I am participating in the Rhode Island Food Fights 9th Annual Ice Cream Event and this was my sixth stop. I was on my way to the Narragansett Indian Tribe 351st Annual Meeting and Pow Wow, but since this was on the way, decided to stop by for a quick treat. I would say the name is partially accurate, in that there is not much in the area besides some nurseries and the diner next door. They do have a parking lot and a lot of picnic tables to choose from, some in the shade and others with umbrellas. Most of their ice cream comes from Gifford's, and some are New England Ice Cream and Warwick; I liked this level of transparency. I wanted to try something from Gifford's, but I couldn't say no to the Cinnamon Bun one from New England Ice Cream. My brother chose the Cashew Caramel Truffle from Warwick Ice Cream. We asked for both in a cup with a cone on top. The cutest little girl called out our order when it was ready and handed it to us through the window. The cinnamon one was amazing and tasted exactly like a cinnamon bun; it had cinnamon, the base tasted like the frosting with hints of condensed milk, and it had chunks of dough throughout. Another spot on the RI FOOD FIGHTS #bestscoopshopri list is Next to Nowhere Creamery. I've been here a few times, and it's always good to be back. The beige building sits high in the sun, creating a shaded area for the outdoor tables. A cool respite on yet another hot summer day. The woman at the window was great, her eyes lit up when I submitted my request for her favorite on a wafer cone. I also got a water bottle and about a minute later the next window town opened and two hands stuck out. One had my bottle of water and the other held a cone of s'mores ice cream. I chose to eat my ice cream in the car with the AC blasting. This is probably the best s'mores ice cream I've ever had. Made by Gifford's, a well known high quality New England ice cream company, the graham cracker ice cream base was so good, big swirls of marshmallow cream and flat chunks of chocolate that didn't get stuck in your teeth. This is why I like asking the workers their favorite, because I wouldn't have chosen this for myself but now that I know it exists I'll be ordering this flavor from now on! read more

Great prices and the ice cream is fine, but when I go to a "creamery" I expect more creamy and fresh-tasting ice cream. This was like one notch above storebought. The oreo was mostly vanilla ice cream with a little oreo throughout. Service was fast and they have outdoor seating. read more

New England still has the best ice cream! Between those in our party we tried seven flavors. My favorite was the Maine Deer Tracks, however each one we tried was well balanced with no one aspect overwhelming the others. For example the peanut butter chocolate was perfect; both flavors held their own and the peanut butter was not too sweet or the chocolate extremely rich. Everyone left satisfied and wanting to return to try other flavors. The employees were friendly and helpful. We visited on a lovely spring afternoon and enjoyed our ice cream at the picnic tables with flowers blooming and birds chirping; all in all a lovely experience. read more

There wasn't a line, however we waited a very long time as in 10+ minutes from placing our order to getting our ice cream. Our order wasn't complicated, 2 cups of soft serve with sprinkles. We had 1 large and one small cup of soft serve ice cream in plastic cups, cost was $13.50. Ice cream was good. On a visit with family in RI my son took me to this wonderful ice cream stand for supper one evening when we couldn't decide what to eat. It was just like I remember one being when I lived here. Located in the small town of Exeter, the place was slamming with customers. I had a waffle cone with Maple Walnut and Coffee ice cream (my faves) that I just can't find in Florida. A great ice cream place just off 95 in Exeter. This was the perfect place to stop after going for a hike at Arcadia in the summer. They have a great selection of Gifford's ice cream which I am a bit fan of. I got a small (two scoops) in a waffle cone - one scoop cookies and cream, one black raspberry. The ice cream was delicious, the waffle cone was mediocre. BUT you get significantly more ice cream when you get a waffle cone versus a sugar or wafer cone. There was a nice seating area next to the building with lots of umbrellas. We were able to sit there and enjoy our ice cream with two dogs and a toddler and not bother anyone else. Last thing to note - when you arrive during the day, it will look closed because they have tinted windows. I also assume they have AC on inside. Have no fear as long as you check the open hours! A kind employee will open the window to take your order as you approach. Happy ice creaming! read more

