Came here based on a recommendation from a family member. Car was having issues and had no idea who to take it to or where to go. I waited until a Monday to take my car to the shop. I got there at 9am and saw that the shop was still closed. I called the number listed and someone answered right away telling me he was running late. When Rafael got to the shop, he immediately apologized and took my car for a spin. Within minutes, he had determined what was wrong with the car. I was so worried it was going to be a costly fix. He was able to determine the cause of the issue, he did this/that and it took him about 15 minutes total. At the end, he told me he had fixed it. He refused to take any money from me for such a "quick, easy fix" but we tipped him anyways and told him to at least buy lunch, on us, since we had been so stressed that the issue was going to be a big one. We left and haven't had any issues with the car since BUT if I ever do - I know where to take my car. read more

Took our vehicle in to get checked after taking it to another shop to get our brakes fixed and noticing a burning smell and a broken e-brake. Rafael was amazing. He Checked the vehicle and noticed the work had been done incorrectly and could have possibly caused an accident. Not only did he redo the work with new parts but he kept our old parts to show us proof. It's hard to find an honest mechanic, with reasonable pricing, so we are glad we came across Rafael and his shop. Excellent and honest service! I've had a regular trustful mechanic for years now but he doesn't work on air conditioning. I bought a used car that needed to have the air conditioner refreshed and he suggested I take it to Nicks. I made an appointment to take it in and I was a block away and my car broke down! What timing. I called Rafael and he came and got me and towed my car to his shop. I hadn't even met him prior to this and I was so happy at his response. The problem ended up being the fuel pump which was replaced and he fixed the air conditioning. I have since taken my car to Rafael to have the Check Engine Light diagnosed and fixed. This place is laughable ... I would give it zero stars if that were an option. I cant understand how it has so many 5 star reviews!?! i went for an oil change quoted @$45.oo 6 hours later when they called me to pick it up i was billed for 3 other things that i did not give consent to "fix" 1) they emptied and refilled the resivoir for my wipers, 2) they replaced a DIM bulb in one of my lights. 3) the labor or all of that. Knowing I had a 300 mile drive back home, Rafael took great lengths to diagnose, fix and test my vehicle until he was confident that I could make it home successfully. Rafael stayed late and worked overtime, despite the fact that I was an out-of-town customer. Rather than inflating my bill by replacing likely culprits like the alternator, Rafael investigated until he found a loose sensor connection. My bill no way accounted for all the time he put in, I was so blessed by the affordability and his concern that my car be fixed correctly. My only disappointment is that I don't live in the area to make this my regular mechanic. During a recent visit to the Bay Area our Toyota 4Runner began to perform erratically. The engine unexpectedly began to strain, the car slowed down, the gear shift light on the dashboard changed to R(everse) and the check engine light came on. After pulling off the road and waiting a few minutes the engine would perform normally again. We found Nick's Auto Repair close to our daughter's home. Rafal (the current owner) had never seen this problem before but was tremendously helpful. The code on the check engine light was no help. Rafal put a substantial amount of time and effort but only billed modestly because it was such an unusual and hard to diagnose condition. He eventually replaced the circuit board behind the instrument cluster. That did the job. We could not be more pleased and would highly recommend Rafal. FYI: The shop is a bit hard to find in the midst of a residential neighborhood and the parking is a bit limited - but do not let that discourage you. You will not find a more dedicated and reasonable auto mechanic. read more

He came to my home to check out my car as he was not wanting me to drive it to the shop in case I got stuck on the road. He checked it out and decided it would be safe enough for me to follow him to the shop which I did. He had the scope machine put on it right away while I was there and showed me to items that came up as possible issues. *How many mechanics do you know that make housecalls? He then wrote up my service/check out paperwork and he and his secretary took me back to my home. *How many mechanics do you know that will take you back home after dropping off your car? He called me with what needed repairing and the cost. He was great about the price and we came to an agreement. He not only fixed my car but he bought touch up paint from the dealer and touched up the dings and also washed the car. I asked him when I could pick it up and he said no need we will bring it to you. REALLY, deliver my car? And he did. *How many mechanics do you know bring your car back to you after it's been repaired? MY car runs great and it's awesome having a heater that works now without having to wait until I get to where I'm going before it heats up. