I dinned at Nick's German Kitchen a couple of weeks ago on a particularly temperate January night, and we had such a great time! My boyfriend and I went to Germany about two years ago, where he ate schnitzel every single day he was there (for a week), so when he found this place so close to our house, he berated me until we tried it. A standout favorite for this spot is that they give you blankets when you sit outside which (in my opinion) should be a standard in restaurants with outdoor seating. Our waiter was super friendly and really knowledgeable about the menu, which is always great when dining with my boyfriend who is known to order whatever is most recommended. We started with the spaetzle (which will be replacing my current go-to mac and cheese order) and then had the Frankfurter Schnitzel and the Jägerschnitzel. Everything was tasty and cooked to perfection! We had to order the Schokokuchen for dessert which was incredible, rich, chocolatey, and the perfect end to the meal. We had a great night and would definitely go back. It will absolutely be added to our favorite dinner spots! read more

The food is awesome! Make reservations. We sat at the bar and the bartender was great. He gave really good recommendations and we loved every thing he recommended. First start off with the Hefe-Weizen beer. They serve it in a nice chilled glass and a great way to start the next enjoyable 1+ hours of tastebuds delight! The pretzel is a must! It's served warm and was so so so soft. It will make you regret you ever ate one at the mall or carnival. We had the jagerschnitzel and the breading was perfect. I think any of the schnitzels would be great. The bartender told us about a special off-menu item that included 3 types of bratwurst. Each one had a unique flavor for the others. My favorite was the peppercorn one. It was one of the best dishes we ever had. This is an absolutely must get dish! For dessert, the apple strudel is the way to go. We love Nick's, and have enjoyed dining here for multiple years now. If you're looking for authentic, delicious German food then you need to make a visit. The interior has a bar for dining, and tables to accommodate 2 or more. Plus there are outdoor dining tables when the weather is nice. Inside it can get a little noisy when full, so be prepared. But the enthusiasm of dining here makes it fun. I always enjoy a good German beer to start, especially a Dunkel beer. Favorite apps include the warm pretzel with hot German mustard, and my favorite is the bratwurst. The modern German fare offers 6 different schnitzels, pork medallions, a chicken or veggie spaetzle. My favorite schnitzel is the Jager schnitzel with it's crispy pork cutlet, spaetzle and creamy mushroom gravy. My husband recently ordered the veggie spaetzle and it was equally delicious. Occasionally they have a different special on the weekends, and my favorite is the rouladen. You can't find this delicious Germen specialty in Charleston, so I always order this when available. We went there for dinner last night, Saturday. I made 645 reservations, which said patio when we got there it was so hot we end sitting at the bar. It was a little bit warm. Nice atmosphere service was very good. Everyone was friendly. Especially enjoyed the German beer. We got the bread dumpling as an appetizer. If you're a fan of Campbell's cream of mushroom soup, as I am, the sauce was an upgrade of that flavor. My wife got the chicken paprikash. I got the Yeager schnitzel. This restaurant has been on my want to go list for quite some time and we finally made it last night. It was a Tuesday night and it had a good crowd. Wait staff was amazing. Now for the food, it was amazing started off with a pretzel and beer for our entrées. We had a variety of schnitzel. I had the Jager schnitzel, and it did not disappoint. Cozy little German restaurant in Mount Pleasant almost hit a home run. Our party ordered a pretzel and potato pancakes for starters. The pancakes had great flavor - definitely recommend. The pretzel didn't impress - it was ok, but it seemed to be of the same quality you'd get at a ballpark. The mustard was delicious though. Kind of a miss, though. Our entrees were all delicious. We were greeted and the menu was explained I cannot tell you how badly I've wanted to come here and hadn't had the chance I was so glad to make it over! Everything we had was outstanding start to finish. This included the dumpling special, We each got an entrée, the chicken Spatzel and the black Forrest schnitzel m... We shared a bottle of wine and it was half off wine night, which was even better not a lot of places you can get a great bottle of orin swift for half off... Finished off with the chocolate soufflé, which I was very impressed with. Weiner, Jaeger, Black Forest - they are all great. Nick always personally greets you, nice touch. Table service provided by Leander is outstanding. Very friendly family run place right on the connector. We actually went there in our bathing suits on the way home from the beach, which appalled my wife, but Nick the owner was very inviting and said he didn't care. Well Decorated place with authentic German food. Nicely size portions. I'm a big eater and I did not leave hungry. This is really a lovely German restaurant, but a small menu and a bit pricey - and completely a la carte, which hikes up the bill. Having lived in Germany for many years, I can say the food definitely had that genuine flair. However, the potato pancakes were a bit underwhelming. This was a home run! The food was absolutely delicious! We arrived for our 6 pm reservations and we were seated immediately. We ordered a few Hofbrau Dunkel German Beer (dark larger). It was very cold and served with a cold mug... it was perfect and not too heavy. We started with a few appetizers to include the pretzel(which was so soft and also perfect) and the potato pancakes. They were served with applesauce and a little salad. Delicious. And then the real deal .... The meal!! Omg probably one of the best meals I have had in a very long time! I had the Jagerschnitzel, which was a breaded pork cutlet served over homemade spaetzel and topped with a creamy mushroom sauce. So light and amazing! Sat at the bar because we didn't have reservations on a Friday which was right down our ally anyway to sit at the bars. It is a small quaint restaurant. Note we are from out of town and visiting the area. Staff and owners are fantastic and very friendly and engaging. The owners are from Germany where they had a restaurant and we talked at length. I had actually been to the city they were from and we had great exchange. Service was great. Food was fantastic. German beers in bottles and cans. While it would be great to have some on tap this is a small restaurant and it makes sense for freshness since wine is a large option as well. If you enjoy German cuisine this is done well. So few German restaurants around and so glad we found them. Outside dining with blankets and heaters which is very European. Will definitely stop again if we ever get back to town. Prost. read more

