    Hash & Boss BLT
    Christine D.

Overall food was alright. Didn't order any drinks. Vibes are very cute. Ordered: - Brisket Hash - a bit on the salty side. - Boss BLT - bread was thickkk. a little bland to me. I like the vibes. Lots of seating especially outside on the patio. They even had outlets outside. Makes me sad that during Texas summer it's a tad too hot to sit outside sometime. Parking is limited (they have 1-2 ish grave lots). Street parking kinda sucks in the area. Roads are very narrow and not a lot of street parking available.

Good prices and lovely patio. I love how Next Door is nestled in between a residential neighborhood. I visited on a week day and it wasn't too busy at all. The baristas were friendly and welcoming. I ordered the starstruck latte - iced. Too be quite honest, my drink mostly tasted like milk. I didn't taste any notes of the other ingredients like the salted caramel, vanilla, or even the actual expresso. My fiance ordered a hot vanilla latte which actually tasted better and was more flavorful. Therefore, I feel like my review is more like a 3.5. I'd have to try another drink to see if my drink was a one off.

This place is lowkey a neighborhood hidden gem! Super duper cute with lots of outdoor seating. Love how they decorated the place with all the plants and cozy furniture. The baristas are very friendly. I ordered a pistachio latte and thought it was solid. Pistachio flavor was light and blended well with the espresso. This is a great place to sit outside and hang out with friends!

Flew all the way from California just to try this place and I couldn't be happier! The service was absolutely amazing with such friendly and welcoming staff! The food & drinks were delicious! If I could recommend somewhere, it's coming here. The asthetic was everything, so cute so chic. Definitely recommend, solid 10/10. Also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, an absolute angel!

We've been dying to check out this coffeeshop since we first saw it advertised on Instagram. Such a great addition to the Cottage Grove neighborhood. Just from a food and beverage perspective, the product is amazing. My husband and I both had hot Starstruck lattes and they were fantastic--incredibly smooth with no bitter aftertaste and the perfect amount of sweetness. Our toddler had an oat milk babyccino that he basically chugged within five minutes--we sampled this too and it was good! We also had the breakfast bagel sandwich and that was delicious. They had a lot of other yummy sounding things on their menu I hope to come back and try. For the environment of the coffee shop, it was everything we hoped it would be. There's a huge outdoor space both in the front and back, and the back patio is much more shaded and secluded. Overall, a fantastic experience and very kid-friendly and family friendly. We hope to make stopping by here a weekly rhythm.

Mont Blanc coffee - cold brew with a vanilla citrus cold foam!

I have a summer mission to try more coffee shops. This place was next on my list! It is attached to a chill looking neighborhood bar and it was a similar low key vibe. There is a small parking lot on the side. The inside is very cute, there is more patio / outdoor seating but I found a space on midday on a Friday. I did not get any food as I had recently eaten, but a lot of other people there were enjoying it. They get their pastries from a local baker and they looked yum! I got the Mont Blanc - a cold brew with vanilla citrus cold foam. It was a bit more citrus than vanilla but it was a fun and different drink than what I normally get. I definitely want to try more of what they have next time! Staff were very nice and attentive. The person behind me tried to order a seasonal drink they didn't have the exact ingredients for, but the barista went above and beyond to try to recreate the drink for him. I had a great time reading and enjoying my beverage!

My daughter and I visited for the first time, and we had such a great experience. The café is beautiful, clean, and very welcoming. We really enjoyed the coffee, it was excellent! The owner kind and knowledgeable, explaining the different coffee and recommending drinks that suited our taste. We can't wait to come back. Highly recommend!

Utterly flabbergasted. I just had the most trifling first experience at Next Door on Larkin. It was worse than I think that I could've ever imagined. This establishment needs a visit from the health inspector. There are literal pastries that are sitting out in an open area with flies and who knows whatever else, landing and laying eggs on them. I called my order in for to go, so if I would have seen this prior to entering the building, this would have deterred me from ordering whatsoever. However, when I opened up my sweet potato hash plate, there was a hair engraved in the poached egg...quite disturbing experience. when I went to return the food to the staff, they seemed unbothered and lacked empathy regarding the situation. They quickly provided me a refund, but did not apologize for the hair being in my food. I am genuinely considering reporting them to the CDC as soon as possible because that is disgusting.

