This place also holds a special place in my heart because it's where I went on my very first date with my fiancé, which makes coming back even more meaningful. Bob and his team are truly incredible--so talented, welcoming, and genuinely funny. A special shoutout to Madison, who made me feel completely comfortable and confident when I was on stage. That kind of energy makes all the difference. I can't recommend this place enough--funny, memorable, and full of great people. I already want to go back!

While comedy often involves pushing boundaries, the humor felt one-sided and dismissive of a faith that is deeply important to many people. What stood out to us was the apparent double standard. It seemed unlikely that the performers would make similarly critical jokes about certain other groups or belief systems without concern for offending the audience. As a result, the show came across less as lighthearted comedy and more as an effort to promote a particular viewpoint. We understand that not everyone shares the same beliefs, and we respect differing perspectives. However, we would have appreciated a more balanced and inclusive approach that did not single out Christianity for ridicule. Audience members who value their Christian faith may want to be aware of this aspect of the show's content before attending.

I'll try to leave the review of the bar separate from that of the show but it may be hard to do…read moresince the bar is kind of integral to the experience. Got to Hennessy's right around 7:30 which is what the tickets said and were told to wait outside at a different entrance to the bar which was where the show takes place. After 5 minutes of standing in the bone chilling cold wishing I had been invited in for a drink we were ushered upstairs to the show area. Plastic tables and chairs in caberet style seating face the stage with a walk up bar featuring lackluster appetizers and selection are at your disposal during the entire show. After a half hour of chit chat with the people at our table the show began right on time at 8PM. Have to give a HUGE shoutout to the dedication and energy of the performers the 6 of them all did an amazing job making sure the crowd was into it and the people were happy. Drinking games, short sketches depicting typical bar experiences and a little improv comedy mixed with audience participation all made for a fun night. This show is for the 21+ crowd and so is the humor, I found it to be spot on for the most part. Most people at the show were between 25-35 with few exceptions such as the 70 year old couple at our table who i do not think understood even one joke the whole night. So why 3 stars. minus one star for sketchy bar and minus one star for the price tag. 20 bucks a ticket seemed overpriced for the just over one hour the show lasted. Also while the material was funny it seemed to be missing something that i just can't put my finger on. Overall, Great to see once but I do not think I would go again.

I took my girlfriend to the show this past week and overall I was disappointed. I am a fan of…read moretheater and comedy shows however, this struggled in both arenas. The positives were the location and opening stand up comedian. Centered amongst the historic taverns of Bell in Hand and the Union Oyster Bar, we had a great time hanging out before the show. There were several much needed improvements. Outright the show wasn't funny. Much of the acting had a forced feeling and over emphasized how "wild and crazy" drinking at bar can be. It was like high school drama nerd meets MTV reality show. The price of $20/person was fine if the show was good. However for what it was the least they could have done was provide the first drink free or reduced. In all fairness there were people who seemed to find the show amusing but they also seemed like they never got out.

Well, I saw the Blue Man Group in December of 1999 as part of a company holiday celebration in…read moreBoston's Theatre District. Sorry it took me so long to Yelp them! I think they started in Las Vegas and then opened branches/troupes in various cities, Boston being one of them. Performance artists who did some crazy tricks, played unconventional PVC tube type instruments to rhythmic tribal beats, and had the uncanny habit of making audience members be a part of the show and feel nervous. The band was above the stage, oddly, on a platform above where the tricks and performance artists were. The music was OK, but after hearing two or three songs you realize the music all sounds pretty much the same. The band was a music-only/non-vocal four piece band: Chapman Stick, Bass, Keyboards, and Drums. The show was OK. The company bought us the ticket, after we had lunch in Central Square, Cambridge, and we all met up at Park Street Station and walked over to some theater. I never would have gone on my own accord, but it was a company event. If you've seen it once there is no reason to see it twice, good but not that captivating. Thing is, that really struck me as odd and trashy... the tickets were not cheap, in fact back then it was $55.00. But as we all exited, two of the band members were at the exit doors with these big buckets looking for donations/tips. I've never seen that before.

Blue Man Group has been performing at the Charles Playhouse since 1995!…read more This is the second time I've had the pleasure of seeing Blue Man Group. The first time was over 20 years ago. They still had a lot of the same acts that still stand and bring lots of laughs as well as new and hilarious ones. This time I was sitting in the fourth row, pancho section which was perfectly close enough to the stage, but not too close where I was cranking my neck. I don't wanna spoil any thing from the show, but here are some helpful tips: - if you can, get middle section poncho seats - if you're in the poncho section, dress light! it gets hot under there - the music is amazing and loud! (They provide ear protection by request). - they also provide masks - boosters available for the littles - have a special occasion? You can contact them 48 hours before the show to have a special LED message displayed. - post show meet & greet for additional $$ - bathrooms are super clean as well as the waiting area - merch available - Bar with small snacks and lots of seating in the waiting area Bring the whole family it's very kid friendly and they will have an awesome time ! Street Parking not that great and be careful of parking on Tremont as there is tour bus parking after 6 PM and they will tow! Lots of lots available, where you can also pre-pay

I was able to see Shear Madness with Yelp and wow what a treat!…read more The show is a murder mystery, and just absolutely phenomenal. The second half involves audience participation, but it's not mandatory if you're more on the shy side. The actors were incredible and very funny. They brought some modern twists and definitely some Boston jokes which I enjoyed. You will laugh a lot and have a great time trying to figure everything out. Shear Madness was frankly one of the shows that really surprised me in terms of quality and fun…read morethat the crew was able to bring out from their audiences. With around 80-100 seats, the show was pretty intimate and fun. I love how their performers were able to adjust to and roll with each audience's feedback...and many times, returned with even funnier responses. It does take a talented crew to be able to work together and do a bit of improv to keep the audiences highly engaged and I definitely thought the team of performers I saw did such a fantastic job that night. I honestly went in without much expectations but definitely came out really happy that I got to see thus show. Many audiences felt the same as well. P.S. restrooms are underground and behind the stage...so you may not be able to get in there until they start letting the audiences in. Also, they have a bar downstairs so you can enjoy your show with your fav drinks, too.
