This spot definitely has more of a local, laid-back feel. The surrounding area was a bit rough, with quite a few homeless people nearby, but once inside, the vibe was actually really cool and relaxed. The food was a highlight! I ordered the California omelette and it was absolutely delicious. The hot chai was also really good, and we tried the Cookie Monster smoothie--which was such a fun and tasty treat. Service was a bit on the mediocre side, but the quality of the food and the unique vibe inside still made it a worthwhile visit. read more

I spent the morning today here with the New Break team, and boy do I feel like family! I never typically have breakfast or coffee in Ocean Beach, but decided to give it a shot and so grateful that I did. Definitely gonna be a new favorite of mine. I loved the breakfast. Carne de burrito and my partner had the Greek omelette, from the barista suggestions. The coffee is excellent, and the environment is so sweet. How cool it's been open for 30+ years too.. Ordered the chicken pesto panini and OB smoothie. Both were delicious! The panini was perfect: warm, crispy on the outside with just the right amount of melty cheese and flavorful pesto inside. The smoothie was refreshing for the hot weather. read more

Previous to this visit I only would get coffee to go. This time we sat and ate too. My husband and I split the frittata. Totally enough for 2 and I recommend it. Our friend got a wrap and a sandwich and the each took half home. Most importantly was the fabulous service. Everyone was super polite and accommodating. I never realized how dog friendly San Diego establishments were and Newbreak cafe was one of them. Definitely a popular restaurant for dine in or take away. There are even seats directly outside the venue if you wanted to enjoy the weather. Judging by the traffic this place is a local favorite. The menu has a lot to choose from. Sadly no pancakes (I overhead a parent request them for a child) but so many great alternatives that will still leave you feeling satisfied. There's plenty of seating inside. You do order at the register and then seat yourself and the staff will bring the food to your table if dining in. I'd definitely give this place another visit. read more

I stumbled upon this spot because I was supposed to meet a client here, and let's just say I'll DEFINITELY be back. I tried a breakfast sandwich that they said was new, and although I can't recall the name, it was MAGNIFICENT! Fried prosciutto, fried egg, fresh spinach, and garlic aioli served on a toasted brioche bun. The service was top tier as well and all of the ladies behind the counter were pleasant. Really great experience! Had the Sunrise Sandwich - husband said it's one of the best breakfast sandwiches he's had, especially since it had sausage and bacon. I had the prosciutto hash skillet, subbed the goat cheese for mozzarella. One of the best breakfasts I've had, but I absolutely love prosciutto and you can't find that in a skillet at a lot of places. Service was solid with great recommendations and very friendly. I come here for coffee, not to be bothered by other customers. This morning I was trying to order, but another customer cut me off, hovered around, and even lingered after ordering. The staff didn't step in or manage the situation, which left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. A café should create a space where customers can enjoy their drinks without dealing with that kind of behavior. Unfortunately, this location doesn't. read more

The coffee is the two stars but the experience I had with the veggie burrito was extremely unpleasant. The veggie components of the item are potatoes, mushrooms, spinach, bell pepper, onion, and tomato. Well, the pepper, onion and tomato are all diced up as though they came in a premade pico de gallo. Honestly, that's fine if that's the case. But they were completely raw. It's like whoever made it threw those in last. It's not often that I recall a meal and feel nauseous. But there's something about completely uncooked pico de gallo getting tossed in as an afterthought with scrambled eggs. I just feel like this isn't even a complaint as much as it's a note to please sweat your veggies before tossing the eggs on and prepare what's on your menu correctly. read more

Stopped in for a bagel breakfast sandwich while in San Diego for vacation. Found this spot on Apple Maps when looking for bagels and menu had a decent offering. My breakfast sandwich was really good, but it took over 25 minutes to come out and when it finally did, it came out wrong. Unfortunately I got it to go an did not realize until I had already left. Ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on a plain bagel and paid an extra $2 for avocado. When I opened my sandwich up, it was on a sesame bagel and was missing the avocado. Pretty disappointing since I had paid extra for the avocado, and the receipt that was stapled to the bag had said plain bagel and avocado. Another person in my group asked for o tomato on their bagel sandwich and still received tomato. Overall sandwich was good, but not worth the 27 minute wait or the lack of attention to order requests/details. read more