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....... First, let me say that I'm 60 years old, have owned many autos in my lifetime, have had dealings with many mechanics and shops over the years and my calling Nick to provide service on my MB is a direct result of the reviews given on Yelp. On the initial phone call, I spoke with Nick who was courteous and receptive. I bought my car in the same day, explained my concerns and a little about my history with the vehicle. He test drove my vehicle with me as the passenger. He explained things that he observed and by the time we came back to the shop, I decided to leave the car for the basic oil change, lube and filter change. I told him to assess what other repairs might be needed. He asked if I needed a ride, but I did not. That evening when the agreed upon services were complete, he called me, my son drove my to the shop and the first thing I noticed was that the car had been washed. My friends, NO SHOP I HAVE EVER BEEN TO HAS WASHED THE CAR AS PART OF THE SERVICE except dealerships. Nick fixed my power antenna and replaced light bulbs as needed as a courtesy. He went over the things he felt needed repair in the future and outlined in what order they should be completed and why. The information was written on the service report/receipt for reference. I feel bad that I'm so lazy that I have never posted a Yelp review, so this review might not carry as much weight as the Yelp regulars on here. But look at it this way, Nick and Nick's Auto Repair were so good, they compelled me to get off my butt and write this virgin review! They did a 100k tune up on my 2004 Honda Element and, while is wasn't necessarily cheap, it was thorough and my car runs great. So I am very confident that I got good honest value and service for my money. Nick didn't try to up-sell me and even told me the things I don't need to worry about at this point. Also, due to a pick up time misunderstanding, he even threw in an optional part change for free which was very very nice and thoughtful. But here are the truly AMAZING above and beyond things that make Nick's the best- 1) He noticed my airbags weren't working/on/activated (?!?!). He was familiar with this Honda seat belt malfunction issue and contacted the dealer, got the part, and TOOK MY CAR there and got it fixed free, under the warranty! (All for the original quote!) WTF...Insane service!?!?!?!?!?!? 2) He noticed a dent on my tailgate and pretty much fixed it and was APOLOGETIC that he didn't have the right touch up paint handy (?!?) We never even discussed this dent. And this was no easy dent you could suck out with a suction cup- it was on the lip of the tailgate. You now have to get up really close to actually see it. Again- amazing, unexpected, above and beyond service. 3) Nick dropped my spiffed up car off at my house at like 8PM on a Friday. I repeat- THEY SHUTTLED MY CAR TO MY F-ING DOOR STEP. LOL. He even brought all the old parts from my car that he replaced in order to verify the work had been done! They even cleaned the car- mirrors, windows...AMAZING. The only dare I say negative thing about Nick's Auto Repair (which doesn't bother me at all) is that this is a real repair shop- it's small/cramped and greasy, meant for working on cars. There is no air conditioned waiting room, no courtesy shuttle, no visitor parking lot (park on the street). But none of this should matter because all you need is an honest mechanic that you trust, that does excellent repair work and that will go above and beyond what is expected/quoted. Nick is your guy. Me and Nick go way back. About 8 years ago, I met my neighbor Kent. Of course, back then I didn't know he was insane. I've learned that since many in my family are self-absorbed, narcissistic types, I apparently have a super high tolerance for lunatics. Well, one good thing was that Kent introduced us to Nick. His shop is right down the hill from us and from the beginning we got a really good vibe from him. Previous to him, we were clipping coupons and finding the cheapest oil change around. But - we were now growing a business that required a truck daily - it was about time to have a good mechanic on the team. In a word, Nick ROCKS. He is SO thorough! Almost too thorough, as there are definitely times when we felt like we just didn't want to know all the crap that was about to go wrong on our vehicles. He always works extra hard to get our truck back to us, as he knows that's our bread and butta. One time, I took my Ford into the dealership for an oil change and an alignment and some weird noises. They called once to tell us we needed brakes, so we gave the go ahead. Then we didn't hear from them for DAYS! Our truck was gone for a week! Major pisser. Then, when I finally got it back, the noise was still there and the alignment was still screwed. I was so pissed! I'm going to save all this for their own little review... Anyways, back to Nick. One time, going over a bump, something really bad happened with my truck. I got out, and it looked like the wheel had fallen into the wheel well. Even I knew this was bad. So I call Nick, and he actually drove all the way out to where I was (about 1/2 hour away from his shop), and drove it back to his shop! And then there's all the times he'll deliver my car to my house and just put the keys in the mail box. And how he always makes room to service our cars, even when he's slammed The only con is that good service does cost money. We only found this out when he told us we needed two new tire rods, & while getting new tires at Big O, we asked how much it would be. It was very surprising how much the difference in cost was, about $100. It was a learning experience, so now we utilize other places that specialize in certain things. But, when we need good service that we can count on and need it quick, Nick is always our guy. read more

