Drinks were good but food was nothing special at all. Service was mediocre to low. Would not go back.

The food is just ok. We love authentic mexican and when we found out that this location had new ownership and was no longer la cantina we were happy. Ordered and the kids fries were stale and cold. Quesadilla was soggy (funny how it's hard to find someone to make a good one crispy) The ceviche had good flavor but was bizarre in that there was no liquid! It was super dry. Tacos are very good though and have good flavor. Drinks also very good. I'll go back but probably only to order tacos and a couple drinks. read more

Came in Cinco de Mayo and were fully prepared for it to be busy. There was live music and FANTSTIC FOOD! The staff met up with the busy patio on a 79 degree day beautifully. Had the grilled shrimp tacos and they were wonderful. A real gem!!! read more

I went in two weeks ago to pick up my takeout and the bar was packed shoulder to shoulder with patrons, none of them bothering to wear a mask or socially distance. It didn't seem like any mask mandates were being upheld in the least bit. It's a shame they don't seem to care about their community's health and safety. read more

This place was AMAZING!!! The photos on Yelp was what ultimately made me come here with my friend. We were greeted by the staff at the front door and seated right away (I was surprised there was no wait as we went on a Friday night)! Our waitress was very sweet and answered any questions we had. She did not come by too frequently which we appreciated, nothing worse than a waitress interrupting you every few minutes, but came by exactly when we needed her. I got the fish tacos with beans and rice. The plate came out very quickly and the food was very hot! I've had some pretty awesome fish tacos and these were definitely up there!! My friend got the shoestring fries and WOW! Those were perfectly fried and salted, some of the best fries I've had! Highly recommend this place for the food and ambiance! read more

Tried this place out because we got lost trying to find parking at the Waterfall Glen so decided to eat as we figure out where it is. Place is decorated nicely & the straws are neon color. This same owner has redone a place to serve small portions, the name should be tapas R us and mucho dineros We Charge... Gracias...Why?..... the menu portions are small and then they say we are giving you 3 tacos the size of pierogi!..But wait it gets better... the rice is now gone, and wait, the beans are gone...And increase the prices!... brilliant. To be fair, I will return, but you must remember it is the owner controlling the servings, lack of alcohol in drinks that contain mostly ice, the employees are doing a great job. And why is it so loud even when there are only a few people there?...no proper sound insulation, just look up and you will see why. One more visit and I will order a few items and update my review. The $3.75 tacos are on a shell the size of a baseball. The food is expensive and not filling or tasty. It took 8 tacos to get me full. Salsa is the worst of anywhere I've ever been. The only reason this review is getting a 4 star rating is because I want to be fair... the food was delicious! BUT..... my hubby and I order 3 tacos each, not realizing they didn't come with rice and bean. Their tacos are bite size, and leave you thinking you just ate an appetizer and wondering where is your meal. My daughter ordered the fajitas and the meal was wonderful and filling. The owners of Next Mex used to be franchise owners of Front Street Cantina (same location), and that menu had tacos that would fill you up, which also included rice and beans. The $10.00 Pink Drink was delicious BUT again, after 3 sips, it was gone. This would be acceptable downtown Chicago but not in Lemont. We went to Next Mex for dinner because we were hungry. We ended up leaving with a $65 bill including a tip, and making dinner when we got home. The service was good and the manager gave us 3 more tacos for the road in hopes that we will come back. We'll give it one more try in a few months. It's just sad because we loved Front Street Cantina, the meals were filling and the drinks weren't downtown prices. And we could sit outside and bring our puppy. Fingers crossed they get this figured out. read more

We visited Next Mex with another couple for the first time and really enjoyed it. We didn't frequent the previous version of this establishment very often, mostly because the food was marginal compared to other places we go to but we enjoyed Next Mex enough to put it on a regular rotation. I love that they have an expansive outdoor patio and corner windows that open in the bar. The temp was only in the 50's but we've been starving for some nice weather in this area so I was really happy to see the windows wide open and lots of people enjoying it. It was a nice busy crowd of people for an early Friday night. Our server was friendly and very prompt and aside from a slight mishap, which she quickly corrected and the Manager came over to apologize for, it was a great first visit. Their tequila list is huge and all our favorites were listed. The cocktails were delicious and the complimentary chips and salsa were great too. I can usually tell the quality of a Mexican restaurant by the chips and theirs were fresh, crispy and not too greasy - just right. We ordered a range of main dishes from steak fajitas to tacos and chimichangas and enjoyed everything. On one order, we asked for carne asada and got either brisket or pastor and our server didn't seem to know the difference when we asked if it was correct, but it was tasty anyway. I had a combination of cod, pastor and brisket and one was super spicy (not sure which) so I would probably try another option next time. The rice and beans on the side were excellent. I also thought the dishes and cocktails were reasonably priced. We can't wait to visit Next Mex on a warm evening so we can sit outside and enjoy their patio. read more

I found Next Mex on a whim while I was driving through the area and it turned out to be a wonderful surprise! I ordered the lunch special: 2 street tacos with beans and rice for $10. I chose the El Niño (chicken) and Al Pastor (pork) tacos and they were delicious!! Yes, they were small, but they are STREET TACOS, they're supposed to be small. Despite their size they were stuffed chock full of meat and I left lunch feeling more than satisfied with the amount. I thought the flavors were wonderful and the spices were just right. Visited for the first time the other night. Cool place, nice atmosphere. Service was helpful and attentive and the food was very good. They also have an extensive craft beer selection which is hard to find at a Mexican restaurant. My wife said the skinny margarita was really good as Can't wait to visit again in the summer time and check out the outdoor seating. Edit - just ordered it from a take out service. WOW. I quickly side stepped it, and continued into the restaurant and saw a big rat pooping on the middle of the floor, and i was disgusted, i then proceeded and got my food, what i saw inside it would changed my life forever. My family started coming here a year ago and it's one of our regular places. Very comfortable restaurant with great food and service. Prices are good too! In a world of cookie cutter chain restaurants Next Mex is a breath of fresh air. Only reason I dont give them 5 stars is their portions are a bit small. Sooo. I don't usually post bad reviews, but.... This place was awful!!! Next-Mex in Lemont. This was supposed to be Jumbo shrimp wrapped in smoked applewood bacon. Asked the waiter and he said, well here's the thing when the menu says jumbo they are jumbo before cooked. When cooked shrimp shrinks. OMG! As if. I cook a lot of shrimp I just didn't want to cook tonight. Ugh!!! Ordered a peach margarita it never came and $11 cup of guacamole. Chips weren't even GF/DF. Food and drinks were good and he server was very friendly. However the host/hostess stand was a disorganized mess. I was told we would have a 20 minute wait for a seat on the patio and i watched the hostess write my name and cell number on the wait list. After waiting 30 minutes I went to check where I was on the list. My name was erased from the list as if I was never there, the hostess had no idea. Another hostess asked if I would like to add my name back to the list and wait (meanwhile there were two empty tables on the patio for the past 15 minutes). I asked about the two empty tables and I was told they were for people on the wait list. The two hostesses really did not know what to do and just stood there. This was my first time here and I can say that this place is amazing! There was no wait which is rare for a Friday night and the service was great. Our food came out quickly and was fresh off the grill. I ordered the fish tacos with a side of shoestring fries and was blown away. It was delicious and you could taste the quality of the food. It's over an hour drive for me to come to this place, but it's well worth it and I will definitely be back to try more items on their menu. read more
