I've shopped around a lot for a karaoke place I like. And with Neway, I found it. From the start the staff was helpful on the phone with booking the room, helping with room size to number of people calculations and just answering general questions. The place itself is also extremely spacious and well decorated. There's a general area for people to eat and mingle and sing, and there are big private rooms for parties that want to have smaller gatherings. The private rooms are great! There's plenty of comfy seating, a large table, 2 mics and a large screen. Disco like lights really make the experience fun and lively! And most importantly, a large catalogue of songs in several languages. The staff member gave us a tutorial of how to use the technology. Later, due to a glitch, she also gave us a discount! I have been back for karaoke and dinner parties this year. So, it's time to do an update.  I am used to the pricing structure at Neway Restaurant & Lounge for the karaoke portion. It's the most logical and easy to follow amongst the karaoke bars in Chinatown. There are different sizes of rooms, starting $30 for the smallest one to fit up to 8 people. Then, it goes up to medium $40 an hour, that was where I hosted my recent party. It can fit up to 12 people.  My party was during the week. I chose to rent the room and have a 10-course meal with drinks that reached the minimum of $295, which doesn't apply to the hourly rate. My guests ordered some drinks. Everyone was happy while we sang 4 hours to the end.  On the days that I don't have parties, I sing in the main dining room solo. The rule is $20 spending per person regardless of party size. If I didn't order that much, they would charge $20 for karaoke. The computerized screen has the most popular songs in many different languages. I only sing Standard English songs. There are few Spanish songs but you have to know the singer by name to search for it. Sometimes, the songs need to be downloaded or it may not be available to download.  The atmosphere is so hip. You don't have to sing if you don't want to. My friend that came with me was happy to be there. He just watched me while eating some Chinese noodles and drinking his Blue Moon Beer. We came to karaoke and NEWay delivered! It was easy to book a room by phone. Our room was ready when we arrived, everything was very clean and the lighting and ambiance was really fun. We only reserved our room for an hour and the host let us know we needed to keep an eye on our time but we could stay longer and be charged in 30 minute increments as long as no one else needed the room in which they would come tell us. We had so much fun we stayed an extra hour. Service was great. I will definitely be back! read more

I've been there times now, so I feel like I have a good enough basis to drop a solid review. The most recent experience was on a Friday, as a walk-in. For those of you looking for private rooms for karaoke, you know that's a difficult to ask. On one of the busiest nights of the week. We rolled around trying to find a few spots that ended up being booked, or way overpriced for what they had available. So we ended up here. They were able to take us with one room left. Let's do the rundown: Parking: If you haven't been to the plaza, it's huge. Parking is everywhere, and there's a garage in the back corner if needed. It can be a little cutthroat driving around to find a spot, but otherwise it's not too bad to find parking somewhere nearby.. Facility: It's clean, never had a problem with Anthony looking bad. It's been in to firm each of the times I've been. Food: I've only been once where I've ordered food. And I have to admit, the popcorn chicken was pretty damn good. We also had edamame, which was average. It's kind of hard to wow with beans. I've also had beer here, but never any of their cocktails. So I can't really write the cocktails. The beer wasn't too pricey either, so that wasn't a bad deal for a beer or two. Karaoke: Overall, it isn't too bad. They are lacking in music selection. I couldn't find a lot of things that I would have liked to sing, and their screen and selection process is not at all user friendly. Their mic and sound system is really good. I would say at least a third of the lyrics were off from the music though. I blame the video recording/lyric timing rather than the tech on that one. Service: This has been hit and miss, historically. The most recent time was actually pretty good, so kudos for that improvement. Overall it's an okay place to go. We came in really excited because all the other karaoke places were full and this one had rooms available, so we thought we found a hidden gem. Once we got into the room, though, we realized there was no YouTube and the song options were extremely limited. That took away a lot of the fun, especially for people who actually enjoy singing specific songs or different genres. We ended up leaving because the options just weren't there. I genuinely think a small investment like adding a Fire Stick