An outstanding tiki bar, very happy one has come to the SCV. Staff is great, take good care of you but not the overly interruptive. The drinks are spot on, the bartenders know what they are doing with a tiki drink. And as expected, they have the classics and their own spins so plenty of options as you'd expect. The food is delicious. I had the loco moco and it was one of the top 2 or 3 loco moco's I've ever tried, the gravy and hamburger patty were something special. Fallen Trident is a much-needed non-chain dining experience in Santa Clarita. I really appreciate that they are trying to provide something different for the community, with a fun experience elevated above the usual local restaurant or bar. That said, it feels like they are still working the bugs out. We had a two-top right inside the entrance. I got a seat facing all the cool theming and tiki ambience. My wife's seat was facing the almost blank, black wall at the front of the restaurant. The talking pirate was cool, but completely unintelligible when he spoke, due to the music and background noise. There was a flash of lightning and roar of thunder around the top of the hour, but that was it... we thought it was going to start some kind of brief show. The food was good. We both had the filet, and it was well-cooked, tender, and nicely seasoned, if a bit on the thin side for a filet. The dish came with WAY too much rice, and shishito peppers, as delicious as they were. It was almost like they cooked too much by accident and just dumped it on our plate. A comical amount. But as I said, delicious. The drinks were solid. The server mixed our drink order up, and gave my wife and I each other's drinks... but after tasting them, we decided to keep the wrong drinks, as we each liked the other drink more. The drink menu leans heavily on rum (after all, it is a tiki bar), but I would have liked to see a little more variety/imagination. I followed up dinner with a flight of the Appleton rums. Interesting, but not as exciting as a flight of bourbon or Scotch. While each did have its own flavor and character, it was not enough to make me think, "Wow, I'm glad I tried that!" The service was competent. Very pleasant and efficient. Everything arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and we were checked on regularly. If the management stays on it, this could become a cherished SCV destination, but it still needs some tweaks to really shine. I hope they will stick to it. read more

This place is fun, but it feels a little too performative to become the kind of restaurant you return to regularly. It's 21+, yet the décor and overall vibe feel like something you'd encounter immediately before or after riding Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland--dark, nautical, vaguely "under the sea," just without the singing crab. You even enter through dark curtains and wait for the big reveal of the interior, which is amusing the first time but also feels like they're trying very hard to create an experience. The menu reinforces that this is really more of a drinking establishment with food than a restaurant proper. Probably two-thirds of it is devoted to drinks, with mostly appetizers and a handful of mains, many of which could easily be shared. We tried the poke nachos, coconut shrimp, shishito peppers and loco moco. The food itself wasn't bad at all. Everything was enjoyable enough, with a vaguely tropical-inspired menu, although there's not actually much that feels tropical about the place. It markets itself as a tiki bar, but I wouldn't really call it tiki. Service, on the other hand, was genuinely very good. Our servers were attentive, and the hostess was extremely accommodating. No complaints whatsoever there. Overall, it's a cool place to check out, particularly for drinks and some nosh with friends. But the concept relies so heavily on novelty that I'm not sure what brings you back after you've experienced it once or twice. This particular location has already been several things--a restaurant, brewery, wine bar--and unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if a year from now it's something else again. Worth experiencing? I would've went down to 3 stars but I decided to bump it up. It wasn't a bad experience but it was just a bummer. We booked this at 10 pm on a Friday night on the OpenTable app maybe about 1 week early. We wanted to check this place out since we're gonna be in the area playing some escape rooms. Since we love tiki bars it was perfect to find this place in the same area. We arrived around 950 and we were seated right away. The host says the kitchen closed 5 minutes ago and that made our hearts sink. We were looking forward to trying out the menu and we didn't get to. We drove from Anaheim so coming back wouldn't be anytime soon. We decided to order a drink and head out for food. I ordered the Berry Smash and it was really good. Definitely felt smashed afterwards. Visited SCVs latest new restaurant The Fallen Trident. Celebrating a friends birthday with some light appetizers and a whole bunch of drinks. She is a major tiki fan so it was a no brainer to try this place out. It seems that it has only been open for a few months so it's definitely getting its feet underneath itself as a business. With it being so new there are obviously going to be some growing pains but any issues we encountered the staff took care of them which is always great. The decor feels a little forced but I'm thinking it just feels new and that will soon become old hat (no puns intended). The service was GREAT our server was GREAT. We were