Be careful with this store!!!! They deceive buyers. Sent my 15-year-old son to purchase bread and a piece of sausage. Receipt: bread=3.95, cookie=0.80, sausage=15.23. Put sausage on the scale home = 0.185 kg. The actual price about $25/kg The cashier tricks a teenager, by simply adding $10 to a bill. This is the second time I see cheating there. The previous time (1.5y ago) they put some stuff by the corner on the scale that added 180-200 grams to a product. I bought only a small piece, so I raised the question of why the price was doubled. The server did not look at me when I told her the baked goods that I wanted from behind the glass. She also did not look at me when she asked me to repeat the last item. That was impolite. When my friend asked her about the taste of the sausage, she said she did not know and she just asked us how much did we want. Usually, the server would ask the customers about the weight of the food and not asking for the price. She was not trained well. Moreover, she put the 'brownie' (small bite size) and the 'chocolate cheesecake' slice (the chocolate was only on the top surface of the plain cheesecake) in one bag and the 'rum ball' (they had rum ball with marzipan or walnut as well) and the small ''mud pie with chocolate' in another bag. It was actually just a chocolate cake coated with chocolate; mud pie is not supposed to be cake and it is not coated with chocolate. We did not know why she separated the items for us into different bags without asking us first. It would be inconvenient to carry them and those items might disintegrate inside paper bags. So we asked for a box. She should have known to do this because that was common sense (paper bags are never for cakes). In addition, they put the discounted boxes of chocolates (which appeared dusty) on the shelf above the back door. It was difficult to reach them. Also, there was a bee flying inside the glass case around the baked goods. We would not return because they were not knowledgable about the products and they did not care about service. P.S. The rum ball tasted good and the brownie tasted okay. However, the cheesecake was actually a lemon cheesecake and the cheese taste was minimal. The 'mud pie' had a weird orange taste. They should not mislabel the products. The cheesecake and the mud pie were dry as if they were on displayed for a long time. They should not mislabel the products. read more

Small bakery with a large selection for a reasonable price. I tried a bunch of different treats: an assortment of donuts, buns and a cheesecake. The buns and cheesecake were okay, but the donuts were sweet, fluffy and soft. I really enjoyed them, especially the plain glazed donuts and the cheese filled donut. Nickel was overall more of a 3.5 / 5 for me. But pricing and selection were great. read more

Unbelievable find in North Vancouver! Any doughnuts lovers out there who doesn't love a good doughnut at a great price! Yes it's the year 2023 and month of March! No line up and so fresh. Bought a 1/2 dozen to try different fillings and if you look closely they have peanut butter! Not a lot of filling in the jelly doughnuts but they were so fresh! I really didn't mean to come here and buy a dozen doughnuts, but the sweet and savoury aroma of freshly baked goods just made me do it. Nickels plain glazed doughnuts are the best! They're massive, soft, fluffy, and are fried to perfection. You definitely need to come here first thing in the morning, the doughnuts are still warm! read more

I was just walking by and was attracted to the pastries in the window... there was one other customer waiting for his order so I just looked around. There were some day old pastries and donuts so I picked up a bag of donut holes for $1! Nice! And then I bought a Nutella donut which was what I originally wanted. The BEST doughnuts in all of Vancouver. Seriously. Not cake doughnuts like Honey's in Deep Cove, which are pretty good; these are even better. Real yeast doughnuts with a light sugar glaze. I love the plain ones, but the raspberry jelly are also fab, as are the poppyseed/raisin. Good sausages, good challah bread, nice people. read more

Portugeese bans are spectacular - so are the most of the pastry they sell! A must have in the food arsenal of any self-respecting Canadian/European who needs both top quality and great prices. Properly-made European breads, pastries, shelf foods, fresh sausage, wafers and hard-to-find chocolate/candy bars. So much from so small a front-end store (the working bakery takes up most of the total floor space). Although the breads and rolls are generous and delightful, we love this place for its variety of delicious cakes, poppy seed rolls, huge doughnuts (move over Honey Doughnuts, the large and heavy glazed donuts here are $1.00 and the filled are not much more), and traditional fruit-filled pastries. And day-old products go for a song. Nickels is a gem and a destination for Vancouverites in the know. read more

A true old world bakery in the heart of Lonsdale, which is incidentally right across the street from me. Fantastic fresh loaves of bread, a beautiful dessert case, and lovely yeasty doughnuts made fresh daily. So much better than those horrible frozen & nuked ones from TH's down the street! The service is quick and friendly, and on top of their baked goods, they also carry a huge array of Eastern European (mostly Polish) condiments, frozen foods, packaged mixes, meats, cheeses, and even magazines!
