I had done some guided meditation in the past, and loved the thought of doing it again, especially with the way life is going, this was definitely a no brainer. I decided to book this with my bestfriend, as we were spending the day together for my birthday, and she was recently diagnosed with a terminal autoimmune illness. This is a guided meditation that was a DIFFERENT LEVEL!!!! I cannot tell you enough from the moment you walk in, you feel the peace and serenity in all aspects. Kelly was absolutely amazing and just gives off this unreal relaxing aura,-you just know you are going to feel absolutely at peace, especially within. Kelly took the time to get to know each of us and exactly what heaviness- life was putting on us. I could not believe how much Kelly really listened, and understood what we were feeling. Kelly made sure we were very comfortable and did not rush or give us any type of feeling that we were an "appointment". From beginning to end, she took the time to really listen and validate our feelings being woman and mothers. I actually got a little emotional during the mediatation, because it just took me to a place mentally, that I have missed and it gave me a feeling of having control, of my peace and wellbeing IN MIND, BODY, AND SOUL! My best friend had never done guided meditation, and so this resonated with her. My bestie's mindset about her illness, is a much more clear and optimistic. I bought a gift certificate for my cousin just last week, who is so excited to meet with Kelly and learn the various wellness practices Soma offers. I vowed to myself that this will be part of my self care- I deserve this all the time not just because it was my birthday! Kelly made sure to tell us to reach out, (even when our budgets may not allow this for ourselves), because she is flexible and wants (especially women/moms) to truly take care of themselves. My bestie and I both felt this was definitely sincere! I cannot stress this enough you need to experience this and make this part of your life!!!!!! I am!!

And wow has it helped! As a yogi I've worked, taught and taken yoga classes from so many places in the USA and this one is by far one of the most empowering! It is by far the best bang for your buck in the area! After taking her class 1x week consistently for 3 months I tried out some other studios closer to my home when I had a schedule change and NOTHING compared. Driving an extra 20 mins is well worth the guarantee of a great workout no class of hers is ever the same! She kicks total butt! The studio is kept clean, the lady at the front desk always knows my name even though I don't know hers and is always glad I came! And there is a great humble and kind energy in the studio no weird yoga power trip studio vibes. Down to earth! Huge fan! XOXO

But practicing yoga at Danbury Bikram yoga has been an exception. I love it and I enjoy it. There is a feeling of a community. It's clean and cozy. They have plenty of classes and the instructors truly believe in progress vs perfection. And yes it's hot and very difficult but eventually managed to Pace myself for 90 min practice. After every practice I feel like a new person. I can't think of anything else but the practice. I totally recommend this place.

I was in serious need of cleansing after so much food & wine! I went to the 8am class on a Sunday morning. I got there early to find a large studio. It was probably the biggest Bikram Yoga studio I've been to. I've been to 2 studios in Michigan, and 1 in St. Augustine, FL. The actual room where we practice is small and fairly standard, but they had sizeable changing rooms for both men & women. They also seemed to have a room for instructors. As I was trying to figure out where the women's room was (since the instructor was elsewhere), I stumbled upon what looked like a bed and area for instructors to stay. Maybe its for inbetween classes? I don't know! It was a nice surprise to find out that on your first visit at Bikram Yoga Danbury, your mat & towel rental is free, a savings of $3. The drop-in class rate is $22, which is $7 more than my local Bikram Yoga studios. These are individually owned, so they choose their rate. The packages were also more expensive, and not as many classes are offered. Obviously this is based on demand, which I found surprising that the 2 Michigan studios have more than double the classes. The instructor was very nice, and good at instruction/guidance. I thought it was odd that she discouraged drinking water in between postures after the Eagle pose like every other instructor allows. She said it's a distraction & we should all be hydrated already if we're drinking the amount of water we should be drinking. So, basically it's almost pointless to bring in water. She called me out for drinking water (not by name though), and asked that we all wait until the final posture. It was a good class & I'm so glad I went. If you've been thinking of trying Bikram Yoga, go for it! Give yourself time to adjust, be patient with yourself and take advantage of the new student package. It takes at least 30 days to get the hang of it. It's good for you!

Getting in shape before Pilates was always tiring, painful and monotonous. Pilates with Marta is just the opposite. The studio is such an inviting space. It is filled with light, providing an attractive, peaceful place to workout. It is also utterly immaculate. All the equipment necessary for a full Pure Pilates workout is available. For me it is a perfect environment. The heart of the Pilates studio is the teacher, Marta Ostro. She was taught by Joseph Pilates' protege Romana and her daughter Sari in NYC. Pilates is her calling and she is an extraordinary instructor. Marta's knowledge of Pilates as well as her understanding of the human body and how it works is remarkable. She is a patient and compassionate teacher. She is determined to teach you the skills that are needed for a healthier, stronger life. Marta's love for her vocation makes each lesson a calming and enjoyable experience. She has a wonderful energy and positivity that are infused into all her lessons. I first came to Marta 15 years ago after bilateral hip replacements. I couldn't walk without a limp or discomfort and I had zero energy. I was miserable. After training with Marta for a relatively short time, the limp and discomfort were nonexistent and my energy was back. As I continue my training with Marta I see changes in my whole body. Muscles are more defined, both my upper and lower body are toned, and my energy level is high. Pilates is a complete body workout. Marta continues to fine tune my skills and take me deeper into the techniques of Pilates . When I finish each session with Marta I feel great both mentally and physically. Marta makes exercise fun. Pilates makes my body happy.

I got a little useless stretch and met lots of nice women. The studio is small and dark, easy to get to. New first time class members pay $12 then Classes are $17 per class or $65 unlimited for the month. However, Linda has a lot of opinions that you must agree with or prepare to be called out. She went off on a rant about how 'all women should be working and women should have their own money.' She then followed saying, 'i would be embarrassed to ask my husband for ten dollars for Dunkin coffee' I knew the comment was directed towards me because upon meeting her she was interested to know about my job and I explained how I left mine to help my husband run his business and be home to start a family. She immediately was concerned with why I wasn't working outside my home. When i confronted her about it after class, she made gave me the dismissive comment of 'sorry you took it personal'. It was personal, i'm not an idiot. The yoga itself was kind of a joke. We sat the entire time. It seemed more like a therapy session rather than yoga. I barely got a work out. I have gone to other prenatal Yoga classes which left my body much more stretched and was more beneficial for my body. if you do decide to come make sure you have your resume ready! Much of the class conversation was about being a working mom. I applaud others for their career choices but would appreciate a little respect when speaking about my own. My husband and i are a team and we do not look at finances like that. I am a well educated woman with two college degrees. It's unfortunate because as an adult I feel like i can respect other people whose values are different than mine but not all adults are capable of such maturity.
