The absolute best customer service here! They are always amazing. Especially the cashier today. The food is good and fresh every time. The interior is always clean and welcoming. I had their soup of the day and it was delicious! The ingredients tasted fresh and the portions were generous.

Stopped for lunch and had the pulled pork pizza. It was delicious. The free snack bar with pickles, peppers and various other nick knacks is a nice touch too. Justine had the chicken salad which was delicious as well. Very happy and full! read more

Holy Sodium Intake Batman!! I had the Ahi Tuna Salad and I had to stop half way through because I was starting to get so puffy from all the salt. Two gallons of water later I'm starting to feel normal again. This was my first time here an won't be going out of my way to come back again. read more

When you walk in, eVerything is tidy, which is why I'm giving it a star. The cashier was so rude to my MIL that we didn't even feel comfortable enough to sit down and eat our dessert. Very weird feeling unwelcome in an empty restaurant during daylight. It felt like we were imposing on them trying to close, when it was literally 3:30 in the afternoon. The staff were very nice and professional. The restaurant was spotless. No problems there. So now the food: the sandwhich was tasty, but tiny. I think it was called 'The Royal'. The pimento mac and cheese was delicious, but it was a small amount served in a tiny, shallow dish. I ate there with my husband and for two drinks, two HALF sandwhiches, and two sides of pimento mac and cheese was a little over $28. I was still hungry and ended up filling up on popcorn at the movie theater later. Sadly, nothing really made me want to come back here. read more

This Newks in my opinion is dirty in comparison to Starkvills,I think the management here leaves little to be desired. Food is okay- never breadsticks- dirty floor-they forget products on the plate - overcharge for things you didn't order - I go here,but they need to take example from Newks in Starkville,it runs like a well oiled machine and clean as a whistle! read more

Italian sandwich was very good. Loved the bar you can help yourself to pickles, peppers, etc. My side Caesar was a nice sized portion. My only complaint is the sandwich was very small. There are many places out there with bigger sandwiches which are worth the money, but I found this sandwich was small compared to others. Very tasty though. read more

Clean cheerful place with friendly service. The French dip au jus was tasty. Nice selection of beer and soft drinks. Close to 1-20 highway exit, a Bed Bath and Beyond and TJ Maxx. read more

Not overly impressive. Ordering was a pain since the person taking the order was very slow and did not seem to have a clue about the menu. The food servers did a good job, however the food was nothing to write home about. Seems the food quality and portions were not up to the price paid for the meal. Fairly disappointed. News is my very favorite place to eat. I love to go on Saturdays and eat their patato soup. Their bathroom is super clean and up to date. It is a very classy but affordable restaurant. I love it soooo much and plus it is by Best Buy and Bed Bath and Body Works so I can go and shop after I eat! read more

The inside is nice, the service is good, the food tasted pretty good, but the amount of food you get for the price is ridiculous. I own an iPhone6s plus, a larger phone, but still fits in your hand. My sandwich was equally as long as my phone. It's kinda funny how they cut it in half and spread it out over the plate to make it seem like you're getting a larger portion. No, it's not piled high with meat either. It's about as much meat as you'd get from Subway. The side they give you, assuming you don't take the chips, is about as large as a ranch or similar dipping sauce container you'd get from another restaurant. The soup isn't any different either. They give you a giant bowl, to make you think as if you were getting more, but it's filled up maybe 1/4 full. You don't get a side with a bowl of soup either, well I guess you can add one on the side for more $. To sum it all up, I spent almost $50 on 4 people eating...this wasn't at all worth it. read more

Went into Newks tonight and was super impressed with the cleanliness, atmosphere, service, and the food was delicious! These guys are doing a fantastic job. We had to try it and it's was ok. Nothing great, nothing bad, just ok. I think I'm trying to hard to make this place better than it was. The interior was kind of disjointed, the seating didn't make a lot sense but I guess they are working by the principle of something for everyone. Business seemed pretty decent for a Saturday afternoon, the food came out in a decent amount of time and the place was very clean. I didn't know what Newk's really was until I got there and saw the menu, it's a stylized pizza/sandwich/salad restaurant. Now I know. I had the Mediterranian Pizza, it needed a little more cooking, and the wife had the Italian Sandwich which she really liked so no real complaints on the food. It's a decent place to eat but nothing I would go for a second time. It's worth a try and it will suit some better than others. I see this as a place that plenty will love, others won't care for a second trip there but no real complaints, no real compliments so that's why the 3 Stars. read more

