our favorite for Greek food has always been the roast lamb but this time, the moussaka stole the show. It was very flavourful and satisfying. As for the lamb though, it was tasty and quite tender but it was very fatty. So fat that after it cooled down a bit, there was a layer of lard stuck along the sides and bottom of the takeout container. It got quite unappetizing. I don't think we would order from here again just because of the higher prices and our favorite dish could be had better elsewhere. read more
