This place is one of my favorite places to get a sandwich. It is exasctly the same every time I order and I LOVE that. (A lot of places now a days have different taste based on who is cooking). I usually order the soup and sandwich (half and half as it is listed on the menu) You pick from a list of half sandwiches and then you get to pick your bowl of soup from a list as well! My favorite is either the newk Q or the pesto. I usually end up going with the potato soup (I LOVE potato soup-lol) but I have tried the lobster bisque and the tomato basil; both were too sweet for me. The combo comes to about 12.00 with a drink, and they give you a huge 32oz cup so that you don't have to keep getting up for refills. They have a pretty sweet condiment bar that you help yourself to. There are crackers and peppers and pickles and capers and parmesan cheese and customs and definitely more than I can remember. I'm guilty of helping myself to a snak before my meal arrives. This was my first visit to Newk's, and I left impressed. My crew tried a variety of items: cheese pizza, Italian sandwich, pimento cheese sandwich, apple-spiced squash bisque, crawfish and corn soup, and lemon cake. Everything was on-point; I really liked the pizza and Italian sandwich. The squash bisque was different, but good. The pimento cheese was some serious cheese (wouldn't order it again). Wife loved the crawfish-corn soup. The lemon cake (which was free for signing up for their e-club) was moist and delicious. Also really enjoyed their condiment bar, in particular the roasted garlic, peppers, and pickles. Washed it all down with an icy-cold ORANGINA and went home happy. read more

This spicy shrimp pizza is delicious. If you need a seafood option on a Friday or anyday, this is the spot. The shrimp is perfectly seasoned and the pizza is spicy but not overdone. More often than not, I do take out at this place, so my review is for the food only - and it is legit food! Being the creature of habit that I am, I stick to the Shrimp po-boy half sandwich and the tomato soup and these are both yummy in my tummy goodness kinda dishes! I love the bread they use - always toasted to perfection. Allow yourself at least 15 minutes after ordering online, make sure you have them check and re-check your order, bec they do tend to screw it up sometimes. I've never gotten anything I didn't enjoy from Newk's which is an accomplishment most places can't claim! I order a lot of food for corporate lunches and events and the food is always fresh and with the large menu everyone can find something they like. The staff is always accommodating and friendly even with huge and complex call in and to go orders. Stand outs for me are the fire roasted tomato soup which is light and hearty all at the same time and I absolutely love the bbq pizza which I get with no meat and is amazing . The bbq sauce is that just right combination of sweet and smoky. Salads are another big hit for my office with a huge variety of fresh choices available even at the convenient Grab and Go area of the restaurant you can't go wrong getting lunch or dinner at Newk's. read more

I was so disappointed with my experience at Newks. After about 2 years of passing by and not stopping, my husband and I decided tonight was the night we would try Newks! After looking over the menu, we were super excited for some soups and sandwiches. We ordered online for a pickup order. I ordered the steak sandwich with fruit and he got the french dip with crab bisque. We also ordered macaroni and cheese, thai chicken soup and pumpkin cake. The sandwiches were sub par, and I felt like we could make our own at home that would be so much better, and not much more expensive. The fruit was brown and not fresh. The soups were ok but not my specific taste, but I could appreciate them, other than the crab one being full of crab shells. The cake said it was made on December 10 and I got it on the 22nd.. I'm no Baker but I know cake does not last that long. It was actually crunchy. Overall I am not impressed but I'm really hoping I will try it again someday. This place is a really great place to go for lunch. If you don't get there early they will be crazy busy and the food may take a little longer to come out. Those are just signs of success. I have had something different each time and have yet to be disappointed. When it comes to the sandwiches, at first glance it doesn't seem like much but once you add your additions from the pepper bar and take that first bite you now know what you have. A sandmich that is "Good Eats". Speaking of the pepper bar. I love getting the bread sticks, pickles, banana peppers, and croutons and eating them by themselves. The Spicy Chicken Pizza is awesome as well. The mac n cheese is good not great but good. However I don't like mine baked. Went into the restaurant to place a to go order. The people I came in contact with were nice. Got my order and went home. After arriving home, I noticed that our dessert was missing. I called and asked them to bring it to the car. I called at the curb and the sajud they would be right out. I have been here a few times dining in and eating out. When eating in I would say it is best not to go at lunch time during this week because this place is PACKED. Not to say that having lots of customers is a bad thing but they have table right on top of each other and you have to interrupt other diners just to get to a table. Now I would recommend the Newk's "Q" my co-worker and I get this sandwich almost every time and it is to die for. Portions are big and the staff is super friendly. Newk's is a solid addition to the Baton Rouge casual food chain scene. Sure, it's no Jason's Deli but everywhere you look, there's a smiling face ready to help. There's a great covered patio area out front for the days when the weather is nice - plus, it's a perfect place to thank your lucky stars you aren't sitting in traffic at Corporate and Jefferson. The food is nothing mind-blowing but they execute comfort food classics like macaroni and cheese, broccoli cheese soup, and grilled cheese to perfection. I also enjoy the ability to mix and match half sandwiches with a soup or side garden/Caesar salad. It allows the repeat customer to try something different each time without an overwhelming amount of food. Want to try this option? Go for the Veggie Club with gooey mozzarella combined with roasted veggies like portobellos and tomatoes and smeared with pesto and the "side" Simple Salad that's packed with even more delicious veggies. Make sure you don't skip the homemade ranch and the pickled garlic on the salad bar to complete the meal. I'll definitely be back to try some of the seafood dishes, but I'm certainly ready for the Northgate location to open so I don't have to drive as far for a weekday lunch :) read more

