Excellent pizza!! I am a long standing, firm, believer that New Haven is the pizza capital of the world, and Next Door is jumping into that tradition with force. While I love the classic places, I have always loved going to Bar when I visit New Haven.. until now. Next door's pizza really blew me away and they now have the best mashed potato and bacon pizza in the city. This is now my favorite pizza in New Haven, a city where that that is truly a bold statement. The rest of the menu looked fantastic too, although we only had pizza. The atmosphere was very nice and the beer list was decent. I hope that as they rotate beers in and out it gets even better, but it has a solid foundation. This was my first time here. Since the other places where I wanted to go was close. The food was really good. I did not expect to like it so much. We had the kale salad which was excellent. Then a half meatball and half tomatoes pizza. I was very pleased with the very thin crust. The pizza was very tasty. I will come back. The only things I was not excited about it was the location. I am not a fun of that part of the city at night. Even so it was worth the trip. read more

It was fine. Everyone is nice but beware of the margarita. No red sauce, full tomatoes, no garlic. It's not good. But it's their style which is why they get a 4, I do appreciate that. Otherwise they get a 4 because of ambiance And the server was nice. Didn't offer to refund but nice enough. Will try a RED PIE next time. read more

Excellent food. We had the roasted carrots, the fennel arancini, the wedge salad, the stuffed clams AND the pizzas (the clams casino and the spicy meatball). The French 75 was perfectly spun. The decor is adorable and the service was friendly, prompt and warm. Free parking in the lot. And there's a field across the street if you want to throw a disc around after dinner. This place is a great addition to New Haven eateries. And it's not all just pizza. Apps and salad were excellent. The wedge salad had giant pieces of bacon. The pizzas, even among a very crowded New Haven field, stood out on their own merits; fresh ingredients, not oily, perfect crust. You want to make a visit here. read more

Next Door is an amazing place. The vibe is very friendly, the draft collection always great with something for everyone. The small plates are beautiful little gems of tasty. If we "eat first with our eyes" then the delicious starts early as plates like fried zucchini with squash blossoms or even the gorgeous mixed green salad come to your table. The pizza is excellent and everything they make is always fresh and often local. Through the week there is live music, trivia and even stand up. If I lived next door I would live at Next Door. As it is I make the trek there as often as I can. read more

Went there on a Thurs and ordered 2 pizzas, a red moon, and their Mashed potato pizza...beyond words, even the crust is ridiculous....Wow! So Next Door has (temporarily) shut down due to the pandemic, but they are using the restaurant's outdoor space to offer a BYOB experience that is awesome: the food is great, there is ample outdoor room so you won't find yourself waiting in line or crowded too close to other people, and the people running the place are welcoming and friendly. The menu they offer is the one found on the Big Green Truck's takeout page (https://www.toasttab.com/biggreentrucktakeout/v3). It includes not only delicious pizza--hands down, some of the best in East Rock-- but also great salads and wraps. For people who are pizza-ed out, I recommend the shrimp or chicken skewers: for $10, you get a hearty portion of chicken with a delicious plum chutney and yogurt sauce. We had our holiday party at Next Door and it was amazing! Maria and Robin made the process so easy (and dare I say, fun?!) which is not an easy feat when you are planning an event for 50+ business owners who all have their own preferences going on! We opt'd for the unlimited pizza and salad option and a tabbed bar. The bartender was on top of everything and let me know once we hit our predetermined benchmarks. Maria was there the whole night making sure that everything ran smoothly. The unlimited pizza and salad was DELICIOUS! Think, the best New Haven style pizza EVERY TIME! I was able to have Next Doors pizza at The Travelers golf tournament and it was most definitely the best pizza i have had in a very long time. The Potato pizza and Barbecue Chicken pizza are all you need to try to arrive at the same conclusion. Will always stop by when driving through CT! read more

I did enjoyed the pizza but wished the crust was crispy all the way through. The crust was mushy in the center of the pies. We had clams casino and the broccoli rabe and sausage pies. Same mushy crust on both pies. Loved the inside of the restaurant and the server was great. Also loved the doodle pads at the table. read more

