Good spot, consistent food, attentive service in a nice location. We sat outside on a Sunday and able to get easy 1:30 reservations. We shared fries and asparagus fries with several dipping sauces. I ordered a fish sandwich with their squash vegetable side. Paired it with a glass of white wine that the server recommended and gave me a small tasting before pouring the entire glass. Came here one day because my friend was visiting from Michigan and we love going to Nick's on State with my husband and they didn't have any dinner reservations open so we thought let's give their other location a try I will say service was amazing on par or even better than Carlsbad we had a great time with all of the wait staff. You were all very attentive. We gave him a run for the money with the things that we asked for extra sauce and little things like that they were Phenomenal and I do love this plaza for a few reasons. Parking is easy. There's other shops here that I like overall a great experience. One thing I would say that's missing here that they do have at the Carlsbad location is the Carlsbad location just feels more luxurious inside. I love the dark interior design there I feel like that's kind of lacking at this one. The inside here is very small very crisp white walls. Don't get me wrong. It looks beautiful. It's just it doesn't look as romantic or date night like as the Carlsbad location and since my husband and I were hosting a friend. It didn't have to be romantic. It's just if you have a preference you might want to go to the Carlsbad one but honestly, we'll keep frequenting whichever one is more convenient that day. Rihanna, usual favorite dishes, including the spinach, artichoke dip, the deviled eggs, their fried chicken with mashed potatoes and their prime rib dip sandwich those are our heavy hitters like when we come here those are our favorite things to order. I've walked by this restaurant for years and always wondered why it's so packed. I finally went last week for a birthday lunch and the food was fantastic for lunch time. We were seated with a table for six at lunchtime outside. Server was wonderful. The starters were great. The asparagus fries were original and delicious. The tuna tartare was the highlight and loved the wontons that came with it. The spinach and artichoke dip was also good. I got the bistro plate which comes with the petite filet mignon (it's truly tiny) which was a good mix of salad and soup and meat on bread. The cioppino was fantastic. Pork ribs were okay. read more

First thing you need to know is do not mistakenly walk into South of Nick's when you are trying to get to Nick's. Same restaurant family, and easy to confuse the two if you are coming from the parking lot or garage. South of Nick's is the Mexican kitchen and bar. Nick's Del Mar is all about classic American comfort. In terms of ambiance, the restaurant features a beautifully designed space with a glass-enclosed dining room. There is a sizable indoor-outdoor island bar and a heated patio. Overall, the atmosphere is welcoming and polished. But, goodness me, this place gets very busy and a bit loud. Overall, I find the team there to be quite attentive and offering mostly friendly service. The menu offers a mix of comfort-driven dishes and fresh, high-quality ingredients. The deviled eggs were an absolute disappointment, however. The bacon was a miss, and did not taste right given the delicate flavors of the egg. But other signature items on the menu include the asparagus fries, pan-seared salmon, baby back ribs and Chilean sea bass. Hands down, my absolute favorite item on the menu is the Original Ribeye Melt. The sandwich is bold in flavor and indulgent in every single bite. The sliced ribeye is both tender and stacked -- it's a hefty sandwich. The melted Swiss cheese and sweet-savory red wine onions, all drizzled with a tangy mustard bacon sauce, perfectly rounds out the flavor. All that, and Nick's opted to add crispy Parmesan sourdough. Nick's has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. The food is always delicious, the drinks on point and the service is (almost) always excellent. We've gone there for celebrations as well as "just because." We like sitting on the covered patio the best, and do wish there was more seating available out there. Reservations are the way to go; they take walk-ins if you don't mind waiting. We've really enjoyed almost everything we eaten there, but my favorite menu item is the chicken piccata. SO GOOD. This dish (and the awesome fried chicken) comes with two boneless chicken breasts, plenty to share or take half home. If you share, be sure to order an additional side of mashed potatoes! We discovered (quite by accident) years ago that the butter cake is a must for dessert. However, we just recently shared a banana cream pie, which was delicious! read more

