We have been visiting this place for years. Some items within my review may or may not still be available. For starters we typically go with the Kale Caesar Salad or Cheese Curds. The Cheese Curds speak for themselves, the buttermilk ranch appears to be made in house and is delicious. The salad is also very good. The combination of parmesan, sunflower seeds and banana peppers is very good and a combo I had never tried before. As far as main courses we had had the following: The Burger Seoul Plant (Philly Cheesesteak) Mac & Cheese Sausage & Kale Canestri Some of the menu items that don't appear to be currently but I had tried are the Hot Chicken Sandwich, Coconut Shrimp Tacos and some other versions of their pasta dishes. The Hamburger Steak use to be on the menu but was removed. However, recently it became available as the Thursday night special. Unfortunately, when we went it was underwhelming. The hamburger patty had zero seasoning and flavor, potatoes were average and the green beans were so salty we couldn't eat them. As far as drinks go, the Prague Ghost is very good. This might be my favorite casual meal in Baton Rouge for 2025. Since George's closed I havent found a reason to be in this area. It was too painful for me to not be driving here to get jalapeno cheese fries, a burger, and putting a dollar on the wall. But damn, this place has cured me of that sadness. I am disgusted that I had not been here sooner. We arrived during the lunch rush but were able to sit at a high top in the bar. The place is small so you may have to wait. It will be worth it. We started with some cheese curds. I cannot accurately convey how amazing these were. I have no idea what kind of cheese it was, what they did to make it so great, or how ranch added an additional wow. Trust me, get these. They are awesome. The burger, oh the burger. This is likely the best burger I have ever had in BR. If you are a burger fan, you must ad this one to your list. I haven't had every burger in BR but I have had a few. This one is the tops. Great patty, cooked perfectly to order, juicy, and super flavorful. Service was friendly but slightly slow which was likey due to the lunch rush. This is definitely a first time experience. First the parking is actually under the overpass, but the scene is very vibrant. Excellent service with a smile, and it got busy quickly as it was game day for LSU, great bar which I believe that's why most were there, but in a good way. The truffle fries as a starter came with two dips, garlic aioli, and ketchup, they were crisp and the shredded Parmesan enhanced the taste. The shrimp tacos were very nice, good portion and shrimp was plump and delicious, but the star was the pork belly buns, great flavor with char the bun was sweet and matched the savory perfectly. We were at the overpass merchant on Thursday night on the patio. Our waitress really made our experience special. She informed us the 5 dollar martini night (I could not pass that up). She also mentioned the aps were 7 dollars that night but when what we ordered wasn't available she brought us out complimentary truffle fries which were amazing. She even told us the macros on the Mediterranean dinner. Since I have a seafood allergy she also helped me swap from shrimp to chicken on my tacos and they were awesome. It was fine cause we paid extra for the sausage gravy and just smothered it with that. But if you didn't, you may be disappointed Parking Really considered giving it a 3/5 for this, but this could be new user error. We parked under the overpass, and it had rained the day before. Great brunch spot. It's locates literally under an overpass. Lol. Their specialties are these huge sandwiches on biscuits. I loved the spicy pineapple margarita..it was a little sweet and had a kick. The shrimp and grits had nice flavor. I like my grits a little creamier but that's just me. My chicken sandwich was huge! I will admit that I thought the biscuit was a tad bit dry. I've only gone here once, but I enjoyed my time there. The servers were very kind and attentive, and the food came out pretty quick. The fried cheese curds were heavenly! The coating was almost tempura-like. The pork buns were good, but if you're not a fan of cilantro, you should definitely stay away. It was very loud inside, so if noise bothers you, try to get a seat on the patio. I have been following Overpass Merchant for sometime on Instagram and it finally worked out for me and a friend to make it here for lunch. We started lunch with an app of Cheese Curds. It was my first time trying Cheese Curds but my friend had them before and she said they were great, I agreed. Being that it was a Wednesday we took advantage of the taco special; I got the fish and she got the pork. They were both on point (and we know our tacos )! Went on a Saturday before the dinner rush so got seated right away. There was 3 of us and we all got drinks and food. Ordered the special which was a jerk salmon. While I didn't necessarily taste the "jerk" the salmon was cooked to perfection. The bread pudding is what put the whole experience over the top and cannot recommend enough. read more