This ice cream and novelty stand is window order/pick up only, but there is an outside seating area to enjoy your fares. I went with a small vanilla soft serve dipped in chocolate and it was delicious. It was much larger than expected for a small, and the vanilla ice cream tasted truly home made. The menu is insanely expansive, so don't worry if you're a bit overwhelmed. I wondered how they even manage to have so many options in such a small shop. Service was friendly and fast. $5.00 for the smallest cone of subpar soft serve I've ever had in my 41 years... The soft serve was below average in my opinion. They do serve hard Giffords ice cream. On our way back from Mystic, Connecticut we decided to stop for ice cream. "Next to Nowhere" was definitely that: next to nowhere! The prices are reasonable; a kiddie size homemade waffle cone and small waffle bowl for $8.50. The Cookie Dough ice cream fell below expectations as it tasted gummy and not so creamy. The side of the busy road location with picnic tables was okay. Overall, nothing outstanding here, just average. No reason to return. read more

I decided on a red velvet medium waffle cone and I would've thought it was an xlarge!! Sooo huge! I was more shocked when I saw the price. Two medium soft serve waffle cones for 8 bucks. Truly a hidden treasure. We were headed back from Providence, RI back to CT and were literally pulling off an exit to switch off on driving as I was getting tired. As we were doing this, we drove by this place and thought, hey let's stop here to get some ice cream. We weren't expecting anything special but it was a pleasant surprise. The serving size is huge and also they have some really unique ice cream flavors. If anyone is driving through this area, it's a great little stop. This adorable little spot is a nice pit stop! I was on my way back to CT after seeing a customer not too far away from the creamery. I decided to stop for a milkshake. The young lady who took my order was warm and kind. The service was very quick. The milkshake was ok. I asked for a peanut butter milkshake using their peanut butter soft-serve. I think I was expecting more peanut butter flavor. Overall it was still a nice and refreshing treat! I think my taste buds were looking for something a little more rich. I'll know better for next time. FYI, there is plenty of parking space behind the creamery (I got a 26ft hauler in there with ease) and a cute little cafe next door if you're hungry for more than ice cream. Last Sunday, the wife asked me to buy a peony at a nearby nursery, and it was unusually hot. What better way to reward myself for this errand than stopping here for ice cream! Strategically located next to the Middle-of-Nowhere Diner, there is ample parking, as well as an area of picnic tables with umbrellas to the right of the building. Next-to-Nowhere Creamery's prescription for a much-needed pick-me-up on a sweltering day was a small sugar cone of black raspberry hard ice cream. The ice cream was rich, creamy and fruity, and best of all, didn't melt too fast as I ate it while driving home. Even better, the cone was nice and crunchy - not the least bit stale. I forget what I paid, but the price seemed reasonable, and a small cone easily satisfied this man's craving. There were plenty of choices of both hard-serve, and soft-serve. I did deduct a star for awkward service. The building has no fewer than five windows in front. You are supposed to order from one of the outer windows, then pick up your order at an inner window. The problem was, all the windows were closed. Nobody opened the ordering window to ask me if I had decided yet, so I went to one of the middle windows, thinking that perhaps they were short-staffed. A young woman opened that window, and chastised me for not using the proper window. I refrained from chastising her back that perhaps her coworker ought to be a bit more attentive. Now, I don't know why they kept their windows closed when they were not interacting with customers - perhaps to keep flies out, or air conditioned air in. Next to the middle of nowhere The Next to Nowhere Creamery really is next to nowhere, or at least next to The Middle of Nowhere Diner. This makes two makes two nowhere type of places that are worth going out to nowhere to find. Of course Exeter, Rhode island isn't really nowhere but pretty close to it. The Next to Nowhere Creamery is actually easy to find, all you have to do is get on the pleasatly named Nooseneck Road that runs through nowhere and look for the big next to nowhere or middle of nowhere signs. Not exactly a lot out here so it should stand out. The creamery has some really good ice cream, both soft serve and regular and a whole plethora of cool screaming treats. The difficult part is deciding what to choose, there are enough calories on that menu to feed many third world countries. The creamery is usually packed but there is plenty of parking and the lines move quickly. Many people seem to walk over from the very cool Middle of Nowhere Diner and come here to shove a few move thousand calories into their mouths. If you are going to consume vast quantities of calories they might as well be good ones and the calories here are definitely good. There isn't a lot out this way except for some good hiking but the places you will encounter are pretty unique, eccentric and very cool. The Next to Nowhere falls into this category. Definitely worth a stop the next time you are in the middle or even next to nowhere. read more