Picked two good seats at the bar for my friend and I. Very interesting and good cocktails. Small wine list with a decent number of wines by the glass. A number if beers on tap though I didn't try any. Food was very good. Tuna tartare and Spicy Thai salad, Both were excellent. My friend was very happy with his steak and baked potato. I don't know what kind of sorcery they put in the burger but my kids sat still for a full five minutes -- so I'll be back weekly. The cake? Oh, the cake. It was a trifecta experience as this was the last of the 3 restaurants that I went to while in town for work of which the day before I ate at the sister restaurant South of Nick's.. Arriving around 4:30 pm , I snagged a seat at the bar and initially wanted the meatloaf entree but asked if they could sub the carrots and asparagus with another vegetable or just have all carrots. I was told no substitutions which I thought that was quite strange for a simple request that I'm certain other patrons have asked many a time. I ended up ordering the Chilean sea bass as the veggies were sautéed garlic spinach with slivered almonds. Fish was prepared perfectly moist and along with the veggies and mashed potato. Any time I need a good meal, I head over to Nick's Del Mar. Now I will tell you that I've been to many different Nick's. There's one in Pasadena for example that is absolutely amazing. This Nick's in One Paseo is better than the one in Carlsbad for more upscale dining. They both have meatloaf. But it's just different. At this location they even polish their glasses. Very cool. So Chef Patsy and I thought we would take a little trip over for an early dinner. She order's the Bistro Plate. This is a petit filet mignon, topped with steak butter. She orders it medium rare and it comes out, just as she likes it. Garlic toast and a petit bistro salad. It also comes with soup, but she says: "Just give me more salad instead." And they do just that. She's a happy eater. I get the hamburger. I rarely eat a hamburger, but this is my 'cheat' day so I'm going for the gold .... with fries. So good. Patsy says: "I love their warm butter cake." She gets that and I go for the hot fudge sundae. You can't beat the food here, especially on an over indulgent eating day! So glad this is in the neighborhood. And during the week, you can always go first to South of Nick's next door for their happy hour that starts at 3pm. Finally got to try Nick's Del Mar. My friend had just retired as chief marketing officer of a very large restaurant chain. So I wanted to take her somewhere fun with good service and good food. This checked all the blocks and we were blown away with the amazing service. I absolutely loved the bistro salad and the fact that they accommodated a request to double up the salad and skip the soup on their bistro special. Everybody enjoyed their meals, and they even provided a complementary dessert for my friend's retirement. Love the overhead heat lamps and also wine is reasonably priced. I can see why it's crowded even on weeknights for a 5 PM dining reservation. If I lived in the neighborhood, this would be my regular place to go. read more

I'd been suspicious of this place (very pricey, loud One Paseo) and liked it more than I expected to. The portions are huge, the food is tasty. With $42-ish entrees, though, it's not really fine dining - it's like a very noisy bistro. I decided the right way to describe it is: upscale LA/Orange County chain restaurant with steak, seafood and cocktails. It's people-pleasing in an upscale comfort food way but still very tasty. And it's noisier and with a more casual vibe than Seasons 52 though it's pricier. PATIO: This was not my favorite patio. It's not a true patio; part of one wall is open to the walkway in One Paseo, but the other parts are covered with plastic window treatments. So if you're trying to be COVID-safe this is more like indoor dining with some air. It's also super noisy, but we still had a nice time. SERVICE: Extremely nice and professional, from the hostesses to the bussers. Natalya took our water orders and was really nice. Our server seemed sweet but had the quietest voice - which was hard on this very noisy patio. If I had heard her name, I could encourage the manager to tell her to not whisper! COCKTAIL: Got the BLACK AND BLUE MOJITO. Tasty drink, fruit muddled well, super weak, I think. (I enjoyed it very much but felt no buzz!). They topped me off with some complimentary club soda since I had lots of the muddled fruit left once the lime juice/"rum" in the drink was gone. APPETIZERS: We were both very happy with our apps. SO got the soup of the day, which was a puréed French onion soup (so a different texture, with no onion pieces, but apparently very delicious. He was very happy. I got the PETITE BISTRO SALAD, with champagne vinaigrette (usually it comes with a mustard bacon dressing). HUGE and delicious. Since I'd been wary of this place, that told me why people like it here. Only $9 too. You could meet a friend here for lunch with that & maybe add on some fish or chicken and be very happy. ENTREES: SO got chicken piccata ($27). I got the sea bass ($42). (SO had been given a gift card - why not use it up?). Both portions were *huge* and came with mashed potatoes. I really