waited on by Jianna and her recommendations as well as descriptions were all spot on and appreciated. The pot stickers were delish. The deviled eggs were lighter than southern deviled eggs and delish. The tempura green beans were snappy and flavorful. The wings were sticky and spicy if you bit into the little jalapeños on them. A few people tried the loco moco and the ahi steak and each person was pleased. I can say we may have tried half of the drinks on the menu. Take your pick and find your flavor. My favorite ended up being the Lrrrr-Lrrrr. This will be a nice go to spot for rum cocktails. Prices aren't too bad. I can say that my one recommendation is that the music was not on point. It's a tiki bar. They would have been better off playing a jimmy buffet record all night. Whatever they were playing did not give tiki bar vibes. I'm sure that will change with time. Santa Clarita has a tiki and it's.... Well...."It's okay", for most casual Tiki goers, but not great. It's the Tiki Bar that plays it safe and will scratch that itch-- plain and simple. Come here for the tiki vibe and maybe a buzz. However--the service here is actually really attentive and professional. I actually think the staff here is pretty great. The Tiki Bartenders are sarcastic and the waiters are polite and friendly. Great vibe! The drinks! So the best one was actually the Jet Pilot! We tried several drinks and some were better than others. Some were too dry on the pallet while others were very sweet. The Navy Grog was strong as expected as well, but not a winner either. (This information is mainly for Seasoned Tiki Bar Goers.) Overall, the drinks are fine. No special flashy drink presentations. Just tiki glass drinks. Which is all well and good. The food is probably the "could be better" for me. I had the Fish and it wasn't bad but there was NO flavor and their spicy sauce was the only flavor I could add to it. The Loco Moco was alright as well, but it wasn't bad. The rice was also very plain and didn't really complement the fish either. I am a little disappointed on the culinary front... don't come here for the food. The vibe of the Tiki Bar is pretty on bar with many Tiki Bar vibes with occasional sound fx and sounds with some slight flashing lights to go with it. It's a cute tiki vibe that one can escape into with a smile. This area is done well! Overall, it's a Tiki Bar that I would label as Good! Not great but it's fine. This is an optimistic 3 stars for me as I really want this place to be great and they put so much work into the design and atmosphere which, on its own, deserved 5 stars. But we were there for food and drinks and our experience with those items wasn't what we'd hoped for. Full disclusure, we were there 2 days after they opened, so you can take the 3-star rating and our assessment as opening week bumps, and with a grain of salt. Bump in the road one in our visit - We had a reservation, but they seated as at a table awkwardly close to the entrance...we asked to move further in at any of the other open tables (there were a lot of them) and it involved a lengthy conversation with management...we eventually got to move one table further in. Subsequent people who were seated at that first able also asked to move. Hot-top: Reserve the high tops up against the walls...less traffic-y and you'll feel like you're actually in the restaurant. Bump in the road two - I'm a vegetarian, which means I always have to check out menus in advance, and I was excited they offered several vegetarian versions of their dishes (subbing tofu as a protein). Though when looking at the printed menus, none of those items were there, and our server wasn't aware of them. So extra time was involved communicating with the kitchen to make sure we could get what we wanted. Again, the place was brand new so I assume more than a month into it, they probably have that part together. They may have fixed this, too, but the menus were actually very hard to read in the dark and were assembled with a complicated three-ring system with hard boards surrounding the menu papers, which made them really difficult to open, and me living in fear I was going to tear pages out. Really unique, but impractical design for a physical menu. Food and drinks...It's a tiki bar, so this was their chance to really win and make me forget all my troubles. I ordered the 1944 Mai Tai - The server wanted to clarify it wasn't a resort-style super-sweet Mai Tai, but one based on the original recipe. No problem! I've made the original recipe myself at home, and that's what I wanted. What I got was kind of diluted without much discernible rum flavor in it, and it was disappointing. My wife ordered the Privateer, which she liked a lot. (I had a couple sips and also thought it was good.) The manager on duty (maybe one of the owners) came by the table to talk about the cocktail menu and gave some promising details about how it was going to expand significantly. I'm definitely going to come back and see what they've done, as I deeply feel a successful Tiki Bar in Santa Clarita is what we all need. And I also appreciate what seemed like a very sincere effort on their part to make a place that's amazing, from the overall ambiance to the food. The decor is outstanding. They clearly spared no expense making the details of what you see and hear in there part of the experience. We were there for dinner and got 3 dishes suitable for our vegetarian diets...Tempura Green Beans (over-fried...not much green bean texture or flavor left), Leviathan Garden Potstickers (also very over-fried and, more of a personal preference, but I just didn't like the flavor compared to potstickers I've had at other places.), and Pineapple Fried Rice with Tofu...this was really good...I could have eaten a lot more though the dish was relatively small so the value for what we got seemed low.) Again, we were there just a couple days after they opened...they clearly have put their heart and soul into the look and feel of the place...my fingers are crossed that these were just opening week-bumps which may have already been resolved, and we will definitely give it another shot with fingers crossed. read more

