I had a very disappointing experience with this establishment. To begin with, the pizza was overpriced and, in my opinion, mid at best. The quality simply did not justify the price, and it was already a topic of discussion at the table before the billing issue arose. What was far more concerning, however, was discovering that the tip amount on my credit card transaction had been increased by more than $10 after the charge was authorized. When I questioned the charge, the merchant acknowledged that the tip amount had been changed. Regardless of the reason, customers should be able to trust that the amount they authorize including the tip, is the amount that appears on their credit card statement. The difficulty I encountered in trying to resolve the issue only added to my frustration. Based on my experience, I would recommend carefully reviewing both your receipt and your credit card statement after visiting. read more

Last night (Saturday), my wife and I came back for date night. We had already eaten and planned to just grab drinks... but the smell of the pizza changed our plans. We're self-proclaimed pizza connoisseurs. I take my pizza seriously -- at home I work on perfecting my dough and sauce to make both true New York-style and Buenos Aires-style pies. My barber had also been telling me for a while that this place is legit. He even met the owner and said he's incredibly passionate about every detail that goes into making a great pizza. After finally trying it, I get it. We ordered a plain cheese with basil, and it was outstanding. A true New York-style pie. The dough had the perfect texture, the underside had that beautiful leopard spotting, the sauce-to-cheese ratio was dialed in, and the cheese was clearly high quality. We finished the whole thing without hesitation. The vibe is super cool. My wife kept saying she couldn't believe we were still in Santa Clarita -- it felt more like being over the hill in WeHo. Service was great too. Our waitress, Amber, was friendly and attentive. And to those complaining about the no-modifications rule -- trust the process. Third time at Society Pizza Lounge and it's grown on me for the quality of the food and drink. Every cocktail I've had here, albeit quite pricey, has been delicious. This time around it was the Society Toasted Rum Cocktail. They really know what they're doing n terms of creating delicious cocktails that are well mixed and balanced. We also got "Mark's Pie" - I mentioned in my original review that the NYC slices they were serving were pretty good but not my favorite in town, but the true star in their pizza game are these unique pie creations. Mark's Pie was a vegetarian feast, quite hearty and with all kinds of unique flavors in it that my wife and I loved. Is it a pizza parlor or a lounge? And a whole pie being 30+ is a bit criminal in this economy. Nevertheless tried the following two pies: Vodka margherita: 6.5/10 - there's nothing margherita about it. Literally vodka pizza with basil. Flavor was there. No tomatoes. No mozz. Crust was good. Undercarriage on the first bite was awful. Everything slides off. The spicy salamino: 5/10. Every topping slides right off when you bite and the roof of my mouth is still burnt from how hot the pie was. Ambiance: not sure what they're trying to present. A lounge, a sports bar? A parlor? Service: very friendly and great. No notes here. Probably won't come back. Giving them the benefit of the doubt as they just opened, but needs a lot of work. read more

Gosh, I really wanted to like this place. And honestly, the food is pretty good. Why I only gave it one star? Because the service is horrific and the drinks are overpriced. Our less than qualified server spent more time chatting with the customers than paying attention to our table and realizing that she had forgotten to bring one of our guests drinks, for like 15 minutes. When she brought my drink to me, she spilled it all over my leg. She knew what she had done and did not apologize. Instead, she just handed me an extra napkin. We had a party of six and we spent almost $500. It was a surprise to us when our server presented our bill and she had added an automatic 20% gratuity. Apparently they consider parties of six to be "large parties" and the gratuity is automatically added. No wonder why she didn't step up on the service, she was going to get paid no matter what! Then, when we gave her our credit cards (three couples split) she told us that "Management does not allow us to split checks three ways." Huh??? We dine out quite often in this community, and we have never run into an issue like that. A couple other things that I'd like to note, 1. Two unisex restrooms for a large busy bar is not enough. There was a line pretty much most of the evening. 2. Bus the tables throughout the meal. Letting dishes and glasses pile up in between courses is not professional. 3. Let your customers modify the pizzas if they want to. We were told by the server that we were not allowed to change not one thing on any of the pizzas other than the cheese pizza. I think that's a little unreasonable. 4. For goodness sakes, bring in some linen napkins! If you want to present yourself as a classy place, and charge the prices that you are charging, you cannot use paper napkins. It's a turn off. At the end, all six of us have agreed that we will not go back. Just goes to show that it's not always about the food! read more

