I wanted to like this place. Just left had some drinks and food, staff was great except the door man (Monday night). We had a great time until the end of the night there was a man, the the door man said worked at the bar, he was clutching a screwdriver while muttering to himself "drop the screwdriver". When I brought this to the attention of the door man he got obstinate with me and said what are you talking about!? The guy that who works here? I again tried to explain myself and told him what happened and the door guy was rude and dismissive. If you want a place to go and feel safe this is definitely not the place. Well, I have to start by stating that I have never been to Buffalo nor Detroit, so I can not speak for authenticity, but as far as being fun, welcoming, with cold beer, whisk(e)y, and killer bar food, it nails it to the wall. Cocktails on draft are very well balanced and using quality ingredients. Attention to detail was not missed with the classic beer neons and signs. Personal favorite are the Shlitz lights near the bathroom. Wings are good and I am happy to see that there is no ranch served with them. Place is priced very fair as well. My cousin is the Mc for trivia night and told me to come on by. Parking was easy and it wasn't too crowded on a Tuesday night. I'm giving 4 stars for the awesome, attentive service and even more awesome drink prices. They also have my favorite beer , the Peacemaker, on draft for $4! I have yet to find a place with this on tap. I like the place and wish it was closer to where I lived because I'd be a regular. I will WARN you. My friend and I ordered food from the trailer. The prices were decent and it was fast service. I had the loose burger and he the coney. We compared notes and to say it politely come around lunch time the next day we both had very unpleasant visits to the bathroom. Finally, at the entrance you'll find a gentleman who isn't just "some door guy": he's essentially the uncle of the bar. It doesn't matter what you're going through in life; he'll always have some random insight or hard-hitting one-liner that just so happens to be exactly what you needed to hear at that exact second, even if you don't realize it right away. I had a pretty bad time at this bar. First off It was "Whiskey Wednesday" and they charged me 9 dollars for an old grand dad. What! Oh but I got a small discount for their gimmick Wednesday. I have lived in this neighborhood for almost 20 years and was offended at the New Austin prices for a neighborhood bar. We also were not alerted to the Makers Mark being 15 dollars a drink with measured pours. I was just at a fancy french restaurant where the same drink was 6. After dinner last night, my friends and I decided to walk on over and check out one of our old favorites and see what the new bar Nickel City was like. The old cigarette and leather smell was gone from the old Longbranch Inn. We walked up to the bar and I noticed the new cream leather arm rest. I clearly saw the huge liquor section and the beers on tap. As this was a new bar and all new bars now have a speciality cocktail menu, I proceeded to ask, what do you have, what's good? The male bartender looks behind him and turns back to look at me and says "liquor and beer". The tone in which it es delivered was not appreciated nor did we think it was funny! No sir! I thought to myself. I say to him " clearly you guys aren't the Longbranch, so where is your speciality cocktail menu?" This is when his attitude changed. If this was their soft opening, I'd try to make sure that I was pleasant and explain their concept and drink menu to the new patrons. The outdoor sitting was tight and uncomfortable. All my years of going to Longbranch, never did I feel so squeezed in to an outdoor space. And if the two guys sitting outside were the owners, I'd boast about my accomplishments in private. If they were trying to respect the Longbranch, sorry you didn't. The neighborhood dive bar is gone; replaced with speciality craft cocktails. I will say this, good job on the restrooms! Ok might have gone to the best bar ever last night. Imagine the cocktail care and precision of Atta Boy or Zig Zag with the atmosphere of a small town pub in upstate New York with possibly the fairest prices available and bar food with extremely high quality ingredients on a very small markup and kept simple on the menu so it fits the scheme. Was heaven. Absolute heaven. When I go from drinking a barrel selected Weller whiskey to a Oaxacan old fashioned to a Ferrari and cider to Coors banquet and have an absolutely to die for slider for $3.18. Then I cycle through the drink list again in a comfortable rustic setting glossed with antique bar architecture without the pretentiousness of the typical new industrial cocktail club or gimmicky bartenders looking like barbers in an attempt to vaguely resemble prohibition. No this bar was perfect. It was welcoming. It screams dive on the outside but sings perfection for those that cross its threshold. Highly recommend for cocktail aficionados and those that just want a cold beer and maybe some curds to kick off the rust from the day. read more