Amazing ambiance. The Fallen Trident is a must do experience in downtown Newhall. The sultry surroundings of the sunken ship themed dining room are well apportioned. It is evident that a lot went into the planning and execution of the reworking of this space. From the lantern fish glass buoy lamps to the wooden plank covered wall there is a lot to take in. Laci gave us great service. She checked back with us several times throughout our experience without being a bother. She wore a smile and was witty. The food runners delivered our items in an extremely quick manner and all items were as ordered. Food was tasty and well presented. Crab Rangoon actually had great flavor and you can taste the crab. Coconut Shrimp was good as well. The deviled eggs were the best appetizer we had. Very yummy. The pineapple rice with pork belly was very good and presented in a ring of pineapple. I am only giving these stars to all of the staff at The Fallen Trident and Pocock Public Brewing House. They were trying their best but this is definitely a management/ownership issue!!! This review is for both establishments as they seem to be entwined in the same building. Much chaos on who could enter, who had reservations for which place, and who could not go into the elevator. Definitely due to overlap of this place. With that said...we were excited about a Tiki joint in SCV as the valley is full of chains. The Fallen Trident...a new Tiki place that will only take reservations. I finally got a reservation at 10:30 pm on a Saturday. We entered. Not impressive. Small, cheap "Tiki" decor. Okay. Let's look at the drink and dinner menu. Seemed enticing and was looking forward to trying the fare. We were seated at a table but were immediately told the kitchen was closed and we could only order drinks. So why did I set a reservation and was seated at a table if drinks were the only option? The bar was empty and we could have walked in hours ago for a cocktail and ate elsewhere. It made no sense! Pretentious! The drinks....ummmm.....wont return. So much ice, mint, lime, etc that you actually only get a shot of the Tiki drink you asked for $14-22 each. We can't review any food as we weren't given that option from 8pm-10:30pm at either place. Overall this place is a fun spot in Newhall. From the moment I walked in it smelled like the ocean and definitely went along with the theme. The staff was great, very helpful and attentive. We sat at the bar and ordered a bunch of appetizers. The food was good, it didn't stand out as the best food ever but I enjoyed the meal. My only complaint was it was very hard to get a reservation and they don't allow walk ups but when we got there over half of the restaurant sat empty. Checked this place out after seeing it show up online. Love the decor. Super cool vibe. There's a story behind it which I like. (Don't recall seeing that at other tiki bars) Only down side for the decore is where we were sitting I ended up with my back to most of it (we were by the door) I had to turn around to really see it everything, so for me it was harder to feel fully immersed. Other tables however were more in and would have a better view of it all. We got a couple drinks each. I started with the navy grog. If you don't like strong drinks I'd pass on this one. It's not playing. Good, but definitely a sipper. (I'm no light weight and it took me some time to finish and started getting me buzzed) Next up was the 1944 mai tai. Good, but not your modern day fruity mai tai. So if that's what you're looking for, I'd try another fruity cocktail they offer. Waitress was attentive and checked on very regularly. I very much enjoyed my time at the Fallen Trident this weekend. Service impeccable. Open 5 weeks. Atmosphere tiki. Not overly saturated, I liked the details with the barnacles on the back of the chairs, the decorated walls and ceiling, and lamps. It looked like the inside of a ship with portholes which I thought was super cool. There were also "monster fish skulls" along the walls. Neat. Music: some Exotica, some classical, some Austin Powers. I'm more of a purist and like to hear only Tikiesque music in that setting, but they are adhering to the mixed, local crowd as well. Can't fault them for that. The music was a nice touch either way. Sashimi peppers were good. I liked that they mixed them with edamame and garlic. I'm used to a little more searing but it was still tasty. I did add salt though, which was an easy fix. Mai Tai was proper. Not too complex, a little dry. Possibly needs a tad more orgeat for balance. By the way the only juice in an original 1944 Mai Tai is lime. For the people who might used to more of a resort style Mai Tai, the good news is the owner said they will be adding one to the menu soon. It will be similar to the fruity versions, and I believe he said it would have a float. Although I was two drinks in and the drinks are stiff so don't quote me on that. Definitely money will spent. The Zombie was decent, balanced and not too sweet. The cinnamon