Just stack up on empanadas folks. To be specific the mac'n'cheese and mac+"beef" were the best. You also cant go wrong with yuca fries and chimichuri sauce. Our son had the sweet and sour oyster mushroom sandwich with sauce on the side and loved the crispy mushrooms inside. I had the clasico mofongo and aside from garlic, the plantains were lacking in flavor or seasoning. The cremini mushroom stew tried to salvage the dish but a giant ball of plaintains remained on my plate. Thankfully service was great and our server told us they would make some empanadas for us since the case in the front was empty. We were able to go home full and appreciated them accommodating us. I was in New York over the weekend and after walking the Brooklyn Bridge, I was hungry. I stopped into Next Stop Vegan, and it was (using a word I typically avoid), AMAZING! One of the best meals I've had in a long time. We ordered La Tabla, a sampling of the most popular dishes and it was great. The bistec was one of the best steaks, vegan or not, I've had, perfectly seasoned, amazing texture, with slightly burnt ends, exactly as it should be. The Mac and cheese was likewise perfect, creaming with a little bit of heat, so good! We ordered a pitcher of the watermelon sangria, and it too was delicious, not too sweet, a perfect blend of fruit. The service was wonderful too! I will be back. read more

My friend and I decided to go to Next Stop Vegan for lunch on a Thursday at 1pm. My friend kept seeing it pop up on Instagram and recommended it. You place your order at the register and then you can either take it to-go or they will bring the food to you at one of the tables. When I arrived, I ordered to grab a table, but most people left after the lunch rush around 2pm. The space has chill vibes and nice decor. I ordered the BBQ Pull Jack sandwich ($14.99) and my friend got the Sweet and Spicy Mushroom Sandwich, which I forgot to take a picture of the menu for the price. Note that if you get takeout from another app like Seamless, the prices are slightly higher. Both dishes came with fries. Flavors were on point for both sandwiches. The best flavor was the mushroom on my friend's sandwich. Also, if you are not a big spice fan, you can still enjoy the mushroom sandwich, since it is a mild kick. I think the fries could use a little more flavor and be more crispy. I understand that the restaurant is in downtown Brooklyn and vegan food tends to be more expensive, but I think the portion size is on the smaller side for the price. Overall, I would definitely recommend Next Stop Vegan, especially if you are visiting the Transit Museum nearby! I would come back to see if their other dishes, especially their Mofongo dishes, have similarly powerful flavors. read more

There are not many options when it comes to plant-based Dominican food, and Next Stop Vegan is a solid option. We were trying to keep it healthy, so we stayed away from the epic burgers piled with deep fried mushrooms and a lot of the heavily fried appetizers. We started with the sancocho, a hearty and warming soup filled with root vegetables. Very good. Next, we had the Jamaican stew with kidney beans, homemade dumplings, and vegetables. This was DELICIOUS. Just packed with flavor. Tons of spice and plenty of fresh cilantro. This was our favorite dish. Our final dish was the plato clasico, their signature platter with rice, beans, plantains, sautéed veggies, and avocado. The black beans were delicious. The rest of the dish was good but not as memorable as the two soups. Also, we were disappointed that their menu included brown rice as an option, but they had run out (a little after 8pm on a Saturday). Bummer since all three dishes came with a mountain of rice. Came here for a quick chill meal because a veggie friend recommended it. The menu has a lot of cool sounding options but we opted for a Philly cheesesteak and the york-mex bowl, as well as a be'f and mac empanada. Everything was super tasty! I actually didn't realize when I ordered that the cheesesteak was just mushrooms and not even fake meat, but it still tasted super good. The vegan cheese even had a nice melty quality, which I feel like vegan cheese usually can't do very well. Was really impressed at the quality of the food. The overall vibe inside was nice too, and there was ample seating. Service was also great, the guy behind the register was also the only one serving but he somehow did it all really efficiently. Oh hell yeah!! I like how they snuck the plantain into my crispy oyster mushroom burger. What a nice sweet succulent super surprise at the conclusion of the munching. The burger dimensions were so large that I had to outsource an architectural firm to clarify the appropriate angle to approach this sammich. This is really nice vegan comfort food in a low key cafe. After a fun visit to the NYC Transit Museum we decided to walk-in at 12:30 on a decent spring Saturday to this very welcoming restaurant with sufficient indoor and outdoor seating. It's a self-serve setup, so you go place your order and then have seat. We ordered a side of Mac n Cheese ($5.99) for our 3 year old which he enjoyed. We also go the Twisted Burrito ($15.99) and BBQ Pull Pork Sandwich ($13.99) as our mains. Food overall is absolutely excellent. The BBQ sandwich definitely was a lot more on the sweeter side because of the BBQ sauce, but they had plenty of hot sauce Sriracha bottles around that helped me adjust the spice on the sandwich and went really well with the seasoned fries. The burrito was delicious too, but the gluten free tortilla chips that it came with, lacked some sauce on the plate. Probably a complementary service of Guac would've paired really well with it. Service was excellent, noise level average (just background music) and they do have some excellent homemade juices too - costing $7 on an average. Overall, absolutely excellent food! read more

