Hard to believe...First time this homeowner ever needed an electrician. I was Ahh-scared!! Heard lots of horror stories from others who went through this expensive ordeal. The lights & power seemed to be flickering and fluctuating in only one part of the house. I began envisioning them racking up hours of hunting down the wires from the fuse box up through the attic and to each and every plug & switch. Moving everything, chasing & capturing unseen dust bunnies and filling out loan papers. This is my idea of scary. Checked the fuse box and all seemed to be ok. No flames. Because it was in only one section of the house, knew it was more than replacing a doodah. Googled what it might mean and when it said "serious" for me it meant more than a handyman! Electricians are licensed for a good reason. Electrical problems cause a lot of house fires! Since this is an older house ('78) and I don't take chances with bad electricity, to me it meant I couldn't procrastinate. Did reviews on many of the other sites (Thumbtack, Angie's, Craigslist, Yellow pages, friends and of course Yelp with what seemed logical and affordable in finding an electrician. One suggested I make an appointment (Construction Co), one said it would be rough to quote & to schedule an appointment. Called Nick and left message. Got a call right back and said I'd get a call the next day an hour before they would arrive. When they arrived, I showed them the areas and the fuse box. After reviewing the situation, they explained in detail what what going on with one of my circuits and how they would check out the outlets etc, etc.. They gave me a price and said they could do the job, it was up to me. I know how expensive it is to have anyone show up at your door, but to do a licensed troubleshooting & repair w/parts for what they quoted seemed reasonable. After all, professional people aren't working for the fun of it either. I went with it. They knew exactly what to do. They showed me outlets that were old and needed to be replaced. They showed me a sub box that had hot wires exposed. They advised this was important maintenance and one outlet was overloaded. I thought it was just old as the plugs never stayed in. They worked very thoroughly and gave suggestions for what to consider in the future (have all the other outlets & switches looked at) and upgrade the older circuits in the "old" fuse box. I've been here for 20 years and believe many things in a home need upgrading from time to time. I will call them again! read more

90% of my house did not have power. I tried to troubleshoot everything on my own by going online, researching, youtube, etc. I was not successful on restoring my power on my own. Today is Saturday, and Nick personally came to my house within 30 minutes of my first call, and fixed my problem in less than an hour. I'm still shocked by my awesome experience (no pun intended). I had a pretty good idea of how expensive this could've been, but I put my trust and confidence in Nick and boy did he deliver. He was very professional in his appearance, and was very friendly. He had a professional truck with all the tools and instruments to perform diagnostic tests. Ultimately, he gave a very fair price for a lot of work and he even included a warranty. When he was done, my power was back on, my breaker box was cleaned, and he even installed new wall plates, outlet covers, and new light switches which weren't even part of the estimate. Nick and David came out to install a new electrical plug and wiring for a new washer/dryer unit. We converted a closet to a laundry unit so there was no existing electrical and it needed a 240v for the dryer. They came out in only 1 day notice and made it happen in less than 2 hours. They were right on time, they were so nice, helpful in explaining the job, and very efficient. They knew exactly what they were doing. They cleaned up after themselves and even patched the drywall at no charge. Nick even patched a spot on the wall where my dog had chewed for no extra cost!! We called Nick because we were in need of additional outlets in our upstairs bedroom. Nick came the very next morning and assessed what we needed and gave us an outstanding quote. We accepted and he immediately went to work crawling through out hot and tiny attic. He installed our additional outlets as though the house already had them. When he left he patched all holes and vacuumed and it looked like he had never been there. We are extremely happy with his work and if ever we need any additional electrical needs he will be our man. I made a big mistake and found another service company to take a look and they turned out to be total scammers. As many others, I found Nick on Yelp. A fuse blew in my house, and after trying to re-set the breaker nothing happened. I called Nick and he returned my call the same day. I told him I commute to LA and he said rather than take a day off work, he would stop by my home and see if he could repair from the outside. After looking at the fuse panel, he said he was going to have to get inside to check the wiring. I have a lock box on my house and Nick said he could do the repairs without me being there. I must admit I was a little apprehensive about letting a total stranger in my house when I wasn't there, but something about Nick made me trust him. I called Nick's Electric on Black Friday with the need to get two sockets moved before Monday when my new cabinets were being installed in the kitchen. Christopher, one of their technicians, was out the next day and was wonderful. He called to coordinate his arrival and showed up on time. When we explained our needs, he asked good questions and helped us realize we didn't just need the sockets moved over, we needed to switch from our old 220 socket to a 120 (which is what the new stove needs and we hadn't even thought about). He was able to move the sockets, change then voltage of the one socket, install a new breaker to help adjust for the movement of some of our appliances which was going to overload the one breaker, he completed the assessment, work, clean-up, and explained his work more quickly than we had anticipated and within the price range we had mentally set. We also discussed an additional project and he arranged to come back on Monday to complete that project - way above the call of duty but much appreciated. We needed to add two power outlets and install 5 new recessed lights in our kitchen as well as change out flush mount lights to recessed in the hallways. We obtained bids from two electricians that had great reviews on yelp. The bids came in about the same price, but Nick's confidence in not needing to "hack" away at our walls or ceiling gave us the push to go with him. Even more he was able to do the patch work himself. He was right! Nick did a beautiful job installing new recessed lights in our kitchen without making a mess of the ceiling! He worked diligently all day to complete the project. Since I moved into this home, the accent lighting was never operational. I asked Nick to come and take a look and see if it could be repaired. Within minutes and some testing, he advised against the repair, that the installed lights were too old and it would be more cost efficient to replace them. We called Nicks cause we had 4 lights in our home flickering. My husband found Nicks here on yelp and decided to call since he had good reviews. 2 workers showed up same day, which i thought was awesome for same day service. When they arrive he said there is a $45.00 charge as the rep that scheduled the appt said there is no fee. Someone needs to get thier communication straight. The tech said he will call and confirm. As he proceeded with the inspection he said could fix the problem for $675.00 warranty and all. Since I didnt want to jump for the first qoute he seem to get in defense mode. He said my house is a fire hazard and he wouldnt even sleep in this house. We then told he will get back to him. He wasnt too happy about not getting business. I did my research and found $75.00 cheaper with little more work to it. If I were you, do your research and dont jump on the first person that comes to your door. I'm sure he does good work but the fact he seem he just wanted to make a quick buck is the reason we didnt proceed business with him. read more