stick garnish was a nice touch. I gave them a suggestion to light the cinnamon stick on fire, and they said they are working on a new drink with a lit stick! We came here for the first time for ladies night on Thursday. Without any expectations, I was mesmerized of how the decor and ambience of this place. It's a little tight, but they make good of all the spaces. The food was delicious though there are only limited options - no chicken dish. The cocktails though are amazing. I only tried one version of their cocktails and it was delicious. The food very tasty very well presented, and the staff specially, our waitress. She was very nice and very accommodating. After waiting a month for our schedules to line up, my group finally went to the Fallen Trident. This is such a unique bar to have in Santa Clarita. The ambiance was such a nice, chill vibe. While we did only have a two hour limit (it's currently tightly reservation only) we never felt rushed. We had a variety of cocktails that we all enjoyed. A special shout out to Danny McAlpine for the creation of the Lrr-Lrr cocktail. That was a favorite of our group. The bartender was very condescending toward me when I asked what kind of beer they had. I didn't get her name, but I believe she may have been the head bartender, as I saw her directing the other bartenders before she left. I specifically asked if they had any specialty beers because the menu had several themed specialty cocktails, so I assumed they might offer specialty or unique beer options as well, especially since there was an entire row of taps behind the bar. When I asked, she responded with, "What do you mean? Specialty? I don't know what you mean. What kind of beer do you want?" with a bitchy look on her face... I understand that my question may not have been worded perfectly, but the way she responded made me feel like I was being talked down to rather than simply having my question answered. I was genuinely just confused and trying to understand what beer options they had. There was an entire row of taps behind the bar, but none of them were labeled, no one mentioned any beer options when we arrived, and there were no beer options listed on the menu. After going back and forth with her, she eventually explained that the taps were Pocock's beers, since the brewery is located upstairs. A simple explanation of the available options would have been completely fine, but unfortunately, her attitude made the interaction unnecessarily unpleasant and ultimately affected my overall experience. Really good atmosphere with low light ambiance. I love tiki bars and therefore I scrutinize if it sucks. This one was good! Lots of good tiki drinks, I tried nearly all the appetizers, the main courses need a rework. The pepper app and ahi nachos are the star appetizers, LrrLrr is a unique drink to the establishment. Drinks: Ive had about 1/3 of the menu by now on multiple visits. They are well garnished, measured and classic. With some twists on the classic tiki. Not too boozy but not too light. Mai tai is ok, passes for decent mai tai. I want to try the bitter mai tai next visit. Food: The main courses need a full rework. They feel like appetizers but with rice. The flavor profiles are decent but for 25$ I got a bowl or rice with barely any pork belly mixed inside. I basically paid $25 for rice inside a pineapple Their burger is good with the egg on top, again just a patty over rice. The good thing is the appetizers, they have a very good spread of different items and moods. If its a main course give me main course portions please, and not just extra rice. Ambiance: Really cool and fun tiki atmosphere. Low light, fun decor, amazing for a date night. I noticed its not too cluttered either, which I can't tell of I like or not. Tiki bars are usually cluttered with tiki items, this one's got a tad bit of an upscale tiki feel to it because its got a clean look. Service: Didnt wait too long for my drinks the second visit. They had two nice bartenders on a Thursday which is a good sign. Anyone who knows tiki bars knows you wait longer for drinks because of the many steps involved in each drink. Tonight was my first visit to The Fallen Trident, and I've got nothing but nice things to say! The drinks were delicious! I personally tried the Lrr-Lrr and the Berry Smash and both were excellent in different ways. We ordered the ahi poke nachos, and those were fantastic. We also shared the potstickers, and split the filet mignon. The potstickers were sweet and a little spicy, and the filet was perfectly seasoned and cooked. All of the staff were super nice and welcoming. What a great dinner spot, and an honestly refreshingly different addition to Main Street cuisine! Drinks were great, ambience was awesome. Sit at the high tops near the bar if possible. Appetizers are where it's at - the kraken wings, deviled eggs, and poke nachos (best I've ever had). They should provide wet naps with the wings though, as they are very sticky. The downfall was when we ordered the filet. It was smothered in an overly salty sauce and the steak itself tasted like a microwaved hungry man Salisbury steak. When our server asked how it was, we were honest and her only resolution was suggesting that next time we order it without the sauce. We didn't take more than a bite of the food after we discovered how awful it was and there was zero compensation or offering of a way to make our experience better. Overall, we enjoyed the food, drinks, and ambience, but I would suggest sticking to drinks and apps, skip the steak. All that said we will be back! read more
