    Kitchen Rigatoni
    Greg A.

I can see how this restaurant made the Yelp list of top 100 restaurants in the USA. We started with the Mozzarella en Carrozza appetizer...their fresh tomato sauce is superb. I ordered the Kitchen Rigatoni as an entree. Unique and delicious. This is a true family-run trattoria, very welcoming servers. The zeppole for dessert were the best I ever had. It was a bit loud at times, but that's mostly because there was a large party next to us. It gets crowded, make a reservation! Enjoy!

First timer here post COVID. I was nervous to try a new spot because the quality of food in most restaurants have gone down since the pandemic. But the reviews on google were positive and how bad can you mess up Italian food? I decided to order the chicken cutlet sandwich and pasta. I was craving penne alla vodka but it wasn't on the menu. I called and spoke with the hostess to place my order. She said they didn't have penne all vodka, but the kitchen could make it for me, as they've done it before. It would cost $18. My stomach was happy and waited 25 min as recommended before picking up my food. When I got home, I was disappointed I did not get penne alla vodka as promised and instead was given their regular pasta dish, penne sicilia. Taste wise, it was okay. But that's not what I wanted. The hostess should have called me back and told me they couldn't make the penne alla vodka as planned. I would have ordered something else. The cutlet sandwich was very good. Fries were still crispy and hot. The chicken was crispy, well seasoned and tasted fresh. The bread was crispy, not soggy like others, despite the sauce on the bread. I added some spinach to it when I got home to give it some color. I wish there was more sauce on the sandwich, but thank God for chick fil a sauce! I would return and try out another dish, but would be sure to check my order before leaving. It was very crowded on a Saturday night, which is a good sign.

    Seafood pasta and chicken.

Amazing Italian food and they don't charge you an arm and a leg. It's a cute, quaint restaurant with excellent service and very good food. BYOB

Decor offers a taste of Italy and adds to the charm. Started with a few apps and a chicken parm for the table to share. The Carciofi alla Giudia, the classic Jewish-Roman deep fried artichokes were beautifully presented. A good bit firmer than you'd find in Rome but were still well enjoyed and recommended. Tonno salad with fresh seared tuna was plentiful and packed with flavor. Speaking of flavor the porchetta sandwich was rich and delicious. Really this is closer to a bbq pork than authentic porchetta but still recommended. The star of the show is the chicken parm and eggplant parm. The eggplant was delicate, thinly sliced melt in your mouth. Luckily you get a huge plate. Chicken parm is also excellent and HUGE. While there is $10 plate fee if sharing a main they are fine if you order several items and share all. Very generous with their shaved Parmesan if requested. Prices on the higher side but not all that bad considering the quantity. This feels more like the type of place you come to with a large group than as a couple. Unless of course you are very hungry. Service is excellent.

We ordered a bunch of stuff to share amongst 6 of us today. We started with the Fried Artichokes, Meatballs, and a chicken Parmigiana. Huge portion of chicken Parmigiana, very flavorful meatballs 3 in an order and the 3 very sizable fried artichokes. Joshua our waiter, was amazing and made sure we tried lots of different items from the menu. Then after we finished that, we had the beet salad, a salad with rare tuna, Eggplant Parmigiana and a pork panini. The Eggplant parm was so light and delicious! not a huge fan of fennel but the salads were delicious. The sandwich was full of flavor and made perfectly. This was a great meal at a great price.

Really extensive menu with very reasonable prices for the quality and quantity of food. The spicy calamari is a must try and every entree and pasta are worth trying, too. Met one of the owners (two brothers) and this is a family run business with a benefit to the community. I will definitely come back on the next visit to Newark and would highly recommend if you're in the area (especially if you are staying at Newark airport overnight!)

For appetizers, we got zucchini chips, fried calamari and mussels. The calamari was fried too hard and it had a very salty, spicy Chilean type sauce over it. The zucchini chips were thinly sliced, lightly battered with Parmesan cheese sprinkled over them. They were decent but nothing to write home about. In fact, after having about six or seven of the zucchini chips I began to experience heartburn from the grease. For entrees, my husband had the chicken parm. He said it was too thick and should have been flattened more before frying. It was also very breaded. My brother-in-law ordered the chicken and waffles and he said the chicken tasted day old so after having a bite of one piece of the chicken he pushed the chicken aside and called it a day. I called the waiter over and informed him about the chicken tasting day old. He didn't try to change it out or take it off the bill or get a manager. He just apologized by saying I'm sorry. My crab Mac and Cheese was decent. It wasn't seasoned the way I would have liked but the huge, plentiful chunks of crab made up for that. I ate a third of my dish and packed the rest for home where I will doctor it up to my taste. I've never been to this particular restaurant before. The only reason we came today is because my brother-in-law was here on business and staying at a hotel in the area.

Pasta Flavio: where it's not all about the Flavor, for better or worse…read more To be fair, this order was takeout, so the judgment is mainly on the food, and nothing for the ambiance. Service was on time, order was done correctly... we _think_. To be clear: * Don't rely on the menu descriptions. The alfredo sauce, for example, is not the creamy texture you're used to. It's cheesy bits in oil. Not bad, but not what I was expecting. And "truffles" were invisible - just the oil, not shreds of mushroom. * Compared to my favorite local establishment, The Pasta Shop in Denville, the pasta is a noticeable step lower in texture. There are fewer varieties of pasta here than the Shop, but on the other hand, much more customizable plates. The Pasta Shop is set up where you can order from their standard menu or their daily specials, withhold an item if you're allergic. Here at Flavio, you can choose your meat(s), sauce(s), toppings (up to 7, and then I imagine you can choose more at a cost). And you get a lot of meat - my chicken was hidden in the photo, but stirring turned it all up. And it wasn't too salty, and nicely grilled. But the other toppings, you get less. My arrabiata pepper was shredded in very sparse amounts. Struggled to find other veggies. Only a few garlic cloves, tho nicely roasted. Verdict? Will sacrifice quantity (of what can be ordered) for quality and stick with The Pasta Shop.
