If you're considering getting lasik surgery, Dr. Bruce Newman is your go-to guy. I have wanted this surgery for so long and was super chicken about it and long-term effects. I did a ton of research before picking out where to go. I didn't want to go to one of those crowded places where they do 50 gazillion people in a day, I wanted personal care. Dr. Newman was very upfront about my eyes. I had a horrendous astigmatism, am ahem older and chances were not good. He estimated I would only get results of about 20/40. But I took the chance because I hike and camp and do a lot of outdoors stuff. Dust and my contacts just bugged the crap out of me. We decided on custom PRK to get the best result. Did you know Lasik, they peel the flap back, do the surgery, you see in a few days. PRK, they laser the flap off and it has to grow and you see again in a few months. The difference is long-term healing. If you get hit in the eye after Lasik, you could have some serious eye problems. So I chose the more scary, slower healing process for long-term health of my eyes. That plus the custom really paid off. I have 20/20, nearly 20/10 vision! It was way more than i could have hoped for. I knew I would still need readers and even with readers, I use a 1.25 and I can see twice as much as before surgery. #WINNING I can actually see when I get out of bed now. I'll be able to see when I'm waterskiing. I mean, I am super thrilled at what a great job the Newman Eye Center did. You know, we're all individuals. Dr. Newman's personality may not be for everyone. He's a little nerdy and a bit on the quirky side, but I trust his knowledge and experience of 30+ years in the business. I don't need perfect personality - I need perfect results! These are our eyes we're talking about here, not our egos. I don't need a tall handsome charming doctor - I need one that will ensure my eyesight is perfect! Most of Dr. Newman's staff are warm and friendly and made me feel welcomed and taken care of. The fresh coffee and cookies in lobby are a nice touch. The check-out lady is a hoot. In terms of welcoming new patient curb-side appeal - the office decor could use a major upgrade. The place looks like it hasn't been decorated since the 80s. But again, whatever - as long as the equipment and skills of the doctor and his staff are up to snuff - that's all I need. They're busy so book plenty of time for your appointment. Even with the constant flow of patients, I've never waited in the lobby for longer than 15 minutes! Lastly - don't let the front office old biddy scare you away. ( I forget her name.) If there's anyone in the office they need to replace, it's the older lady with short blonde hair who "not-greets" you when you enter. She has a pinched, miserable, sour-puss look on her face 24/7, NEVER smiles, is not conversational, barely acknowledges your presence when you arrive. That's just not the way to greet people. The office could do with a much more friendly and welcoming front-desk person. Get rid of her or make her smile, acknowledge and TALK to her your patients. read more

I've had cataract removal surgery in both eyes. The 1st was done on 02//25/2019 for my right eye with a Bausch & Lomb lens model: MX60E. The results were amazing. The glare was gone and colors were so vibrant. I had the left eye done on 07/05/2022 with Alcon AcrySof IQ PanOptix UV IOL. I am still amazed at how great the results were and still are. My vision is perfect. No glare, no double vision, no distortion and best of all NO MORE GLASSES. My partner had his cataract surgery done through the VA. It took the VA over a year to get back to him to schedule the 2nd eye surgery. He is currently on his 4th RX to fight an infection. Finally things are starting to clear up, but he still needs glasses and always will. I'm so grateful that I had Dr. Newman perform both surgeries. I was told one amount and when I got the bill it was over $100 more than they had originally told me . When I called to discuss , I was not listened to and the person who I spoke with continued to speak over me. This person was very disrespectful to me. You are taking your chances by going here. Dr. Newman is the best eye doctor I've ever had! He's thoughtful, professional, and very skilled at what he does. He's always taken the time to get to the bottom of what's going on for me and recommend options. I appreciate that kind of meticulous care and attention to detail that seems to be rare these days. The rest of the staff are also very kind and welcoming. State of the art equipment. Unfortunately, I now live in California, but I would STILL make trips out to this eye center if needed! Hard for another to compare after seeing Dr. Newman! Most people ONLY leave reviews after one "negative" experience and so I think it's important to leave reviews for the very positive as well so it's not disproportionate and misrepresented. I made an appointment because I had sever eye pain in my right eye. I was told I could not make an appointment for over 7 days. When I said that this was not going to work, and I will go somewhere else, the office squeezed me in 2 days later. I arrived at my appointment. They did every test billable possible, and at the end of my 2.5 hr ordeal, Dr, Newman announced that I don't have glaucoma, I said I was not here for a glaucoma test, I have severe eye pain. He said I can't help you with that. Take an aspirin, go back to your family physician, ear nose and throat specialist, or see a neurologist. WTF? Clearly Dr. Newman will put you though all his billable test to make sure he reaches his monthly quota. Dr. Newman is part of the health care problem. Run, Run away as fast as you can. read more