or YouTube access would make a huge difference--guests could choose any karaoke version they want and it would probably bring in way more customers. Another Dun Huang Plaza favorite of mine is this place. I don't know if it's pronounced anyway or new way, but either way, its a cool spot. My friends and I decided to come here after dinner nearby. It was a spur of the moment decision that ended up being a super fun night. None of us had been here and didn't know any of the pricing details. Walking in, the place was pretty dead, so they let us have a large room for just the hourly rate. Typically they have a minimum expense amount, but let us pay for the time we were there. Customer service started off really strong, but as the night went on and more customers came in, we got less and less service. We ended up in the Katy room which was their second to largest karaoke room. This was one of the largest private karaoke rooms I had ever been in. There was so much room for activities in there. There was plenty of seating for my squad and we could of comfortably invited a whole other group in there if we wanted to. We had soju with dinner earlier so we kept it going here. We ended up with many rounds of every flavor they had. The karaoke list was sufficient with lots of great songs, but they were missing things we were looking for. Came here for group karaoke, $60 per hour for our party of 8 (not sure what size room we got). I believe this is a primarily Chinese karaoke place, they have a tablet where you can choose from their selection (I prefer also having a google chrome cast option because there were many songs I wanted to sing that weren't in their library). Came in on a Saturday evening with a group of 6. Was in one of the private rooms for 30$ per hour. Ordered the beef fries noodles, coconut shrimp and mayo tofu. Pretty good quality over all, loved the ambiance. Only reason i docked the star was because their karaoke system didn't work with most of our phones and the one person that got it to work kept having to relog back in through their QR code so we had to keep getting up whenever we wanted to add songs. Booked the Kingwood room for my birthday for about 17 people. Everything was clean, and it fit everyone comfortably. Prior to booking the room, I checked other reviews to make sure that we would be able to utilize YouTube or connect a phone so that any song we wanted could be played. However, upon arrival, I was a bit disappointed when we were told that they disabled the feature that would allow us to do this. The music selection was subpar, and the system wasn't user friendly but we did what we could to make the most of it. We were told that the room was 100 per hour and we stayed for two hours. While in the room, we didn't order anything but for whatever reason the bill came out to $256. I chose not to question it and paid the bill, but it would've been nice to know that an additional $56 would be added. read more

Some of the best Chinese dishes, like Snow Pea Leaves with extra spice, and wonderful flat noodles w chicken, delicious and perfect. Their chili chicken is also good. NeWay is open later, with the same lovely servers and amazing dishes, a little bit more expensive, smaller portions, bottled water only. So we prefer EW. The employees here get 10/5 if that's possible. They're top notch, some of the nicest in Chinatown. I had a bad experience a long time ago (maybe different workers) but the current batch are wonderful. Easily scores 5, but I wish veggie portions were bigger, because they taste better than local rival in the same plaza FuFu, and for 50-70% as much food it's not filling, and harder for me to be a true regular patron. Also, milk tea, whom is one of the best cats in the world - a Siamese we found outside here as a baby, which led us to be regulars here. We love Milky so much! Had an amazing time here for karaoke! I originally tried to go to another KTV place, but they couldn't accommodate my large group, so last minute, we called Neway! They easily gave us a room and we were in our way to singing! The workers are friendly and the food? Pretty good! The fried rice was good and all the other dishes as well. We had a great time here! It was a very nice and clean place to do karaoke either in the open area stage or in the private rooms. Food was decently priced and alcohol was a little on the high side but not completely unexpected for this type of establishment ($25 for Jinro soju is kind of rough). Service was always on point, although there weren't many rooms taken when we were there. I took off a star because of the karaoke system itself. Navigating their software was a little bit difficult but they did seem to have a good song selection despite missing a few older and newer popular hits. They stated you can download songs, but we were never able to get 'downloaded' songs able to work. All in all, we wouldn't hesist to return! read more