Called an specifically asked for a quote. Nick said he could come out and take a look. After taking apart several outlets, he said they could not find the problem and wanted $625. When I told him I was not going to pay that, he told me that it was $125 for him to come out. I told him I only wanted an estimate and he never told me it was going to cost anything. After that, miraculously, he said, "Let me try this switch here." The switch he tried was already working and had nothing to do with anything else. He claimed the wires were loose causing the outlets in the other room not to work. He has an arrogant and cocky attitude. After he "tried" the switch, everything worked and he charged me $245. I believe it was a simple fix in the first place from the source, but he had to make it look good. I'm going to have a reliable electrician come out and check his work. After that, I will decide whether I will be taking him to court or not for a refund of my money. My advice, don't use him. I even heard him opening my restroom drawers. Nick's Electric answered my message within 15 minutes and came to the apartment within an hour. After calling numerous businesses who were a pain to deal with or were simply not answering or available on the same day, Nick was on the job within a very short period of time. Three contact calls were received confirming that he was on the way. When Nick arrived he got to work right away. A power surge had shut down power in three rooms and started a fire in a kitchen vent hood. He worked for hours, swapped out the damaged vent hood with a new one (I had bought a new one the night before), he checked all circuits, replaced ones that had gone bad (circuit board is 60 years old), and replaced light switches that had gone bad. He also fixed a number of areas that were not up to code by previous electricians taking short cuts. We were very lucky that the power surge did not do more widespread damage, and clearly much safer now that Nick came by and did the exacting and thorough safeguard investigation. He set a reasonable price before engaging the work and stayed much longer than he needed to making sure he did not miss any circuit. He was precise, honest, thoughtful, and extremely kind towards my elderly father. He also cleaned up afterwards. All in all, Nick's Electric is professional, expert, and attentive towards safety. Nick is a genuinely nice person to interact with in an emergency. I will definitely use him again! My one bit of advice: Nick get some refrigerator magnets made up, so I will always have your number handy! read more

Yelp is such a great resource for finding reliable contractors.....Today we hired Nick to install plugs for our outdoor string lights in several areas around our house. It looks so neat and professional now. Before, we had wires hanging down, etc., and the entire thing just looked messy.....I finally told hubby, "that's not how we roll" .....we are going to have these lights hung professionally! In addition, we had a beautiful handmade brass lighting fixture installed in the entryway (see photos) which brought the entry/living room up several notches! It's my favorite part of this project. Nick called us Monday of this week to say he would try to come by one day after work to see what the project would entail....we were able to meet this afternoon, and after discussing what we wanted, he said he was available to do the job "now".....of course, we said "yes!". The job went smoothly, all areas were done to our spec's, and the interior light fixture was the icing on the cake. We now have an electrician we will call whenever we have electrical issues, and will absolutely recommend Nick to our friends and neighbors.