It wasn't too packed on a Saturday night although it was later than a normal dinner. The food was fresh and super delicious. Everyone I went with loved what they ordered. They have a nice little salad bar style island in the middle. The prices are great for the portions they give you. I've been to other Newks locations in Texas and I've always liked it. It has healthy options and a lot of salad choices. I definitely would say I like it better than Panera, Jason's deli, or La Madeline. They have booths for bigger group parties that's convenient. The food was out pretty quick. The only complaint would be they weren't quick to clean tables after people left. The price and taste of pizzas are a 5 star!! But the service and delivery dropped the rating. I've had almost 10 pizzas from here...And half forgot the basil on my Margherite pizza. Not cool, considering I find out when I get home. Yeah my bad for mot checking my pizza at pickup. But sometimes, there just isn't time. It can get crowded at Newk's. I love the pizza dough since its light and slightly crisp. Not dough-y, cooked just right. The salads are huge portions and pretty good. The sandwich I've tried is veggie, Portobello in it. Second time coming over and it's a pretty well ran establishment. Both times visiting were during peak hours and service seemed pretty efficient from ordering to getting our meals. I'm also very surprised with the amount of traffic that comes through their ability to keep the place clean, this is always a plus for me. My food was pretty decent. I had the grilled steak sandwich which was med well and had some decent flavor accompanied by horseradish sauce. My side was a 5 cheese Mac which I really enjoyed. I found that for 2 people spending $30 bucks was a little high for this place but wasn't bad. Biggest downfall is parking and seating. When it's packed it's packed and it took me a bit to find parking and a table. Overall I will continue to visit. It's a nice little change from your typical fast food establishments. read more

Absolutely FABULOUS- you truly cannot go wrong with ANYTHING on the menu. My go to's are the Turkey Breast, Newks Q, and the club. Caesar salad is also divine if you're into salads. I do not return to restaurants if i ever have a bad experience, and my family and I have newks at LEAST twice a week. We recently ordered the Mac and cheese take and bake for pickup. When we got there, the order was wrong. The manager tried to hand me a SINGLE serving of mac and cheese. I showed my order confirmation and the manager immediately runs to the back, scoops some Mac and cheese in a plastic tub, NOT a baking tray like I expected. I was also NOT given the cheese that is usually sprinkled on top of the dish to bake. I'm Extremely disappointed. I understand things are tough right now. But, 22.99 is a lot of money for only 32 ounces of Mac and cheese in a plastic tub with no cheese. There's an option for the dinner package that would have given me FOUR 14 ounce containers of Mac and cheese (54 ounces!!) PLUS a gallon of tea, PLUS 2 side salads, chicken strips and bacon bits for 25.99!!!! I am NOT going to make the mistake of ordering 32 ounces of cold pasta in a plastic tub ever again. I'm not sure if I'll even go to Newk's anymore. This is truly disheartening. read more

Newk's is always a good easy meal. I am not the best fan of chain restaurants, but the food here is always very fresh. I have two go to things that I crave very often, and that is the Newk's Que sandwich and the Newk's Favorite Salad. First the sandwich, there is something about white bbq sauce and chicken.... ummmm. I always get the half so that I can get soup or salad with it, but I instantly regret it. When you visit, go for the whole and if you can't eat it all save some for later. I would imagine that the BBQ sauce would be messy and not good to go, but I realize that they put just enough to make it taste great without the mess. Less mess makes it easier to eat on the road, so I often get this before a long ride.... it is much better than eating fast food. Now for my salad :-) I'm so happy I found this. I love a good salad with something more than cheddar cheese. This yummy goodness has Gorgonzola, nuts, chicken, fruit... you name it, it's in there. This salad is huge and absolutely amazing. I eat it at least once a week. The inside is often very empty, I wonder if people don't know about this place. I hope they find out soon, because if you live near it is always worth the trip! read more