liked the sauteed spinach and the seabass itself (which had a nice carmelized crust). And they were both *hot* which I appreciate (lukewarm food is annoying). The mashed potatoes, though, were hella salty. #StillIAteThem, but now I feel bloated. My SO said "those mashed potatoes were so salty" was one of my most repeated sentences after the meal LOL. SO loved his chicken piccata. DESSERT: I was already full (did I mention there were a lot of mashed potatoes and they were salty?). But SO decided to get the famous butter cake. The butter cake is HUGE and warm - but also SO sweet. Way too sweet even for my SO who likes less-subtle desserts than I do... #StillIAteTooMuchOfIt (are you noticing a theme?). Like the mashed potatoes, it was nice warm comfort food and with a good texture, even if we both kept saying "this is way too sweet." I noticed that other people got sourdough bread, which looked very beautiful. It wasn't listed on the menu to order & no one brought us any. It's just as well (did I mention the mashed potatoes were SALTY & I'm bloated). But just a note that maybe someone forgot ours. Overall, my SO was crazier about this place than I was. Not a big fan of the patio, and the giant portions made it too easy to eat past being full. But I liked my cocktail; loved my salad; and the seabass itself was excellent. Staff is nice too. I wish the patio was more open-air! Had an amazing dinner at Nicks Del Mar. Started off with a Jalapeño watermelon margarita that was super fresh and tasty. Had the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer. I've never had it sever before with sour cream and salsa- but mixed the three and it was pretty tasty! We happened to sit near the kitchen and had the opportunity of checking out what many of the dishes looked like before we ordered. Right off the bat I saw the chicken piccata and was sold! I contemplated the fried chicken and the bistro plate but decided to stick with my initial thought and order the chicken piccata. I'm glad I did. Not only was the dish flavorful and delicious it was a lot of food! The chicken was super tender and the mashed potatoes perfectly whipped! My husband got the seafood cioppino and we shared! Oh my goodness! That was an awesome bowl of seafood. It had quite a few mussels, a couple clams, white fish, shrimp, and salmon. The sauce was really good! Came here to celebrate a family member's birthday. I had the mahi mahi sandwich and was blown away by the portion size! It tasted fresh and flavorful. Th fish was cooked perfectly. We had the asparagus fries which were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. For dessert we tried the butter cake, it was decadent, but not overpowering because the ice cream balanced it out. Cozy ambiance with a modern vibe. Dined here for a work dinner and ordered a Nick's Mai Tai which was topped with a lilikoi (passionfruit) foam. I visited Hawaii earlier this year and stopped at Monkeypod which is famous for inventing the lilikoi foam and this was my first time seeing in the mainland since visiting Hawaii. Nick's mai tai was tasty and the foam was pretty good too. I kept it on theme and ordered a macadamia nut crusted halibut which was pretty good as well. The macadamia nuts were super finely crushed so I didn't get any large crunchy nut pieces as I usually have with others. It was very cold outside but they enclose their patio and have the heaters on so outside seating was comfortable. read more

Beautiful pop of color. It was very berry good and easy to drink. I didn't get any sense of rum and the fruits were nicely and heavily muddled in, I guess it helped requesting "extra berry flavor". HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE PRIME RIB DIP ($24) - "until we're out" seasoned and slow roasted daily, thinly sliced, mayonnaise, red wine au jus, served on a brioche bun. Choice of French fries, market vegetables, petite bistro salad, or warm potato salad - I went for the French fries. Portion was generous and I could only eat half the sandwich. The sandwich is good but not amazing. The brioche bun is a little dry and very crumbly and when dunked into the au jus it easily falls apart and pieces of the bun start swimming in the au jus. The prime rib were nicely sliced thin, perfect for that kind of dunk-and-eat sandwich but felt the flavor was bland as if there was something missing. But the overall bite of bun, prime rib, and au jus was enjoyable and I felt satisfied. The fries were nice and crispy and I loved the white sauce it came with. We have been to Nicks dozens of times and we order the Prime Rib Dip 50+% of the time which comes Med rare on a brioche bun. yesterday that is what I ordered. They used left over shaved prime rib that was well done, rather than a nice piece of center cut beef, along with a half filled order of fries, Didn't know Nicks was cutting back on their food prep? They were also out of a red wine i usually order , waiter suggested a chianti and came back that they were out of that also. Service was good , but food less than average. read more