Location, location, location. And next to nowhere is a great location. 3.5 Stars This place just opened up and seemed to have already started gathering a following. It is well placed and your typical multi window setup. They have a great large out door seating area and parking right up front. The ice cream is pretty good and they have a nice selection. They also have a large selection of soft serve. I would not put them in the same league as Brickley's; at least not yet. They have a lot going for them though. If you are not up for the trip all the way down to the coast for Brickley's, this is the best place to go. It is not that fare off of 95, it is next to one of the better Diners and makes a strong showing. I had the Chocolate Almond Yogurt and the wife has Butter Crunch and a Strawberry Cheesecake. Mine was a little gritty or granular like there were little ice crystals in it. Flavor was good; just think it was frozen too quickly. The Strawberry Cheesecake was some of the best I have had. Full of cheese cake chunks and the strawberry had real chunks, not just the syrup which makes it too over the top for me. Worth a go. read more

The employee there was so professional, she made sure to help all the customers before speaking to the news person. I think she said she was from Kentucky? Maybe she still works there. I wish I had taken a picture of my ice cream for Yelp!! It was insane and super yummy. Ok. 4 stars because although there where 2 ladies working, the service was exceptionally slow. I probably waited first in line in front of the window for 7 minutes. When, let's be serious, is an eternity when waiting on ordering ice cream. It's Hershey products so I ordered butter pecan 2 scoops in a waffle cone with health bar bits on top. These were huge hunks and chunks of health bar. The ice cream was delicious, but the waffle cone... not homemade. Just a glorified larger but thinner version of the sugar cone, although I enjoyed the classic flavor. Driving past this place, the name immediately grabbed me, as this little ice cream shop literally popped up in the middle of nowhere. It seemed like a local secret that I HAD to try out. It's the kind of grab-and-go creamery with no indoor seating, you simply order and pick up your order at a window. Their menu is EXTENSIVE; besides normal ice cream, they also have soft serve and dole whip! And they have a ton of ice cream flavors. I was immediately drawn to Deer Tracks (you can see that I'm easily bought by names lol), which was a coffee ice cream with chocolate inside. It was SO GOOD! I learned a lesson today. Never go to an ice cream place until at least a month after they open for a new season. I went today got stale ice cream ! Yes, ever leave a box of ice cream in your freezer for an extended time ? Then go to try it and its all gelled up on top ? You bite into it and you get pieces that are like gum and won't melt down ? That's exactly what I got here. First tried maple walnut, returned it, then tried choc chip. It was the same. I'm just mad they obviously used leftovers from last fall when they closed. Thats very disturbing. There is also a sign posted to back up what I said. It reads "we may not have every flavor available because due to covid19, our warehouse is no longer accepting shipments" . So I guess you just have to read between the lines and remember what I got served. Guess they'll stay open till they run out of last year's ice cream. Yikes ! Should have taken a pic. This is a perfect example of "don't judge a book by its cover". We happened to be in the area and googled for a local froyo place. This popped up and we decided to give it a try. It's road side stand next to a place called "middle of nowhere diner". They had a huge local crowd enjoying various things in their parking lot (which incidentally had many picnic tables). We all ordered just ice cream! Tried pistachio, cookie dough, maple pecan and moosetrack froyo. Their serving sizes were so huge. But most importantly, the taste was just awesome! Creamy and yummy. Price was very reasonable as well. And service, the staff was nice and quick. Overall, we will definitely go there again next time we are in the area. read more

We stopped in here after a long day in nature and a good diner meal next door at the Middle of Nowhere Diner. The ordering of the ice cream was weird with windows opening and closing and the people switching windows. The chocolate lovers ice cream could possibly be my new favorite. The good is that there is ample parking and good size servings. The bad is that there is no where to sit and it's right on a main road. I would definitely go back but probably never with small children. read more
