We went here back to back with Slices (across the street) so take that in mind. I was kinda surprised to hear so many good things about this place and be pretty bummed with my slice. It was sweet sauce (not a fan) fine cheese and decent toppings, but nothing exciting. Service was good (really nice bartender) and if I was a college student this was a fantastic place to go in half in the bag and grab a slice or two, but not for a midday pizza adventure. Hadn't eaten here ever since we were fans of Tony's across the street and New York Pizza on Battleground. Well, the original owner of NYP (who owns the one on Battleground) came back and boy are we fans. To give some background, the owner, Ray Mascali, is Italian-born and started his first (and still going) pizzeria in New Jersey. He started Pizzeria L'Itliano as well (now under the former manager's ownership). We ordered pizza and wings and the delivery was fast, piping hot, and very, very reasonable. During our college tour of UNC Greensboro we decided to stop in and have lunch. My co-worker is a recent graduate and highly recommended this spot. He said definitely get the pizza and an appetizer. So we ordered a 5 piece jalapeño bites for an appetizer and it was pretty good. The ranch sauce was zesty and paired well with the poppers. It was noon and it wasn't crowded. Most of the students had already left for Thanksgiving break. I was told during lunch it would be packed. Thankfully, it wasn't and our pizza came out fairly quick. We ordered 1/2 cheese and 1/2 meat lovers add veggies. The veggies weren't cooked in and were just added on top. The cheese section was delicious though. I took the rest of the pizza home and put in the air fryer and had it for dinner. It was better once the veggies and onions were cooked. Seems like a great college hangout (live music, cheap beer), but my experience with the food was pretty ordinary. The Italian Sub (6") was very thin on both meat and cheese, and the roll itself was very bready, no crustiness to it at all. The 10" Pepperonia had a nice taste but was thin on the pepperoni, and the crust here is soft, almost soggy. The 10" Veggie was ok, but even soggier than the pepperoni. Might be a cool place to catch a drink or some music, but the food I tried was not a reason to return. read more

This Pizzeria is also a bar. It is located next to UNCG campus so it caters more to the college crowd. Even though they are 1 business, their is a separate side entrance for the pizzeria. As soon as you walk in the smell of cigarettes from the bar side hits you. Their are about 6 booths to eat it. The service was slow but then again only 1 person was working. I guess being alone doesn't make you very friendly at all. I did however give it 3 stars because the regular pie & the white pizza we got where both great. Crust was not to thin or thick, just the right amount of cheese & sauce. The white pizza was heavy on the garlic which is perfect for my taste. read more

Anyhow, we got a medium tomato and pesto, which is a bit more expensive because of how freaking delicious it is. It ran us just under twenty dollars, delivery included. Pizza grease abounds, so if you're into grease intake reduction, be ready to bust out those napkins. It's a great place to stop and grab a slice- maybe two if you're trying to get to their $5 credit minimum. I was born in NYC and would often dine at a local pizzaria with my parents. When we moved south, it was very hard to find a pizza that compared to the style I had up there. NYP is by far the closest that I've ever found and their pesto and tomato pizza is AMAZING! If you're on your way home from a bar and you feel like something to much on and maybe another drink, I highly recommend the talents of NYP! Ok another night after a game & looking for a late night meal. The place itself was not the best looking & the service I hate to admit was not the best. I hate to admit but I have a feeling they are probably use to a college. Crowd versus 2 families with a total of 8 ppl coming in late night to eat. We kept it simple 2 pies, one cheese & one white pizza. 2 liters of soda to feed 8 ppl & it was under $40, so it was a good deal. The pizza was SO GOOD, YUMMY, CHEESY & DELICIOUS. It was my first time having white pizza & if you like garlic & I do, this pizza was SCRUMPTIOUS, the flavor, the consistency of the cheese & the crisp of the crust was just to die for good. It's a shame I don't live in Greensboro otherwise I would be getting one right now. Definitely recommend it & trust me... I'm born & raised in NY & I'm definitely going to be going back!!! I came here for a late lunch on one of the recent cold days. Knowing that sometimes restaurants use butter and such in or on their crust, I asked the employee whether ordering a pizza without cheese would be sufficient to make it vegan. He said that the pizza sauce is actually prepped with parmesan cheese in it, so that would be a no. But after a moment of thought, he added that the sauce used for the pasta doesn't have the cheese in it and offered to ask the kitchen if they'd make me a pizza with that. This sounded like an especially nice suggestion, so I agreed. The trick to ordering cheeseless pizza at a place that doesn't normally do that is to make at least a couple of your toppings (and you must have toppings because what's the point of dough and sauce?) strong-flavored. Black olives and jalapeños served that need this day, along with spinach, which of course is a mild veggie but tastes good with the others. It took a surprisingly long time to come. I'm not sure if that had something to do with my order or if they were filling a lot of phone/internet orders or if they do pizza service in the bar area as well or what. I just know there were only two other tables of customers in the restaurant, that the folks who arrived after me got their food quite a bit sooner, and that mine took almost half an hour. I had a book and nowhere else to be, so it wasn't a problem, but it might be something to know in advance. I'm not sure how they do their music in the bar area, but there were sometimes two different streams playing. There was a continuous '80s channel (or probably an "'80s, '90s, and today!"-type station), but every so often a completely different song came blaring through the door at the far end of the restaurant. I couldn't switch to takeout because the food would have been cold by the time I got home, but I'll say it didn't make me want to stay to eat. The pizza finally came (a 10" individual-sized pizza, of course), and the pasta sauce was perfectly fine. It really wouldn't hurt for them to offer that as a regular option. The crust was thin and tasty but too crisp to truly be called New York pizza (as I remember New York pizza, you should be able to fold pieces in half without the edge cracking). The toppings were fresh and plentiful. It was a good size for filling me up. While I've had better vegan pizzas at the types of places that are specifically prepared to make them, this wasn't at all bad, and I am always happy to recognize an establishment that makes an effort to do something out of the ordinary for a customer. It's specifically for that bit of customer appreciation that I've chosen four stars instead of three. The longish wait and the background music's background music pulled the experience on the whole toward average, but I think that consideration made up for it. read more

