Hello Jonathan, I am sure you had to expect some reviews from our community at some point. It might as well be from me. Please, everyone, avoid this con artist. In my opinion, I and the rest of the board all strongly suspect (believe), there was some financial misdirection going on. Jonathan is a smooth talker, but does not react well to challenging questions. In all the time I knew him, first as a homeowner and later as a board member to my HOA, he never directly answered a single question about our money. The bank accounts ended up in a convoluted mess, which adds to the mystery about our financial situation and firms up my suspicion that we never got all of our funds back after leaving them. The accounts were such a mess, we will never really be able to know what was happening and he never provided us with the detail we needed to trace where it was all going. When I arrived in the neighborhood, the HOA board was running on fumes, with only one truly active and involved board member and no one else in the neighborhood even interested in the HOA business. Once I got involved and spurred some interest in others, he began to get more elusive. The less he answered, the more angry I got. He rightfully earned the ire of me and others here, but used our anger towards him (which only occurred because he literally disappeared for over 6 months and never even answered an email) as a lame excuse to leave us high and dry, dropping us with 1 days notice and leaving us without even any access to our own HOA bank accounts for weeks. I am giving you my opinion here, but my opinion was only formed after watching how he works. I actually started off getting along rather well with him. But the moment he realized I was paying attention and asking questions (about our finances) that he did not want to answer, he started treating me horribly. But he is very good at whining over his treatment, making himself the poor little victim. Take a tip, when someone asks you a question for the tenth time, you better answer, or get ready for reasonable people to start getting mad. I will go to my deathbed believing he stole from our funds. And to make matters worse, after managing for three years, what do we have to show for it? The properties are declining and we face major repairs all over the neighborhood totaling over $1.5million. And he never helped the board plan for these expected repairs. Now we will face a 3-5 year cycle of trying to manage the decline, until we can turn around this ship he helped steer into the rocks. Please, avoid this con artist with his fast talk and no action. Do not let him into your neighborhood and do not allow him control over your finances. He will ruin everything, just like he did to our community. And after he left (quite abruptly), we were scrambling to find keys to doors, locate contact info for vendors, and we had to remove equipment around our common areas, because he absconded with keys and codes that he refused to surrender. His haughty attitude is only surpassed by his callous disregard for every homeowner that placed their trust in him. Jonathan is a liar and I firmly believe he is an embezzler. Avoid him at all costs, or you may end up years down the road wondering how your community fell apart with literally no warning of any problems. There is so much more, so very much more he did that ruined the state of our neighborhood. I am not up for rehashing very last detail, because it makes me boil. Just know this review is not even half of what he has done to these homeowners. I wish there was a way to give this crappy company negative stars in their rating. read more

UPDATE: The incompetence and indifference of these people is epic. In January, after paying my first quarterly HOA fee of $400, I received a notice that I owed $400. I hunted down my check and called the office. The woman immediately told me that the notice was an error that went out to everyone, and I should ignore it. I asked if they were going to notify everyone that it was error; she said no. Huh. Yesterday, I got my second quarterly invoice, and (of course!) it showed an existing $400 balance. Seriously? The building this company manages is rotting, the Elevator has not been working for 3 months,, the. bannisters are rotting , the fire sprinklers do not work. What I do not understand is that in this technology filled era, where most of the online HOA companies would have a simple payment history , is not available for Nexus. This to me is actually quite annoying. To me this is one of the most basic functionality of an HOA managing company to have. Shouldn't even take that much more space or technology to build. I've had the distinct pleasure of working with a team of Nexus Smart Communities. I can say, without hesitation, that Jonathan and David have exceeded my expectations in all the situations that we have worked together. They don't view the managing process as being a routine everyday experience; instead, they know that looking for a best interest of the Association should be a "win-win" proposition. Great company, great people! I was very surprised to see 2 negative reviews. Took my time and read both: I wish Megan was more specific and less accusatory; Roger seemed very upset with Nexus over his fellow community members allegedly violating the rules. Living in HOA for 10 years and being on the Board of my Association for 4 years I can tell for sure that you can NOT just walk around and slap fines on others without following the process. Those accused of violating the rules always push back and claim no misconduct. As such, proof of violation and process are paramount to enforcement of rules and regulations. Moreover, fines/ penalties can only be imposed after due process has been followed. This is from the