Rating for karaoke only: Neway is a very clean place where you can have some karaoke! There is no age restriction and the private rooms are charged by the hour instead of by person. I made a reservation and my party came late, but they didn't start the clock till we all got there thankfully. The worker showed us how to use the machine and it was simple. There are lots of songs from different countries, so we both had our pop and kpop fix! I've only been to 2 karaoke places but I like this one the most. The other one I went to was in the same plaza, but I felt very gross because the floors were sticky and the rooms were warm. Neway felt very clean and I didn't feel grossed out here . I will definitely come back and bring some more friends! Maybe next time I'll post an update with what we think about the food. Some things to note: You must make a reservation by calling them and then making a deposit through zelle. The deposit will be counted towards your room balance. They do not accept split bills. One person has to pay. They will hold onto your card until your room is done. They will add a gratuity fee after yout room is done. I had to pay that balance with zelle since it was a small fee. We came on a Saturday night as a group for some late night karaoke and drinks. We called before arriving and they happily booked us a room. It was $40/hr OR if you order $200 food and drinks, that $40 would be waived. Once we came in, we were greeted at the bar and promptly escorted to our room. The room was extremely spacious and fancy. The employees were very attentive, checked up on our room, and helped show us their karaoke app. You can control the music, add songs, and call for help with the touch screen display near the door, but you can also download their app and connect to their WiFi to control all of that on your phone! Pretty cool. The restroom was super clean and tidy, and their songs were very up to date. As in, Taylor Swift's You Need To Calm Down is on there also lol. And you bet i sang to that. They had a variety of options in terms of drinks and food, but we just stuck to drinks and their complimentary water pitcher. Definitely would be curious to try their food next time! For the karaoke loving people, this place will suffice. In the heart of Chinatown, Houston, this is one of the few places that cater to small and large groups who sing K while being served food. Despite its name being Neway, just like the authentic one in Hong Kong, it offers room packages that include X hours of singing and X amount of $$$ to cover your party's food. I am used to paying X amount of money for the room to sing K and ordering food/drinks a la carte, and sometimes buffet in HK, with a lower price tag as well, but hey, this is Houston and I can't complain. The second floor space it occupies has several rooms you can book depending on group size and preference. When I went with a group of twelve, the medium room was just right for us. Their food and drinks were okay, nothing spectacular but then nothing horrible either. Our spread included items like curry fishballs (good like street food in HK), cold sliced octopus (spicy and chewy), deep fried calamari rings (nicely salted and bouncy), Chinese sausage claypot rice (good flavor but a little dry), roasted pork (nice crispy skin and good balance of fatty and lean), crispy chicken (pretty solid and crispy skin), seafood fried noodles (nothing special, sort of bland), deep fried taro with salted egg yolk (very salty and taro is block-like...too hard), Japanese egg tofu (nicely fried outside and smooth inside), walnut shrimp (too much mayo and batter), and several iced/hot lemon teas/waters (really bland and watered down). The variety of Canto/Mandarin songs are quite vast and cover most female, male, boy band/girl band, and duo songs from the 1990s to the modern day. Think Jacky Cheung, FIR, SHE, Twins, Justin Lo, Eason Chan, A-Lin, Hacken Lee, Joey Yung, Miriam Yeung, GEM, Janice Wei, etc. There are also international singers like Yui, Wondergirls, Avril Lavigne, etc...you get the idea. Service is efficient but sometimes just need to remind the staff to bring out your drinks. There is also no remote for song selection and you have to get up and walk to the screen to choose/skip every song. I also didn't notice if there was a function to raise or lower the key for those who need to utilize that option to take the spotlight. In general, its okay. I think its the only place that does the ktv rooms and serve for big or small parties. They have 2 ways for pricing on these rooms, 1) price per room per hour or 2) price of food with give you a certain amount of ktv sing time. I don't know the exact price or time as another person in our party was in charge of it, however I do know that is the different ways. We sang for 6 hrs, but one of my friend said, we technically could have stayed another 2 hrs. (Just to give you an idea, with 8 people, including singing, food, tax, automatic 18% tip, we paid $40 each) For KTV - the songs are quite up to date! I saw a lot of new songs. The software is just okay. We had a hard time adjusting the right mic volume/echo to music. There's an option to adjust the keys, but it doesn't work. The MV are all good! All either authentic MV or video of artist's live performances. FYI, the software is in simplified Chinese. Also, there's no remote, so if you want to skip song or choose songs, you have to get up and go to the screen by the door. The room has dimming lights and disco lights you can use if you choose to. For food - the food here I can only say it was just okay. Nothing special. We order quite a bit of food, and there was not a single item I find worth mentioning. But hey, since the main thing is to sing here, I just find food to fill my stomach. Overall, great fun way to spend with friends! read more