This place is very nice. We had the pizza, I was surprised it was so good, nice fresh toppings, and alot of them. The spicy meatball pizza is a must, and I usually don't even have meatballs. The pepperoni and sausage was on point too. I'll definitely be back. read more

I was visiting with my family from out of town when we decided to check out this place. We walked around the building a bit trying to figure out which way to enter, thankfully a sweet woman came out and helped guide us in and proceeded to give us a tour of the place. Food was delicious with lots of beers to choose from. What really made the place for us was the outstanding service and friendliness of all the staff; I can't say enough about how nice they all were, we felt very taken care of - other restaurants take note! read more

Came here for the first time for a happy hour with a work group and had pizza and cocktails. The bartender was attentive and helpful. I was expecting average pizza that was nothing special, but every single one was great (ordered five) and the mashed potato bacon is the BEST in town- what Bar's should be. Not sorry. This is more than just a pizza place although the pizza is perfect. Everything on the small plate menu sounded so good it was hard to choose but everything was great. Ordered more desserts than we could imagine ever eating but ended up licking the plate. The sesame cake was divine. The homemade ice creams were a flavor explosion. Next door is in a class by itself. Stopped here on a friend's suggestion as I was passing through New Haven - so easy to get to from I91. What a pleasant surprise. The space is beautiful with a great feel. We ordered two of the small plate - The hummus/tahini dish, served with a large fresh warm pita and The Roasted Carrot small plate with crispy grains. Both were not only incredibly fresh and delicious, but they were beautiful. We shared perfect vegetable and the New Haven basic pizzas. The ice cream sandwich - 2 amazing cookies with homemade vanilla honey ice cream and a strawberry rhubarb tart with ice cream for dessert made for the perfect finale. Went for a tasting during New Haven cocktail week. The tasting was fantastic, and the small bites served during the event were great. Unfortunately that's where it ended. We decided to get something to eat after the tasting, so we went into the bar and grabbed a table. It wasn't terribly busy, 5 four top tables in the bar at various stages of their meal, and half of the bar was occupied. From what I could tell there were three servers and we sat for 15 minutes, without being acknowledged. The people next to us were waiting for their check, and waiting and waiting. Nothing, no contact at all, so we left. Sad because the food was good, hence two stars. read more

Bad experience! We went here to check out the place before our 16-20 person reservation in January. The bar tender had a rather dismissive attitude, which worsened when we questioned the $12/glass price on the "house chardonnay". We have been to hundreds of restaurants all over the world, and have seen many good wines at under $12. We tried a Malbec and one other and they were trash. The beers however were wonderful. The bartender forgot, TWICE to order our pizza. We did not try the food, but his condescending attitude, and the laisse faire demeanor of the manager (who made no effort what so ever to "save the sale" when we cancelled our reservation-we are business owners and make every effort to please clients) convinced us that this place is full of itself. We will never go there again. read more

I like to treat myself to a good pizza every once and a while and Next door always comes to mind. Their Clams casino pie is pretty great. Overall their eclectic selection of food, drinks and desserts is amazing and well thought out. Wish their prices weren't so high though as I'd seriously consider going more often. I am so very pleased with my dining experience here. The establishment is very clean and modern looking, with multiple rooms, bars, and an ample parking lot as well as on street parking. Upon entering I was greeted and then directed to where my waiting party most likely would be. The hostess was over-the-top friendly, offering me a compliment as she seated us and made some jokes as we settled in. Our waiter, Billy, was absolutely charming. He was able to offer great suggestions, both food and beverage wise (the ice cream sandwich is to die for and def worth leaving room to eat). All this amazing customer service, and then the food is also great!! The pizzas were perfect New Haven style. Mashed potato here beats Bar, and the spicy meatball was great. Our neighbors had the clams casino and margharita (sp?), which also looked fabulous. On top of delicious pizza, the tapas style menu looked appealing. The cocktail list and spirit selection are extensive as well. I look forward to returning and trying something outside of the very tasty beers and pizza I had last night. read more

I enjoy sitting at the front bar especially, but if you want to come in to just eat there's plenty of space. There's a good bar crowd, not too rowdy, but friendly. read more