California Civil Code: Procedural Due Process. This form of due process requires that procedures used for determining violations and imposing penalties be fair. Elements of procedural due process include: (1) giving the accused notice of the alleged violation; (2) providing a reasonable opportunity for the person to defend themselves; and (3) giving the accused an opportunity to examine and refute the evidence. Hi! I live in a community that hired Nexus as our management company. In August of 2020, the lighting went out on part of the complex. The section where my unit is located, along with two large parking lights in this specific area. I contacted Nexus after a couple of weeks of it remaining dark at the entrance and path to my unit. The young man advised that they were already advised and working on the problem. I heard nothing back for another good 3-4 weeks so I followed up. I was then passed by that young man onto a coworker of his, to I guess work on the issue instead of his following through. I learned during that call that a mistake was made on Nexus' behalf and the wrong office for the electrician was contacted and that they would try again by contacting the correct extension of the electrical company. After another approximate week I got an email stating that the work had been completed with accompanying photos to prove this was the case. Lucky for me, because the photos showed that this wasn't my area of the complex that was fixed. I ended up being in the dark for 3 months when coming and going from my unit in the evening. I have a small dog and there is a skunk that regularly walks by the area along with 2 large rats (or something like that) that have been spotted as well. There is also the safety issue this creates for myself since there aren't any units behind me to provide light in the absence of the sidewalk and parking area lights being out. I was asked by Nexus to first gather information regarding my exchanges with them for them to add to the agenda for the December 2020 board meeting, which I promptly did. Over a week later I was told the association decided to postpone that discussion to the next online board meeting. I took their word for that. In March 2021 was the next board meeting I was allowed to virtually attend and this time I did, after fulfilling the request from Nexus again to gather all info to include for this meeting, as well as sharing photos of the dark walkway and lights. During this meeting, I learned that the board of my association wasn't made aware of my issue at all in December 2020. So at this March meeting I presented my complaint and asked for compensation. I was paying my $245 assessment while nothing was being done to make the area around my unit safe. Dave who was taking notes and going through the agenda was taking notes and assured me he would contact me in the next days to talk about some for of compensation. Dave never reached out to me. I had to reach back out to Nexus again after a month to be told AGAIN to gather all information and what was said during the meeting for Dave's review. I responded and asked for my 3 months of $245 assessment fee and reminded him that his employees had emails from me already with 2 sets of compilations of information and reminded that he had been taking notes that he should be in possession of to refer back to. It is now May 2021 and never got a response!! Never got an acknowledgment of receipt of this or any other of my efforts. I did however receive mail from my association stating that they have hired a different management company as of this month. Excellent decision on my association's part because Nexus and the folks that work in that office seem to be utterly incompetent. And I now understand why David Garibay just kept dragging his feet to match that of his employees, to make this go away for him and the company. Jonathon was cc'd on the last few emails and kept silent. It took 3 months to get the lights back on and now it's 8 months and still never got a resolution to make up for their incompetence. I am the current President of an HOA of 30 residences in Orange County, CA. When our previous management company failed to ensure timely submittal of our tax returns we selected Nexus Smart Communities (NSC) to manage our association. The transition from our previous manager to Nexus presented some challenges as we became accustomed to working with proper procedures for accomplishing HOA business. We learned that although our officers had acted with good intentions, we were not always operating in strict compliance with the rules and regulations that govern HOA's. We were spending our time inefficiently and ineffectively. NSC has gradually helped us to learn better methods for accomplishing the goals of the community. Our "Community Engager", Ellie, is really our right hand. She ensures that we operate in accordance with regulations. She helps us to achieve specific goals, like getting quotations for repairs. And she helps us to articulate general improvements such as updating the approved color scheme for the development. Speaking as a homeowners and a board member, within one week of Nexus starting, they were able to get more done for our community than our previous property management company could get done in months! Switching over to Nexus has been a breath of fresh air. Jonathan and Leah and both very professional and have been handing all our requests and needs in a timely manner with great communication. Our previous property management (Lordon) was stuck in their old ways. Everything was done (if done at all) extremely slowly. We also had issues with vendors coming out to do work, but the work wasn't always done correctly. My favorite thing about Nexus is they require proof from vendors to verify the job