We've used Nick's for years and seldom had any complaints. However, over the last couple of years, the business has deteriorated dramatically. We wanted to support this place, but now WE'RE DONE! It's no coincidence that most of the 5-star reviews were written more than 2 years ago ... They said they'd fix my scooter (it wouldn't start). Even came and picked it up. THEN ... they kept it for over a year (kept telling me it would be ready "next week"), charged me $300, lost 2 of its parts, and DIDN'T FIX IT. It ran when I picked it up, but the next day was totally dead again. I charged the battery - still nothing. The reason I wanted to fix it was so that I can sell it. Now it's another year older, doesn't start, and is missing 2 parts. As for the missing parts ... again, they told me repeatedly that they'd look for them. Then they said they found them. However, when I arrived to pick them up, they admitted that they had not in fact found them, and didn't "even know what they look like". No apology, no attempt to make it right. read more

I was sad to hear of Nick's passing but was more than happy Rafael had assumed ownership of the shop. He even remembered working on my car from a few years ago. l called ahead of time to make sure I could bring in my car to get the air-conditioning looked at along with an oil change and tire rotation. Rafael took care of me right away and even gave me a ride to work saving me a good 15 bucks from using Uber. When my car was ready a few hours later he was happy to come pick me up even though he had to lock up the shop to do so. I appreciate the extra steps he took to provide me with excellent customer service. I'll be back! Check engine light was on, went in for a diagnostic. Codes cleared, light hasn't come back 3 weeks later and was given an explanation of what they thought triggered the light, which didn't need a repair. They checked everything and even topped off all of the fluids. Very honest and good customer service. Absolutely would return for any further issue's. read more

Costumers beware!! Nick is no longer the owner of this shop! I used to get good service from "Nick"! I got my car wheel balanced and wheel aligned for $100(assuming Nick still managed the business). After a week there is a clumping sound under the hood and there is a squeaking sound under the hood when i step on the brakes. I called the shop and was told that they did not touch anything under the hood and they would charge me $45 to get it checked. I was also told that "you need to get it out of your head!" that they did something to my car. That is when i asked if Nick still owns the shop, and the guy said no. I've been here twice- and only rely on them now! Came in on short notice the first time- got greeted with respect and professionalism. Needed some maintenance. Was done quick and for a good price. My car was fine for a long time until recently. I had some major problems with my car because my oil cap fell into the pipes and since I didn't know about it, I drove and caused an oil block and created leaks everywhere in my car. Luckily I didn't destroy my engine! They told me that it would take about a week to wait for parts since I really messed up my car, the but they gave me the price upfront. It's affordable, and honestly a great deal for what needs to be done. I need to stop driving like a bat out of hell... Aha They are definitely a small shop and have a lot to do. But given the price and welcoming environment, this wasn't a big deal for me. There's isn't any seating or a designated place to wait, but I trust them with my car. I mean, anyone who knows anything about cars knows that a place cares when they really take the time to look at what's going on. I also like how they remember me when I call for check ins! At first I was hesitant to find a new mechanic but after a terrible experience with Griffin Auto in Mt View, and after hearing the earlier YELP review about how Nick fixed an electric problem that other mechanics had not been able to fix, I knew I found the right professional. In the past week, not only did Nick fix my electric problem that the other mechanic said was very hard to locate, but I also brought in 2 other cars for him to service. Each time Nick took the time to not only fix the issues that I requested but he also took the time to evaluate the whole car for other safety issues, at no additional fee. He found that the Jiffy Luber's had not tightened down my oil filter, which could have damaged my engine had he not found it in time. Not only does he fix what he says he can fix but he also takes preventive measures to