I saw this place first thing in the morning today on TikTok and decided to try it out since I haven't heard of this place before! On our arrival, the parking situation was bad, like any other place in Houston, so we parked a couple streets down and worried of getting towed or getting our car broken into. When we arrived at the place, we were amazed with the amount of space of outside seating! The place looked amazing. We stepped into the house on the right and we stepped into a welcoming atmosphere. The entry was a little small for the order like but we managed to order. I got the BLT with a star truck coffee. We sat down on the patio, we picked up our drinks at the bar and our food was delivered to us. The coffee was.. underwhelming, tastes like something I can make at home, on the other hand our food was delicious and plentiful, i couldn't finish my meal! We had to go plates and left. On our debrief, we conversed about coming again trying different plates and trying their alcoholic drinks since they were seen more throughout the restaurant on people's tables. 8/10.

Nothing about their coffee I feel the need to rave about but it's not disgusting and I enjoy it. I used to get the blueberry lavender a lot but I think I burnt myself out on it. Staff are always super nice. Again pastries are amazing, and I want to say they're all made in house. Yummy

I was looking for a brunch place today, and Black Walnut really did hit the spot!…read more For transparency purposes, I came across Black Walnut because I was checking out Houston Restaurant Weeks, and the options there on the HRW menu seemed both healthy and sounding delicious too! So I was, like, okay let's go for it! Went there with a friend, we were both trying it for the first time. This place is definitely frequented by a good amount of people, so parking can get tricky. However, we did find a spot and it didn't take long, so all good there. Walk inside, and it's spacious! My friend and I opted for the quicker seating by the bar, so all good there. That's when I found out HRW is only available here during the weekdays! Ahhhhh but all good, I'm not against trying what's going on in their regular menu. My friend opted for the chicken 'n waffles. I'm admittedly on a health kick, so I ordered the egg-white omelette. It comes with fruit on the side and also a sauce for the omelette. The actual title for the omelette is the Healthier-than-the-Rest Omelette, and it lives up to that, with spinach, mushrooms, goat cheese, red onions, tomatoes, and scallions. The goat cheese is really done well here with how gooey it is and how well it goes with the omelette and the sauce. I also put a good amount of Cholula on it because I like Cholula on my omelettes and I tell you what: this dish was fantastic. I'm known as a slow eater and I devoured this in 10 minutes, no exaggeration. To go with this, I had a Pear-fect Martini, which as you can imagine, had pear flavors and was also tasty. To cap it off, I had a white chocolate mocha latte. Everything was delicious. I was vibing the atmosphere and interior design. Service at the bar was also great, friendly, with solid recommendations. I enjoyed this place! So yes I would recommend trying.

I ordered it without the scallions, and it was served with creamy garlic mashed potatoes and plenty of sautéed mushrooms. The beef was fork-tender and full of flavor, while the mashed potatoes were the perfect comfort-food companion to soak up every bit of the savory gravy. The mushrooms added an earthy richness that tied the whole dish together. If you're looking for a hearty, satisfying meal that feels like a homemade Sunday dinner, this pot roast is definitely worth ordering. Plenty of food, plenty of flavor, and absolutely no chance of leaving hungry.

But though it was pretty early on a Sunday, there was a huge crowd and it kept flowing in. So it is a popular spot in the neighborhood. There are lots of pastries and some savories to choose from.

The static fit yoga class at Duo Houston with Lesbianland was such a good time. It was outside, the weather cooperated, and the energy was just right. A whole crowd of beautiful women, good music, and a space that felt safe, calm, and fun all at the same time. Morgan Brown led the class and really set the tone. It felt grounding but still had a little spice to it, not boring at all. After class, they had matcha and acai bowls and gave us 15% off, which I love because who doesn't want a little reward after pretending you can plank longer than you actually can. Speaking of... they had a planking contest and somebody held it for over five minutes. I tapped out mentally just watching. Only thing to note, if you want coffee you'll need to walk over to a nearby shop in Autry Park, but it's super close so no complaints there. Overall, great vibes, great people, and definitely a space I'd come back to.

The place was severely understaffed for a Saturday morning. They only had one staff member who was doing all the work like taking orders and making the drinks, so it took 20 minutes in line to order, and the drink took another 30 minutes.