It is about time I post a well-deserved, 5-star review for NSV! Discovered them a few years ago, was trekking it to the Bronx for a while and then the heights. Unbelievably happy when they opened a Brooklyn location but hoping for a Queens one to come in the future. The owner is a gem, you can feel her heart in the way she speaks about her passion for plant based food and having options for the community, and to top it off, delicious Dominican plant based food. This location has meter parking outside and is close to major transportation. The inside is warm, and the staff are always welcoming and friendly. They have a main seating area right when you walk in, small outdoor eating in front of the store and recently expanded to some seating towards the back. Beautifully decorated interior and always playing Spanish music to get your body and feet moving and grooving. Prices are okay for plant based; you can look to spend $14+ for the meals and just a touch less for appetizers. Definitely recommend getting their sancocho when they have it. This visit we went with the platano power sandwich (comes with fries), the chimi (only comes with the sandwich), and loaded fries. All together came to just under $43, and they accept cash or card, no fee for cards. Their portions got slightly smaller over time, but the flavors are still there and top-notch. You can't even tell you are eating vegan food. It is not greasy either, and don't expect to have leftovers. For me, the only thing to bring it above and beyond would be to have spicy options. I've eaten here too many times to count. I find myself coming here after exploring downtown Brooklyn. I'll even pop in just for an empanada which are the best vegan empanadas I've had. The yaroa (sweet plantain) one is definitely my favorite one hands down. I love the satisfaction sandwich and the mushroom burger. We visited last weekend, and the food tasted great, portions were large, and everyone was so friendly and helpful. We had never been to their other location in Washington Heights or previous location in the Bronx, but now we know what we've been missing! We started with some empanadas, yaroa (sweet plantain, beef, and cheese) and carne (beef and quinoa), both of which were good. I would get either again. The mofonguitos de carne (also beef and quinoa) were so filling and tasty, and confirmed that next time, I need to order more items with chimi sauce. We split the twisted burrito (mushrooms, mac and cheese, beef, pico de gallo, and avocado), which was excellent and came with a side of chips. We also got some fries on the side for our kid, which were very crispy and quickly devoured. We were also told when asked that the plantakos came with fries but didn't receive any. If there was not any on the side as we were told, then we would have just ordered it in addition to everything else we ordered. Groovy day Yelpers! So I kept seeing this sign amidst my comings and goings advertising 3 empanadas for $9.99. Fair enough. But what really caught my attention was the next line after that- Next Stop Vegan Can we talk about the decor?! Fresh and airy that gives Santo Domingo vibes in the heart of downtown Brooklyn. To clarify I've only been to the Dominican Republic once but sitting inside waiting for my food I felt like I was transported back. To start, the music feels like a party, and the aesthetic is beautiful with hanging plants all around with wood paneling that says so fresh and so clean . Exquisitely clean and airy it was relaxing and peaceful. As I waited for my food to be prepared I saw a sign that said Stress Free Zone in the kitchen. The food was really tasty. I had the Mac n cheese empanadas which were pretty tasty. After a full day's work that was a message I could get behind. For appetizers we had the spring roll empanadas, which was good but a bit dry without any sauce. I found it odd that they don't provide sauce with the empanadas unless you purchase a set of 3 so we had to dry ones since we only ordered 2. They may want to reconsider this. For entrées, we had the Sweet & Spicy Mushroom Sandwich and Crispy Mofongo which were delicious! The sandwich came with fries, which were good but a little too crispy for me. I pray that future restaurant goers see this review because when I tell you that one of the BEST menu items is their oyster mushroom burger, I MEAN IT!!!! Everything about the burger was delicious! From the soft and tenderness of the pretzel bun, to the flavorful sandwich itself. The plantains inside the sandwich were sweet and tender. The oyster mushrooms were carefully seasoned with the spicy sauce to accompany it. This pretzel sandwich definitely created a balance between sweet and spicy! If you're afraid to try anything else on the menu, whether you're vegan or not, please let this sandwich be your starting point. Also, please check out their lunch menu during select days and times. My only suggestion is that it would be helpful for the restaurant to have a website with their menu posted. I've visited this restaurant a few times, so I had an idea of what was on the menu, but not entirely. Implementing a website with menu prices would help new and old customers to plan accordingly. Other than that, the customer service is ALWAYS welcoming and understanding, the food is tasty and flavorful and the owners are very appreciative. 10/10 read more