My family of five and I had a marvelous celebration dinner at Nick's last evening. Having lived in Germany long ago and having traveled there many times, I can say that Nick's is certainly the best German restaurant in the Charleston area. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. The setting was unpretentious and intimate. My two young grandsons enjoyed their meal and the four adults each had different dishes and all were terrific. It was a cold night and our party enjoyed multiple cups of mulled wine, which really warmed us up. The menu had plenty of options. We had the potato pancake and pretzel appetizers, and an assortment of schnitzels and pork chops for our entrees. Everything was flavorful, filling and comforting. We had a fabulous apple strudel and chocolate molten cake for dessert. Both were phenomenal. As someone who frequently travels to Europe, this experience was as good, if not better than any of the German food we have had in our travels. Finally got out to Nick's German Kitchen and oh man, it was just as amazing as I hoped it would be!! We tried the weekend special appetizers of barvarian bratwurst with bacon fried potatoes and creamy sauerkraut; and the pilzknodel which is a bread dumpling in a creamy mushroom sauce. Hubs had weekend special entree of schweinebraten which is pork roast, a bread dumpling, beer gravy and apple red cabbage. I ordered off the regular menu and got Jagerschnitzel which is a breaded pork cutlet with homemade spaetzle and creamy mushroom sauce. I've had Oma's cooking and been to Germany - the spaetzle is honestly some of the best I've ever had! It's definitely pricey but it's absolutely worth it. We sat outside and they provided warm comfy blankets which was so nice. We were too full to eat strudel so we got a slice of Black Forest cake to go - it looks just as amazing as everything else tasted! read more

The Hungry Detective returned to Nick's after its reboot from Mezzo...Best German food on the East Coast and I lived in Germany back in the day...so lucky to have this little gem right here in Charleston. The chef/owner runs the back of the house and his wife runs the front and it's a perfect combo. I had the bratwurst appetizer to start and it was fantastic over potatoes. The lamb shank was my main dish and it was over the top...cooked to perfection accompanied with mash potatoes and fresh green beans.
