The bread was so dry - it was definitely not a very good brioche bun because those are normally very tasty. So I took my bun off and ate the inside and the chicken breading that's supposedly was supposed to be fried was not attached to the chicken it was falling off..... Plus it was minimal size sandwich and the tomatoes were like not even ripe at all they tasted like nothing. Bla. For $22 bucks it should have been a big sandwich!! I don't recommend this location at all - Plus the environment seems very swanky and the crew are stuffy - not our waitress though - She was very nice. Beware!!! read more

Nick's is always a solid option. I'm happy Carlsbad Village has one! Missing the one in Long Beach, coming here was great :). I came here about a month ago when my friend was in town and got the fish burger which is always a delish option and a reasonable price. Worst customer service, I've been there on other occasions when it's raining. They have a problem with their patio on those times. But the real problem is they won't fix it. The reason for the bad review is, we walk into the restaurant at around 1700 hr and the bar is wide open, but they change the rules and make reservations only. So when people show up and the bars is mostly empty you can't have a seat. So first come first serve is a thing of the past, as of me going back and passing that on to anyone else that helps boycott this establishment, for inconsistent practices. read more

We love Nick's in many locations. The 4 stars ate due to the bartenders lack of acknowledgement that we were even sitting there. It took 8 minutes (I times it as I was in the business) and that is rude. They could've said hi we'll be with you asap but no one did. Unacceptable! Once they did acknowledge us service was ok. Food was fantastic so that's what the 4 stars are for. Other friend said the place is hot or miss. This was our first time visiting this Nick's. FYI we will return as we like the atmosphere and we really do like the food and all the Nick's have been wonderful. read more

What a great evening at Nick's on State in Carlsbad, CA! My friend and I got there with no reservation about 4:30 on a Saturday and were able to get a seat at the bar in a few short minutes! The interior of the building was beautiful with a gorgeous curved vaulted ceiling and the ambience was perfect in every way! We started the evening with a black and blue mojito and a watermelon jalapeño margarita! Both were good but I would highly recommend the mojito. For an appetizer we had the asparagus fries with a dipping sauce. Definitely a good way to start our food journey for the evening. We both enjoyed our dinners of the Crispy Chicken Sandwich and fries along with the California Salad. They were the perfect end to a wonderful progression of tastiness! We were incredibly impressed by our whole experience tonight. We were those horrible people that walk in that "just want a drink now" and they not only accommodated us for drinks but were also able to get us a table for dinner. I'm sad I didn't get the name of the 2 hosts that were so outstanding. Once at the table, Owen our server, was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, understanding, and just over all go with the flow in a very high end way. The food!!!!! Best overall food experience I've had in a very long time. The dining area was great with a large bar taking center stage, there's a good size outdoor dining area as well. It was our first time at Nick's and none of us knew what to expect from the menu. My first experience with Nick's was at the Pasadena location. I was very pleased with my visit, and I've been back several times. My visit to Nick's on State was just as good. This is an amazing addition to state Street. In the past, I've had the Bacon Deviled Eggs, Pan Seared Scottish Salmon and the Prime Rib Dip. All of it, excellent. This time we tried something different. -Corn Chowder w/Potato and Bacon - hearty comfort soup - delicious -Tuna Tartar - perfectly seasoned, with a healthy serving of chips and avocado -4 oz. Petit Fillet with soup and salad - Perhaps the best deal on the menu. -Savory Short Ribs - the meat falls off the bone, I used a fork & knife and didn't get my hands messy - the best ribs I've had. In addition to Carlsbad, Nick's apparently has locations in Belmont Shore, Manhattan Beach, Pasadena, Laguna Beach, San Clemente, and Del Mar. Before my recent brunch here, I was completely unaware. To eat, I ordered the Prime Rib Dip, priced around $24. To drink, a Harland Hazy IPA. Service was both quick and efficient. I loved the ambience and decor. The food itself was delicious and satisfying. The Hazy IPA was a perfect match. If you find yourself in Carlsbad, this figures to be one of the best brunch spots around. I am a salad eater but this fish sandwich kicks any salad, no matter how good right out the door. Speaking of salad, the bistro salad is also fantastic, perfectly crunchy.