I saw an amazing Groupon for Dysport featuring it for about half the price I normally pay. I'm a Dysport junkie all the way. Before purchasing, I did some due diligence by calling the practice and inquiring how long Dr. Newman had been doing the procedure. The woman who I spoke with was very nice and answered all my questions to my satisfaction. I called back and scheduled an appointment and the second woman was quite snappy and rude. Upon check in - same thing. She didn't make much eye contact and appeared grouchy. It appeared she would rather be doing anything else besides greeting me. Not someone I would want to have working the front. It seems like a family run place so maybe it is his mother? Not sure. So I was taken back and Dr. Newman's brother took photos and was very nice and made me feel welcome. Then they checked my eyes (I'm assuming to maybe get new patients) and then gave me a folder with several brochures for other cosmetic procedures for the face and eyes. There was no pressure, more of a "here's what else we do" kind of thing. Then Dr. Newman came in. He was quick and the way he injects is virtually painless. I was very surprised and actually happy they initially gave me ice to numb but I didn't need it at all. I'm very happy and wish I had purchased more Groupons as I will definitely go back if he has another deal. Even though it's a little far from my house, I will probably go back the next time I need glasses too. He's got the latest and greatest eye machines. Five days later, my eyes and forehead look fantastic. He put the injections in a different spots (all over my forehead) instead of at my hairline and eyebrows which I was used to. The effect I think is better. My eyebrows still lift which looks more natural, but nothing else! I would highly recommend him and Dysport! read more

These people are the rudest people I've had to deal with. A while ago I had an eye issue (couldn't see, kept watering, so painful) so I made an appointment with them to see what was going on. The doctor couldn't tell me what was going on and just gave me a bunch of drops to try because he didn't know what was wrong. I went back to make sure it was fine. He asked how it felt I said regular and then he proceeded to try to get me to have lasic surgery.... what does that have to do with my current issue?! A few weeks has gone by and I don't have a primary eye doctor here as I just moved here. I had a fluke accident with my contacts and am completely out... no way to see! They refused to give me a trial pair although most places would be willing to give me a trial pair at least until I can get into a new appointment. Went on and on about how they don't have my prescription which is false because I filled it out on paper work and made some excuses of losing their license. Funny because many other places were more than happy to give me a trial pair as long as I made an appointment. Overall not a good experience! Don't waste your time. read more

I had the same experience as the other reviewers. I was excited about the Groupon, but then in dealing with the office to schedule the appointment I was rudely told they only do "those appointments" twice a month. Also I had called in to schedule the appointment in January, b/c I had a recent treatment and didn't need a touch up until then. The woman scheduling the appointment was also very upset about this. Telling me that this request it was just too early, although it is the last week of October. She then allowed me to schedule an appointment telling me she'd have to try to schedule others on the same day, and that she wasn't sure she could do this and may have to call back later to let me know when I could come in. The whole experience is just so rude, I think I'll just give the Groupon away to someone who has the extra time to be treated not like a cared for patient, but a problem. I had an emergency room doctor tell me I needed to see a eye doctor right away after I saw him. I called 9 doctors trying to get an appointment but could not be seen. I called Dr Newman's office and they were so nice on the phone and gave me an appointment in the afternoon. I waited a little while, but was grateful they were squeezing me in. Everyone there could not have been nicer. I got a very good exam and everything was explained to me so I could easily understand what was going on. I really felt like Dr Newman really was knowledgeable along with his staff. I also felt like they cared, and they made sure to let me know if I have any issues I can call them at anytime and they will