The owner was disgustingly rude to me because they were "crazy busy". He hung up on me twice and I called back and proceeded to order with another lady. He snatched the phone from her and started yelling at me and hung up in my face. He is completely disgusting and I'm upset I can't do anything because it's a small business and he owns it. I grew up in NY and therefore tend to be picky about my pizza. I love thin crust big slice pizza which is exactly what NY Pizza serves. They are open until 4am which is awesome for the late night snacks. They deliver. There's also a bar on the other side of the restaurant where you can sit hang out and enjoy your pizza. The bar has a tv and full bar. You can also enjoy your drink/pizza outside in the front or the seating they recently added on the side. If you love NY style pizza this place is a must! The only reason why they didn't get 5 stars is because they are a little pricy. read more

So I have mixed feelings about this place. The pizza is very good, but the slices are tiny (it would take 2 slices to equal 1 slice from our regular NY Pizza spot). We asked for garlic bread, and the dude walks over and holds up a dried up, crusty piece of bread and says "this is our garlic bread, you still want it"? I was flabbergasted. There was a whole shelf of fresh bread right behind him, and it takes no time at all to butter up a piece, sprinkle on some garlic, and toss in the oven (the place didn't close for another 7 hours). We eat our little slices and are still hungry, so we decide to order a whole pie and take home the leftovers (since that seemed like a better deal). We sit down to wait, and a kid walks up and orders a buy 1 get 1 free slice. Then we notice the sign, "if you want the special price, you must say so before ordering". So yeah, sounds like this place has a special running all the time, but you have to be "in the know" to get the deal. I was very annoyed, since I felt like we'd already overpaid. As at least one other reviewer noted, I just don't see what the big deal is. NY Pizza is mediocre. Service is inconsistent. Not bad, just not consistently good. Decor is kind of dumpy, but that's not really that big a deal for this kind of pizza place. FIrst off, they are about as vegetarian friendly as any other pizza/pasta/sub place. Their menu looks like a million other menus: build your own pizza, manicotti, stromboli, subs, etc. But a lot of people say that its the quality of their food (well,mainly their pizza) that makes this place. But I must be tasting different pizza, cause every time I've gotten their 'za, it is nothing special. Its not bad by any means. I enjoy it, its just that it doesn't stand out for me. The other problem I have with this place is their prices. Some things like subs, aren't too bad. But a plain 16" cheese pizza is almost $14, and then each topping is almost $2. That really adds up. And a large stromboli or calzone is $14, which is crazy. I haven't drank at NY Pizza in a while, but I recall their beer selection leaving much to be desired. They will let a keg go bad, and not sure how clean they keep their lines either. But it has been at least a year since I've drank there, and longer than that since I've had beer problems there, so it might be fine now. In the end, going to NY Pizza has become a UNCG tradition, and is a good place to grab a slice and run into fellow students, but it shouldn't really be considered a foodie destination. read more

Have been ordering from this location for several years but the last two pizza deliveries have been the wrong order. Tonight the driver had the wrong pizza so he decided to go back to the previous house where he had just made a delivery to switch both pizzas and bring me the correct one. When I mentioned that wasn't a good idea to a New York Pizza employee on the phone he became agitated and asked "why". I mentioned that he can't serve food that has been left at one customers house to another customer. Nobody seemed to get that. Delivery takes AGES. We lived about 3 blocks away and always took too long. One time we ever ordered pizza and it took nearly 2 hours, that is ridiculous. We canceled our order because of how long it was taking and we wanted to find food elsewhere faster. NYP, along with Mario's & L'Italiano's, more than satisfies my craving for regular NY/NorthEast non-wood or coal fired oven style pizza. I too would recommend ordering a full pie be it small, 10, 14, or 16". Pizzas are exceptionally cooked yielding an ideal crust -- crispy exterior and slight chewy soft interior -- with some slight char. Ingredients don't "pop" with organic/locally harvested vegetables or fresh imported bufala but more than suffice. Additionally, how can one not contemplate the true existence of a higher force when both broccoli and fried chicken are offered as toppings? They also offer Sicilian style pizza which I'm eager to sample on my next visit. Drink specials are a definite plus. I unfortunately can only comment on Wednesdays when they have mass-produced light lager pitchers for $5 and $2 off whiskey drinks. Their beer selection isn't vast to include local or national micro brews but I'm typically in the mood for a pitcher of drinkability when here so I ain't sweating the technique. It's not as cheap as chain take out joints but "you gotta pay to play" & it's well worth the extra bucks (all while supporting a local independently owned operation). There was a sign posted advertising a large pizza with 1 topping for either $10 or $11 everyday - dine in or take out - which I'll definitely be taking advantage of. They also serve (and deliver, I believe) until the wee hrs of the morning (5 am) for all the late night college kids or manufacturing 2nd "shifters". read more

Pros: Location! It's right on the little strip by UNCG. Also, NY Pizza gets mad points for actually serving NY style pizza. Super thin, cheesy and the good kind of greasy. You're going to want to fold that sucker in half. They are super affordable and serve by the slice, which I love. The atmosphere is pretty cool. A bit funky. Good patio. They host live music on weekends. Woot! Cons: Much to my dismay, the pizza just isn't that good. :/ It was sooooo close and just quit in the last mile. Service is a little slow, but the pizza is okay. These guys have a bar that is always PACKED with people (students mostly), and i have herd its like the place to be Friday nights.
