I ate at Newks with my wife for lunch during the week. Extremely busy right at 12 o'clock. I even left early hoping to beat the rush. My wife had the pimento cheese and I had the roast beef. The sandwiches were good but not good enough for me to fight the weekly lunch crowd. I'll go back but at a different time. Its not the restaurants fault they are popular. My displeasure is the rather rude patrons who "hover" waiting for you to finish eating so they can have your table. 4 stars for food. read more

Everyone from work goes here for lunch, so I thought I would try it. I order the Chef Salad and a drink (free refills) for $10. The salad was large and worth the money, but the salad was drowned in salad dressing. Next time I will have to ask them to put the dressing on the side. We stopped for lunch and were very pleased. Chicken Salad sandwich was small but very good. Pizza was tasty but crust needs to be cooked longer it was thin but chewy. We had our 2nd and last time at Newks. My soup was lukewarm and when I tried to get a waitress to ask her to warm it up I could not get her attention. We both ordered the Italian avocado sandwich and I don't even think it was that, not one avocado and it didn't even look like turkey more the color of ham. I have to say Newks was much better than I had anticipated it being, when I first saw that this place was opening, I saw that it was an Express Cafe and I immediately thought - Fast , soggy sandwiches. Newks is nothing of the sort . I had the opportunity to check them out during there soft opening and was completed impressed with the quality of this food - I ordered the Chicken Pesto Sandwich with pasta salad on the side. The soft toasty bread was melt in your mouth good , thin cut chicken slices with a flavor ful pesto sauce, roasted yellow and red peppers and to top it off melted goat cheese. Winner! The Pasta Salad was truely perfect as well - tri color pasta mixed with tomatoes, onions, and pea pods - plenty of flavor and not over whelming - Lets move on to dessert - it was lovely, I tried a brownie and it was pure velvety chocolate in each bite - washing that down with the sweet tea was especially good, I cant say enough good things about this place - Very good lunch spot and fast, friendly service. The building itself is nice, very modern and beautiful outside deck to enjoy this lovely jacksonville weather when permitted. I came here a 2nd time recently to enjoy thier tasty chicken pesto sandwich and was happy to see this place was packed! Looks like Newk's is on its way to a good start! read more

Newks is the Cheesecake Factory of fast food. Honestly, the layout is just ok. The price point for the product is just ok. The service is just ok. The location is just ok. Some coworkers of mine and I went for lunch this past week. I'd never heard of this place (probably because I rarely see the light of day during regular business hours), but it was suggested by a former coworker of mine. I walked in and immediately noticed their advertisement for mac n cheese. Naturally, I was all in. I ordered the pimento mac n cheese and a side salad. The other two ladies in my party got a pizza and some sort of chicken sandwich, respectively. The ordering system is similar to Panera, except instead of a pager you get a number to display on your table and someone comes and brings the food to your table. There is a giant island of condiments (which actually was probably the most impressive part of the entire experience...it was pretty elaborate), and the drinks are self-serve. My mac n cheese and salad took easily 10 minutes longer than the pizza and chicken sandwich did, so the two sweet women I dined with sat and watched their food get cold waiting on my entree to arrive. I'm not gonna say anything exceptionally positive about the meal, because if you can mess up noodles and cheese, you're in the wrong line of work. It was acceptable. The salad was...who cares? It was a Caesar salad and it was WAY late. I'm feeling exceptionally generous as I write this apparently because nothing makes me angrier than mediocre restaurant concepts, which Newk's is the quintessence of. 3 stars is a pretty liberal rating, in my opinion. I'll likely not make the effort to visit again any time soon, unless everyone in my lunch group outvotes me. read more

My wife and I have patronized this establishment on several occasions. On Friday September 21st, we had probably the worst experience in a restaraunt we have ever had. Every table at every booth was dirty,(we had to clean our own with napkins and ask wait staff for a wet cloth), two employees were seated at another table, one was on her phone and another chose to take a nap at the booth next to us. As his girth didn't allow his shirt to cover him, we had to look at his exposed flesh during our entire meal. We had taken our daughter with us this time, and she and I both became ill later. The manager of the location was extremely gracious in his response, however the owner of the franchise.....not so much. Everybody has bad days, how you respond to them can make a difference in how people percieve your business, and sometimes make a situation that could have ended well leave a bad taste in peoples mouths. I suggest if you ever have to complain to this company,do so directly to the corporate office. Bill G read more

Internet Wi-Fi doesn't work. Had a business lunch here and asked 4 different employees (plus a manager) for assistance and no one could help. Did not seem anyone cared. Why offer Wi-Fi if it doesn't work or not willing to troubleshoot?! Next time I will not be taking a business lunch here. read more

the only thing i have ever liked was the ahi tuna salad, but sometimes the chef overcooks it, which of course ruins it. however they are always happy to fix/remake anything you don't like. the salads are enormous so don't think it won't suffice for a main course. a good place for kids, big kids menu. read more

The place was not very busy, but we were there around 2pm. The food was good but there wasn't anything on the menu that set them apart from other Cosi/Crispers/Panera restaurants. There was a bar in the middle of the dining room, that was a bit confusing. It had bread sticks, crackers, and some other stuff, and i wasn't sure if it was self serve or if it was meant for certain products. But overall not bad. read more

We hadn't been to Newk's Café in many months (I'm not sure why exactly), but after a Saturday afternoon visit to the Avenues Mall we decided to forego a food court meal and head over to Newk's Café for a late lunch. I'm so glad we did. The soup offerings today included a crab soup and it was delicious. The woman who took my order advised me the crab soup was spicy...and it sure was...spicy and delicious. It was chock full of crab, corn and black pepper. So yummy! I paired it with a half roast beef sandwich, which was quite tasty. Some reviewers have commented about the small portions of meat, and I'd have to agree, but the bread, condiments (including a creole mustard), and roast beef were delicious. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and not wilted like in other establishments. The fountain drinks in the large black-plastic cups are fulfilling. My husband enjoyed the sandwich dubbed "the Royal" (which I reviewed about a year ago) and commented on the delicious bread and excellent sauce. My son enjoyed the pizza called the "Debra", which was like a chicken pesto, and he uttered, "delicious!" We always sample the Grissini bread sticks and pickle bar. Sum total for lunch for three: $32.98. Once again, good food, good service, and good prices. Kudos to Newk's team, and best of luck in your second location on Jacksonville's Northside at 14964 Max Leggett Pkwy, near the airport. This is the best sandwich, salad and soup eatery in the Southside. Not only is the food really yummy (I like the club sandwich the best - it's really the bread that makes it) but the staff is always very friendly and customer focused. We go here at least once a week. read more

I love a good salad, and this place doesn't disappoint. The salads are huge and filling. Unlike other soup and salad chains salads that seem to be shrinking. I've had almost all their salads and soups. All great. Personal favorites are the black and blue and tomato soup. read more

This hands down is my favorite restaurant - I do the Pass Market Points and when I get to 100 points I get a free entrée. Since I eat there a lot I enjoy getting a free entree every now and again. My favorite is the Greek salad and I add roast beef to it with an upcharge of $3.59 - well worth it. My new favorite though is the Black and Blue salad with steak....I have NEVER had a bad meal here and the managers and staff are extremely nice and helpful. Love this place!!! read more