get me in the same day. I'm actually writing this while sitting in the chair. I called this morning just hoping to find a good eye dr as I've not had an exam in forever and have had some issues lately in one eye to maybe schedule something next few weeks, I indicated that I have had pink eye even though I've been treated and they said they had a cancellation today and to come on in although I've been on antibiotic eye drops. I get there and wait more than an hour and was told that I was a fit in appointment but that's not what I was told when I called in, I was told I was filling a spot that was a cancelled appointment. So ok I deal... after an hour I'm lead back, at this point my husband has had to leave work to get our child at school as I waited for so long, the nurse doesn't have the best people skills that's ok. The dr comes in and is so busy talking to his assistant that he ignores what I'm saying, barely says anything to me. Put drops in my eyes and gives me a handout on pink eye and says that mine looks not bad at all like its improving but an additional steroid would help and to stay on my current antibiotic.Mean time I'm waiting for him to come back to look in my dilated eye the staff is talking bad about each other and the dr and starting drama. I'm supposed to come back in a week... not sure about that. He did actually look in my eye so I suppose that's good, to make sure no bacteria was in there. Also an area of concern to me was that none of them wore gloves. I did see the nurse wash her hands frequently but still no gloves.Granted I've not been to an eye dr in a very long time so I'm not sure if that's standard anymore(I'd think it would be). Prob won't go back here. I don't enjoy hearing office drama while waiting and I also don't enjoy being told one thing then being told another. This place shouldn't even be open for business! First off I waited an hour. I didn't even get to see anyone until "I" said something! ! No one acknowledged me waiting! Then the tech came & got me to do my eye exam. I don't know if she has narcolepsy or if she's on pills but she kept nodding out while she was standing there and asking me the same questions over and over again! Scary!!! She did the entire exam which took her another hour because she couldn't concentrate. When the doctor finally came in to exam me he put my chin in the strap. My eyes were already dilated and the Doctor sneezed directly right into my eye! Disgusting! He did not apologize or even acknowledge it! When I put my chin back into the strap, out of nowhere he stuck a stick into my eye without even telling me what he was going to do. As a reflex I pulled back and said "wait you don't just stick a stick in someone's eye without telling them first!" I put my chin back in the strap and he says oh never mind your eyes are already dilated!! Again scary!!! I don't know why I didn't just leave right away but I'm here to tell you this so that no one else has to go through this and wonders "is this really happening?" I could go on and on because the billing was another issue. I found out that the lady that works behind the counter is his sister and his brother also works there. They're records are a mess. I have never seen a more blatant display of unprofessionalism and total lack of customer service in a medical office. The staff working at the front desk are beyond condescending and insensitive to serious patient matters. Not only do they interrogate and nit-pick your private issues before "deciding" whether to intake you as a patient but they also expect you to work on their behalf too! I was referred here an MD but the nightmare of barely making an appointment with their lack of professionalism makes it hard to even trust that the doctor himself would be any different than the clowns running the office for him. So... I wish I had gotten cataract surgery years ago and now feel that it was the best thing I've ever done in my life. Not realizing how bad my eyes had gotten gradually over the years, after the first eye was done, I woke up to a whole new world full of brightness and colors. Thanks to the very knowledgeable and expertise of Dr Newman and his staff, I am so looking forward to the days ahead. Dr Newman sure knows his eyes and the equipment he owns is latest technology and his staff is first rate. I've known Dr. Newman and his staff since 2004 when he performed Lasix surgery for me. The outcome was so fabulous that I recommended my daughter and my best friend to him, and their outcome was also fabulous. Recently Dr Newman removed a cataract and implanted a lens and again the outcome has been fabulous. The majority of the staff has been the same since 2004 and I think that speaks volumes. Had my 1st ever injection of Dysport here, my fore head was like a shar-pei ! I didn't think it was fixable ... Had the injections done and after just a couple hours I could already see a difference. I was already happy with results but after a few days my forehead is completely smooth !! I'm beyond happy with my results ! I actually drove here from Tucson AZ. and I am very happy I did. I went through QualSight