I'll start with some positives: Overpass Merchant has a great atmosphere, an awesome chicken sandwich and a pretty good burger. I've been several times and everything was great. However, this last visit was a huge disappointment. I'm hoping this is not the new norm for this place! First, our chicken biscuits were very burned on the bottom, and the kitchen still served them to us that way anyway. Second, our shrimp and grits were not good. They tasted like spicy tomato sauce mixed with vinegar. Worst shrimp and grits I've ever had. Finally, the bread pudding was also very burned. I was afraid the chicken might be too greasy, but it was perfectly fried. The fries tasted homemade. The aoili was a little bland in my opinion but it could just be preference. I won't lie my first impression of this place was "is it even open?" I couldn't see the title of the restaurant from across the street looking at it. The only markings on the building read 'S.SCIMECA' which was not the name of the restaurant, so it threw me off BUT we decided this had to be it, so we drove across to a VERY rough parking area under the overpass, filled with crater sized holes (or lakes ). To my knowledge this was the only parking for the restaurant, and I highly recommend not wearing your favorite white pair of shoes parking here because it was ROUGH to say the least! Once we walk into the restaurant, it was absolutely lovely. Cute, cozy, artsy, rustic, classy all tied into one. Then I noticed how many people they had on staff, it seemed like a lot for how small the restaurant was, which was a good sign to me. The staff also seemed to be enjoying their time, smiling, greeting, consistently checking in on their tables. I love to see people who aren't miserable when working, it's refreshing to see. The food was very good all around. We came for brunch and I got the breakfast burrito, which although was very good, it was a tad bit spicy for me (it does say it has a spicy sauce on it on the menu, I just never know how spicy something truly is until you try it), but next time I'm sure I can ask for it on the side, very good still. My husband got 'The Burger' and said it was very delicious, the fries were almost like 5 guys fries but better, crispier. The Bloody Mary we tried was unfortunately not our favorite, it tasted like chili, like a bowl of steaming hot chili, which just wasn't what we were expecting and didn't love it BUT maybe you or someone else does or will love that, and to that I say cheers (but I'll stick with a mimosa next time). Overpass Merchant is my favorite gastropub in the area by far. They have the best Burger in town, hands down. As the name indicates, the restaurant is located underneath the overpass, which provides plenty of parking. Don't misunderstand; this is not a shady, seedy eatery. The front of the restaurant is well-lit and inviting. You enter to great music and great vibes. The eating space fills up fast due to its popularity. The menu is focused on small fare and daily specials that pack huge flavors. There is always an added special of the day on the chalkboard. The menu does rotate. Outside seating can be loud due to traffic, depending on what time of day you go, so I recommend eating inside. The staff is always polite and attentive. The team knows beers; they will set you up with great pairings. I like the local favorites like Holy Roller, Gnarley Barley Jucifer, and Abita Purple Haze. Overpass does offer a unique cocktail menu as well. The Camp Water, Electric Relaxation, and their house frozen blueberry mint margarita are terrific. The chicken sandwich and Grouper Sandwich (grilled or fried) are killer but the showstopper, of course, is "The Burger". It is fantastic and makes the pub a true standout for me. The blend they use for the Burger, chuck, brisket, and short rib is terrific. The Burger with the truffle fries is award-winning. One of the fun things they do is the trivia nights. Took half home. The fries came out cold and kinda stale. My husband didn't really like the gravy on top of his chicken so I would recommend asking for that in the side just in case. He is a little picky eater. He did love the green beans. The servers were all really sweet and attentive. The only downside is this is a small, very busy area and the tables are really close so everyone's conversations were hard to block out.