make sure that you are safe on the road. Now that's my kind of mechanic! Nick is an honest, hard working and completely trust worthy guy. I brought my volvo in last minute for a very long list of repairs and explained that I needed it in working order ASAP because my mother was flying in from Boston that evening. Nick had the car ready (and CLEAN!!!) by the end the day. I had been having really strange, intermittent problems starting the car ever since I bought it (a year ago). The car had been to at least 4 other mechanics between here and boston, and nobody successfully identified or solved the issue. Nick listened attentively to my description of the problem, and then provided his hypothesis as to what the problems could be.... a few hours later, he called and said his hypothesis was dead accurate, and he fixed the issue in a matter of hours. After leaving Nick's garage, my car was in better shape than when I bought it. He took time to test drive the car with me, and even gave me a ride home to get ready for my mom, while he went to work. I feel very confident that this guy is a cut above the rest. His prices are completely reasonable, and his attitude and work ethic are inspirational. read more

I thought I'd contribute to this 5-star pile-on with my own review. Unlike the 17 before me, my review won't include Nick's name because Nick wasn't at the shop the day I stopped in. Rapahel was. I am in the process of buying a used car. There are a lot of shiny things on the used car market, so it's obviously really important to have a nice *looking* car checked out by a mechanic. Unlike other mechanics I've been to, Raphael clearly explained everything about the car I was having checked out. He pointed out its virtues and things that I ought to be looking for, but more importantly, he explained his concern for the red-flag problems. The few things that I thought might be big problems turned out to be no big deal. A really nice touch for the pre-purchase inspection was the inclusion of the KBB value of the car on my report. Often times, used car sellers will try to tax the buyer for a bunch of after-market BS they wasted their money on. Having the KBB value in print on an assessment is a great bargaining chit to bring the value of a car down to what's reasonable. I'm going back to Nick's Auto Repair with another car tomorrow. Nick is one of the most honest and thorough mechanics I've ever had! I am thrilled I found him! My 13-year-old car had a broken timing chain and Nick gave me an estimate for the repair; but he mentioned that there were several other things that would need addressing in the not-too-distant future. Since things in the car were starting to sound funny and leak, I knew he wasn't taking me for a ride on this. And he absolutely didn't pressure me to do additional work. I feel like I got a whole new car and am so much safer on the road because of Nick. He really cares about making sure the work is done thoroughly. I had told my partner to bring her car here because of the great reviews. She loved it so much that she recommended it to another couple friend's of ours and they loved it! I finally took my car in after the engine light came on...Nick is staying home these days due to his health (prayers to him & his family) but his team is doing a great job keeping his legend going...They went through my vehicle and it was a simple fix but it was time for a full tuneup with belts. Juan found that the last mechanic used generic parts that don't last as long and also saw that other parts weren't replaced as recommended when doing a tuneup. He gave me a good deal but it still stung a little. But you get what you pay for and it was worth every penny and more! They even showed me all the parts they replaced in my car after... Went in to fix a headlight and Rafael offered to uber me home which is pretty great to start. I picked up my Volvo and a few days later the light went out again. I took a used car in for an inspection and was charged the fee. The owner of the used car told me before the inspection began that he didn't have the time to wait around so I asked Nick's Auto Repair if I could get a refund. They refunded me in full...no questions asked...and they were really nice about it. While that doesn't speak to their mechanic work, it does say these guys aren't out to just make a buck. I called and spoke to Rafael with regards to changing out a fog light on my 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. As we know the dealers charge an arm and a leg for the littlest things.... Rafael took my car in and serviced it right away and at a minimal cost. With the savings left over, I knew I needed a battery so I gave him the business for that as well. Had my 2013 Ford Escape SE, car had engine noise and ticking. i went to some mechanic and they told me that the car need to replace the engine. i thought to get second opinion and went to Nick's auto repair, Meet with Rafael. After checking the car he said we need to change oil and spark plugs, in the beginning i din't believe that only will make the noise go. however i thought this will not heart if i change them and works i will be saving the engine replacement money. next day he called me and said the car is ready to picked up and the issue with fixed.