LASIK where they helped me choose places to get the procedure. When I am going to an eye doctor to get something done with my eyes my number one concern is the doctor. The staff really isn't operating on my eyes so regardless of how the staff is I want an amazing eye doctor! Dr. Newman was super thorough, I had Lasik done and I have never been happier. He followed through with several follow up appointments to make sure everything was going along properly and he even called the night of the surgery to check and make sure everything was okay. I give full marks to Newman Eye Center because my site is very important to me and I definitely trust Doctor Newman with it! I didn't make it past the front desk. I was referred to Dr. Newman. When I arrived I showed my insurance cards... Immediately I was told they did not accept my insurance. After calling my doctor, I realized that I showed an insurance card that was not valid among the others that were valid..... the person at the front desk didn't seem to want to understand that I did have the correct insurance. I was not very happy with this experience. I am new to medicare and assumed (incorrectly) that someone that deals with insurance on a daily basis would have seen that there were too many insurance cards and that as a referral..... the insurance was verified prior to my arrival. This office doesn't even deserve a one star. My husband was referred there last December for a consult on his cataracts. They finally scheduled an appointment in January, did his exam and then said they would call him to set up the surgery. We never heard from them. He had some other medical issues to take care of so by the time we got back to them it was 6 months later. He was told that they needed to get another referral from TriWest. He called a few times to get an appointment scheduled and it was finally scheduled in August. He went back in for another full exam and was told to come back on September 1st to be scheduled for surgery. I obtained a baby sitter and went back with him. Another exam was done and then Kathy told him he had to purchase a kit for $65 or else he was going to have to purchase 3 different drops for his eyes. I told her that all his meds came from the VA and he didn't use an outside pharmacy. My husband agreed to purchase the kit for $65 and the surgery was scheduled for September 12th. Before we left, they gave him a script for an EKG because the outpatient surgery center needed that to be done before he could have surgery. I told them he would have to call the VA to get it scheduled. When we came home, he called the VA and left a message with the call center for Dr. Patel to tell her he needed an EKG as soon as possible as he had surgery scheduled on the 12th of September. He called again twice on Tuesday to tell them to please get the message to Dr. Patel as surgery was scheduled for the 12th. On Thursday, the 7th of September, Kathy called and asked if we had the EKG done yet and I told her we were still waiting to hear from Dr. Patel. That each time we left a message, we were told it would take up to 72 hours before we heard back from them. I then called the VA again and left another message for Valerie who is Dr. Patel's nurse at the VA. Valerie called me back and asked what was going on. I told her the Newman Eye Center had done another exam on Ed and they wanted an EKG done as his surgery was scheduled for September 12th. She pulled up his records and said the only record of him seeing Dr. Newman on his file was in January. Valerie had no record of this new appointment in the VA system. She also told me that Newman's office didn't follow the proper procedure and should not have given him a script for an EKG as it had to go through the VA and then Dr. Patel would have called for a cardiac consult. Valerie told me that because they didn't follow the correct procedure, we would have had to pay for the surgery. She told me that the VA now had an ophthalmologist at the hospital and that she was going to refer him to him. She gave me the number to call for an appointment. She advised us to cancel the surgery as the VA wasn't going to order the EKG as it wasn't requested in the correct way and with his history, a cardiologist would need to review it. My husband then called Dr. Newman's office and told Debbie, the office manager, that the VA was cancelling the surgery as they didn't follow the correct procedure. Debbie preceded to tell him that he would be charged $200 for cancelling at which time he gave me the phone and I told her we would not be paying a $200 fee as the VA has told us to cancel. She then insisted that she needed to hear that from the VA. My husband also told her I would be bringing back the case they sold us for $65 on Tuesday the 12th of September. Cheryl, from TriWest called me Friday afternoon about this matter, and I explained to her what happened. She told me that he should not have been charged for a case and that they could not charge us for the cancellation of the surgery. Because it was late, she was going to call Debbie on Monday, the 11th, and explain this to her. Today, I