I have mixed feelings on this restaurant and may have to give it a few more chances. I have had the pizza which was fine for a quick personal pizza. I love that they have the condiment bar in the middle that has garlic, oil, and vinegar! However, I tried the ahi tuna salad and was not a fan. Surprisingly, the tuna wasn't the biggest problem, although it honestly wasn't great. The biggest issue was the dressing. It was just unappetizing and tasty gritty. I've passed up this eatery several times and even had friends that worked there but I never stopped to actually give it a try. There were pros and cons just like there are with anything and here are some. Pros: the service was really nice. Everyone was attentive, polite, and friendly. The presentation was also really nice. The large menus at the entrance, the open kitchen area so you can see the freshness of it all, and the inside/outside dining areas were clean. Cons: unfortunately I wasn't a huge fan of what I ordered to eat. The shrimp po-boy with macncheese was pretty bland. The po boy bread was tough and the shrimp themselves were a little rubbery. The mac was pretty lifeless as well even with the bacon. Maybe there are better things on the menu but if I go back I don't think I'll be ordering a po-boy with Mac and cheese. read more

What Newk's might be missing in presentation is more than made up for in the freshness and quality of their food. My favorite thing is the Shrimp and Avocado Salad. I did like the service but the food, was something to be desired. There is no substitution for bread unless you are ordering the sandwich to go. I got the pesto chicken sandwich that comes with chips. You are only allowed to order the selected sides. I wanted to add soup and that would have cost me an arm and a leg. The sandwich is a hot sandwich. Nothing to hoot and holler about or get again. We also ordered the Newk's Q pizza which has grilled chicken breast, white BBQ sauce, applewood bacon, roma tomatoes, jalapenos, mozzarella and provolone cheese. It was different but wasn't that bad. I could get that again, but it isn't added to my frequent list. Furthermore, this place is pretty pricey, so I hope that goes over well when they open the location on campus. My boyfriend got the BBQ CHICKEN pizza. I got the Newks "Q" with a Caesar side salad (extra $2) . We also got the Pimiento Bacon Mac n Cheese. The Mac n Cheese was $6, tiny, and not at all impressive. I honestly would have rather Kraft. There was not a lot of bacon at all. I would not order this again. McAlisters side of Mac is only $1 and it's so much better. The BBQ chicken pizza was meant for one person but it's six small slices, I wouldn't be able to finish it myself but my boyfriend did. It was good except the tomatoes placed on where whole tomato slices. I wish they cut it smaller. I got the Newks Q. If you ever had the Chicken Carbonara at Quiznos it's exactly what it tastes like. It's a white BBQ sauce that tastes like a salty ranch kind of. It has shredded chicken and bacon. The Caesar salad was DA BOMB. But a little too much dressing. Overall, I love love love the bread they use for the sandwich. With everything I got, the total was $32 with two drinks....kind of pricey but next time I'll try to stick to drinking water and not getting the Mac. Id like to come again and try more sandwiches. I give it three stars because I didn't like the Mac n cheese, I didn't like the tomato size on the pizza, I didn't like the cost. However, in flavor, they seriously rule. This is one of my favorite casual dining restaurants. The ordering process is pretty straightforward and I find it very kid-friendly. My favorite item is the Black & Bleu Salad but I'm going meatless tonight so I chose the Mac & Chz - what a sacrifice, lol! Needless to say, it was delicious! I wasn't going to get a dessert but I decided to get a slice of Coconut Cake for me and a slice of Caramel Cake for my husband and me to take home after the kiddies went to bed. What a treat! It's a step above Panera bread, and they have a great condiment bar and also very good iced tea. It reminds me of a nicer Jason's deli. My niece got the grilled cheese and she didn't eat much bc of the thick hard bread so I would recommend pizza for kids. I'd like to try the salads, they looked pretty good. At lunch on a Wednesday (today) they were PACKED and the parking lot was kind of wild. Lots of SUV's parked in the compact spots (shocker.) But they recently opened so, maybe it will settle down soon. Everyone was friendly, and worked quickly and efficiently. The bus boys were hustling to keep the tables cleared. My husbands shrimp po-boy wasn't very seasoned, needed salt. Wasn't much to it. My veggie portobello sandwich was awesome, in addition to my spinach and feta soup. The fruit cups were basic, but definitely fresh. It's one of the better lunch spots in the area, the counter service helps you to get in & out at your own pace. If the food was more consistent I would give them an extra star and I will re-visit later to see how they're doing. Overall good experience and I would recommend trying it out. I appreciated the vegetarian options and the patio is nice. 2nd visit- less busy this time (I chose after lunch rush while raining.) My fire roasted tomato soup was superb and newk's favorite salad is awesome. They have a new unsweet peach tea which I really enjoyed, and I really love their sautéed garlic cloves on the condiment bar. Also croutons and Parmesan cheese were a great addition to my soup. I'm soooo excited that they're open!! Can't wait for the one to open up on campus too! I feel like everything I've ever eaten there has been good. Even on their first day open, everything was enjoyable and ran smoothly. I was greeted by the GM when I walked in and he (Chad) was very friendly. The lady at the cash register was very very nice as well. I enjoyed my chicken chili. I went up and added some Tabasco to give it a little spice.
