One of my favorite coffee shops inside the Catamaran resort. I come here frequently because I walk a lot around the bay and then I love to get my cappuccino in a very upscale environment because why not live the rich life. They are always super nice baritas, coffee is great and prices are actually affordable considering this is inside a resort. You can sit at their patio, the lobby of the hotel facing the gorgeous waterfalls and plants or wander around the wonderful Catamaran resort coffee in hand. read more

I stopped by here while taking a walk around Mission Bay for a quick coffee break. I went for my standard drink, a latte with a little bit of cinnamon. The a girl working there was very nice and had my drink made quickly. Nothing wrong with her making of the drink, it was hot and the milk was frothed perfectly, but the beans tasted kind of basic. You pay a premium in a place like this and the quality was just OK. The coffee shop is located tucked into a corner of the lobby of the Catamaran Hotel. The hotel itself looks nice, but you can tell it's old and it's stuffy and a little musty in there. read more

Located in the Catamaran hotel, this is a great little coffee bar. They open at 6 AM which is perfect for early risers or if you have an early flight. The main restaurant in the hotel doesn't open until 7 AM so Lava Java helps you get a jump on the day. I went very basic with a plain coffee and toasted bagel, but they have plenty of other things to choose from. My friends had Chai tea and they said it was great. My coffee and bagel were great. We were on vacation staying at the Catamaran Resort. The Lava Java is located on the first floor of the main building where you check in. The last time we were here, they were doing construction. Now that the Lava Java are open, we decided to check it out. They sell coffees, lattes, juices, waters, muffins, pasteries, salads, and more! Yep, it's a little pricey. However, this is a vacation resort.... The people working here are awesome! We were greeted with a smile! The ladies were very patient and helpful. We ordered a couple of lattes and muffins. On July 13th my wife and I were staying at the catamaran hotel. It was my birthday so I wanted to treat myself to a good cup of coffee. I'm alway a bit nervous about going to new shops but I have to say, the young ladies behind the counter did a great job! Barista's were welcoming and the coffee was great! Lava Java is the coffee shop at Catamaran Resort. It's a convenient place where you can get specialty coffees and other drinks, snacks, breakfast sandwiches, and light lunch items. We needed a quick breakfast and had coffee, breakfast sandwiches and pastries, and everything was pretty good; comparable to Starbucks. The employees are nice and efficient and the line moves quickly. You can grab it to go or sit on a little patio outside. I would give it a little bit above 4 if I could. read more

This is a really nice coffee shop inside the Cataraman Resort. They've surprisingly got a lot to offer outside of coffees too. You can get whole breakfasts and lunches if you just needed something cheap, and quick to grab and go. I recommend the vanilla latte! Perfect without needing anything extra. I've mostly just had breakfast so their bagels, blueberry scones and breakfast burritos were all very tasty. Service is quick and friendly. Never really a line neither. No wait. And it's right next to the souvenir shop so you can grab more of what you don't need but do need! read more

So flavorful. Enjoyed the almond latte with almond milk, unsweetened. My partner got a regular latte and it was just as yummy. There was only 2 staff working and though the guy kept asking the order taker what she wrote, wait was not too bad. Very convenient as it's located in our hotel. Came in here today around 12pm, there was a little line but two lady behind the counters quickly handled it. I got a coffee, croissant and a smoothie. Total: $18 with the tips. A little bit pricy but everything was delicious. They are also dog friendly, it's a bonus. Before I went to Cafe 20/20 and the owner was so rude, so I was really happy to meet polite staff at Lava Java. read more

Lava Java may be in a hotel lobby but it's definitely not "mediocre hotel coffee". No right minded person would ever scowl at this cup of joe because it's by far the best coffee I've ever had and I've had it all over the world! Even the iced coffee is top notch and it doesn't come in a 'child size' cup like many inferior places serve. The employees are highly efficient coffee professionals and are very pleasant to speak with on a wide range of topics, from nihilism to applied physics. Tried ordering a smoothie (Friday 7/9) and was given push back by the two workers saying they had to go get all the things to make it. Mind you they were open at 7am and this was at 10am (for three hrs they had been open). The two women said it would take them 2 hrs to go get the things to make a smoothie. You can bet during our entire stay we never went there again. Horrible service; the place was a mess behind the counter; and what laziness to tell a hotel guest it will take two hrs to go grab from the kitchen fridge all the smoothie ingredients! The workers ruined my morning this morning. I wanted a coffee and a pastry. The guy took my order. I ordered dark roast coffee AND medium roast coffee. The guy asked me what size I said medium. The lady handed me the cups "here's your two medium roast coffee" I told he my order was one dark and one medium coffee. They both looked at each other and the guy told me "we only serve medium dark roast here" there's nothing like that on their menu. The lady looked at him happily as if he had saved the day and asked him if he needs anything because she wants to go. The pastries were dry and old I wish if they were warmed up. The two workers were rude. The resort is nice and I have enough stress I came here to relief my stress not to deal with rude people and treats me as if I am stupid because I understood exactly what we're they talking about. read more

Such a nice cafe in the Catamaran! They have a nice variety of hot and cold drinks as well as food options. My sister had the americano and loved it. We also had the yogurt parfait and blueberry muffin. I liked the muffin but the parfait had too much granola and not enough yogurt in it. I had the Greene smoothie and it was delicious! I especially loved that they use paper straws instead of plastic ones!!! read more

The coffee and bagel was okay. They refused to fill my coffee, forcing me to take a disposable claiming it's against health department rules (it's not). Then my bagel was served in styrofoam. These guys need to get with the program! read more