New pretty cool karaoke restaurant and lounge. Service is cool and food is ok. I'm here to check out the full bar lol. I like the private room for food and drinks plus the front open area. I had the shark fin soup with crab for $29 which I don't think it's real shark fin and the salt and pepper soft shell crab is a bit too salty. I still give it 4 star because I know it can be better with the food and $7 for a shot of privilege is definitely a plus. We were looking for a new place for a group karaoke night, this place was new so we wanted to give it a try. Rooms are cutely named after Houston 'hoods, service was excellent, we were always checked on. We didn't get a chance to try the food because we ate before coming but the room next to us had a feast and we spied a little bit and it looked pretty bombdotcom. We ordered a bottle of vodka and a few mixers and then attempted to use the song selection system...if you don't have a Chinese speaker in the group its pretty tricky. The screen on the wall is in Chinese and that's how you queue up all the songs, it's kind of a challenging system because of the language and its difficult to search for specific songs or artists tbh. If you are a group with somebody who knows the language you'll have a better go at it. Also, we were pretty surprised that they charged us $14 per mixer. All we ordered was club soda, some OJ and cranberry juice, I wouldn't have minded if they were actually charging us for canned or bottled mixers but to charge that much for fountain mixers seems a little ridiculous. Regardless we still had a decent time and needed the escape post-Harvey. Would return to try the food for sure. read more

We've noticed this place a few times while in the shopping center and always wanted to check it out, just wasn't ever sure if it was open because it always looked dead. It was when we walked in as well, but there were some parties going on in the back. That's probably where most business comes from. Not sure why though, this place is great! Some of the reviews say bad service, and just ok food but we found both to be exceptional. I believe Carmen was our server and she was very friendly. I've been going to Neway for years. Before it moved to Dunhuang Plaza, it was called K100 and sitting by Beltway 8. I remember the first time discovering a karaoke that also offers dining I was thrilled. And the food was up to the standard of a fine Chinese restaurant. After their relocation, the venue definitely got an upgrade. It's more modern and a lot fancier. With that being said, their price kept competitive. It's still my favorite choice for a dinner/karaoke night out. The food: You could expect a pretty decent dinner here. From Peking duck to short ribs, their menu offers a wide range of selections. I do wish they can expand their drink menu a bit. Food portion is generous. We've always been fed well if each person of the party just orders one dish. The karaoke: We all know why we are here. Being a semi-professional musician, the quality of their karaoke system satisfies me. Their sound system provides a pretty balanced bass-treble mix. And personally, I like the amount of reverb they have set by default. You can adjust the soundtrack volume and the mic volume separately. The karaoke system has a very large pool of songs. I have been with a wide range of friends in various age groups and they are all able to pick their songs with no problem. The system also supports English interface so my non-Chinese friends can help themselves pick their songs with ease. The price: Simply you pick a room, there's a minimum spending requirement. Good news is, you can pay for your food and drinks and it's counted into the spending requirement. Every time we order a proper dinner there, the minimum spending requirement is met. So I see it that we just pay for our dinner and karaoke comes for free :) You may also choose to sit in the open lounge area. I think the price model for that is a minimum hourly spending requirement. Usually when we have two three friends, we will go with this option. Buying a couple of beers and enjoy a free karaoke session. The service: Hands down the most friendly staff in all the karaokes in Houston. They are very proactive and keep our dining tables clean.