went up to Newman's office to return the case and Debbie again is asking me what happened. Again I explained to her that they didn't follow the correct procedures and that the VA was cancelling the surgery. She wanted to know if I knew the number as she claims she has been talking to the VA and they don't have an ophthalmologist on staff. I told her I didn't have the number and that she would call but would be put through to the call center and would have to leave a message for Valerie, Dr. Patel's nurse. She then got on the phone and was talking to someone and asked me to talk to that person. I took the phone and Debbie had called TriWest not the VA. TriWest doesn't know if the VA has a new ophthalmologist on staff so I told the lady on the phone, Debbie had called the wrong person and hung up. Debbie then claimed she couldn't refund his money as Dr. Newman wasn't there to issue us a check. Bull. I just put a complaint into TriWest, and Paulina is going to notify her supervisor not to send any referrals to Newman Eye Center read more

Dr. Newman is a true professional in all ways. Trust is imperative when it comes to eye surgery, and Dr. Newman gained mine immediately. For the first time I'm 45 years I wear no glasses. I do need reading glasses however, but that was the plan from the beginning. His staff and follow up is second to none. He gives you his cell phone number, which makes him available if you need him at any time. I wish all doctors did that! Full review below, but the end story is I was misdiagnosed twice, my eye infection got much worse and painful, and was left with a permanent scar on my cornea, not to mention the insanely high charge for office visits (2-3x what I spent at the next doctor who fixed the issue). Had to go to a different doctor to clear up the issue. The story: I came down with an eye infection and urgent care referred me to Dr. Newman. They were able to get me in on the same day with the understanding that I may have to wait a bit, which I understood. After waiting almost 2 hours in the waiting room, I was called back to see Dr. Newman. A nurse did the usual primary tests and then Dr. Newman came in, looked at my eye for about 2 minutes and said that it was pink eye. I asked him if it was possible that it was anything else and he said "no, it's definitely pink eye". He prescribed me some drops, said I'd be better in a day but if not, to come back and see him. I didn't have insurance so he charged me $175 for the visit which seemed high but oh well right? It was a Friday. I filled my Rx, started using the drops, and woke up saturday much worse. My entire eye went from pink to beet red. I got back in to see Dr. Newman after the weekend and he said that he no longer thought it was pink eye but some other infection. After looking at my eye very briefly again, he prescribed me a different prescription, charged me $100 and sent me on my way with the words "If it doesn't get better then you need to go see someone else". WHAT?! I went to fill my Rx and found out that the drug was $300!! But what could I do? I paid and started using the drops and immediately made an appointment with a different doctor after feeling that Dr. Newman couldn't care less about getting my diagnosis correct, let alone treating it properly. The next morning I saw a different doctor (Who took plenty of time to look at my eye and study what was going on). He informed me that every Rx Dr. Newman gave me was the wrong one and very toxic. PLUS one of the drops ulcerated my cornea due to the wrong diagnosis!! The new doctor took me off all the drops Dr. Newman prescribed me, gave me a simple eye drop for infection that cost almost nothing, charged me $60 for the visit, and told me to come back on a week. The drops cleared my infection up in about a day. At my checkup, the new doctor informed me that the ulcer on my cornea caused by the drops Dr. Newman gave me had healed but there was a scar there (which slightly blurs my vision). Not only did Dr. Newman misdiagnose me twice, charge me 2-3 times what this other doctor charged me, and barely spend the time to look at my eye, but due to his poor practice, has left me with lasting effects. I explained this to Dr. Newman and asked if he would, in good faith, reimburse me part of what he charged me since he not only made my eye worse, but also permanently screwed up my eye. They offered me a fraction of what I spent and I told them it was an insult. BEWARE of Dr. Newman. He doesn't care about getting it right; just wants to get as many people through his office and charge them insane amounts of money while making their problem worse. "You'll have to see someone else" is probably his go to phrase when he doesn't want to figure out what's really wrong with you. read more

Doctor Newman is a very good doctor. The office staff in my opinion is not terribly organized or caring. My two last appointments, after being dilated, they simply forgot about me. After an hour I inquired as to what was the holdup. Their reply was that I should have told them that I had been waiting too long. I swore that I'd never return. read more