My boyfriend and I went into this restaurant for the first time. It was a Thursday.. not even more than 10 heads in the restaurant... we asked if we could talk with the chef just to see if we could make changes to something because of my allergies and we wanted to make sure we were respectful.. we introduced ourselves and said we are sorry to ask, but is there anyway we could order something off the menu but modified and the chef Tony so rudely looked at my boyfriend and said no and walked away without even asking or hearing us out on my allergies. Don't get me wrong saying no is OK but handle yourself with more hospitality and use your manners. After a few minutes (and while my boyfriend stepped away to use the restroom) I approached the chef and let him know that I wish he would've handled himself better .. I told him it was unprofessional the way he handled it, and it was just simply because I had allergies that he didn't even bother to hear out .. I then asked if he could just apologize to my boyfriend for being so rude.. chef Tony then laughed and said no that's not gonna happen and turned away and walked away again. Already being irritated we decided to just sit and finish our drinks before we made our way out, enjoying our conversation with one of the bartenders... the final straw was watching a shattered glass over ice get thrown away and instead of using caution and being safe and burning the ice.. we watched the bartenders continue to shovel the ice into the glasses, unaware if there was shattered glass in the ice itself. I am not one that enjoys to complain, but this was pretty bad and extremely disappointing. The place is a new spot, and you can see they're always adding new things. The drinks are fantastic--the Old Fashioned and Blackberry Margarita are standouts. The staff is another highlight; they're friendly, energetic, and great at interacting with customers. While we haven't been there for a jazz night yet, the DJ was great. I've seen some complaints about a lack of customization, and while I understand wanting what you want, I also appreciate a chef's vision. It's clear they hand-pick ingredients, as seen when the eggplant wasn't available on our second visit. I'd much rather have a great meal with fresh ingredients than a subpar one with everything on the menu. This is a select menu, and it's worth giving them time to grow. The eggplant had too much breading, not enough veggie and overcooked. The ricotta and spinach pie was excellent. For desert, we had tiramisu in a coffee cup and a cannoli. Our party of four arrived at about 6:00 on a Saturday without reservations. The hottest was able to move some people around and got us a table. That was great and the ambiance was equally great. We were greeted by our server and told that they didn't have any Meatballs for at least on hour. That was fine, but one of only the appetizers on the menu, was Meatballs. We had other appetizers and drinks. The drinks were good but a bit pricey at $20 each. All four of us ordered different pizzas. My wife's pizza had spinach and we were told by our server, a couple minutes later, that they were out of spinach. That was fine she just had the same pizza without spinach. Three of the pizza came out around the same time but one was about 15 minutes after the other three. The service was not great. We asked our server for more napkins but never got them. As per the menu we were given, we wanted to try the desert pizza that was listed as one of the three deserts. Great, our server took our order, but came back a few minutes later to tell us that the desert pizza was no longer on the menu. The same menu they were handing out to everyone in the place. They only had the tiramisu and cannoli, but they were out of the tiramisu. We got our check and left. Not sure we will go back. read more

Our last visit we each got a drink where were great, and we tried the eggplant royale appetizer and the Steve's Pie pizza and both were delicious. The chef even came out and talked to us briefly and offered us each a slice of a deep dish pizza he was testing that he called "grandma's pie" which was amazing as well. The chef also told us about his commitment to using only organic, fresh ingredients, "farmer to table" as he called it, including supporting local businesses and farmers as much as possible which I love!