I just returned home from my first visit to Newks in Meridian. I had read quite a few unflattering reviews, especially about prices and portion size. Oh, and not getting a discount to which one felt entitled. I saw nothing wrong with portion size, and I enjoyed the half club sandwich with a bowl of lobster bisque. The employees were very nice with no peppy artificialness. I have an idea about the reason the prices are a little above average, and here's the "educated guess." I don't have a headache! Most likely, that means Newks uses higher-than-average-quality ingredients. I expected to get an "MSG" headache, muscle twitching, wheezing, and then feeling very bad for several days, just so I could eliminate one more restaurant from the list of many places I cannot go. I don't even call places anymore to try and find out if the food has MSG because it, or something similar, is listed as yeast extract, hydrolyzed protein, artificial and natural (!) flavorings (instead of specific spices, etc.), gelatin, calcium or sodium casseinate, and so on. I understand that FDA says that MSG is natural and doesn't have to be listed as-is. You can put MSG on dog poop and think it tastes good if you believed it wasn't what it really was. And love the price. MSG's purpose is to stimulate the taste buds. It can turn a cheap meat or vegetable into tasty fare . It darn near killed me more than once before I finally learned. I'm planning to visit Newks again, with considerable gratitude and an understanding of why they might not survive around here, where taste buds demand a lot of zing for the buck. read more

I really wanted to like Newk's. My relatives had recommended it so glowingly and described the food in such details that I felt I knew what to expect. I didn't. The chicken salad I was served, didn't match the description my cousin from Hattiesburg had given or the description on their website. Their online description says it contains, "chicken breast, sliced grapes, pecans and our own Newk's mayo. Topped with romaine lettuce, tomato, mayo, provolone cheese and spicy Creole mustard." After the first few bites, I opened the sandwich to see if my taste buds were playing tricks on me, but they weren't. The chicken salad I got must have been what was left in the bottom of the bowl because it didn't have a single grape or pecan, and it was very dry. However, it had an overabundance (too much) of black pepper, but very little mayo and/or creole mustard. After the first few bites of the chicken salad, I knew I wasn't going to eat the rest, so I decided to take more than half of it home. I was sure my husband would eat it because he usually never complains about the food. If I order something that I don't like, I always take it home because if he won't eat it, nobody will. When we first got married over 40 years ago and I was learning to cook, I was very grateful that he would eat just about anything without complaining. As soon as I got home, he immediately went for my leftover chicken salad, like I knew he would. After a few bites, he asked if I wanted it put in the refrigerator for later or did I want him to just throw it away. He said it was very dry and didn't have any flavor. He has been known to eat a full meal and also eat my leftovers, but not this time. He said we should not go back because we just don't like the food we've eaten there. This was only the second time I've eaten at the Newk's in Meridian. The first time my husband was with me, and we both had a salad. I've eaten salads in just about every type of restaurant, in many different cities, and I've never said I didn't recognize the type lettuce used, but that changed at Newks. Newks salad had a mix of different type greens, one of which I had never seen before and didn't like. It wilted easily when the salad dressing was put on the salad, which made it hard to eat. We mainly ate the meat and some of the romaine lettuce and left the rest. To my surprise, my husband also didn't like it. He doesn't like to complain to the employees unless there is something wrong with the food that they caused, like burning the food. On the way home, he told me that should never order another salad at Newks. My last complaint is that their building is very noisy, especially around the front where you need to be able to hear and be heard so you can order your food. Both times I've been there, I could hardly hear the clerk who was trying to take my order, and I don't have a hearing problem. At first, I thought the clerks were not speaking loudly enough, but on my second visit I realized that the number of people who gather close to the registers is what makes it so noisy. The roundtable is close to the front, and I think that contributes to the noise. Also, having people stand around the menu board discussing what to order also contributes to the noisy condition up front. Since this is a fairly new location, I'm sure the number of people standing around trying to read the menu will lessen when people learn what to order, or more importantly what not to order. It might help the logjam upfront if you would hand out menus as people come in the front door, and take them back at the registers. read more