is done properly. Nexus has an app all homeowners can use to submit work orders, with Lordon, you'd be lucky to even have them answer the phone. I love how Nexus doesn't rely on a person dependent process, but has multiple teams to handle requests/issues. With Lordon, our property manager was essentially responsible for everything, which is overwhelming and difficult for one person to succeed. I have never been delinquent in my hoas and they are sending me to their attorneys when they themselves have made a mistake in not processing my payments and not establishing my auto payments . Raina gets 5 stars but unfortunately others on her team get negative stars. All of my interactions with her have been very pleasant and her coworkers should take notes from her excellent service. Raina is responsive, professional and is actually helpful. On the other hand, Ellie is terrible and the reason for a less than stellar review. Instead of being helpful and providing exceptional service to her customers, Ellie is argumentative, provides unhelpful information, speaks without knowing the facts, contradicts herself and makes excuses instead of finding resolutions. I have never encountered such terrible customer service from someone in a role that is being paid to manage things appropriately and competently. Rather than finding an appropriate resolution and doing the right thing, she would rather provide you with her ignorant, uninformed and incorrect opinions. This attitude of "how can I be unhelpful" is shameful and bad for business. Looking forward to her no longer being assigned to my community. read more

I want to make sure everyone is on the same page. Nexus terminated the contract with my association effective September 30, 2021, which you are entitled to do. I left my review on October 1, 2021. At that point, your company has no reason to use my personal information. Then 11 days later you thought it was appropriate and not at all unethical to search out my private phone number in company documents to contact me regarding an unfavorable yelp review? Like I said on the phone, your behavior is unprofessional and inappropriate. We no longer do business with you so you shouldn't be using my personal information in any way, e.g obtaining my phone number and calling me under the guise of "discussing my yelp review before you reply online." You and I had no contact prior to you calling me. The fact you felt you could you use my information in this manner is concerning. I was not misinformed by anyone. I attend the board meetings. I heard 1st hand from a representative employed by you. If I was misinformed it was by your employee. You seem to only be focusing on one item, terminating the contract. That's the least of my concerns. You don't get to negate my experiences because you don't like them. Feel free to make whatever excuses you want. Respectfully, calling me a liar isn't going to work. This is by far the worst company we ever worked with. They lie and are unresponsive to our homeowners inquiries. Their online portal is a joke. Nothing works and shoddy design with very user unfriendly features. When you email them they just say we do not take care of such. The manager Jonathan will send you emails with lies. Jonathan and his team are very active and responsive. Whenever you have any questions or concerns, they response back to you very quickly. They are very professional and follow rules and regulations. A lot of things happen in the community whether in a good way or a bad way, Jonathan and his team handle it in a professional way. So far, I and a lot of other homeowners are happy when we switched to Nexus. Their system offers a lot of flexible ways to pay monthly HOA fee such as pay online, setup automatically payment ..etc. It's a basic functionality however some HOA companies can't even offer you that. My community recently switched to Nexus Smart Communities. A few days ago I received a letter in the mail with the announcement, as well as some paperwork that I needed to complete and send back to them to get my new account up and running. I filled out the paperwork and emailed it back to them and they emailed me back immediately and within a few minutes I was completely set up (account, auto-pay, paperless communications). I couldn't believe it! It used to take at least 3 emails, 3 phone calls, and 3 weeks of waiting for our previous property management company to respond to me. About four years ago our property manager David Garibay introduced Nexus Smart Communities to the board, as we we're not happy with our existing management company. We listened to Jonathan De La Torre pitch his company, I was very skeptical as to can they really do what they said they could do, also we had David Garibay as our manager and wanted to keep him at our community. We made a decision to make the change to Nexus Smart communities and to keep David Garibay and we have never looked back: NSC did everything they promised. Our property manager David Garibay has been a blessing for Cypress Village he works hard he has the Boards back and always has us covered. On August 14, 2021, the alley & greenbelt lights stopped working. This has happened several times in the past. I never called about it assuming that someone else would call and report it. In the past, it would take several days before the lights were back on, so this time I took it upon myself to report it. I sent an email on August 14 and by the following night, the lights were working again. I had the pleasure of meeting Hailee Ray and she was pleasant and professional. I had one more issue I emailed about here in the complex and it was taken care of just as quickly. I must say that I am very impressed at the service provided and their customer service is top notch!
